If there was one word I could used to describe the people at Hawkins Point... Well its a lot harder then you would think it should be.. Especially when you are trying to refrain from using provocative language. Slimey, crooks, thieves, dishonest, false advertising, penny pinching, these are just a few words that are appropriate for all readers to describes Hawkins Point. I have a real issue when people false advertise things. I looked on LKQ for Hawkins point prices for a diesel engine with all the accessories that bolt to the engine(starter, turbo since its a turbo diesel, alternator, a.c. condensor, power steering pump etc). On the LKQ website for Hawkins Point stated for a "ENGINE PACKAGE" for the diesel cost $360 +$50 core. After I spent two hours to pull the motor and drag up to the front gate, they tryed to charge me just about $700 for the engine with the accessories still bolted to the engine (because we didnt have to pull them off to get the engine out of the truck and we wanted all of them). After I was told the price I decided to try to reason with the person at the front desk but they couldnt do anything and honestly were less then helpful. So I decided to give LKQ a call and they were also less then helpful. All said and done, they are false advertising their items in hope after you spent all that time to pull that part that you dont care and just pay up. I am incredibly upset and disappointed in this company. I will not be returning to these thieves!

Prices on parts here seems fair, especially when compared to buying parts new. It is a bit annoying that you have to pay to get into the yard but I guess they have to make money somehow. The only other downside is that their inventory of vehicles is a bit light when compared to a lot of other places and they definitely dont have a lot of newer vehicles. Inventory is also a bit disorganized, so finding what you need cam be a challenge at times.

Crazy Ray's is truly a treasure of the Baltimore Metro area. I have been to the Mount Airy, Hawkins Point and Jessup Locations quite a few times over the years. I have not experienced any of the rudeness other reviewers described. The help may be a little curt at times but they always answer my questions. I don't go there for group therapy (I am a therapist!). I go for the FANTASTIC deals on used auto parts. There are so many examples. My daughter needed a headlight assembly for a Diamante a few years back. The dealer wanted $350. I don't recall the exact price we paid, but it was under $25. I have gotten power window switches and other electrical parts for pocket change. The dealer wanted a fortune. I have sold three vehicles to Crazy Ray's. When your clunker is even past the point of being raised from the dead, via cheap parts, you can still get a financial leg-up on purchasing your next vehicle by selling to CR. The tow truck drivers have always been VERY courteous and professional. Their job is like a funeral directors' as they help you to put your old companion and friend in the auto graveyard. Unlike a funeral director, these drivers pay you in cash, on the spot. There is also peace in knowing that your old car will likely live on, at least in PART, in another car of the same model. During the eighties and nineties, when I could afford to drive used diesel Mercedes Benz's, (One of them lived to see 408,000 miles!) I got parts at Potomac German Auto Parts, a very classy junkyard in Frederick. Rumor has it that they bought Crazy Rays. That may explain why some of the reviewers noted improvements. If you want to be pampered, go to the dealership and pay through the nose. If you can afford it, God bless you and the country that allowed you to acquire your wealth. Otherwise, have some fun, develop some healthy humility, and make your visit to Crazy Ray's an outing. If you smile at the help, say "please" and "thank you", they just might be nicer......maybe not, but that's still no reason you can't have fun pulling parts while saving a bundle. Bring a friend who knows one end of a wrench from another and has a sense of humor. Enjoy!

The customer service sucks they are really rude when you call for a quote to sell them a car, make you wait too long on the phone and they don't keep an inventory of their cars how can they run business like that. Worst hospitality ever seeing out all the juk yard in MARYLAND

I’ve been going to Crazy Ray’s for years and have been to all 5 locations many times. Over the years they’ve all have had the same atmosphere, rude impolite employees and the yard was a total mess. Slowly I saw improvements about 4 years ago and now Hawkins Point is at the top, at least with the condition of the yard. All cars and trucks are supported on stands and the yard is cleaner than I’ve ever seen, much safer to work in. Still have the rude impolite employees. I just can’t get over the so called security guard, he makes you wait for bag inspection so he can sell his jerked chicken box’s too exiting Crazy Ray customers. I can’t believe Crazy Ray management allows this. In my view he’s the one stealing, stealing time from Crazy Ray’s by selling food on their dime. Other then that great place, nothings perfect.

