This school has an extremely homophobic principal,, who is a narcissistic bully. And who refuses to accept the fact that kids have the right to express them selves in who they are or in how they identify. For example she refused a boy the right to play football simply because he was gay. She also favors the cheerleading team,, they can wear skirts as short as they like yet no one else can.

I have two younger cousins that go here. They both have reported to me of drug dealers openly dealing in front of admins and nothing has happened to them. The new principal is trying her hardest and has actually came out with the best year the school has had in the recent years, but the hallways smell like weed and fighting is a constant.

If you're thinking about bringing your child here.... Please don't. This school is actual trash fr. Used to get good grades, then I came here ( thanks for lowering my chances at going to a good college Washington high) The teaching style is super old fashion and teachers don't do much to engage students to actually make them excited about school. Its pretty much just " Everything is this class is busy-work, but, here's a review, study it and I'm gonna quiz you on something that wasn't even on the test review" Plus the lunch is horrible 75% of the time.

Have had 3 kids go here, they have many different sport and club programs and the teachers will do a lot to help their kids. Transportation department (buses) also go out of their way to get all children to and from school no matter how close or far they are from school.

I hate this school. There is a lack of PROPER accommodations for certain students and some of their rules interfere with my academic and HOME life. It is an awful place. The only thing good about this high school and/or penitentiary is most of my teachers are very nice. Below I am recommending some excellent teachers if you have a child transferring or graduating there. Excellent Teachers: Mr. Patton - Special Education/Track Coach Mr. Nusbaum - 12th Grade English Mrs. Ober - Art I Mrs. Hallex - 9th Grade Math (Rather strict, but if you behave, she will be your favorite teacher) Mr. Barret - Health/Sex Ed Thanks for reading! PS Do not send your child there if he or she wants to work with computers or technology for a living. They DO NOT tolerate ANY electronics on school grounds. For Parents: If you want you're child to have a easier time there, make sure you get to know Mrs. Marcus (the principal) personally. If she like you and your child, it will barely be a struggle.

I attend this school and it is arguably the worst school in South bend . It smells like weed in all the highways. And you can't pass the hallway withought hearing cussing. The teachers are horrible and let you do whatever you want. I am in 4 hour rn on my phone. And the teacher doesn't say nothing. I think washigton needs a better control of the students. Me and my friends always skip through the front door and come back multiple times. Please send your kids to a different school

My current opinion of this school is it is well organized, informative and a good learning environment. The rules are expected to be followed and the students are held accountable for ther actions. I believe in structure and communication and that is what I have experienced .

I have worked at WHS since it opened. I, too, transferred from the other JCS high school and even still today know it was the best decision for me. This school is administered by faculty and staff to promote student education, to prepare them for the "real world." The public school system is to provide education, not a social time; therefore, it's only appropriate that there is a "turn off your electronic devices" rule in place once the school day begins. There are many employers that have this same policy as well as a dress code. They're here to learn not socialize or make a fashion statement. If students do not learn the simple rules of life, they will have a difficult time of adjusting when they graduate and catapult into working for a living. Graduation rate at WHS is 95%

Ok. The front office staff were very kind and helpful. That is the only positive thing I can say. Bullying is a serious problem. You meet with staff and they promise you all kinds of help....right! Army needs to take that place over.

Washington's diversity is part of the strength of the school. Most AP classes in the area. Strong club structure; many opportunities for students to become involved. AP classes are not simply beefed up high school classes, but are taught at a college level. Least amount of drugs and arrests of any public school in the area.

My daughter came from Whittier Middle School, where she wasn't doing well with school at all. Once she entered 9th grade, everything turned around for her. Her grade point average was 3.5 and went up from there. Suzi would lift weights in the gym after school with the big guys (she is 5'2" and 102 lb). She was not intimidated at all. She gained confidence and joined gymnastics and other clubs. She started to volunteer outside of school. She even got the President's Volunteer Service Award. The WHS faculty and staff support their kids and treat them all like WHS family. There are semester award ceremonies for the kids with GPA's of 3.5 to 4.0. There are so many kids who receive these awards. It is a wonderful school with a top notch education.

Ok so this is John Gaul and i go to Washington high um so I personally think and some others think we need to do a better job with this school because this school is tripping i mean you treat the athletes and stuff like that good but the eighth grade is treated unfairly we should be treated better then this and I really don't think y'all care at all y'all should do a way better job and help the kids that are bad and need help don't put them down but yea this school needs to be better i cant wait till i leave this school for real y'all is very unorganized and nasty and unfair but do better then what y'all are doing seriously y'all make us look bad
