I owe Avon HS a lot for all its given me, but a Google review is a way to start. Firstly, school is what you make of it, and Avon does a fantastic job of rewarding students who are willing to try, work hard, and put forth effort. There are tons of clubs, all of which host "call-out meetings" designed to attract new members, and the groups really allow students to fit in and find friends who are like them. There are sports teams that cater to rookie and varsity athletes, but truth be told I don't know much about that side of AHS. And there are honors and AP programs that promote student achievement, with teachers who really put time and energy into teaching their students and helping them succeed. From AP and Dual Credit classes, I am able to start college as a Junior at Purdue, and although its a little bit of a stretch, that means Avon HS has saved me (theoretically) $50,000 in college tuition.
Mr. Shockley is an amazing spearhead that guides Avon in the right direction, all with a great team of VP's, Counselors, Teachers, Custodians, Directors, and Advisers behind him.
I urge anyone who is evaluating Avon High School to consider its reputation as an academic leader, an extracurricular powerhouse (hello marching band), and a great school for athletics. This place will give you all the opportunity you need, if you give it the time and respect it deserves.
