Good hospital Great Dr's and Good Nurses

I'm very impressed at the vast size of this campus. Very clean and everyone was very friendly. Coming from Canada, there are only a few university's that I see as having similar school spirit. Canadian universities could learn a thing or two from this place!!

My husband was taken to UT by ambulance because he was having trouble breathing, feverish and just feeling badly. There was a full house in the Emergency Room and the examination rooms were turning over as soon as the next was cleaned up it filled up. Thank goodness the staff is great at thinking straight during such a fast moving, crazy busy time as to reconized his condition was such that he would be admitted in hospital. They diagnosed and started treating him for severe pnumonia as well as getting an X-RAY done as they were setting up getting my husband a room. My husband was admitted in hospital and had a CT scan done as well as breathing treatments, IV fluids with antibiotics, steroids and medicine for pain from all the coughing. Ultimately when the CT scan report came back it showed that my husbands right lung had a lot of damage from the pnumonia but also lung cancer. After having a bronchial scope to do a biopsy on the mass, in which my husbands heart rate went crazy high while under anesthesia (which has never happened before with the 5 surgeries in the last 11 years he's had) put him in ICU for 2 days. He was then put in a different room where he was hooked up to like 5 different wires and tubes to make sure that the staff had every bit of information possible. He joked about feeling like an octopus lol. After 7 days in the hospital he was discharged with appointments for several doctors, COPD, Pulmonary, Cancer Specialist, Oncologist and Pallitive care. He has since had a PET scan which the Doctor interpreted as my husband has Stage 3b non-small cell lung cancer, specifically Squamous. My husband is currently waiting for the upcoming appointments to get a Port put in for the Chemo to be administered as well as Radiation treatments for the next 6 weeks. **EVERY Single person that we came in contact with at All the different locations to include the Doctors, Nurses, aides, technicians, admission, the people that brought his meals to the janitorial people treated both of us with the up most Respect, Listened to us about us, and as we were/are Human Beings. It is the best experience we've ever had at the local hospitals. IF my husband was Treated with a Fraction of the Respect 4 months earlier in October 2017 When he was taken by ambulance to LaConte, was admitted on Saturday the 14th about midnight Only to be told there was no "Medical" reason to keep him and discharged him without the Doctor even coming to the room to debrief my husband. My husband was throwing up in the garbage can and still on a liquid diet the same Doctor put him on, we were made to leave, under protest of course, and shuffled out a BACK door by a Nurse and a Security guard which was really uncalled for. We were homeless and didn't have any insurance, just an almost exact situation with 2 VERY different outcomes. We truly hope that each person that has the unfortunate event leading to a trip to UT Hospital has the same Awesome experience that we had and continue to have with outpatient appointments and treatments. God Bless them All.

Hope to be there in the fall of 2016. Giving four stars on the basis of ease in application process.

TOUGH GETTING TOUGHER That is . . . tough to get in because of rising ACT scores, much to the regret of some Knoxville folks whose children attended local private high schools. Tough on the football field and preseason top 10 this year!

Sina Mirzaeifard

Was a master student here, loved it here and stayed for PhD here. Will be in top 25 very soon with this much progress every year. Go Vols

It's a nice campus, the art building was really impressive. It was easy to walk around. The "downtown" part is full of construction, so it isn't nice to look at

Rachel Chapdelaine

Best years of my life. This university will truly help you develop yourself academically and personally.

Billy Burkes

UT is a great school. They have many offerings for education, athletics, and extra curricular activities. I'm not a UT fan, but I'm sold on the school academically. The campus is beautiful and spacious. The football program has been destroyed, but you are attending for an education anyways. Don't let a squandered football program prevent you from earning a good education.

Michael Nguyen

Beautiful place, good staffs, nice Prof. In Spring 2013, I came and visited CS Department for research exchange. I met Prof.Adibi and others. That is a very good opportunity.

Nick Smith

Great school. Great education. Would go again in a heartbeat

The location is really nice and the tailgates are always fun on game day. The worst thing I can think of is the parking can be awful sometimes. They over sell the parking passes so you have to get to class early if you want to find a space. I found it difficult sometime later to find a place to park close to my house during the day since so many commuter students park on the street instead of the parking garages. Otherwise it's alot of fun, there's plenty of places to eat on campus and it's about a 10-15 minute walk to downtown/Old City or 5 or so minutes to the strip for more fast food type things.

My 6 Years here have been the best of my life..... southern hotties everywhere

We were there for the campus tour on a saturday, a most enlightening experience. Being comfortable shoes and a supply of water.

The staff here couldn’t give a care in the world if you learn or graduate. And they don’t teach you anything about getting a job in your field. Most of the curriculum is irrelevant. Plus, the programs are so convoluted with co requisites and prerequisites that you get screwed over when classes aren’t available (known as the “Big Orange Screw”). And they add an absurd amount of writing-intensive “Perspectives” classes in foreign studies and additional US studies classes and world history, so you really hardly take any classes related to your major. They want to be a Top 25 research institution but alienate the students who are TN students just trying to get an affordable degree with their HOPE scholarships. So many other universities have simplistic general education pathways and then you can dive into your major, but not UT. My advice, don’t waste your time.

