Not to stand out like a sore thumb, but my experiences with MSU have never been pleasant. Taking a campus visit I was greeted with rude staff who tried their best to make my day horrible. The students are...how can I say this? Wild animals. The classes are too large for any professor to know you as anything more than a number and the atmosphere is beyond unwelcoming. I'm not sure whether or not I was just caught in a bad day, but as far as I'm concerned I'd rather be studying in Hell. It was THAT bad.

I went to MSU for grad school in the early 2000’s at an extension campus after teaching school, but I have to say I strongly disagree with their decision to remain open amid the snowstorm. It’s dangerous and stupid for a day of education! Not all students live on campus and some will be driving that includes staff. Students who walk are risking slipping on ice, frostbite, breaking bones from falling and getting hit by cars who have less experienced drivers with snowy conditions. Not to mention these dangerous windchills! It’s better to close before a student needlessly dies and the family sues!

PLEASE DON'T READ ALL THE NEGATIVITY SURROUNDED WITH THIS SCHOOL, THERE ARE STILL POSITIVES SURROUNDING IT! Me and my mother visited this campus today (7/27/18) for their white and green day event. I really enjoyed the event because of the amount of information I gained from the admissions staff, students, and other staff members. However, MSU has been plagued with a bad reputation ever since the Nassar scandal and the school is slowly trying to do damage control. This scandal might make incoming freshmen wary about coming to the school knowing there has been such an instance. MSU's tuition has gone up in the previous years and I think it's a little high and they should make it more affordable. Same goes with their parking permits. I like how they offer many extracurricular clubs/activities for people to join (even unusual ones like squirrel watching). I also like how large the dorms are and the student help you can receive if you're struggling with a certain subject. What I don't like is the construction around the campus because it slows down traffic, but the school has the construction to make the school better and safer. I may not be a Spartan right now, but MSU, despite its flaws, is still one of the schools I'm considering to go to. Go green! Go white!

I loved the variety of study abroad programs that were available. My experience in Tours, France during the summer of 2002 was absolutely amazing. I also participated in an alternative Spring Break to Quebec City, Quebec. I'm still friends with people from both experiences even ten years out of college. My sister, from the class of '12 went to Valencia, Spain with MSU, and also found it to be a life-changing experience. The campus, especially the North end, is absolutely beautiful. I just love the older buildings, including the Mason/Abbott/Snyder/Phillips complex. That was a great place to live for short walks to class if you were in the College of Arts & Letters. I really enjoyed shopping and hanging out on Grand River while an undergrad as well.

I have been n FFA and 4H since I can remember, in that time I have visited MSU millions of times. This school has a big campus but it is amazing like no other! The staff and the students are helpful and nice. Even though the class sizes are huge you can make a connection with your professor by actually going to see them and talk to them. I would recommend going to this school.

Friend is trying to transfer there. He has a 4.0. He completed what they said was the required math class over the summer while working full-time. He got turned down by them because they said "There is another math class you had to complete that you didn't." BULL. That class was suggested and you told him specifically when he asked about it that it was not required. And if you had told him this when you said you would the first time, he would have had time to take that class this fall. The college may be excellent, but it it TERRIBLE for transfers.

I guess the university earned quite a lot of fundings by squeezing from the students every single penny of their money? Also, the only reason the university take in so many international students is probably they need them to boost their rankings, and of course, the money from their pockets are desirable as well. But then why on earth do they treat these students they rely on with no intentions of getting them really on a good track of education , instead of simply discriminating against them, pushing them around ? It's an excellent university with great professors. The technology is extremely modern and always being updated. The picture shown of the computer's in MSU's library. The Internet speed from a hardwired connection (RJ45/Ethernet) is almost always about ~900 megabits down and 900 megabits up. The WiFi, though, is extremely lacking. Ensure you have a nice data plan when you attend.

I recommend touring the campus, it is very large filled with many friendly kids and staff members! This college was very welcoming to tourists. It is also great for learning about new campuses and how a college works! I truly recommend this college!

Went to school here. The first day I noticed how many simply attend MSU for parties and didn't work at all to be admitted. While I spent my days in class or at work, my roommates or hall-mates were blasting music, skipping class, having intercourse, and getting drunk. Class sizes are too large, and despite my efforts to attend office hours and get to know my teachers, many didn't seem to care about anything other than getting their checks. New teacher's were brought in and received no training, when this caused students to fail an exam (60% of the class), ZERO apologies were made and the students were blamed. Racist and sexist speakers were allowed on campus and the culture was not made for people to succeed. The University exists to get money from people's freshman and sophomore year before they wise up and leave. Regret having attended here and advise students to ignore the sporting programs and it's long history, and leave the school to clean up it's act.

I wrote a very detailed review of why this place is garbage but lost it when I accidently refresed so here's the main points: 1) Geared towards profit, not for actually teaching, with huge class sizes. Many classes are taught more by overworked TAs than the professors. Not that a lot of professors know how to teach anyways. 2) Commuting students are placed at a huge disadvantage, with most student activities and plenty of exams ending after the campus bus stops running at 7pm. Which wouldn't be that big of an issue, if commuters didn't pay $100+ for the privilege of being allowed to park on the one lot as far from the core of the campus as possible. 3) Classes are practically structured to give disabled students as much trouble as possible. There's a huge emphasis on timed tests. I've asked one professor about extended time limits because I have an anxiety disorder, he lied to me and said that wasn't possible, so I didn't bother filing for accommodations until it was too late. Also there's only a few actual desks at the back of the classroom for disabled students, which are often taken up by abled students. The half desks everywhere else definitely aren't suited for writing with tendonitis. 4) Elitism, only a certain amount of credits are accepted from community colleges despite all of my community college classes being VASTLY superior to any at MSU. Anyways I was a 3.7 GPA student making good progress on my degree despite my disabilities before going here. I would have to retake about half of my classes if I stayed here, and the thought of staying here gives me panic attacks. This year has been a waste of time and money, while I took a huge hit to my mental health. And health in general. I haven't been sleeping well at all. I'm very tired and my depression/anxiety/tendonitis have been boosted due to stress and lack of self care. Please go somewhere else. And attend community colleges like Jackson College and Lansing Community College as much as possible before university. Maybe find a nice technical college instead because as far as I know all universities are like this.

Children's Gardens, Beaumont Tower, river walk, and MSU Dairy Store (for ice cream) are some absolute must-do activities. Wharton Center for Performing Arts brings top-notch entertainment.
