This university is DEPLORABLE!!!!! Tons of fees, self centered staff and faculty, corrupt administration, They have a 60% retention rate and a 40% drop out rate. this is due to the fact that many students do not feel that they are getting the education they want and deserve. Also, they do not offer what they promise. There is a lot of outsourcing of academic services which should come directly from the university itself. IF YOU PLAN TO ATTEND A FOUR YEAR COLLEGE, STAY AWAY FROM THIS ONE!!!!!

Some of the teachers are fantastic - but the the staff, the web services, and overall education is downright pathetic. Most of the classes seemed like they were geared toward babies - way too easy! Website consistently bugs out and bans me from my own account in which I have to call the IT desk and remain on hold for an hour just so they can fix the same freaking bug every single freakin' month. I learned so so so so much more about Math, Biology, History, Writing, ect., from doing my own research and studying outside the classroom because most of the teachers taught everything so poorly. On top of all that, random fees plague the school. You want your transcripts? The thing we just have to print out with a push of a button? 20$. You want to graduate after spending all this money on classes? That'll be 50$ Graduation fee (Yes I'm absolutely serious, that's a real fee). Plus we need to charge you 70$ for your graduation gown (Which I skipped out on because screw this school).

A JC education (at least for the first two years) for a slightly above state school cost. Not dissing JCs, just saying you can save the money by attending one. Anyway, overall, my time here was pretty 'good'. There are a lot of amazing campus centers like the WRC, there are great student resources, all of the programs seemed genuinely interesting and well-ran, I'm sure with the new student housing it is an even better experience albeit, its location across the street is eh to me after having lived in greensprings. The professors are a mix of good, great and meh. I didn't have any I would say were bad... The library is quite nice. The campus is very attractive and the town of Ashland is adorable of course. Not far away is Medford with all the suburban attractions and better shopping/prices. The Starbucks next to campus needs longer hours though! (Hopefully they changed them by now! What a loss of $ Starbucks!!) Overall the experience was good and I recommend Oregonians to check it out and out-of-state people to think twice,it is fairly pricey even with the WUE. MY ONLY COMPLAINT: I was forced to room with a minor (16 y/o who had just finished sophomore yr of HS). What the hell SOU? Who would allow (no, not a genius student who finished HS, a drop-out student who did drugs everyday I roomed with her and would hide tons of alcohol under her desk) a CHILD to attend your university? That immediately made me feel like my education was a joke. Oh and she also never attended class since we had one course together. If you're going to do that make them have a single. Seriously...

Graduating from SOU is an asset of my life. Besides the cozy, cleain, and beautiful campus that this college had ever had, I was never late for all my homeworks towards my graduation because the computer lab was large enough to provide all students at the same time and the library and the cafeteria were cozy and peaceful enough to concentrate on finishing up studying. Plus, almost all courses that I studied (buisiness major and Spanish minor) were very practical and up-to-date. All the professors and my classmates were very friendly, and I still keep in touch with some of them on Facebook today. I showed the campus once again the other day to my daughter, who is now a sophomore in high school, and she immediately loved it after I showed the art department building and Schneider Museum because she wanted to major in art-related subjects while she was a bit disappointed to look at art facilities or buildings in other colleges in Seatte and Portland areas. I wish she would switch her first choice to this college so that I could give her more advises.

Outstanding school in 1976 - 1980 when I graduated. SInce then, unfortunately, way too much shift to the left. Exposure... Fine Shaping/Recruiting.... No I sent my daughter to the University of Nevada, Reno for a balanced Faculty, not penalized for independent thinking.

This PUBLIC University is against free speech. It attempts to appear as if it favors free speech by creating free speech zones.

As a student and employee I always loved this campus.
