Horrible. Been asking about one specific question for 4 months where it requires use of a website that does not contain the things the book describes. I stopped making payments bc we got no response, now they claim they wont help bc account is delinquent..... duh, nobody is making any payments if we can't even get a call back. Student is Brittani Robbennolt.

This school’s online progam is a joke. Its impossible to get all your books/ needed suplies from them. And its almost impossible to get ahold of them. The supervisors say they dont know anything reguarding classes or grades because they aren’t the instructors, but then the instructors say that they dont keep copies of the exams so they also have no information to help anwser question. Its absolutely ridiculous on top of the fact that they lose your work. DO NOT INROLL IN THIS SCHOOL. It was my worst decision ***UPDATE**** the "school" commented on my review to email the customer relations and I did that. 2 months later still, no response. This just proves my point.

I was very disappointed with this school. I was quite sure I read the application very carefully and it was to my demise that I read the contents wrong. I was not aware that they go about payments per course. I thought I signed up for it by monthly payments. I didn't understand why it was taking a long time to receive courses that NJ requires. They told me if I need more books for him I had to send additional payments and I'm like my payment is not due tip the 1st. I had just enrolled him and frankly I do not want him to sit around all day doing nothing. I'm not sure of this school yet. Why will I send them more money when it hasn't come evident to me that this is a school fit for my son? I have my daughter enrolled in American Online High School for AP/Honors and they sent all of her classes. I enrolled her a week after my son and he receives only psychology!? What? So I removed him before it becomes a bigger issue and more money is lost. So far the other school is doing good for me even though they had their issues in the past. There are many home school programs now. I just don't understand why people run so many games. Sometimes you get what you pay for. By the way, they send every correspondence to the student and nothing to the parent unless it is for a payment. I found that to be very odd and unprofessional.

Overall it's a decent school. However, many of the elective classes they offer were "unavailable". The online math classes are far better than their traditional classes.

Well this school is too easy. The courses cost hundreds of dollars and it seems that you are paying for all the books and study guides, but I did all of the exams without even touching the books or study guides so its a waste of money. All of the teachers leave very helpful notes and the classes seem somewhat effective, but you aren't really learning much. Another issue is that you are missing out on the socialization that you receive in school. But in that same sense, you can do all your work in an hour or so and then go hang out with your friends if you have any. So really some of the flaws aren't because its this school in particular, but instead its more an issue of the fact that this is a mail-order school. Lets not forget that most of these exam answers can be Google searched and you can find all the answers on Yahoo answers. I don't advise you take these courses unless you couldn't care less about your future and just want to get school over with so you can go partake in illegal activities. (personal experience)

WAY too tight grading system. I may have to work harder, but when i was homeschooling for NDCDE, i did not have to complain about their issues. Please fix the grading system...

Pixelmafiaa

They are good... slow at grading but I guess other then that they're fine.

If I could give higher than 5 stars I would! I personally used this program for high school as a young student in the 90's, and learned so much from the studies provided. Even though you are not in a school building, you still have one-on-one interaction with the teachers in each subject, and the teachers really do their best to give you direction and guidance. I loved this program so much that I am enrolling my son for his high school career.

Ashley Cothren

They are all such great people there! I have met a few that have graded my work, very nice people to work with. If I need help they are there to help without judging. Great school!

Do not do the payment plan they offer I enrolled my daughter for freshman year in American schools they told me she would be working at her own pace. Starting out it was all good but after three books they demanded double payments before she could receive her next one stating she was finishing them to fast. The school year ending isn't up until October clearly I told them she would be attending public school in August for her soft more year. So how is it that she can work at her own pace but when she finishes the book early which wasn't early the books estimated time to finish was 6 weeks they say they can't send her another one unless two payments are made the next two months for each book So I asked so what am I suppose to to do keep her out of school for the next two months ? The advisor said well she is working faster than scheduled and finishing them early. So don't be in a rush to make your child do the work because my daughter works three hours a day on a subject I guess they only intend for your child to do school work an hour or less per day so really what kind of school is this ?definitely not a work at your own pace unless your slow ! And they don't stick with the payment plan as scheduled ! I wouldn't recommend.end this school to anyone !

