My daughter was bullied, which happens, but it bothered me that the school never contacted me about the incidents they knew about. They swept it under the rug and left my 12 year old to face her 14 year old harassers by herself.

They don't teach your kids anything about responsibility. We open enrolled our kids into the school because they claim to prepare them for high school and college. Now that I have worked in that school I have concerns. Bullying happens in front of teachers and the teachers look the other way. Theft from the cafeteria happens and the children aren't disciplined. The staff is told to take the stolen food away from the children. The principal isn't involved and the parents never know that this is going on with their kids. There's no repercussions for handing in homework late. I don't know how this is supposed to teach and prepare kids for high school and college where you fail if you don't turn in homework on time. I've talked to other parents who feel the same as I. They do not care about your child's future. They seem to only care about not making a big deal out of bad behavior to keep the school from looking bad. The parents who's kids are steeling from the school have no idea their kids act like this.

I hear that asylum's get better reviews than salk middle school. There is a drug problem here and there are lots of bullies. I also know that we are told not to defend yourself in self defense or you will get suspended. They claim that they stop the bullying but even the teachers are so blind that it happens right in front of them and they don't see it. The nurse acts like a principal and it smells like a nurse home inside of there. So what I am saying is that there are better schools in the district to send your kids too.

Salk pushes all of its students to achieve. This is one of the schools best, and worst traits. All students I've talked to have said the same thing, in being that we dont have any time or energy to be kids. Around third quarter every year everything piles up and all of the teachers assign more and more. The school and all of the teachers are great over all but the amount of stress being put on the students , not my favourite .

This place is horrible they sell expired chips for Lunch and the teachers don't care about anything like when a kid brought a gun to school and the parents didn't even get a email

This school only is concerned about their "score" and not the students learning. There are no penalties for students handing in homework late, they get to retake tests to improve their scores all for the benefit of the school showing higher test scores. This will do nothing to get the kids ready for high school, college and the real world where it's not like this. Bullying happens in front of teachers and if the student says nothing due to being too scared, the teachers don't do anything. There are much better schools in the area that are a better choice for your children. - a parent who's kids go to Salk

Salk provides opportunities to meet new people. I met my best friend here at Salk. They want to prepare you for your future and although sometimes what you're doing may seem pointless, you tend to end up later seeing how it helped you. Science Fair and History Day can get stressful, but they teach you good skills that help you in other things. The homework can sometimes seem like a lot but it really teaches students to make the most of their time and it also teaches prioritization.

i've been there for 2 years and this is about to be my last. it's one of those schools that do not care. i have been harassed because of the color of my skin and where i am from. i go to a trusted adult but the school does absolutely nothing and i'm very uncomfortable there. i have also been harassed because of my body. i highly recommend that you should think twice if you're trying to send your child here.
