Challenging, intense and completely worth it. Take it from someone who went there. Just try your best while you're there and don't stress. You'll be surrounded by a ton of smart people so make to most of it and contribute; there are plenty of things to do there. Trust me... get involved, stay for things after school, and take challenging classes (don't take the bare min, even though that's more than other schools). Do that and college will be a breeze.

If you are a motivated student, there is no limit to what you can achieve here. A middle of the road student can get a great education - middle of the road for Stuyvesant is pretty much at the top of the class for most the schools. If you can get in, take advantage of it.

I'm a parent of a freshman - first impressions are that this is a phenomenal school. If you're smart, and determined to excel, you'll love this environment, as is clear from many of the comments. Teachers and other staff provide great support and encouragement to the students.. Thank you! Update #1: Freshman year almost over... and yes, this is an exceptional school (so long as you can manage the pace). The staff have dealt wonderfully with the ups and downs of the school year, and indeed the very challenging external environment (ie execrable behavior by some in politics who should know much, much better). Thoughtful, warm and kind, whilst setting high standards and expectations. Thank you again!

I am an alumna at this high school. The workload is heavy, especially for commuters involved in extracurricular activities, but I gained an immeasurable experience attending this school. My surrounding students constantly inspired me to keep pushing myself and to organically learn, whether from books, fellow students or teachers. Stuyvesant is a large school, with diverse students who have interests in various areas, not just science and math. In fact, I was more in touch with music and art here than I am now at my college. Students here are easily activated to do amazing things and then lead their fellow students to follow them. The school also has interesting classes, such as art appreciation, AP Computer Science, Creative Nonfiction Workshop (my personal favorite course), Introduction to Acting, and Introduction to Ballroom Dancing. The building itself is owned by the park and ten floors tall so students exercise by walking up and down the stairs.

Took the shsat at Stuyvesant. Proctor was a jerk, and there was a bunch of potheads there really a bad school, and the bad learning environment. There are barely any bathrooms, and the school has to accommodate over 3,500 students. Also the workload is so much that I heard that many kids want to commit suicide from all the stress.

Stuyvesant High School has been the best thing that has happened to me so far (other than the loss of sleep LOLOL). The teachers are great; they are friendly and helpful. afterschool tutoring and ARISTA tutoring is available for anyone that needs help. Best of all, you don't feel ashamed when asking for help because people will applaud you for your efforts! The science and math departments of Stuyvesant are undeniably strong, but so is every other department! There are so many electives offered that it's really hard to choose what you want to do! (FILL UP THEM SCHEDULES!) Best of all are the hundreds of clubs, teams, and publications! If you don't find a club you like, which is very unlikely, you can make your own! Yay! Last but not least, the people at Stuy are amazing, and the positive energy here is contagious.

I attended the old Peter Stuy on east 15th (Class ’69) and keenly remember Stefanacci (colorful history), strict Mrs Crystal (biology), Fliedner (principal), Donodeo (history), Mrs Tunis (math/probability), Marks (english), and many, many more dedicated, top-notch teachers. Many wonderful friendships formed there. Best education in New York City imo.
