A wonderful school with a diverse staff and many opportunities for careers and friendships. Great campus, great people. Love that the professors are asked to have experience in the industry.

Noam Kostucki

I love giving lectures there :)

The Harvard of Fashion. If there were 6 stars - FIT would get it!

The Corcoran Group

Visit this small (and FREE) museum and learn all you needed to know about the history of fashion. The exhibits are particularly inspiring.

Melanie Keiser

Worst service ever! All they care is the money! The student services is one of worst i have ever seen in my entire life! Asking me if i dont know what this and that means...i should go talk to somebody else. So why am i paying 20K as an international student? Worst!

Lolala Lolo

Love this place. This is my very first year here. Professors are great and over all staff is amazing. I don't recommend commuting though.. its hard to make friends.

Eduart S.

When it comes to the workers, security, and everyone else, they are amazing. The school is a safe school, great professors, and consists of 90% females.

From what I seen on the tour, the school's big,the campus engulfs most of fashion ave.in terms of academics,it's very mixed laboratories and majors on one hand, liberal arts and tutoring on the other,it's too soon to make a rating, but the school has a heavy social presence which is good,I felt like the faculty was supportive during the tour.

Claudia Kortez

great experience here! recommended to the students

I know this is a college but its more than that. It is responsible for making some of the biggest names and brands in fashion to date not to exclude Elmo and Barbie from having been invented by it's alumni. There is also a fashion museum (the biggest in the country) open to the public daily and a wonderfully creative bunch of humans always around the institute. Fit is a true fashion powerhouse here in NYC.

Beatriz Miller

It may not have the best facilities, but it is well worth the money you pay for

Chanell Chebuske

The teachers are fabulous but the facilities are average.

EXCELLENT, AMAZING 2 year program (Creative Enterprise Ownership) I completed at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). I was completely blown away at the expertise of the instructors who are real world professionals. Although FIT is known primarily as a fashion school, it has so many other unrelated careers including business and marketing courses which is what I enrolled in. Every moment I spent in that school I looked forward to and would recommend FIT to anybody. It was also affordable... each class cost maybe $150.00 or less. They make classes accessible to anyone of any income. I am a proud alum of FIT!

What's up F.I.T. that little pride flag you have in the window is so lame. Would rather have seen a cool display. It's kind of an insult. Nothing would actually be better.

The Fashion Institute of Technology (State University of New York) is an internationally renowned clothing and art design school founded in 1944 in Manhattan, New York City. Majors such as fashion design, advertising design, computer animation and interactive media, fabric design, interior design, fashion photography, fashion product management, etc. Founder Mortimer (rtimer c ritter) hopes that the college will become "a design school like mit MIT." Therefore, through unremitting efforts, fit has become a famous university with a rich history of success and a long-standing success under the impact of the urban economy of New York.

Paulette T

I adore this museum and go there all the time. They are all fashion studies, with dresses donated for the shows. Dresses by Chanel, Dior, Bob Mackie, Alexander McQueen. Way too many to mention. Let’s just say everyone who is anybody in fashion. One year they had a Goth exhibit that was mind blowing. What a place to learn, appreciate design, and just enjoy the talents of these amazing fashion icons.

Sierra H

Did the precollege there it was so much fun!

Priya Stammer

I will go this university after two year when i pass out from my 12th grade i love to go this university

I visited the Fashion Institute of Technology to check out the Superhero exhibit and lingered over the student projects that were on display throughout the campus area. Exhibits change from time to time, and the subjects vary, but they are almost always free and are nice to check out if you are visiting the area.

Tom Wilton

Very cool exhibitions from the understated to the eccentric.

Moses Apsan

My daughter, a student at FIT, loves the school and the staff. The training it provides for aspiring fashion designers is absolutely the best, bar none.

Sean Ken

Definitely a school for rich kids. I've met students here that are just so unrealistic and stuck up. I've also met professors here that are so in their own world also unrealistic and stuck up, this school was a joke. The professors honestly are artists that couldn't make it so they teach. Definitely a school for students that are ready to focus very hard cause if you're there to have some fun then expect to fail. Some staff are very nice if you can get into the Eop program then you're doing better than most already. Don't let the rich kids make you feel bad with their stuck up attitudes or if you see one of them one day pull up to school in a rolls Royce while you're just stepping out the 1 train. Unless you're a rich kid yourself with tons of mommy and daddy's money I wouldn't recommend this school.

This is my Alma Mater, my soul,my light into fashion. This school is the best if you can make and stand-by your commitment for learning and contributing in a creative and business model..

Mia Shibly

Going into this school I had high hopes. I wanted to learn all about the apparel industry and be educated on what it takes to run a "fashion business." Instead, I'm sitting on my computer deciding what "TBA" professor I should choose to teach me the same redundant material all over again next semester. That's FIT in a nutshell. The amount of overlap between their AAS and BS degrees is very disappointing. PROS: 1) Great experienced professors, when you are able to find seats in the VERY VERY limited selection of classes 2) Great industry partners, if you are willing to work retail for minimum wage or work unpaid running errands as an "intern" 3) Affordable and probably one of the "best" options in the tri-state MAJOR CONS: 1) Be prepared to not get financial aid refund checks available to you on time (Its 3 months into the semester and they haven't issues refund checks whereas most schools do so within the first month) 2) TOO many TBA classes when registering for classes. Whether its times, locations, professors (mainly). The database is filled with TBA. Don't be surprised if it stills says TBA a week into the semester. FIT on paper seems like the place to be, but for me at least, I wish my experience could've been better.

