This school only cares about its appearance rather than the education its self. Half of the teachers are extremely ignorant and don't care about their students. Although this school helps you out for college. Therefore its an okay school.

Horrible place. Teachers are always angry. I felt stressed and under pressure when I was at this school. What they mean by "healthy lunch" is pizza every day. They don't care about their student's health. I think them calling it an "A+++" school is too much. They're nothing close to an A school. Teacher called me a liar (when they were the liar), and I made absolutely no friends. Do not go to this school. Really do not recommend. (Students also do drugs in the bathrooms.)

Ok so the school programs are not bad and the teachers are well trained. My problem is: when do they realized they are wayyyyyy over crowded? If you complain they tell you :"It's your option to be here, you can get out anytime." But I don't think that's the solution. There should be a limit of students per class to properly teach those kids. The school itself is too small to have the capacity of so many students which walk through the hallways like Disneywolrd in the summer. My daughter goes there because we work close by and is convinient but I wish like many other parents we didn't have to feel obligated to put up with this. Either the state makes better public schools all around or the charter schools have a limit of students. They should think about the kids first instead of worrying about how much money they're going to get from the government by being an A school. Otherwise that A+ is going to change pretty soon.

I've been in this school since sixth grade, and I graduate next year. Some teachers may give too much homework, but in the end, it's for the purpose of helping your gpa, and giving extra practice. Yes, this school has given lazy students a hard time, but overall it's a great school. The best clubs to join revolve around Glee, Thespians, and any sports team (my opinion). If you take the time to explore the school and what we are about, you will understand the enforcments on the rules and why they are so strict. Overall, Mater Academy gives you great opportunities. The only way you can fail the school is if you are lazy and decide not to be a student. Besides school work, there is a fair amount of free time. Everything is done on a schedule, and is organized. If I could go back in time, I'd tell myself to focus more. Even though I slacked off, my teachers and peers helped me get back on my feet.

It hasn’t given me as many other student the opportunity to find, a space that gives a message of faith, hope, and love. This school is unsafe. It has a raging drug problem and decides to turn a blind eye to it. It shouldn't be an every day thing to go into the bathroom and see students (both middle school and high school) smoking marijuana or worse. They don't care for the children's safety and push everyone into a small corner towards the front of the school without supervision and say that it's for "safety" when really they are putting children in danger. They discriminate against students for their gender and grades. It is not safe or inclusive. Don't pur your children in this school.

This school has certain problem with their students who are mostly the ones from intensive and regular classes who tend to be annoying, stupid, and disrespectful and have no future ahead of them, however there are kids from intensive and regular classes who tend to be the opposite, but very little of them. There are also some kids who from other countries like Cuba, who have came not so long ago and have called me and my friends stupid gringos , which of course is very disrespectful and is something this school should be aware of. Not only are these some of the things that are terrible about the school but they"re are other things, like how there are teachers who not only don't care about their students but are also advanced teachers who I won't give the name of, overall this school has a lot of problems, but can lead your kids to success as long as they"re not as stupid as the certain kids I have talked about.

The school administration literally stressed out a teacher so much they felt forced to leave due to the disrespect they were receiving. Sometimes it feels like you're in a military camp or something. During middle school lunch a 6th grader threw something in the air. (Middle School jokes). I understand that you're supposed to behave yourself but, how the dean of students treated the situation was not appropriate. He got the microphone and called the kid who threw the paper. Of course the little kid started crying, the dean called him up in front of the whole cafeteria. The dean proceeded to just start screaming at him and telling him that "I DON'T CARE IF YOU CRY," like.. what? This is a school not a boot camp. Also another problem, the counselors. I tried getting into Spanish classes to complete my 2 years of a language class credits for high school. I had done a Spanish class in 7th grade and planning on doing another Spanish class for 8th, but instead they put my in a art class full of 7th and 6th graders. I wasted a full year that I could have been progressing in my education and studies. Outrageous. Finally, the drug problem and the fighting. The school used to be amazing, as I'm told by people that were there before me. I'm not saying that this is school is the only school that has drugs and fighting, but the administration should at least try to do something to get rid of the kids who are the main cause of the problem. There was one week where there was a fight every day. One in the morning and one at lunch. Even some kid got arrested for fighting with a another school. That kid still graduated somehow. I'm pretty sure he didn't even do anything in the classes he attended, I'm surprised he even passed. I'm told he made up some of the work he missed before graduation. Also about the drugs, kids brag about smoking, taking pills, etc. That's the problem within the school and the administration. The teachers are amazing and they deserve better. I hope one day they can escape that hell hole and go to a different school that will appreciate their hard work and dedication to teaching the younger generation. It's embarrassing to see that the younger students have better ideas than the administration. No matter how much we try to tell them that something is wrong or that something should be fixed, it will never be resolved.

