Worst decision I ever made, I lived in the dorms my first year and my privacy was violated by the RA and CA's. Basically you get what you pay for and the people almost have no class.

This is an excellent college campus with helpful professors and staff. I also love how updated the dormitories are. Everything on the campus is clean and well organized. If you are looking forward towards a successful future, IUP definitely tops all other universities to the core! We are the curious, the fearless, the determined!

I would never hire any one from this so called college if they cant get that humans have 2 genders right how can I trust their alumnus to get anything else right!

Great School. As with all schools: your education is what you make of it. I've been able to develop excellent work for my graduate program and if you have interdisciplinary questions- other professors were happy to help or direct me to labs where people could help point me in the research. Everything you need is here- you just have to take it

I highly advise anyone who is thinking of going here to try to find a different school. I am currently in my senior year here and it has been the worst 4 years of my life. It wasn't because of the classes even though they could use a little touching up, but the whole process of trying to do different things. One such example would be the numerous times were I try to schedule for the next semester and 1) Most advisers barely have any time for you even when you schedule meetings 2) Except for maybe 1 adviser, every single one basically left me in the dust, figuring out what classes I needed on my own or just to figure out my own problems. The just irks me so much since I am spending so much money for them to be telling me to figure my own problems out. Also each department office is horrible when it comes to helping students, most of the time you will be put through 7 different people before you get your answer and when you finally do, the answer is usually that they can't do anything at that is all. Being a student I am constantly worrying about one thing or another and they just don't care or are oblivious to all the troubles and worries of the students.

Great university. Great programs, Criminology, History, etc. The Department of Military Science, US Army ROTC, was a tremendous program and a significant influence on my life.

Nice place, good school, insufficient staff for higher quality.

Acceptance rate of 94.7%? Not surprising as this university obviously lacks integrity & a science department ... faculty does not understand basic human biology. And it shuts down any intelligent dialogue students want to engage in. What a liberal piece of garbage institution.

Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) is a public research university in Indiana County, Pennsylvania. As of fall 2019, the university enrolled 9,215 undergraduates and 2,110 postgraduates, for a total enrollment of 11,325 students.[3] The university is 55 miles (89 km) northeast of Pittsburgh. It is governed by a local Council of Trustees and the Board of Governors of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.[4] IUP has branch campuses at Punxsutawney, Northpointe, and Monroeville. IUP is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), and Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

You really can't beat a state school education in these times. I do not believe that the university should be building expensive buildings and sushi bars, but overall they are doing a good job. My advice to iup: stick to the basics to keep the cost low. Many current and prospective students will appreciate it. Computer Science and English Writing '18

I'm coming up on my senior year here, and I love it. College can be whatever you make it, and IUP has given me the options and opportunities to make my experience enriching and fulfilling. Their Spanish Education program is very complete and prepares me for the classroom, and many of the liberal arts classes and professors I've had really care about getting students involved in what they're learning. No university is perfect, but IUP suits my needs in every aspect. My only gripe is that on-campus housing and the meal plans are kind of expensive, but there are a plethora of good options for off-campus living and I usually cook my own food to save money. Nonetheless, great place for an education, especially for my field of study in particular.

Poor academics with professors that are not intellectually honest. Unfortunately, the professors do not educate - they teach their own worldview.

I just don't understand how a place of higher education could treat it's students as unimportant. Not that all departments are awful but the ones I've had to deal with are very unorganized and can't give me a clear answer for my problems. Scheduling is the worst possible experience anyone could have.

Aaron Nexsen

Even though I transferred out of IUP awhile ago, I realize now what a good school this was. The general education classes were fine. I never really had a super bad experience with those. But some of the teachers in my major were absolute gems of the field. I learned a lot from them. Campus is pretty too, but I have to say the dining halls' food really sucks. Just be careful with those. Although I wish some things were different, overall, IUP was a good experience because of the certain great professors I worked with.

This school sickens me with their decision to kick a student out of a "Christianity" class who was brave enough to stand up for the truth. I will never recommend this school to anyone for future reference and am so glad family members have opted out from attending this upcoming year. I am embarrassed to say I have ties to this mess of an institution.