This aas a really nice campus and the staff was nice and give you a lot information. It was a great college to visit. I can see my daughter going to this college.

First year in school, just finish my first semester , all of my professor is very very effective in teaching , love my FBM first semester, love my BSN professor Christine Straggazi, very smart lecturer knows how to help you with professional growth. Best learning experience so far. If you came here to learn Fashion knowledges and willing to work hard, this place is a heaven, if you just want to waste time this place will be a hell for you.

Marie T Fisher

I visited for the temporary Undressed lingerie exhibit and was not disappointed. It featured historical articles, as well as iconic ones (Jean Paul Gaultier cone bras). The pieces were displayed in chronological order, which I appreciate, with plenty of space for sketching, ogling, and conversing. No photos were allowed, which I always find inconsistently strange (the equally fragile and rare Downton Abbey exhibit at Winterthur allows photos). Unfortunately, the permanent exhibits were closed, but overall, a worthwhile trip and I plan to visit future exhibits.

i went to an orientation once and it was very clear that i want to attend

My feelings are mixed about this College. I am happy to have the instructors I had for the few classes I took, but was very displeased with the rude, condescending, admission advisor Catherine. Not only was she pretty nasty over the phone but boasted about how well she was paid. It made me realize that I was not interested in contributing to the salary of such a person. With this new day in age, we don't have to go through the ridiculous, overpriced institution of College / Universities for an education. Technology has opened so many other doors for learning, practicing and advancing while offering convenience and an opportunity to avoid Debt. I'm so much more happy taking online courses at my leisure, connecting and learning directly from artists that I admire and respect, and saving from inconveniences of travel, traditional class scheduling, and additional expenses. I withdrew from my plan on taking further courses at FIT and still have not received my refund from those classes which I withdrew (2 months+).

I may be only 10 yrs. old but this is my dream college. All of my friends want to go here to.

I went to this so-called school and was very disappointed and extremely annoyed. First off, the curriculum for the majors are mostly liberal arts classes than classes that pertain to your major it's a serious waste of time. And the classes are very redundant it's like you're taking the same classes over and over again every semester. Secondly, this school is ridiculously expensive it has the same costs as a private university which FIT is not its more like a community college if that. And you're paying all that money to take liberal arts classes with so called professors that I don't even consider professors- they are just there for the paycheck and weren't even teaching the material that pertained to the class they just talk about they're lifestory. What are you really paying for? This so called school is a serious waste of money it's extremely ridiculous. Thirdly, the students and the faculty and staff are very rude and racist -yes that's right racist. I can't believe this school gets away with the amount of racism that goes on in that school- I'm definitely reporting them. There were even staff members that would be extremely racist towards me and I wonder how they're getting away with it in a school. FIT is very disappointing in every way . I have no idea how they get away with the things that go on there-some of the things are even illegal. It's funny how everybody who likes fashion wants to go to school here and then get a job in fashion because reality is a lot of students don't even get jobs in their field when they graduate the closest they get is being a sales associate at a clothing store- another disappointment. I only gave them one star because I had to.

JUAN JIMENEZ

BE CAREFUL I am very disappointed with this institution because I canceled 2 courses and they charged me a lot of money and they did not refund the total I paid. I lost almost US300 dollars just in two days, one day in enrollment and the other day in class. In the Bursar Department they are just interested in the money of the students, not to help students, they offer explanations about tuition, but they don’t know anything about tuition, and made me more confused. Is very hard to find money to pay the school to loose almost US300 dollars IN TWO days. Alot of charges and payments, it doesn’t happens in other school or college in NYC. My experience in this institution was frustrating and upset. I traid to find help the same day of the cancelation in the bursar department and register department but it was so difficult and unhelpful. Juan Jimenez.

Do you love art? do you shoot photography? DO you want to advance in life? This is the school to go to

Michael Abreu

I haven't left this school in 5 days. I've been too busy working non-stop to finish all the final projects. Oh god. Help me.

Great school! Good pizza nearby

Lina Jordan

it must be named after me because i googled my name on maps and it came up with this, im so gifted

Alejandra Rivera

The faculty is extremely rude and unwilling to help, esp. the bursar's and registrar's office. In addition, you will encounter some of the dumbest and most illiterate human beings on the face of the earth in this school; their levels of stupidity are honestly unfathomable. I honestly would not recommend this school to anyone.

