This was the second time I've stopped here for food and drinks and both times the service was excellent. Very friendly waitress who brought us refills of soda without ever needing to be asked and even before the glass was empty. The food is classic bar food...burgers and sandwiches and done perfect. The atmosphere is exactly what you want, with several TV's with sports and movies and the clientele of regulars and others was a perfect mix to make everyone feel welcome and appreciated. We would definitely stop again!!

Have gone for lunch; very friendly owner/staff. Excellent burgers. Been there multiple times and never had (or heard of) a bad burger. Whether you like rare or well done, they come back great. My go-to is the Varsity burger topped with bacon and onion rings (haystack style) with a tasty Varsity sauce as well. The burgers are not for the diet conscious, but they do have some other menu options.

A good bar with decent liquor choices at cheap prices! They boast 2 pool tables and a couple dart boards as well. The restrooms were clean and up kept. Parking was a breeze as a lot was directly connected so no worries about parking on the street! The owner is also quite friendly!

The food was good and they have a decent drink selection. We liked the atmosphere too! The place is clean and well taken care of. I gave three stars because the bar tender I had didn't seem to really relate to people well. He was very cold, short with his words, unfriendly and just seemed off. It was uncomfortable.

I've only been here this one time but would be hard pressed to go back, at least on a Thursday or Saturday. It's karaoke night those days and it's so loud you can't even talk to the person next to you. We had to yell to each other and even then weren't sure what was being said.

Stopped in for the Friday night fish fry special and enjoyed a good meal. The deep fried cod was excellent with a satisfying coating that was neither too crunchy nor too soft but just right. The accompanying tartar sauce was good too. We had the potato wedges and we agreed they were perfect, some of the best I've had. The price is very reasonable and they were quite busy but we had good, fast service. A very good dining experience, I hope you give it a try too.

I've been here 3x and I am disappointed every time. The management is terrible. What type of management would allow people to sing karaoke during prime time NFL games? Bad management. This bar is giving off the vibe of a sportsbar. Well if you want to hear someone butcher the song of AC/DC or other artists while you're trying to watch a game, than this is the perfect bar for you.

The staff is extremely friendly and responsive, and with large screen tvs throughout and a wide array of activities--karaoke, trivia, etc.--depending on the day, there are numerous ways to enjoy yourself aside from just having a drink. Response: either you can’t tell time or you are severely under playing your time stamp. OH and you forgot to mention in your long response you gave me my tab. No I had to hunt you down at a table and hand you my card. Where you didn’t even look up at me or acknowledge I handed you my card. This was not an isolated incident this has happened multiple times. Good luck with your regular patrons hopefully they keep the doors open for you. On May 9, 2019 I still received worst service in the entire MADISON area. I kept giving it one more chance. Today is the day I vow to never step foot in your door again. Good luck with your bar. ***Do yourself a favor want better service and food? Drive to Monks. If you want a pool table and better service go to the bar called The Rock basically a block away from this place. You’re welcome.

Neat, clean a very good sports bar. I ordered a burger medium-rare done and it was perfect. Just to update, since 9 mo. Ago we have now moved to Sun Prairie and this bar is the very best in town. The food is very good, the drinks and every thing else is the best. In 9 mo. Never been dissatisfied or sorry to be at the VARSITY

Went for the Packers/Cowboys game. The food was good and the atmosphere was fun but management did not staff appropriately. The bar was packed completely full and they only had 1 waitress and 1 cook on staff!!! These poor people were going as hard as they possibly could and they were great. The waitress was very friendly and the cook would run out whenever he could to help things along.

Family walked down today on 4th of July. The fact they were open was awesome and the bartender was crushing it serving their patio, dining room and bar. He even changed one of their many televisions to a kids show for my son. Great customer service yummy cheese fries. Seriously good form.

The owner reached out and asked what they could do better - get a bartender that's attentive to everyone and not just the guys at the bar she's trying to flirt with. We sat without drinks, and had to flag down someone else from the floor to help us out... not super cool when you're sitting 2 feet in front of someone and getting ignored. Not the first time I've had poor service here in general, but especially when she's working and sounds like others have complained/noticed it as well.

I stopped in with a friend to have a drink a few days back. There was a younger gal bartending alone. I ordered a double shot of a specific top shelf whiskey. I picked up the glass and took a pretty healthy drink of something I did not order. I about threw up. She dumped it out and poured my original order. Within the next 20 minutes she managed to squirt some unknown liquid into my eye and all over my top ruining it completely.

The fish fry is very good, but the atmosphere leaves much to be desired. EDIT: I don't know how to reply to a reply, so I'm editing my review. Your food was top notch, but the atmosphere didn't match the food quality. Upping the quality of the tables and chairs and seating area would be great. Having a host to seat you would be nice. Additonally, there are not many soft surfaces in the establishment, making it louder than I would have preferred. We had a group of 7 and I found it difficult to hear the other side of the table. The server we had was fantastic, might I add.

A great place for lunch, even with a group. We often visit with about 6 in our group. My fav is the chicken parmesan sandwich, but if you want something with a bit more zing, the Varsity Burger is mighty tasty as well. They also have all-beef hot dogs that are some of the best around. During chili season, request a chili-dog, and don't forget the cheese and onions!
