Recently had my wedding here at the Mill and was beyond amazed at the whole event. Nancy was helpful and communicative throughout the whole process, doing everything she could for us. The value of the venue was amazing, and it was perfect for the amount of people we had invited. Nancy was able to cater to guests with specific dietary needs and made that aspect blend seamlessly into the rest of the menu. She was so accomodating, and even gave us a delicious cheesecake to use for our cake-cutting ceremony! Virginia, the lovely lady who prepared the food for the event, did an amazing job,and everyone raved about how good it was! The serving staff did a marvelous job of keeping my guests happy, and helped make the day perfect! We have eaten here as restaurant guests, and while regular meals were a bit of a wait, the food had always been worth it. The brunch buffet was amazing and we will definitely return again for special occasions!

Always delicious with an ambiance you just won't find anywhere else! Our most recent visit was on a Friday. The staff were all attentive and helpful. Our waitress was funny and genuine! We had the beer battered cod, tasty and a chunky, flavorful batter with flaky cod. But, before that, our dinner bread ball...whole wheat with some rye and caraway seeds, melted in your mouth! Our waitress said she'd made it that morning! We finished with a huge delicious apple dumpling for dessert. Another wonderful meal at the Old Feed Mill! The attached picture is from the men's restroom. OFM has a sense of humor as have many past customers!!

First time there was amazing! Stopped again recently and was told an hour wait for a table because no reservations - yet there were many unfilled tables at the time. Hostess also had a half eaten sandwich sitting at reservation desk - my husband noticed that and thought very tacky. Guess the place we thought could become our favorite for weekend travels to WI just isn't going to be. Don't just walk in no matter how few cars in the parking lot - drive by and find a more welcoming restaurant.

Great stop for dinner after catching a plat at American Players Theatre. Started with fresh baked bread, tasty. Followed by wild greens salad. Had the pot roast, which was fork-tender and delicious. Apparently, the stuffed pepper was good, too. The decor was cool, building kept up and interesting, and staff was quick and accommodating. Excellent choice. Get reservations for eating after six, especially after a play.

We were there for a banquet. The food was good. The room was cold at times. Noise from other areas interfered with our speaker.

Linda Lovelace

Wish you could have kept the old lunch menu. Even raising the price would be better than new menu. Too bad.

Jennifer Stephens

Old fashion are wonderful. Bring an empty tummy plan on taking a box home food is to die for. The mac and cheese is three cheese awesome the pot roast is fork tender and the meat loaf made w pork sausage goes down smooth. Leave room for a grass hopper Make memories take the adventure!!!

jenninowak

The atmosphere here is wonderful. Food is good. There's even a little shop worth checking out before or after you eat.

Johnny Mnemonic

Good memories :)

Derric Hudson

Food was good, with hearty portions. It was just a little noisy

Camilla O'Brien

Service was great. Had the Easter brunch. Left a bit to be desired. The french toast was a bit hard. There wasnt anything that invoked a desire to go back for "seconds". The deserts and pastrys were scant. Had a hard time cutting a brownie. Needed a knife. For the price, we should have left feeling satisfied.

Jennifer Broberg

Easter brunch was wonderful! While they were busy, staff was attentive and pleasant. Loved the egg casserole and the sliced beef!

Debby Cain

Beautiful quaint restaurant with a great menu

Peter Snyder

Happened upon this place a bit by chance. We took a scenic drive and decided to look for a place in Mazomanie. It's not inexpensive dining, but it was very good. The homemade bread, the meatloaf, pot roast for my wife, garlic smashed potatoes, and vegetables were all delicious. The veggies were tender crisp, just the way I think they should be. We'll return and try other offerings and maybe dessert. The atmosphere was really enjoyable, too. And there's a bar and a gift shop. Saw families with small kids. Seems they had been there before, so family friendly would be another way to describe this place. Wait staff was very friendly and attentive. Just a very good experience.

Beautiful setting and wonderful drive from Madison. Called to see what time they were open and was told 11am. We were just driving throughout town so pulled in about 11:05. Walked in there was no one around. Waited , called out... we went to the gift shop an looked around. We were there 20 min and still no staff. We started opening doors and calling out. There was a purse and a cellphone charging on the counter? Finally I walked into the kitchen and called out. Two women appeared and acted surprised we were there. I explained there was no one around. By this time we had been there almost 25 minutes. Thank goodness we are honest we could have done some damage. We were seated by the kitchen staff who apologized saying she was new and making coleslaw. Was told the front manager had been in the basement...Asked what the special of the day was and was told it had not been decided. Ordered the grilled cheese and tomato sandwich. It was very good but the cheese was cold and not melted. The meat loaf sandwich was flavorful but very soft and mushy.

