My old man's truck broke down in their lot and he was denied entrance the first day he tried to pick it up because of a fire in the lot. The second consecutive day he went, he fixed one problem but found another. By today, the 3rd day they began harassing him about it, didn't care that this man has been coming here for years and that he is really trying. He did not abandon his vehicle and considering he didn't even get paid for the metal he scraped they should have cut him some slack. Rip offs!

It's a shame that this place had to go to make way for the Lincoln Yards project. The junkyard should have been preserved for historical purposes as the many industries in our city that made Chicago great are being wiped out to make room for expensive real estate development that should stop. People need to stop complaining about industries like these. They bring wealth to the city, not expensive apartments and sport arenas. This was a great scrapyard and a shame it has to go.

Literally a dump. Biggest polluters in Chicago. It runs 7 days a week for more than 12 hours a day filling kids lungs with junk and making a horrible noise. Looks just as bad as it smells.

It's a scrap yard. Nothing is 'burned' here, Lara. Incoming material is sorted by type and screened for various toxins, not only because it's required by environmental regulation, but because that results in a more valuable product for steel mills and foundries. Facilities like this are absolutely essential to 'protect our planet'.

GENERAL IRON IS BY FAR THE MOST HONEST, BEST RUN AND ENVIRONMENTALY FRIENDLY SCRAP YARD I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH. THE COMMUNITY OF LINCOLN PARK AND CHICAGO IS LUCKY TO HAVE SUCH A GREAT COMPANY RECYCLING IN THERE AREA.

General Iron a Scrap yard located in Lincoln parks historically Heavy Industrial land along the north branch of the Chicago River and is one of the District's last major Heavy Industries It Sits on A PMD planned manufacturing District Which protect an industrial District keeping residential and commercial development at bay however With the Redevelopment of the near by Former spots of heavy Industries Such as Finkl & Sons Lakin & Sons and Guttman leather Tanneries General Irons Future is uncertain What I Don't get is why some people who live near the site Complain about the Sites noise smell etc When it sits in PMD zoning When its been there longer then anyone else why would they move in a area historically for Heavy industries makes no sense then want to Push out high paying Industrial jobs that drive a Economy If you want live in Luxury Condos move to California or New York or some were downtown.

Multiple EPA violations, one of the largest polluters in Chicago, emits terrible smells, and fluff from this operation can be seen for multiple blocks around this facility. Their permit is from 5am to 11pm Monday through Saturday, but they continuously work beyond these hours. And they do not inspect, sort or reject any of the metal before they crunch and burn it into our air. Please help us make a safe environment for our children and protect our planet - change your procedures now.

A very large Scrap yard that is a hell hole to get in and out of. The place just needs to move and re think how traffic should flow in and out of a very busy yard. I avoid it like the plague. The special bonus of this place is it is now heavily surrounded by Whiny idiot liberals that cant understand that its business like this is what keeps America moving. What did they think it would be like living on a street that was once the back bone of the north Chicago river.