Let's be Honest IUP.....kicking somebody out of class for having science based facts about Gender is abhorrent. You guys need to wake up and stop tolerating the political left wing professors who are giving you a bad name. This whole thing sounds ridiculous and this professor should get the boot. Stand up for once to the "stupid" left.

I go to IUP and I love it. Most of these negative reviews of from right wing nuts who hear one dramatic student experience and lost their minds. If anything the IUP president is a right wing nut too. Anyways, great school without involving politics. Also if you don't want your child around drugs/alcohol just hire professors to teach your child at home because drugs and alcohol are everywhere in the real world. If you taught your kid to be responsible then you won't have any problems!

Matthew Henry

As an alumni, I enjoyed my time at the university and the diversity of classes I took. Open conversation existed when I attended the university from 2009-2013. Diaglogue was encouraged and often times required in a course so diffferent views could be heard although they weren’t always accepted. I am disgusted to know that a student has been barred from a class due to his opinion and participation in a class. It is saddening to see that the university has moved away from what use to be a pillar of learning to ostracizing those who don’t conform and the suppression of free speech.

Excellent state college with dedicated faculty and forward-thinking administration. Students receive a lot of support from faculty and staff who truly care. Student/faculty research at undergraduate level as well as the graduate school. Big strides for inclusion and diversity have been made in the past few years. The visual and performing arts are vibrant.

My daughter was attacked by 8 girls 3 of which were students, had surgery for her injuries, charges were filed against the 3 students & they plead guilty and IUP has still allowed them to remain students at the school. The security cameras were inoperable in the Memorial Field House where my daughter was attacked and the other 5 thugs could not be identified. When will IUP be accountable? When will they protect their students that are not common criminals? Sorry excuse for a place of higher education. This story made the news and still nothing.

Its absolutly unacceptable that a teacher tries to shut up a student because he states the fact that there are biologically two genders. Its a liberal biased school. I hope Lake Ingle sues the school and, or, they fire professor Alison Downie for violating his 1st amendment rights. His scholorly carreer is at stake for saying facts.

Overall a great college. Came here over PSU, Pitt,Bloomsburg, and Clarion. The Good: Small class sizes (no more than 80), tuition is very reasonable, classes are taught by real professors (not grad students) and many of them will know your name and face within a few weeks, sports teams, campus is really nice and recent renovations make it even better, plenty of networking opportunities, town and surrounding area are ok, decent nightlife The Bad: Administration is sometimes disorganized, Extra curricular life, some frats think they run the campus, after first few weeks students seem to have no interest in meeting new friends, Career Services is run by people who have no real-world experience.

The dorms aren't even dorms they're literal hotel rooms and its amazing. So far the professor to student connection is strong as long as you apply yourself. The folgers dining hall serves really gross and unappetizing, sometimes cold food but the new dining hall (North dining hall) fixes that. The place is state of the art but its not open in the morning and the hours suck on the weekends, but hey you can't win em all I guess