The school it's self is not that terrible but there are definitely some teachers who always seem angry or annoyed when teaching their students, I don't know if it's just some of my teachers but a lot of my friends agree. Also, the uniform policy, I understand the rule of no piercings and no hoodie's due to problems in other schools but the color code of the current uniform is just horrible, also keep in mind this is just my opinion so please don't take it personal or anything. On top of all of that, this is my first year in this school, I just began the 6th grade and I'm already so stressed out with the stupid amount of homework. It is way too much, it's like teachers don't understand that we have 8 classes! I have stayed up super late trying to just finish all the homework on time but it is nearly impossible for me to manage to complete it all without missing multiple hours of needed sleep. Besides all of that, the school is okay.

Listen , ive been here since 5th grade i know well my halls and the schools programs i had a wonderful time in 5,6,7, until i entered 8 its a disaster it all got worse . Lunch is a disaster so much kids you have to eat in the floor some manage to squish a spot in the cafeteria but its so crowded you can barely walk. Amazing opportunities im not going to lie but this school only cares about the money that they wont take out students from Ap classes even if students did not pick it because it benefits them .The people not so good but i mean everywhere your going to find bad people in it and good. Some teachers are new because most left of the stress they put on top of teachers to give us extra homework and now im in 9th my first day at freshmen year listen next week im out of this school it all changed so much the grading scale is different and now that homwork is 10% people wont do it and will fail the courses because when you do your work you learn from the classwork and homework but now that it does not value anything people do not pass the test and fail academically, overall if the test is hard and you get a C it drops your grade down in the class more than you think because of its percentage of test . The funny part is they wont stop sending supplies of hw and if your a good student and you wanna pass the class you have to do hw because if you do not then, there is no way you can pass with the testing percent affecting you .One more thing that bothers everyone 'CROWDED' they r too afraid to remove students who are lacking the education from playing around they just entered this year many students that the hallways are packed you can barely walk . IF you enter mater all im going to say is GOOD LUCK because they stress us out an excessive amount and it is not okay for our health and well being.

my experience at Mater Academy is wonderful, some teachers dont teach but all in all i love their ways of teaching, they put fun activities, i also met some of my VERY close friends over at Mater. They need to stop making us wake up at 6 0' clock because our brains do not function at an early time. Over all i love the school.

Good teachers at the highest level, mediocre opportunities and structure. When I attended I was involved in the AP and gifted class sets. Instead of movie cliques, the school is divided between tiers of education: AP, honors, regular, and then ESOL/ESE. When I went here we had no lockers, 30 minute lunches, crammed hallways with five minutes between classes, overly long class sessions (1 hour and 45 minutes), a confusing and problematic A/B day system, and incredibly limited freedom and limited student clubs/organizations. If you wanted to do anything besides go in and out of class, you had to spend time after school. Unfortunately, a 730 am start time led to extremely sleepy days for me and most other teenagers. When I attended the only elective courses were guitar and art and drama. There's no wood shop or cooking or any education for any practical purpose. This is a college prep school through and through. I think charter schools make a good deal of money on AP students; the place felt like a mill at times. Not all of the teachers were great, but those that were were really amazing. Every department has its star player, and this made up for the milquetoast class selection. I don't know why I felt like writing a review for my old high school 8 years after the fact, but after seeing the billboards touting this place as some kind of top tier reward winning school, I feel like what's being ignored is the thing that makes a high school more than just a series of standardized tests: the opportunity to explore, grow and learn in ways that can't be taught by a curriculum. I made some great friends here, but I feel like I could have really benefitted from the ability to actually talk to them for more than 15 minutes a day. Instead, I spent most of my day stewing in a desk chair for 105 minute-long periods. If you want to build your kid into the dutiful little professional you know they can be, then go ahead and drop them off here. But watch out, because they may or may not have the chance to become an actually well-adjusted, well-rounded human being - not with the vice grip this school can put on its student body. Oh, also, the uniform policy sucks. I hate all collared and polo shirts now; don't get me started on navy and khaki.

