I Graduated from Decatur High School in 1993. It was a pretty great high school, I just didn't realize it at the time...probably wouldn't have admitted so if I had(back then). It's just a normal, everyday small town experience that I can now look back and remember fondly. Being a smaller town school, of course it could've probably used a few improvements in certain areas, but I've hear it's not lacking for much these days.
They've always had a great sports program for tennis, football, track, basketball, baseball, volleyball, etc. And their coaches really get involved with their students/players lives. Ogle Stadium is the name of Decatur High's football field and it is pretty standard type feild, nothing really fancy. The field house/gym was built when I attended school there, and is a really nice facility.
They have Great debate teams and leaders, nice clubs for extra curricular activities and they really encourage artistic talents too. The band is 1st class and chorus/choir and drama club always has been as well.
Towards the end of my time there, they remodeled most of the school, mostly on the outside and several areas on the inside as well.
It has been 23 years and once again it is time for change at Decatur High...Now, they are rebuilding the entire school! And it is turning out to be sensational. I hear that all programs implemented are the newest and that they really have a fine set of teachers as well. It is a blessing that there never has been any real hardcore "drama", like what goes on in bigger city schools. Decatur High is just a well rounded, typical small town high school that thankfully our town seems to care a great deal for and are always trying to improve.
