Several weeks ago, my wife called Brown's to see what prices were. She was politely asking the price of several different kind of metals and the woman on the phone got mad and told her to hold on, proceeded to give the phone to a man/owner i believe, and he was very rude saying, "it doesn't matter what our prices are, just bring in your metal and you'll get what you get." We proceeded to at lease give them a try because some prices are a bit better there, but our experience with them has been a negative one. Then, last time we took in metal, a man there was argumentative with me because I refused to let my compressors go for scrap metal price. I told him that I would keep them and strip them before bringing them in. I feel like he was trying to pressure me into releasing my compressors to him. I asked about an aluminum coil I had, just to see if it was classified as something else, and it was classified with sheet aluminum. That was fine. I said that I would hold on to it because I had more coils at the house, and more aluminum, (since it was sheet aluminum), and then he thought he had the right/power/privilege to tell me what I cannot do, that I could not take MY coils apart. That I not only had to get an HVAC license, but needed something else to get rid of MY copper and MY aluminum, that coils HAD to be turned in as a whole. I was told that they cannot take copper (and paid days later, understandable) and aluminum that comes off coils separated. Today was our last time there. We went, expecting that a freezer with a little bit of food, and a horrible smell would still be accepted, since all appliances come with garbage, (look at the amount of plastic on appliances...). but we were told that every appliance brought needed to be cleaned out, the smell was okay but anything other, even a little food garbage, was not acceptable... then proceeded to argue with me about taking them home, to clean out and bring back.... Are they stupid?! This IS NOT the way to run a business. They have lost our business for good, and every time someone asks us about Browns, we will tell them not to waste their time... the problems and fussy workers are not worth the prices!
