REVIEWS OF St. Joseph's Indian School IN South Dakota

I was curious about where my small contributions were going so looked on Google maps to find it. It seems like a very nice school and I hope to go out there and visit one day. The children need all of our support so they will have a chance in life like many of us have had.

On my 3rd year of learning, caring, and sharing with Very Special children (and adults), that are a part of me, as I am of them. I love everything the children send to me. My family and I, want and will make a trip to South Dakota, to enjoy the company of generations of great courage.

Being a native South Dakotan I have appreciated this school. So often Catholic schools have tried to take away the culture of indigenous people. Within the last decade I made a trip to the school to check out the school from my California home base of 40 yesrs. I was pleased with the care by teachers and administrators. The culture and language is being perserved and the children are carefully cared for by house parents. I like the art museum and the encouragement. My cousin also from South Dakota and I his 80's had concern of the financial accountability. I trust that the funds are being used responsibly. I contribute as I am able. Phyllis Tyler

It is operated by highly educated personal who understand the importance of Native Americans, and their struggles in today's society.I can only thank this foundation for the importance put forth for education.

Be careful! They will directly give your contact information to every - EVERY non-profiteer and the mailings and phone calls will be nonstop. NONSTOP. How many trinkets and address labels can one person use? The "Indian" children can't be getting anything because they send out so many "gifts." They are very apologetic and nice (well-oiled machine) but this is irritating beyond measure. My mother donated to them and ever since, the flood gates have opened up with begging "organizations" and my mother who has dementia, spends all her time resorting tens of Christmas cards, hundreds of address labels, calendars, the list goes on. Instead of exploiting vulnerable older people, leave them alone. Just stop!

I donate to SJIS, and have for many years. I enjoy donating because not only do they accept my tiny checks, but BOX TOPS for EDUCATION. At Christmas time we send socks, toys and art supplies. Most always we get a letter of THANKS from Fr. Steve and the children.

I did not finish what I wanted to say before screen changed. To those people who post that St. Joseph is not what it claims to be I want YOU TO GET A LIFE AND BACK UP YOUR WORDS. Or get off the couch and visit St. Joseph and see for yourself exactly what it is, Boy, would you feel like a fool when you discover you judged before you knew what is what. I love St. Joseph and so do hundreds of children they have helped.

I visited St. Joseph's Indian School last year during April, and witnessed talented students with huge potential encouraged by very caring teachers. I had enquired about working with students, and was granted the privilege of instructing them in ceramics. The staff is supportive of each other, their charges, and the children's families: I was impressed, and hope to return.

I have been supporting St Josephs with various small amounts, but never have I ever felt my small contributions haven't been appreciated. It doesn't matter if I send a gift or if I send $ - St Josephs has always been grateful. I wish I could give millions but myself am low income and sometimes it is all I can do to send a small amount but St Josephs always has been thankful and keep me in the loop. Thank you St Josephs for being there for the children & supporting their culture which is very important to me that native culture be learned & not forgotten. Big blessings & prayers are sent your way.

I am an Alumni of this school. I attended school here 1st through 12th grade. I transferred to a few schools during part of fourth and fifth grade due to family issues but I liked St.Joseph's so I returned and continued. This school is amazing. The faculty are friendly and nice. I call a lot of the faculty my hunka family (adopted by heart family). St. Joseph's taught me well in all aspects of life from education, religion, Lakota culture, physical health, mental health, hygiene, time management, budgeting, volunteering, driving, cleaning, advocating for your self, sustaining yourself after high school, and they continue to encourage/support you through college. I am a senior in college right now. I am so thankful for the many opportunities that were provided through the school to not only me but to my peer, the previous alumni, and now to its current student body.

Haven’t been there yet. Would love to see and meet the children I’ve been sending money to.

Received a pkg in mailbox the other day. A key chain with Dream catcher & Peacock feather below that. Very pretty, but have no idea where it came from as I didn't order it?? It wasn't in a brown mailer, just the packaging with this company name at bottom...? Odd because I've had a wild peacock for almost 4 yrs now.

No experience other than our donation and receipt of cards, pens, stepfather, etc. Hope to visit one day.

I love donating to the children. I too live in a boarding house and have an indian house manager named mona karia. God bless and hope you have many happy years to come.

I enjoy helping this Indian school and the kids when I can. The underprivileged indians are never talked about it seems. Being part Indian myself means I don't mind helping these kids along as I can. Life has treated me well, so some of my blessings will go to them. Life has been a wonderful adventure for me. Pass along some of your blessings. You won't regret it.