Never had a problem with this school. Every time I had to call for a question they have been very helpful. I could send in exams at my own pace as long as I didnt try sending in like 3 exams in the same envelope, I was good. They do take 2-3 weeks to grade and then another week to get your exam back. Best bet is to continue doing exams anyway and send them in.

I graduated in 2001 from American School! I started homeschooling because of the public school system. In my town it was failing. And still is. I started my sophomore year. Even with a having a baby, I still graduated on time. I went through the correspondence program. I thought it was Great! Worked at my own pace. I would recommend it to anyone!

This school has been nothing short of difficult. The grading is ridiculous and the fees are as well. I’ve called the school to no help and no avail. I would NOT recommend this schooling. Go somewhere much easier, like Penn Foster. American School is more like college level classes (very hard ones) while only giving you high school credits. It’s not worth it.

I love this school. I do the online program and it's very good pace it's not to hard and not to easy. The teachers for each class were super nice. When I was finishing up my English literature class I had a hard time with the question you had to answer after reading the book but the teacher walked me through it and this is my second year going here and I will continue.

some of the customer service ladies are very rude and unhelpful. and i think that is very unproffesional as the best way to communicate is through customer service.

I took an online Creative Writing course, because it was the last credit I needed to graduate. I had some difficulties in the last week, because I needed the last part of my course to be graded and the deadline was approaching fast. I was very stressed and very impatient, but in the end it worked out. The Gradpoint Coordinator, the representative that helped me, and the President were very helpful in making sure everything got finished in time.

Adnan Khashab

A little too easy & slow at grading, but overall affordable. I was alot more confident with letting my kids enroll in this program than in public high school.

j c BARRETT

ABSOLUTELY do not use this school! They are inaccurate and unresponsive to deadlines and working with schools and parents alike. The damage that it causes to a person that is trying to graduate from high school with their graduating class because of an archaic response to grading and inaccurate grading is unconscionable. Find another alternative for the well-being and success of your student.

Irina Yarmakovich

This school can care less about you. I thought I was done and waiting for my diploma but I had an incomplete test that was still there no call or mail. While I was already applying for college I called them and someone stated to send it in my overnight mail to push the process along. After paying $40 for mailing it over a week goes by and nothing. The day I’m supposed to pick my classes I call in to see what is going on to what I got a response of “your out of luck” it takes 10 business days to grade? Really? they don’t care about you or your problems. Fine but they don’t even care about getting you into college! So here I am stuck.

Dana Harper

Laura Gramenz

Overall, not bad. Thankfully, since I enrolled my daughter, they have an online option. We're still using the paper option and it takes up to three weeks to get a test graded. One math book got lost in the mail, forcing us to try to finish the last two math classes in time to graduate before my daughter enters college in a few months. I'd recommend hiring a very good math tutor for their Algebra and Geometry courses. The text is terrible and the study guide is useless. They are, however, accredited and their curriculum meets college entrance standards.

Linda Blackman

So far, it’s been very good. I recommend taking paper based courses, but with the option of online exams. This way there is nothing to snail mail back and forth, and everything has been graded very quickly. But for the math classes, online is better than paper/book. The online math courses are very easy to navigate and the online explanations are easy to understand. All the staff I’ve had contact with have been very helpful, but to have anything recorded and remembered, you must put it into actual writing. American (in Lansing IL) is very affordable compared to other accredited distance schools, if you choose a diploma program. You can pay a little extra for more lab sciences, all online math courses, and extra math courses. Since it is self paced, it is possible to graduate in less than four years. Expect to do your own writing for every assignment. With the online tests, you can write in your own preferred word processor at your own pace, and then copy your work into their website. It’s very easy to use.

Love it when I did the high school it was fast and easy and I got to go at my own speed. An had great instruction from the teachers

Lizzie Pants

This school is horrible! The people are careless and unintelligent in their grading. This error often results in a lowered grade. If the answer is not word-for-word, some people will mark the question as incorrect. On multiple occasions, I had to resend exams due to the carelessness of the graders. If you want to have a significantly higher chance of going to college, do NOT enroll in this high-school. This is the worst high-school that I have ever seen. Again, do not go to this "high-school."