Beaaautiful campus, great location...don’t be alarmed of the homeless population.it will slap you in the face one you go down Cumberland and turn on 16th. There are a ton of places to live around here. The campus is very diverse yet still a little separated. They have a lot of things to do and things to experience. The staff are helpful and the grounds are clean, I lived in Knoxville for 6 months and I pretended to be a student lol (I was suppose to enroll in the fall but I decided to transfer) it was an all art f great experience. Knoxville will always be a place for me to go

Thinking back on my educational experiences, I believe that the University of Tennessee was the worst. First, only about two semesters were applicable and intellectually stimulating. Second, half way through my Evaluation and Assessment Certificate Program, the administration in the Department of Educational Psychology and Counseling Program decided to make it a Ph.D only program and barred me from continuing, which blocked me from earning said certificate. Steve McCallum, head of said department at the time, told me essentially that was the way it was; too bad. I will never give a dime to this school as it cheated me out of a certificate and time. Most of my classes weren’t taught by the professor; just graduate students discussing ideas. I’m now getting an affordable online education and certificate from a school with more academic depth and reputation - University of Washington. By the way, did you know the your college of education has slipped around 20 ranks since 2007?

Good jobs game go go Tennessee

This university only cares about its students enough to make sure they can keep getting money from them through different tricks and traps. The parking is horrible and you have top pay for parking during events even if you are not going and have paid for a parking pass. Several of the dorms are falling apart but they still put students in them. The on campus doctors are a joke and completely incompetent. The dining situation is ridiculous and there are basically no real food options available at night and on the weekends.

Alexander Tee

Although the location is very good in the city of Knoxville, my time at this University has been marred by a list of negative things. The professors are not very helpful and many rarely give out A's despite the most studious students' best efforts. Most of the professors I had at UT had extremely large egos that prevented them from helping students complete the class. They may also be unwilling to have more than one office hour per week or provide extra help. Although I have nothing against professors of other cultures, a large complaint is that many professors also have such thick accents that confuse students. And the advisors couldn't care less about you finishing in 4 years. And don't dare even utter the word "exception" because of you need compassion or understanding, this school isn't for you. A common phrase at this University is the "Big Orange Screw ". The classes that you need are scarcely offered, so many students are unable to graduate in 4 years, and the increasing tuition and numerous fees makes it hard for students relying on financial aid or paying out of pocket. The parking is very strict. They have relatively expensive parking passes. However, they sell almost 2 passes per spot, so parking is extremely difficult. The parking authority tickets an absurd amount. It was reported that they make $2 million a year on parking tickets, 5 times the entire city of Knoxville. If you have unknowingly parked in a non-student spot you will likely have a ticket within 5 minutes. I parked in a loading zone to drop something off and had a ticket in 5 minutes. I also got a summer parking pass, which apparently needs to be mailed to you now. I've gotten two parking tickets in the two days I've been waiting on the pass. The construction on campus is constant. They have roads and sidewalks blocked off and loud construction sounds throughout the day. The dorms are also very old. They've finally been replacing some, but when I lived in the on-campus dorms it wasn't uncommon to find a rat in my incredibly old dorm room. The university also has constant alerts of rape and theft crimes. The neighborhood adjacent to the University, Fort Sanders has a very high crime rate. It has a reputation for break-ins, rape and general loud, drunken disorder (as does the campus, despite being a dry campus. If you report anything to the UT Police or Knoxville Police Department, many cases will not be responded to. There are also a lot of homeless people in that area, as well as the Strip where many of the restaurants and stores like Walgreens and Walmart. Finally, the University is not very tolerant of minorities. The sororities and fraternities run the school and there is a heavy party atmosphere centered around them. This is a party school, so if you aren't looking for that, do not choose this school. There's also a large number of rapes associated with them too. I was not involved in Greek life and felt uncomfortable or isolated because of it, despite most fraternity guys being rude to non-Greeks. The University as well as Greek groups are also rather intolerant of other races, religions, exchange students and LGBTQ+ people to name a few (having gotten rid of their Outreach center, as well restricting the Sex Week on sexual education in a sweeping wave of discrimination based on upheld religious beliefs at the University and state legislative levels). Plus people with large signs and Bibles will constantly remind you how you are going to hell for being different. Don't make the mistake I did of going here.

Blaine Bowman

Best school in the world. Great atmosphere, awesome sports, and amazing people!

Alex Techno

Meh. Kinda overrated school, and very little to no diversity in terms of race, culture, and types of student orgs. But it's getting there, just hope that butthurt basic enthusiasts don't complain about new students with -gasp- actually different mindsets. But otherwise, it's not really terrible, but it's not the best. We have a pretty good football team? And we do throw insane parties--I mean, organize amazing beneficial study groups with each other.