Terrible service. Had an appointment when I called I gave them my number as primary and my boyfriends as secondary. The tow truck driver called my boyfriend once and didn't call my cell until 1 hr later when he was 10 minutes away from where the car was. This caused my appointment to get cancelled since I was not notified 1 hr in advanced as promised. I called and apparently they don't give a direct number to call all calls are forwarded to a call center in Florida so there is no accountability. The drive called me back the same day day and said I will be the first pic up at 7 am. So I'm at the pick up location at 6:55 am and this dud doesn't show.. .. He ended up calling me at almost 9am saying he was on his way. Thats so unprofessional and rude I couldn't believe it. The only reason I finished business with that company is because I needed the car gone. I'll never use them again, I'll tell people not to use them. Terrible just terrible

I would not recommend this place whatsoever, unless you are broke and feel like being patted down and searched like a criminal. I have never stolen anything in my life and have plenty of money but was patted down and humiliated as the so called security gaurd ripped my tool box to peices and took out every single tool along with patting me down finding absolutely nothing. I'm then told my price is higher than what is listed on their website. If you can find another Junkyard in the area I would suggest going there instead.

Messy & sloppy, pretty small for the area and lots of older (80's +90's) trucks in there that are VERY picked over . GOOD prices that are displayed and stuck too,. These people will take advantage of you whenever possible. One hundred dollars for a duplicate receipt. Awesome junkyard - most I go to are "needle in a haystack", you have to eyeball every junker in the lot and hope you find what you're hoping for - the Mt. Airy yard not only has online lookup of the vehicles, on arrival they asked me what I was looking for, and gave me a location that actually correlated to their map - every vehicle has an code on the windshield, found both vehicles I was eyeballing. And even though the driver side rear view mirror I was hunting was damaged on both I was able to determine this in 10 minutes, no aimless hunting! Amazing! Serious bow to the management - this is a wonderfully managed facility.

Crazy Ray's = Crazy people + crazy rules. For someone who hasn't been to a junkyard in a while I found the staff to be very unhelpful and rude. I went to this location to find a spare tire for my car. I found one fairly quick but still attached. All the cars are raised on makeshift stand made out of rims welded together. I told the staff I found what I wanted all I needed was to get a jack to put the car down so I could take the tire down. Little did I know there are a lot insane of rules to navigate at this place. Like "No jacks" WHAT? I can't bring a jack into the junkyard? "Well can you put the car down for me?" No. I was told "you have to go find a scissor jack in one of the cars" Being the stubborn guy I am I said to myself "challenge accepted" Found a tiny jack and worked in the baking sun to lower the car down in increments by finding props to set the jack on. After 2 hours in the heat and with the heart wrenching fear I would be crushed by a car, success! While in line waiting to pay the lady from the front desk came out yelling angrily at some workers "You guys need to move these engines and transmission now! She was then called a "punta" This made me laugh at first but then I cringed at what kind of place I was dealing with here. The only guy that seemed to care about anything was the guys who ended up taking ringing me up. Some of the other customers had special needs and he listened and respectfully assited them as needed. I can't say I expected to be among the most classy people at a junk yard but the people here didn’t care at all and treated everyone, customers and employee's like a burden to be shooed away. The only good thing I can say about this place is I got a good deal on my spare tire. Leaving me to wonder if the drama was worth the savings. I don’t think I will return here unless I am absolutely desperate.

George Spry

Call up for tires tell me you're making model of car for tires and rims a tell M their lumen I'm rams they tell you one price on the phone then they charge you $20 more when you get there I think that should be made against the law I'll never ever go shopping there again and I think everybody should stop don't going there because you're ripping people off doing that ship if you tell somebody $50 you should make a pay $50 not charge and another $40 could you feel like it

Daniel Parker

Found what I was lookin for

Bill. Lauer

Called to get a quote. found them to be quite rude. ended up giving the car away. just so they would not get it. would not recommend them for any purpose.