Friday night fish fry is great and well priced at around $14. My wife and I both had 2 Old Fashioned. They were good, but not worth the $8 dollar price tag each though. Way over priced as two drinks each cost more than our entire meal. Would recommend doing quite a price update as many other locations we’ve went to for fish are much more reasonable priced. Overall great food though.

Colette Stivarius

Love the Sunday brunch!

Marsha Jones

Excellent food! Never disappointed!

Bruce Bancroft

Very historic building 1857 four mill repurposed as a restaurant. Found it by accident, stopped for Sunday brunch on my way through Mazomanie. Great buffet, service and friendly people. I will make a point of stopping there again

I currently worked as a dishwasher here, yes the food is great but the management is not, you may think everything is OK but that's because you guys don't see what's going on behind the scenes. They have a bad rep around town at least that's what i have heard. For all of you had a bad experience I m personally srry we run on very few chefs and I was in the middle of training when I got fired just because I wanted food after hours that I was willing to pay for. But yea have fun eating your food with one cook and no dishwasher

We have gone to Old Feed Mill a few times in the past, and always left happy. I have even recommended it to friends. However, when we went yesterday we stood in an empty lobby waiting for a hostess for probably close to ten minutes. A flustered woman did rush thru at one point and said she would be back. Eventually she returned. Instead of apologizing for the delay or trying to make us feel welcome, she almost seemed to be discouraging us from staying. She told us the dining room was really busy (the parking lot had a decent number of cars, but the place wasn't packed by any means) and we would be waiting awhile. Since we had driven about a half hour to get there, I asked how long. She said it would be ten minutes before a server would be able to ask what drinks we wanted. That sounded reasonable. We told her we would wait on the porch for a bit (because we had young children along.) After we were waiting outside for awhile, two women exited the building. I asked about their experience inside. They told me that they had waited at their table for fifteen minutes without being helped at all...no water or anything. We decided to leave at that point. We have a voucher that we bought from a half off site. I would like to use it, but fear driving that distance for nothing again. We will probably give it one more try though. I sincerely hope it doesn't disappoint again...I want this place to stick around. Please get it together :) (Rating 3 because other experiences there have been good.)

Anna Morton

Very interesting place for meals.

Brent Lemaster

Good food and great music..

Cole

Nice little antique type place, with friendly staff and a large dining area upstairs.

Autumn Leonard

Service was so slow we had to leave before food came to catch a show. Over an hour of waiting with multiple promises of "it's on its way", and no offer of discount once we said we needed to go.

David Domabyl

Very casual atmosphere, great food.

Rick Mueller

Wonderful brunch buffet and outdoor seating on the porch. Loved it.

Lee Ann Dillman

The food was good. Only one server for Saturday lunch who was also cashier. The setting was very interesting. Cost was reasonable, less than $50 for 3 lunches + dessert. Probably not a choice I'd make again.

Abbie Kelley

Excellent food and friendly service! Came for dinner and had shrimp and the red snapper special with a local wine. All was very good. Cute, homey, vintage and clean.

I was so looking forward to celebrating my 60th birthday AND Mother's Day with brunch at the Old Feed Mill. Unfortunately, management demonstrated abysmally poor judgement with customer service by allowing another customer (a regular) to insist that we be moved from "his" table, after we had already settled in to (water, coffee, greeting by wait staff and already in line at the buffet). Apparently we were meant to sit at the other table since this couple who are regulars apparently sit at "our" table every Sunday. While I appreciate that a mistake was made in seating us, this should have been handled very differently. So while standing in line waiting to get my food, a woman came to me, held my hands in hers (without so much as an introduction-I still don't know who she was) and "sweetly" explained the situation. I was befuddled as she led me back to the table, empty plate in my hand, and told the man that this "kind lady offered to switch tables". Now I've figured out I've been played, so I simply stated, "I didn't offer, I was asked." To which I received superficial thanks from the elderly couple while wait staff fumbled with moving all of our items, personal and otherwise, from one table over to another table no more than 3 feet away. Meanwhile, my husband arrives with a full plate of food, confused and wondering what the heck is going on. I want the restaurant to understand the irony and ultimate messaging of this situation. On a day when we celebrate and appreciate the selflessness that is mothering, I was made to feel "less than" this man. Management's actions said that our customer loyalty meant nothing (we won't be back). That this man and his partner were more important to please at that moment than us.That owning your mistake and asking the other customer to bear the consequence by not sitting exactly where they are used to, was not even an option, was a poor business decision. Why not comp half their meal and offer them profuse apologies? While they did give us a gift card for $15 for "today or your next visit!", (ha!) the messaging they gave was just plain wrong. Part of this is timing--had we not yet started our meal, it wouldn't have been a big deal, But to pull us from the food line, well that's just plain rude, insulting and disrespectful. And shame on you, old man, you are a bully who I am guessing has been getting away with this sort of arrogance for a very long time.

