I’m so glad I went here despite the negative reviews. Seems like they’re a fairly new restaurant and just needed some time to get their staffing situated. For what it’s worth, I had amazing service, from the owner to the GM and down to the wait staff. The food here is amazing. Absolutely get the Korean Fried Chicken wings and, if you’re looking for something new and interesting to try, get the Teokpokkee. It’s not like traditional teokpokkee at all, but it was a lovely twist on the dish and it was phenomenal. I also tried the soondubu, which is always a staple for me in korean restaurants, and it was great. Probably the best soondubu in town. Overall, this place isn’t the place for traditional korean food, but if you’re looking for some good, creative, fusion dishes then definitely give this place a shot. I’ll definitely be going back!

This food was delicious. I don't think I've ever had Korean food before, but I enjoyed Mr. Kimchi so much that I want to find more places. I got the kimchi fries and the pork bibimbop. The kimchi fries toppings we're good, but the fries themselves left a lot to be desired. They were soggy and soaked in oil. Fix that and I'll definitely give a five star review. The pork bibimbop was very tasty, like a better version of something I'd make for myself at home. I liked all the ingredients and the owner came over to show me that it tastes even better if you mix it all together. He was right. When we went, they said they had 55 reservations for the night and asked if it was okay to seat us at the kitchen counter so they didn't need to turn us away. I think they had read the reviews on Google and we're working to fix things. Same think with the automatic 18% gratuity, they highlighted the receipt with it. However, I would have tipped more had they not added that on. All in all, it was a great meal and I think we'll be back soon.

No one will seat you until you ask. Wait for ages to be served. Take off your plates without asking. Expensive with mandatory tips. Will not come back.

Loved the modern take on Korean especially all the fresh veggies so that nothing felt too heavy. Big fan of the KFC, purple rice and cast iron for the crispy rice in the bibambap bowl. Even better was the great service, which seems like such a rarity even at higher end restaurants. We will be back!

Took me back to when I was 18 in Seoul. Anytime a meal sparks a connection it is well worth it. Thank you.

This is the best authentic Korean restaurant in Madison or possibly the Midwest.

Went for a last minute business lunch and had their Bibimbap and Japachae noodle with tofu. Both were really good, all though the Bibimbap could use a little bit more flavor... Don't ask me exactly what as I'm not a pro. The lightly breaded tofu were a great touch. Btw their fresh Ginger tea was perfect on a cold day like today!

New place in the old Moromoto location. Tried the beef noodle bowl, kimchi sampler, and the steak lettuce wraps. All were excellent and would be ordered again on future visits. Wraps could easily feed two, so don't let the price scare you off.

Don’t get the pork belly it’s chewy and squishy but the spicy pork is good.

Jonathan Nikoleyczik

Had a great experience. The food was great and similar to the quality of Korean BBQ we get in Chicago. The service was fast and they were very welcoming to our many questions about the menu. There are still a few kinks to be worked out since they just opened recently, but those come with experience and time.

I really liked this place. The food was amazing. We ordered the BBQ pork belly, bulgogi bibim nap, and Korean fried chicken wings. It was more than enough for two adults and two kids. The wait staff was very attentive and helpful in figuring stuff out and the food was amazing. There was so several other menu items that looked interesting for future trips. Not a ton of options for kids on the menu, but my kids are pretty adventurous eaters, so they were okay. It's a bit pricey, but not out of line for downtown. We'll definitely go back.

Fabulous mango cocktail! Spicy, fresh and fun Kimchi trio appetizer, and my husband had the tuna and wild salmon bibimbap which had such a variety of flavors and it was sooo fresh!!! Really excellent! I would highly recommend!

A fancy and modern take on Korean food. It was a bit unexpected and more expensive than anticipated.

Food. Was. Amazing. Rice bowl with purple rice, and soup - can’t go wrong. So much flavor. Food was ready so quickly too. Service was great, our waiter was very attentive ! I plan to bring my friends back there. “the best Korean food in town”.

It seems the restaurant is not ready for the big crowd on Valentine’s Day! Come here because it is promoted on social media but disappointed by its service. Give a star because it messed up this important day

Amazing food. Service was timely and everything tasked great. The spicy ahi tuna bibimbap was delicious. Definitely looking forward to eating everything else.

Great Korean restaurant. This place is more of a modern Korean feel to it. Really enjoyed the atmosphere. I went for lunch and it wasn't too crowded. They had a great lunch menu. I opted for the spicy pork belly lunch box with purple rice. I definitely recommend it. The staff was very friendly and attentive. I will definitely be back.

Sally Wu

Modern take on Korean food. The menu does not specify necessarily spicy items. My steak bibimbop was surprising with things like kale and a beet. It tasted like poke to me, and not a hearty warm dish

Zhao Zhongqian

Tip is including in the bill and never tell you

I love Tteok-Bokki and Kimchi Pancakes. I called to do a take out at Mr Kimchi and asked for both. I had a English speaking staff, Laura who clearly was not Korean. She asked me what I wanted and I said Kimchi Pancakes and guess what I got Pa Jeon not Kimchi Jeon. I specifically asked her Kimchi like twice. Very disappointed as I am adopted Korean and I love Kimchi pancakes! I can’t eat seafood. Cute place but I’m so disappointed was craving kimchi!

Zongyu Chen

The worst experience in Korean Restaurant. The chief is a lier. We ask chief our food after half hours we ate pork belly and have one of my friend’s plate. We heard server told chief that he hand our food to a wrong table, but chief told us they have never put our request to computer, then they don’t know what we ordered. The most important thing is, not taste good.

Solid Korean food in a clean restaurant with good decor. The price is on the higher end and the quality of the food matches the price. The taste profile is milder than the other Korean restaurants in Madison.