If I could give them zero stars I would this is the WORST ONLINE HOME SHCOOL COMPANY EVER!!!! I HAVE HAD TO SEND MY DAUGHTERS TEST IN OVER AND OVER TIL I JUST GOT FED UP AND SENT THEM 2 DAY MAIL SO I COULD TRACK THEM I PUT 6 TESTS IN ONE ENVELOPE AND LOW AND BEHOLD THEY ONLY GET 3!!!! MIND YOU THESE ARE THE SAME 6 TEST I HAVE SENT 3 TIMES BEFORE THIS SCHOOL IS THE WORST I DONT KNOW WHAT KIND OF TEACHERS THEY HAVE BUT IT IS PHYSICALLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR 3 TEST TO MAGICALLY DISSAPPEAR FROM A SEALED ENVELOPE! IT IS RIDICULOUS AND WHEN I CALL ABOUT SHE TELLS ME WE GET THOUSANDS OF TESTS AND IT GOES THRU AT LEAST 4 PPL REALL I COULD CARE LESS IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU NEED TO GET A BETTER SYSTEM I PAY THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS I DONT CARE ABOUT OTHER TESTS YOU GET MY DAUGHTER SHOULDNT HAVE TO KEEP RETAKING TESTS OVER AND OVER! PLEASE LISTEN IF YOU HAVEN'T ENROLLED IN THE SCHOOL STAY AWAY THEY ARE THE ABSOLUTE WORST COMPANY EVER!!!!

Have 2 daughters who graduated from this school, and the Algebra was the only problem we had with the program. It seems their lessons were not even understandable by math professors who tutored them. Now my grandson is in this school, and seems they have modified their math. Over all, this is the best way for home schooled children can get their deploma.

Mimi Marta

iam student my name student grade 4 student loved teach maths iwant coming you school

Jeffrey Hoff

They are horrible and only want your money. They are unresponsive to emails and requests until it is too late to complete the class and then want you to re-enroll and pay. Very disappointed

I was having so many problems in high school so i decided to do homeschooling for my last two years also deciding that i would graduate early and go into the marines as soon as possible. American school was the only accredited homeschooling that the Marines would except. i beleive that their prices are very fair and also the teachers are extraordinary. i get that you miss on on social experiences but when you have trouble with high school because of that this is the right way to go. the only problem i have had so far is i finish my books fast and they had said it was a monthly payment but instead once you get a course done you have to send a payment in with your last exam, also occasionally their grading is a bit on the poky side. But i would say american school has been around this long obviously they are doing something right.

Graduated a year early and it was easier to focus and really understand the material

I quit High School in the 10th grade and 5 long years later I received my Diploma from this School. I used the same books I was using at the High School I left and it took me five years to complete things to suit the School. It was not easy , It was much harder than I ever expected , but I felt that since my parents had paid $350 for all of these books and teachers that were really very good that the very least I could do was complete something I had started for a change. I was 21 and this was 1968. If they are still around they must be doing something right. sincerely, Julie Eddy (at that time)

Emily Limes

So far so good. Courses are easy and understandable. It takes a bit to get your grades. I think that could be because all the students enrolled.

AMERICAN PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOLS ARE A DISASTER!! We have all read the reports and it is now common knowledge. If you are at your wits end regarding the public school system, home- school may be a good choice for you!! So far we have been very pleased with American School. I have made several calls to their office in Lansing, IL and have always received immediate and thoughtful answers to my questions. I am NEVER put on hold and am in contact with a pleasant, courteous human being from the very first minute I am on the phone. The text books are wonderful (especially since her previous public school no longer gives the students text books). Super fast response time regarding "mail-in" exams-personalized messages from her instructors every exam. We have been pleasantly surprised as it is often scary entering "home-school land". My daughter is 15 years old and a sophomore. We chose home school after losing a battle with the public school system to allow her to stay in her school of 11 years after we moved 2 miles away from our previous address. We also were just not pleased with the PUBLIC school system in general. Her classes had 40 kids to 1 teacher. I am amazed at my "new" child. She is less stressed, has more free time and smiles CONSTANTLY--It's as if a huge weight has been lifted off of her. She volunteers 2 afternoons a week for 'Habitat for Humanity' and plays tennis the other days. She plans on finishing earlier than her "public school" peers, will be attending our local community college participating in the "early enrollment program" and then she will transfer to a University here in our state. She is very excited about this and so are we. Thank you American School. This is a great alternative if you live in a county where your public school system is HORRIBLE.