Very weak! Front office, organization, kids behavior and parents behavior. Honestly, this principal should be running education in all states, he's a miracle worker. To have this school be A+++ rated is by far God's work, blessed be the person running this thing. It only got a second start because there are some people in the school I appreciate, other than that. Weak!

Oh how I remember being in this school for about 5 years. During the years Mater Academy would turn off in specific classes the A.C off unpurpose so they could save electricity. My friends did try to file a complain and it worked. Just for 2 to 3 days that is. They scam people when they get a chance to. On a field day, they said there was going to be bounce houses( this is during 8th grade btw), fun events, water gallons, and so much more. Guess again, with an excited face I rushed into the field and all I see is a P.E field. I asked, where's the field day? They said, there it is, have fun. There was nothing on the field!!! WASTE OF 5 DOLLARS! Some teachers try to complain about the A.C as well but it never works. Is the education good? Yes it is but WAY to stressful. Getting up to 7 HW in one AP class plus the other classes is WAY TO STRESSFUL. I compared this to a regular high school and there was a drastic difference in homework. Btw, once they added an 8th period but guess why? For the people who failed any FSA Math or Reading they had to stay after school everyday up to 3:30 instead of leaving at 2:30 like everyone else. I don't know if that's still a thing there. I gave it a 2 star rating cause the only good thing that school had was a great education in teachers. Almost every teacher there actually spend time with students and actually taught there. I would have rated a 3 but in my opinion, it doesn't deserve it. I haven't been in Mater for a year so I don't know if they've improved during the year in those cases. A.C Most Of all.

So far first impression of some teachers is terrible. My son have been changed scheduled more than 7 times since school started about 5 weeks ago. He is currently sitting in a stool because there is no desk for him in class and one teacher is discriminating him in class. Some teachers do not follow IEP accommodations, don't return emails, give grades for un important assignments, etc. I had higher expectations but I'm very disappointed. In addition I'm scare of the security of the school and the cards passing by in the new street where the new bridge is. Too much traffic, no security, children crossing on any part of the street and throwing them self inf front of the cars... Many other children walking all around blocks where there is no sidewalk just to enter the building thought the bridge they constructed. Poor security...children smoking in the bathrooms with vapors cigarettes. The school is very strict on uniforms, id, supplies...but no one seems to care about been in the bathrooms to oversees all these children and teenagers.

This is the worst school ever. I regret every minute of putting my girls there. About a month ago I put one of my daughters in Saturday school they were supposed to get out at 2 pm. I arrived at 12:50 to pick her up. There wasn’t a soul in that school, the teacher decided to leave early and let 12 yr olds free with out notifying anyone. This happened two weeks in a row. The school like their owners are so worried about the money they make that they keep this from the public eye. Recently my daughters were jumped and beat up badly by a group of students known to have done this before. One of my daughters had notified head of security it was going to happen and nothing was done to protect the students. Everyone got a 10 day suspension. Mr. Carlos Garcia Dean of Discipline replied that my daughters fought back that’s why they got suspended.( they were supposed to sit there and get killed) When all this could of been avoided by simply security doing their job. Parents do not take your kids to this school you will regret every minute of it. Also the drug problem is out of control there and Mr. Garcia’s reply to that when I brought it up was, at least they do it in the bathroom and not out in the open.