My wife and I have been going to the Old Feed Mill for 19 years. We actually had our wedding rehearsal dinner there. The food has been good for the most part. The cheese curds are really good 4.5 stars. The steaks are average 2.5 stars. The fish fry is good 3.5 stars. The wait staff is always super friendly and kind, and there is plenty of seating. Their Sunday Brunch Buffet is really good 4.5 stars. Lots of food, including good desert. There are also gluten free options on the Brunch Buffet. I would say this, that anything you get there that is fried is going to taste the same as anything else that is fried. I think the fry batter could use some improvement. You get tired of it after 2 or 3 times.

Randy Luher

Great food and great people!

Donald Mccarthy

Last night we took a group of 34 people for dinner. We made reservations before, so it was not a surprise that we were coming . The reservations were made for 4:30 for cocktails & dinner at 5:30. With only one bartender he did a fairly good job. We were seated at 5:30 right on time, but; they were not ready. Salads and bread were not on the table. She took drink orders then came to take food orders. Food started coming 11/2 hour later. The last one to be served was me & that was over 2 hours. The only couple that ate together was a couple that split there steak. Food was good, but not hot by any means. Management was absent. The waitress did the best job she could do alone. 34 people who spent about $2000.00 dollars. Will not return.

Cassandra Berg

This place is unique. The fact they kept the old Mill feel is pretty badass. The food..tasty as all get out. I don't know what kind of magic they put in the mushroom strudel, but it is absolutely fantastic! Ive been eating here for years and never been dissapointed. The staff is always so friendly.

Carl Gilmore

Excellent decor in an old feed mill building. Food was great. Very much enjoyed it. Our second time there. Would go back more more often except for the two hour drive for us. For a special occasion it is worth it!

Mary Norton

We go real often for the holiday brunches. Always love our experience. The food is old fashioned-homemade. Even their deserts are homemade. Went this Easter and as usual delicious. Our waitress was very attentive and pleasant. We always make reservations well in advance as they serve hundreds. Our favorite food item on the buffet is the fab mushroom strudel. Only 1 afterthought--good cookies, bars and cheesecake bites but missed not having cake or pies this time. We'll be back for sure and perhaps come for their regular dinner sometime.

Lauri Drager

The fish fry was not the best but not the worst either. Service was great

While we can say the food was very good. The shrimp stuffed with crab was very nice, although it appeared the crab was lacking in the stuffing. The rice pilaf was excellent & the vegetables were cook appropriately. One of the dinners was happy his filet-mignon. The other two diners had mushroom pot pie from the lighter menus. It was an ample serving. The apple dumpling was excellent. Having said all that, the service was very unacceptable. We waited 20 minutes before anyone approached our table and that was to tell us that there would be a delay because of some billing problem. We needed to stop other servers to ask for water and bread. After another 15 minutes our drink orders were taken. Then another 15 or so minutes finally our dinner orders were taken. It took another 20 minutes to get our food. What was rather upsetting was our waitperson (Lynn) never came to the table to see how we were doing. When the salads came the order was messed up and only one of us got the correct salad the first time. All the while we were eating, never did wth waitperson come to check how things were "tasting" After the dinner, one of the diners asked for his steak & dessert to be boxed. When the check came he had to remind the waitperson for the boxes. She seemed to have forgotten. We had been to a performance of The American Players Theatre ( APT) in Spring Green, WI. The Old Feed Mill Restaurant advertises an up to $3.25 discount per ticket presented after a play. We presented 2 ticket stubs for a $ 6.50 discount on our meals, but lo and behold we did not get the discount. Having been in the restaurant for 3 hours we just paid the bill. By the way, the restaurant is VERY noisy. We had a hard time hearing fellow diners just across the table from us. We would classify this restaurant, because of the very noise level, as an eating restaurant rather than a dining restaurant. Probably the worst service ever experienced in a restaurant!

Jai Haack

Great place. Good family food.

Excellent meal in a lovely restaurant. We ate prior to a play at American Players Theatre. Sometimes the service has been slow. This time there was flooding in the area, so maybe fewer people. Food excellent and imaginative, service and setting fabulous.