Delicious food! Our server Uni(or Yooni?) was amazing and very attentive. I would highly recommend the restaurant for those who are familiar with Korean cuisine and those who are not.

Dakota Chambers

Appetizers/small plates are great, especially with the happy hour discount. Probably better than our main course. Bibimbap was just fine...nothing amazing. The beef bulgogi was good.

Odysseas

Great food! Very enjoyable. We had the pork and the salmon bibimbaps. Both great. Kimchi and beef tacos were both also good. Nice meal. Good service. Will definitely return.

Jesse O'Keefe

Great first impression! We tried two starters, the tofu bimibop, and the the matcha ice cream sandwiches and I’d recommend them all. Cool look, good music, and extremely quick service. We will be back

I'm glad I gave this place a try despite the negative reviews. Service was very fast and friendly. I had the Korean fried chicken and the tuna bibimbap and both were excellent. The tuna bibimbap was like a hearty poke bowl. Yes the tip is included in the bill, which is clearly stated on the menu.

I have been here twice and the food was wonderful both times! Everything has great flavor and is very fresh. I recommend the ssam platters, they are a little pricy but you get quite a lot of food and a nice variety of banchan. My dining companion was so taken with the Korean-style long handled spoons that he ordered some on amazon right after the meal.

I had a reservation for my family and service was prompt once we arrived. The fried chicken wings in soy garlic were amazing. The bibimbop bowls came out in iron skillets and were piping hot. I was surprised how quickly the food was made considering they were a packed house that night. All the ingredients tasted very fresh and the pork was very lean. Excellent flavors and not too spicy. Just right. It’s a bit pricey but would happily return.

Should have checked review before trying out this one on Valentine's day! Worst restaurant in Madison now!! Tiny portion, very salty and tasteless, not authentic, high price, and served with an attitude! Most ridiculous is: you are automatically charged for 18% gratuity EVEN if you have only TWO persons! Be aware of the trick how they charge you: the first bill details the plate charges, with tax, but not counting the gratuity in the total amount, so the total amount looks normal at this moment. There is a note at bottom saying the restaurant will charge you 18% tip automatically. After you pay the credit card, the second bill only has a NEW total amount which is much higher than the first bill because now 18% is embedded in the total. If you don't remember the first bill, you would think this is the same amount as the first one. Then you probably would pay an extra 15% tip on the tipping line of the credit card bill. We will never come back and suggest you too.

Mr. Kimchi was a solid dining experience. The place itself as really cool, red lighting. The food was really good as well. Seasoned well and had lots of flavor.

Beautiful setting, friendly and helpful staff, and of course a wide variety of delicious food. A unique restaurant for sure!

Really great food! Great service. The Korean Fried Chicken with the spicy sauce is crazy good. Definitely go!

Jamey Cooper

I asked my waitress to tell them to make the spiciest Dak they could and then double it because I'm sick of bland pretend Korean but I still got a bland dish. When I asked what happened, the waitress said "real spicy food comes from Mexican food". She had no idea what Korean food should taste like, and I spent $25.00 a plate on low grade Americanized rice dishes. To top it off, in two hours I only had the chance to order a single beverage. The food and service are both terrible. Do yourself a favor and cook in if you want Korean, because you won't get that or even decent service here.

Brad Ladwig

Very few gluten free options but for those who can eat gluten the food is pretty good.

Joseph Ahn

Alright, for people who want to try out this place, don't be discouraged by its rating. The ratings were smeared by the unfair 1 star reviews (if you wanna see, sort by lowest rating, and you'll see 1 star reviews are from a particular group of people, and you know that if a restaurant deserves 1 star, it should be from various demographics, not just one group). It's definitely worth a try, but be ready to pay a bit. I'm also a Korean American that have eaten many foods in the states and Korea, if that gives any validity to my review. We had Tteokbokki, Yookwhae, sliders, Jjampong and salmon bibimbap. We were satisfied with all of them. First, Yookwhae was great. You might think 12 dollars is steep for it, but do keep in mind you probably can't find this any other place in Madison, and to find another, you'd have to go to Chicago most likely (and the one here was better anyway). Definitely recommend it unless you're a vegetarian. Second, I loved the spick pork bulgogi sliders. I think this is how a fusion should be, incorporating other influences but using Korean ingredients. What I tasted in there were Korean ingredients and no weird mix of other western things that might ruin it. Third, bibimbop was so good, y'all. To be honest, I low key judge people who go to Korean restaurants and order just bibimbop because it kinda seems like a basic option to me, but the one here, is a must try, bibimbops here are on a different level. Fourth, good job on the Jjampong. I grew up eating really good Jjampong so I had high standards for it, and it didn't didappoint. You could taste the clearness of the broth as well as the right amount of spicy, as it should be. Services were also great, I really don't know what these one star reviews are talking about. I do have to criticize for two things though. First, I thought the mussels in Jjampong didn't have the taste of the broth, which tells me it was added later...? I think Jjampong would taste even better (it already tastes good) if you can get the broth taste out of those mussels Second, I really liked the Tteokbokki, but its yangnyum (양념) didn't feel like it was spread evenly, which is pretty big for a style like this one, since you won't get the wet Tteokbokki like you would in other places. Still liked it very much. Definitely coming back to try out other things I missed tonight.

Went there last night in a party of 4. Service and the wait staff were amazing, and the food was excellent. We had the two noodle soups (jambong and the beef one), a hot bimbimbap bowl with squid, and a cold bimbimbap with tuna that was closer to a poke bowl. The jambong did take a little while to come out, but the wait staff did put in a great effort to keep us in the loop + take care of us while waiting. Between this place and K peppers I know where to get my Korean food fixes