Easton N

I only made a visit here, I am hoping to transfer to this university from another university in California. UT Knoxville is a huge campus, and there are rooms for everyone. You won’t see a more beautiful campus in Tennessee! UT Knoxville is located right next to the Tennessee River, so for those who love tubing, u don’t need to go very far. It is definitely the most gorgeous university I’ve seen so far. For those who love the countryside, you only need to drive like 10 minutes away from the university, you can end up in the countryside easily!

Judy Morelock

The University of Tennessee administration regards lecturers as disposable garbage. Non-tenure track contracts can be terminated at any time without cause. Administrators don't care whether there is a legitimate reason to fire faculty who have no tenure, and they haven't the least concern for the damage they do to non-tenured faculty. If you are in this powerless position, you also must relinquish your academic freedom and freedom of speech. If you express your thoughts, you risk being fired. All it takes to lose one's job is a student complaint and one department head with a vendetta against the lecturer. Then, you can easily become the object of public scorn.

Tristan

Yeah, I never received the special treatment the athletes receive. I had to actually study and work hard. Must be nice.

Natalie Hope Warren

I can not imagine a better college experience! I loved my time at UT. Every prospective employer I encounter is impressed by my Bachelor's Degree received from UT. No better University out there, GO VOLS!!

Can't say enough good things. I went to a private college because I was hoping for a personalized and intimate experience. Instead...was kind of dropped on my behind and left to fend for myself. In researching colleges for my daughter many years later, I remembered how difficult things were on my own. I wanted a better experience for her. Not ONE University we researched was as attentive, informative and overall excellent at meeting our needs, answering our questions and helping us along the way. A lot has changed since I was in school. I truly believe Tennessee has surpassed all my expectations. My daughter is going to excel because of them!

Trevor Maxwell

It is a good school and is not nearly as political as other reviews are making it out to seem. People on the left say it leans too far right and people on the right say it leans too far left. All that shows you is that it is one of the few colleges that has a near equal amount of each side of the political spectrum.

travis rockhill

Very good school, however the parking situation and there staff are a joke. It seems like UTK's hiring strategy for parking officials is to find the laziest and most incompetent people available and give them jobs. With limited commuter parking and a plethora of staff and non-commuter parking spots available, the parking officers make it their life duty to punish everyone who cannot find a commuter spot, since they are constantly filled and require you to get to campus 30-40 minutes early just to find a spot, and take out all of the pent up aggression they have at their meaningless lives and take it out on the students. But hey, even though everyone was begging for more parking, at least we have a giant student union that 12% of the school uses regularly. And on the even brighter side if you do have a legitimate excuse for doing what you did, when you call and try to appeal, they just mouth breath the words "you knew the rules".

Heath Key

Greatest place on Earth! Home sweet home

VOL FOR LIFE GBO!

Elena Goldstein

Fun football games, the rest is terrible. Went for one year before I left. Constant parties in dorms and disrespect from roommates. Repeated reports to residential staff did nothing. The campus wasnt clean. Parking was essentially useless as there were not enough spots so if you used tour car finding another spot was almost impossible. Parking passes were way too expensive. Everything was way too expensive for the quality. Overall not a good school with bad support and quality of life for students unless they enjoy getting drunk and partying every day.

Aaron Floyd

I love the University of Tennessee and their southern hospitality! Everything about campus, the athletics, events, community service, etc. GBO

i would rate 5 stars but the football didnt win the east. Not only did u lose the game, but u lost my respect

Have my MRI done here once a year. Staff is good. But checking in before MRI is nonesinse. They never know anything. They quote you wrong on the bill you owe. Paid $854 for the MRI with insurance, get a bill later on oweing $173 for University Radiology to "administer" the dye used in MRI. Complete garbage. Would have just been a whole lot better to be informed of these fees and charges up front. NOT 2 months later

Tammy Peyton

Daughter is in coming freshman. Orientation was an experience you don't get with other colleges. Looking forward to the new family unit she will have!

William Bettencourt

Tennessee is a great school with several leading programs. In my opinion, Tennessee is best public research university in the state. The athletic programs are considered to be elite. Also, school spirit is strong.

mino

They are very picky about general education classes. I was going to transfer to UTK to finish my bachelors after I earned my associate’s degree in another state, but I figured out that they don’t take many out-state credits and pretty much I’d have to start all over again. So if you’re an out-state student, you need to be careful and make sure how many credits you can transfer.

Luke Mills

The school spirit here is unparalleled by any other school I've visited. Practically anyone you ask for directions, information, etc. is more than willing to help. The admission staff is very down to earth, and despite the size of the University, they consider you more than just a number. I am so glad to be able to attend this school in 2014, I cannot wait!

Rawan S.

Great university!