My husband and I booked the Old Feed Mill to host our reception after our wedding and it was absolutely incredible. The food was amazing and the space was beautiful. We received SO many compliments on both! Nancy worked so hard over the past 8+ months making sure everything was perfect for us. She was quick to respond and always helpful and kind. The staff was amazing as well, so attentive and thoughtful. Our guests were so amazed by the whole experience. Nancy made sure everything was ready for us and that we could set up early. During the reception everything flowed so smoothly and we are just so thankful we chose the Old Feed Mill. I would absolutely recommend everyone to go there, even if it is just for dinner. It is truly such a gem.

Historic Wisconsin Gem! I absolutely mean it! This was a stumbled upon place, as I was passing through on my way home from camping. It was 2pm on a Sunday, and most places to eat in the area closed at 2; Old Feed Mill had brunch until 2:30! I couldn't be more pleased with this stop! As I pulled into the parking lot, the visual appearance of a brick building and the nostalgia of a building with history were exciting. The railroad line close by and the growth of vegetation on the outside of the establishment gave charm and character to this restaurant; when we entered, I saw a nice bar area with an area to the right and left. I could also see a loft above, and old wood beams that let higher into the building. The sun came through the upper windows and really lit the upstairs. The whole inside of he business front was lined with beautiful flower bouquets. There was also a cute shop to the left down the hall. All of the cabinetry was wooden with hand shaped glass, and the hallway had information regarding the history of the building. There were also old machines on display. These type of items are certainly museum quality, with the display to accompany. There were also handcrafted quilts hung and draped around the inside furnishing, which accented the wooden beams and plaster of the beautiful interior. To the right was an entry into a room that opened up into a banquet area with very nice wooden tables. Everyone of the staff was very prompt and happy to be serving us. There was plenty of room to eat without being right next to anyone; and there was plenty of room to move around tables. The vaulted ceiling made for a private table conversation. There was also an old couple that are regulars who said they come a few times a week; I do not doubt that, since my experience was wonderful. Sunday's are brunch, which is an all you can eat style buffet! NOT LIKE A BUFFET HOUSE, NOT EVEN CLOSE to cramped, overpopulated or old food stigmas. They have regular dining hours, but do a special buffet for Sunday's; I can't attest to the regular menu style dining, but THE FOOD WAS ALL WONDERFUL!!!! The napkins were cloth and fit the theme, and the tables had nice silverware as well! I had no problem with the selection or service! My cup was always full, and there was a help yourself buffet with a few types of juice. I ate French toast, salad, coleslaw, macaroni and cheese, breakfast potatoes, sliced deli style bread, eggs, and mixed steamed vegetables. Yes, I got my fill! Every bit of it was wonderful! I had nothing left, and there wasn't anything I tried that I set aside! I also had some pomegranate juice from a carafe, which was delicious as well! My girlfriend had chocolate milk, and a lot of the same food as me. She also had bacon, but also had the option of sausage, fish, chicken and some other meat mixed dishes in the area. Every plate looked fresh and was free of mess or dirty appearing dishes. No awkward looking foods or empty trays. As I was finishing my meal and exiting the building, one of the ladies spoke to me about the building history. She allowed me to check out the upstairs banquet hall, which was being prepared for an event the same evening. As I went up the stairs, I saw the craftsmanship of the building throughout the levels. The upper room was being set with table clothes and nice silverware! The upper level ceiling was also vaulted, and had a couple of ceiling fans with inconspicuous air vents designed into the theme of the building. I could see another room down the hall, lit up by the big windows, but I made my way back downstairs to head home. I didn't buy anything from the shop, but they are charming items such as crafty signs, quilts and candles. The restroom had No gross smells or messes laying around. I was pleased with all of that as well. I stepped out onto a covered deck, old style with wagon wheel decoration and the same charm as the rest of the building. I also saw a cool old car in the parking lot. I would HIGHLY recommend this place, even for the nostalgia alone! I already recommended it to my mother!

Food was good and staff was friendly but I expected more for the price.

Robbie Webber

Great food in a converted feed mill. Beautiful old building and very nice, friendly, helpful staff. I have only been there twice -- once for Thanksgiving and once for brunch -- and both times were buffet-style. But the food was fantastic and the options were very diverse. Really amazing home-cooking that is far from the usual boring buffets. The veggies are flavorful, the meats are well-seasoned, the sides are just amazing, and the salad/fruit/cold options go above and beyond. But be sure to save room for desert, because the pies, cakes, bread pudding, cookies, and other sweets are not to be missed.

Edward Feest

Great comfort food. Nice atmosphere.