I would say I'm fairly proud to have attended IUP. I dropped out of a community college in Erie, PA because I would've been $25,000 in debt after 2 years. I finished IUP with I think a bit over $11,000 for 4 years. Because of it being a state school, I got a good amount of grants through FAFSA (I had ZERO expected family contribution) I graduated in 2012, and I'm proud to say that I paid off ALL my student loans by myself just last year. I will now go through a list of what I enjoyed about IUP and what things I hope they will improve. Firstly, I began in the Spring of 2009. I flew by the seat of my pants cause I missed Fall orientation and enrolled late. I didn't know a single soul out there, but thankfully to the old style dorms of (Schaffer, Scranton, Lawrence) I made some really cool friends from across the state. Unfortunately, they have removed all of the old style dorms and I believe its substantially impacted the 'feel' and environment of the campus. The new suite style housing isolates students by having so many security entrances throughout the buildings. I understand the need for safety, but it was so awesome to cruise up and down the floors in the old dorms and chat with ppl that had their door open. The thing I love about IUP though is the amount of diversity. There are a lot of international students from all over the world. It was so cool to make friends with a bunch of people from India, as well as countries like Ghana, china, japan, Saudi-Arabia, and so many more. IUP has tons of clubs and organizations to get involved in! Definitely take advantage of that opportunity. Join everything and anything- (until you find what you like or where you fit in) its a great way to make friends and also its great on the resume. I studied Comm Media and I minored in Journalism. The Comm. Dept. was really laid-back with a variety of classes and professors. I would really like to only say positives about the dept. because I loved so many of the classes like TV production and basic Comm Media classes.I would honestly say that I wasnt as well-prepared for work in the field as I would have liked though. I dont think I was prepared enough for 'what I was going to specialize in' or where my passion is. We spent a lot of time doing a portfolio of work samples, but that doesnt help carve out your path in a field thats super competitive and requiring specialization. I feel that the financial aid office was always pretty helpful and there was never a really long line to wait. the cafeteria has significantly improved since I was there so students should love that. ( I actually worked for 3 years in the cafeteria to earn some cash and it was a great job. The staff was super friendly and I'm still close with a handful of them today through Facebook.) My final suggestions for improvement would be that IUP still needs to improve its campus climate and atmosphere. I've heard stories how IUP used to be so leisurely with students hanging out all over the place. Granted, they still have the Oak Grove which is just about the only green-space left, but they mostly have metal chairs, benches, and tables throughout campus for students to sit at. They seem un-inviting and lack a true casual campus atmosphere. All college students are 'Acceptance Magnets', which means we go where we feel most accepted. Sure, a lot of students can say "Hey, Im not here to make friends, Im here to study..." but the real honest truth is they all want to enjoy the best 4 years of their life by making friends and sharing stories and just enjoying the independence away from home for the first time in their life. Please continue to invest in making the campus more welcoming and inviting for students. Lastly, I dont feel so great about the IUP Alumni Office. Since I graduated, they have reached out to me for a donation, but they have yet to really ask if "I have a job" or "how can they help me?" Alumni is the most important thing to a college, its all about who you know... (or so they say) I would like to have a better way of staying in touch.

I ended up hating my field of study (which I had loved for five years) in less than two years spent there, many of my dreams were destroyed. The university is horribly underfunded, half of the staff are great, the other half are either pretentious academics who feel they are above everybody else and their word is the word of God or they just don't care. The campus is in the middle of nowhere with almost nothing to do on a day-to-day basis. Opportunities are very limited coming from this embarrassment of a university. I used to think going to a lesser-known school that was affordable would be okay, and now it is my biggest regret. I am now transferring, and even if I don't get into any of the schools I have applied to, I will not return. After two years at IUP, if I don't continue my higher education, I won't care.

Our annual convention was held here. The place is huge and magnificent. Comfortable accommodation and good cafeteria. Had a fantastic time. Love to visit again. God bless America and especially the people who opened up the university for the Christian convention.

I attended IUP from 1997-2001. Much of any life experience is what you make of it. IUP gave me the opportunity to learn what I felt was important to me. Years later, I realized that IUP made me learn what was important by requiring general knowledge courses in multiple fields. I had a great time socially, in sports, and academically.

I received an extremely inappropriate letter in the mail from this college trying to advertise to me. The PO Box Number was starred out to make it appear as if the PO Box was secret, and there was no return address present. The only thing inside of the envelope was a small cut piece of paper written by a typewriter that read "Who do you think you are?" and was surrounded by nonsense words and random letters randomly places on the page. It looked like a ransom note. There was a link typed at the bottom of the page, and after freaking out for ten minutes because the letter seemed so stalkerish, I typed the link in and it took me to the website for Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Not only will I not be applying, but I will be telling every one of my friends not to apply and I will be writing a formal complaint. This letter was not appropriate and actually very creepy. In this day and age of cyber-stalking and bullying, no college should be sending unmarked mail with such ominous and cryptic messages inside. Shame on you, IUP.

Was thinking about attending this "university"...until I found out how accepting of "diversity" they are not! Why attend a school where freedom of speech and scientifically accurate comments are literally thrown out in place of liberal agenda. Who's "interolerant" and unaccepting anyway??