Gr8Ghost

Experienced was horrible. The witch answering the phone to schedule pickups isn't qualified to answer the phone to talk to customers let alone to work with animals. I stated several times that the car was on Pulaski Highway near the Edgewood location where she was located and this failure at life insisted i was not in her area and that I would have to call the Curtis bay location to have them pick up the vehicle. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out North vs South, but clearly the idiot answering the phones failed kindergarten and has no sense of direction at all. After explaining her location in proximity with the address of the car car she was picking up she realized oHHHHHH your up the street(now here comes the hard part). So after realizing near here location from the address I previously given here she decides to ask me the location of the car again(MFER!). She then got it in her little ant brain that the car was in accident( Not Once in any shape or form did I mention anything about a accident). At this point i will take my business elsewhere as I spent 30 mins of my life speaking to one of the most rude and dumbest people that was ever allowed to live.

This the best selection and yes it should be clean... i don't want to walk over a million car parts half submerged in the ground like jessup, md location.... every week this place is cleaned and organization is spot on we drive 20 miles past 2 others to go to this one!!!.... staff seems to be happy too!!!

I've been to both the Hawkins rd and the jessup locations and have had pretty good experiences. I never really interacted with the staff other than sign in and cash out very much but the experiences ive had were great. I've called both looking for hours, and every time I sign in they are friendly and tell me good luck finding my parts. I like the Hawkins rd location more as they have a ton of wj jeeps but it's slightly smaller than the jessup location. The jessup location seems to have more sedans and cars that are in worse condition while the Hawkins rd location seems to have more trucks abd suvs and its slightly more organized and clean. They are both filthy abd riddled with gnarly puddles you don't want to step in, but the Hawkins rd location isn't as bad. My main gripe is some of the prices make it marginally better than replacing with new parts depending on what you want. I went for a window regulator, 100 new and they wanted 25 for something I had no way of knowing if it even worked. Now I know there is much more value in other parts which is why you go to a junk yard, but 25% of what an electrical component costs brand new when you dont events know if it works is kinda ridiculous

scott loving

It's a bit out of the way, but this is definitely one of my favorite crazy race. I would definitely caution against coming here after it's been raining real good. And my experience it gets extremely muddy at this location. But otherwise they have a more unique selection than most of the other ones

They have lots of cars trucks and vans. You pay $2 per person to get in. And then you have to take the parts off of the vehicle yourself bring your own tools. I think the prices are a little on the high side. My brother went there looking for a tailgate for a 2004 f250 Ford pickup. They had one which was in rough shape it had a couple big dents in it was missing the tailgate handle and the chrome from the tailgate. And they would only come down to $48 for it which was ridiculous for the shape it was in.. of course he did not take it.

I went for the first time last Saturday near their closing time. I had a load of mixed metal. They greeted me before I even entered the gate, told me what their rates were for each metal and directed me where to go to weigh in. After that they directed me where to unload each type of metal and re-weigh so I was paid properly for each type. I was amazed at the courteous and professional service especially at the end of the day when they were extremely busy with a long line of people checking out. I will be a long term customer of Crazy Rays in Mount Airy, Maryland.

Before you could take a small part up that wasn’t even on the price list and they would ring you for “misc” and charge you 10 bucks or something. Now if it ain’t on the list they look it up on the computer and hit you hard. Over half the price of a new part for what I got. Takes the appeal of driving there, spending an hour pulling it, ( not knowing if it’s good or not) out of the equation. they no longer pay by the pound for cars. Wanted to give me 200 for a BIG heavy van that I can get 380 for at a real scrap yard. Yet another example of national corporation squeezing the soul out of a local legend

I used my bank card to pay for one item, but when I got my bank statement, they charged my account three time for one item. Please be careful, avoid using your credit card in this place.

RB Nash

If you are buying parts, the price of the parts are average. If you are selling you need to check elsewhere.