Very good school with lots of hot girls

I've attended FIT every summer for their precollege summer classes. All of the professors I've met are very very good at what they do. They know their field and are very talented. The campus is really big and convenient, since it's in busy busy Manhattan. I plan on applying to FIT this winter for undergrad admissions. It's a SUNY, the tuition is cheap and definitely a steal for the price. My biggest problem here was with the classes. The material is often shallow and it's really on the student to get into it and really go far. The professors again, are very talented, but the classes are so overcrowded that individual attention is limited to a mere 5 minutes, tops, per student. I was also the only guy in one of my classes (not complaining), if anyone's interested in that.

Ni Ni Jenks

I've never been here but my senior year in high school I was accepted to this school and it was my dream school. I just didn't have the funds to move to NY.

Lydia C.

It may not have the best facilities, but it is well worth the money you pay for. You've gotta be mentally emotionally prepared to be thrown in among competitive students, especially for design majors. I'm in the design field, and i have to say we've got some amazing professors that will break you and build you at the same time.

Does anyone know if a commuter student has to stau overnight for fall orientation and if you have to attend orientation for all 7 days? Thanks!

Kato La

As an adjunct faculty, it is a great university to teach a liberal arts course in a unique setting - Teaching the concepts to apply to the students' majors as oppose to the nitty gritty, though that may be important at times as well. Opportunity for campus community involvements. Students are well-receptive if you are the same. The inconvenience is the literal flashing of photo identification at every point on the campus, unless you make some rapport with security.

Ankur Kanungo

Great seminar and good audi

Ezra Gillanhall

FIT has got to be the worst school I've ever experienced and been to. The curriculum is horrible- it seemed that there were more liberal arts classes than classes that pertained to your major. Also, the teachers - I don't consider the instructors there professors so I call them so called teachers, they don't teach and I didn't learn anything. The other students and faculty and staff are extremely rude and stupid-they don't even do their job they are seriously collecting a free paycheck. This is probably the only school they can get into which makes the school unbearable to stand and I have no idea how this school is accredited. It;s a serious waste of time and money to go to FIT. They don't even deserve one star I only gave them one star because you have to in order to post this comment.

Just have a dreams, I didn't no what he was but i look the internet and I find out that it was a university, ,,,,, with a lot of people famos,.

Expensive Scam. Fashion Institute of Technology is an overpriced scam of a state school designed to bleed poor saps who move to the city dry. Do not apply unless you have lived within NYC for over 1 year and have been employed full time.... or the school will take all your money and then give you the cold shoulder!

Felix

Great School, If you love Fashion, definitely visit their museum. The students rock out amazing ideas/designs.

Gladys Rivera-Martinez

Beautiful campus! Everyone is super helpful and awesome! My sister is going to FIT - Class of 2021!

Stella Schour

You cant beat the price of this SUNY institution with a stick. I am proud graduate of their AAS program. Most of the classes are for credit. Art and design classes are awesome and the teacher is knowledgeable and the school facilities are great. You dont have to be a matriculated student to take continuing ed classes - but if you take the continuing ed for-credit classes and apply to be a full time student, all those classes will be credited. If you want to get into the school of art and design/fashion - the application is tough!

J Dave

Daughter attended FIT and they kept telling her that she needed extra classes to get her degree...transfered to university in Pennsylvania and graduated with honors in timely manner. Just be careful of them "adding" requirements.

JESUSA NISTHAUZ

Currently finishing my first semester here. Absolutely love it. The work is straight onto your major, and everyone is completely focused. Currently I'm dorming, and made life long friendships. I recommend this school if you want to hear it straight from the people in the industry. Yes they may not be the best "teachers," but they are wonderful mentors. The only flaw is their dining hall, but no one expected it to be world class anyways.

Jen Yerkes

More than just stuff for students here. Great seminars, presentations and short term summer courses. Get on the mailing list to get the schedules. They even offer 1 day city tour classes at reasonable prices.

Shirley Gao

Very unique. I would not know it's a school if I just walked by. Although it is located between busy blocks but the inside had a very quiet and peaceful spot! Amazing

Jeremy Buro

Good school, needs a bit of renovating

Patrick Daniel

Probably the best school in New York if you are into fashion.

M Y

Toy design is the best. Very informative, Helpful and highly knowleaged faculty, 'warm-hearted and caring each other atmosphere.' really Care each student to grow as a professional Great prepare to start working in the toy industry.

Robert Guzman

People from all over the world enjoying NY for their first time

Kalle Sauerland

Very fashionable

Alessandro Casagli

Coolest school in town. Check it out

Cindy Brinkman

Every time:: excellent exhibitions!!

jessica vargas

Does FIT offer a career in fashion styling? I entered the website and the closest to fashion styling is fabric styling but its not the same and I really want to be in this school but i want a career in fashion styling not fabric styling

GABRIELLA STEVENS

Comments are right about it being hard to get info/assistance from office staff, especially the bursars office. However, the professors are great and are still active in the fashion industry. On top of that, the health services are AMAZING and offer free acupuncture and counseling (even if you aren’t on student insurance). School clubs usually host fun events, like the Drag Show and movie nights, or offer freebies, like massages and henna tattoos during wellness week. The library also has some great services like a magazine archive, fun events, and a VR lab. If you’re not too into greek life and your looking for a quirky, creative school you’re gonna love it here!