Delicious food, great staff with attentive service, wonderful ambiance.....

Christopher Morkri

I was here on Mother’s Day with my family for a late brunch buffet. The restaurant offered classic, traditional fare, pretty good for the most part. The service was not so good. I haven’t eaten at a buffet in years, and this was my first visit to this restaurant. So I was expecting a little help from the server, like maybe she could start by offering us water, juice, coffee, drinks, telling us about the various buffet stations, that sort of thing. She didn’t tell us offer us anything, and made no recommendations, just told us we could go get a plate and help ourselves. We didn’t find out there was a dessert station until after we paid the check. The drinks we ordered from the bar were completely devoid of spirits, which is fine if you want a kiddie cocktail. We did manage to get coffee, and while we were sitting there not enjoying the dessert we didn't know they had, other employees come over to clear our table. My wife leans over and says “I think they want us out of here.” Yeah, it was busy, I get it, but overall it was a disappointing experience and we paid for service, drinks and food we expected but didn’t really get.

I went here for the first time after hearing good things about it. I made a special trip to mazomanie from east madison. I loved it! Our waitress was fantastic and super cool. The restaurant was super cute and antique like. Very unique designs in there it was like stepping back in time. And the food was incredibly good. I'll have lots of leftovers. I loved everything about this place. I'll definitely be back. Really appreciate that they were so nice to me.

Andrew Brantmeyer

Other than being a little PRICY Brunch was Good.

Elisabeth Hying

When we arrived at the restaurant there was no one around to seat us. We found some menus and seated ourselves. We ordered drinks bit it took a while for them to come. We then waited 30 min for our food. My companion s meatloaf was a child portion and my medium rare hamburger was burned. When we walked in we could hear the cook saying she was already far behind in order . My hamburger was replaced with an edible one and we were compensated in the bill. We were told told there was a wedding that day and that's why things were messed up. I feel sorry for the wedding party. Will not go again.

Paul Taylor

Very stale bread, steak was poor quality and not cooked to order. The food doesn't taste the quality of the listed prices. Service was friendly, however.

Interesting menu, maybe too heavy on gravy.

Awesome meal. Great home cooking, lots of great meats and fish. Delicious appetizers and a decent beer selection for a restaurant this far out of town. Kind and attentive service and a comfortable homey atmosphere for eating.

Excellent from start to finish! Such a cool ambiance as well.

My wife and I stopped here after a weekend long canoe trip on the lower Wisconsin river. What a great place to eat at, the food was great and the building was really cool too! If your looking for a family owned, role up your sleeves and put your heart and soul into type of supper club. This is it!

Byrne Chapman

The food was really good. Unfortuantely, the host was rather rude that night. Her rudeness set a bad tone for the meal.

The osso buca was amazing!

Don't come unless you're dressed up and have a reservation, otherwise you'll get funny looks and glares from the employees and patrons. Horrible first experience. I was expecting more since we are current residents in this town.

I love the Old Feed Mill. We discovered it when we moved to the area and always like to go there for small celebrations. The food is always expertly prepared and the atmosphere is cozy in winter and breezy in the summer. The last time we went the service was a little lacking as far as refreshing water and bringing the bill but usually we cannot complain and will certainly visit this casual but delicious hidden gem again.

Our experience was mixed to say the least. I would have given one star were it not for the very nice server and the fact that they comped part of my meal. After waiting far too long for our food, our three entrees finally arrived. Two of the three looked good. My medium ribeye (which I strongly doubt was actually a ribeye-it had the texture of skirt steak) was rare at best so the server offerer to take it back. It was returned and was somewhat past well done. I was in a hurry to get to a show so sawed the puck of meat into bite sized bits and got out. The venue is unique but really could use some attention. The building is old and beautiful but the interior could use some cleaning/straightening. The food was really the disappointing aspect for me. I would expect a restaurant in somewhat rural Wisconsin that charges $32 for a ribeye to be able to cook it properly. My friends had the pork loin (over cooked) and the chicken pot pie (more like soup in bread bowl) that they enjoyed so perhaps my situation was a one off. Some small things could really improve the experience such as: better cuts of meat, training for the kitchen, an annotated menu and freshly printed drink menus. It was such a disappointment though as I've always wanted to go to the Old Feed Mill. It just looks like I won't be going back.

This will be our last time we bother with this restaurant. While the food is good, but pricey, the service is terrible. We'd have been five times, this time we learned our lesson. The service will never improve. It is always slow. We almost left tonight while waiting. A family that was seated ahead of us still did not have food after we paid out. There always is an excuse for why the kitchen is behind. I'm not buying it anymore.