This location has many parts and ample inventory but the customer service SUCKS. The clerk, old blonde (think her name is Sharon), is ignorant and indignant. She yells at customers, and when the customer responds negatively to such rude behavior she calls security and has the customer removed from the yard. Management is aware of this behavior but does nothing about it. This lady could not possibly work anywhere esle and get away with this abuse of power. She is way too old, angry and stressed. All pls beware!!!

Sam Ghost

Called ahead. Drove 2 hours, get there at 4:25. And pretty much say to come back another day every ones tryna go home, took my money to eBay and bought what I needed, horrible customer service ! Would LOVE to talk to some one in charge!

I bought a filthy greasy horribly dirty seat for my truck and I love it. Just needs to be vacuumed and have a seat cover put on it. Its a junkyard what do people expect?? I got a split bench seat with good cushions and good springs for $60. How much would I have spent had I bought it from GMC?? and the dollar I paid to get in I found under the seat once I removed it. lol.

I Love crazy rays it's always a treasure hunt and the prices are very reasonable if you have a little know how to pull your own part I have been going here for years and most of the same people still work here I would recommend them to anyone looking to save a buck.

Jose Luis Turcios

Jenna Weatherholtz

They usually have what I need I like going there sometimes just to look around when I'm in the area

Amanda E

DO NOT LOSE YOUR RECEIPT! A DUP WILL COST $100 A duplicate receipt for a surrendered car will cost $100 - you have to go to the location that actually took your car and they can't fax or e-mail that would be too high tech! So if you work and can't get there by 4:30 you are out of luck and don't try to call - you'll get a lot of "honey and sweetie" but no answers to any questions...not even the phone number to their corporate office!

I like it but traveling from the district can be a headache. They should look into trying to put one near Washington D.C. Now some of the stupid regulations are gone it will be a good business move.

Selvin777 .

The gay was a cashier is to round hes not friendly.

My favorite pick-n-pull yard! Its better now that you can see what cars are in stock on their website.

Isaac Daily

The entrance is not well marked I drive right by it. It's tucked back off the road, nice yard well organized. Not to busy. Also it's an LKQ yard, not crazy rays

Lotus Wellness

There are so many peoples with tools looking for there car's. We where looking for our old Mercedes-Benz too small part which we didn't get what we want but something similar to try out but payed too high almost buying from chain's. Anyways i enjoyed my day like working in the garage without boss. Nothing to worry for damaging something to get something.

Christopher Guzman

Great selection for finding old car parts

K Ron

They suck

Michael Steeves

grape plants very disorganized with trying to find where on the lot they put everything none of the vehicles were labeled what row or number that vehicle was so I spent an hour trying to find the vehicle then no one told me that they were closing in 30 minutes about time I got back to the gate they told me to leave the item there and I'd have to come back the next day to purchase it.. it's nice that all the items were categorized online and and able to view just wish the employees on site or more informative.

well i am a woman and i love a challenge so CRAZY RAYS is my playground.I have been going there every since a male friend let the cat out of the bag about this place.Never had a bad experience there.I always find what i need.i was just there a month ago for a fuel cap off a saab 900 online it was 58.08 and i went there for my son car it was $.94. Now grant you my son is 28 yrs old and was about to order online and i told him to ride with me he was amazed and i know he will be returning. If anyone has a problem with CRAZY RAYS it's probably because this bargin idea was never for the LAZY.

They lie so bad. They tell you one price on the phone then when we get there they double it smh

Matt tS

I live 15 minutes away from this place and go to Crazy Rays crequently. I love that it's close, but it really needs some attention. The people behind the counter don't care about their customers at all (other than a middle aged woman who works there) and their inventory doesn't turn over that much. It's the same stuff every month or two. If you want a good inventory - go to Jessup. Hawkins Point is good too. Skip Erdman Avenue - it's very packed and hard to move. JULIO - it's not a carnival - it's a dangerous place where people HAVE died and continue to get hurt. They can't make a legal contract with a minor to protect themselves if he gets hurt. That's a hell of a reason to give someone negative feedback. It should be common sense if you know anything about law...Ignorance is no excuse
