This Restaurant belongs to the category of Korean barbecue restaurant.
korean bbq and the setting at this location is super good. don't fret if it's busy, it is worth the wait. the service here is great. bring your hunger - portions are large.
Get the korean barbeque rable and cook your own. Plenty of sides. Not cheap byt a great experience
Great food and great service.
The private side rooms and the polite service.
amazing bbq must try been going for many years now
Amazing food and experience!
Food was excellent, but prices were steep
This is our favorite Korean place. The quality is always great. Other places can't compare on the flavour, especially the marinated beef for the Korean-style Kalbi. Cooking at the table is over a pot of wood coals, not gas. I love the bi bim ba in the stoneware pot, the pajun "pancake" is so delightfully crispy on the edges, it is all great. We have been coming here for 20 years now, still the best.
I did not realize when I first suggested Korean BBQ that my friends who picked the restaurant actually suggested a Japanese version of Korean BBQ. Perhaps that was part of the issue.... Having only done Korean BBQ one other time, the key things that stuck out to me were the endless side dishes. In particular, the fish cakes. So much to my dismay, I disheartened to hear that the sides not only were not endless, but they rationed the portions. It's like this, there were 6 of us and we ordered 5 meats - we were told we could only have sides for 4 people. That was disappointing and the sides went quick. Plus, there were no fish cakes. I may also have been expecting too much when I assumed that they may ask if this was our first time or perhaps give us a quick tutorial on how to cook the meat, but they didn't. Instead, we eventually got yelled at for doing it incorrectly. On the plus side, the meat was delicious. However; again, the portions were not all that plentiful and when you're trying to be polite and not eat the last piece because you're sharing with friends, you wind up leaving a little hungry. Or maybe that's just me. *Parking was easy. *They were able to accomodate a party of 6 plus a high chair, no problem. *It was baby friendly and I was a little concerned about the smoke and whatnot, but it wasn't an issue. *They also have cute little cubbies where you sit in a private little room; which if I went back, I would totally want to do that!
My top place for tasty Korean BBQ. Entered near nine, it wasn't busy. The bill was well within reason for the quality. Reminds me of a cafe in Chicago I liked to visit.
Hidden gem!
Warm, inviting place to try Korean BBQ for the first time. They bring out a charcoal oven for you to cook your own exotic (or not so exotic) meats and help you make sure you cook them correctly. You must try the bulgogi, it's so good! To make it even better, many famous baseball players have signed balls for the resturaunt after visiting.
Delicious and authentic cuisine, worth the price!
(Translated by Google) Calbee with bones is very delicious. There seems to be numerous major leaguers coming to the store and there are many signs in the store (Original) 骨付きカルビがとても美味しいです。メジャーリーガーも多数来店しているようで店内にはたくさんのサインがあります
Great place for Korean BBQ. The food is good but a bit on the expensive side. Like many Korean restaurants, side dishes comes with your meal. Friendly service. Alcohol is served here. One complaint is that ventilation system. The restaurant is often smoky due to the indoor grill. Walking out, my clothes smell of smoke.
We wanted to try a new Korean bbque around the area so we decided to go here. The service is good and staff was friendly and attentive. It wasn’t a busy night so place wasn’t crowded. And yes the reviews about them having small portions and decent ver price os true! Strongly agree that we paid almost a $100 for few pieces of meat and a set of side dish half a bowl of rice per bowl for 2. To my surprise since side dish wasn’t enough we decided to and if we get refill and they said we will be charge $10 for a set of vegetable side dish... We’ve been to other Korean bbque place and it was first time we we’re charged for vegetable side dish. Not worth the money best to find other Korean bbque place. We left the restaurant still hungry..
Food overall was average, nothing special at all. It's pretty over run with the Japanese theme as well, don't be fooled by the Korean spelling on the outside. One of the things Korean food is known for is the side dishes that come FREE with the meal. However, upon asking for a second helping of Kimchi and beansprout we were shocked to see that we were actually charged an extra dollar for any additional side dishes we wanted, this is ridiculous, I have never had to pay extra ANYWHERE for side dishes. Will not go back to this place, if you are looking for a very tasty Korean restaurant, go to Arirang Restaurant located right next to the Super H-Mart in Niles, they have excellent food there and we are disappointed that we wasted our money elsewhere.
Food, service, everything is excellent and authentic.
Great Korean food
(Translated by Google) It's expensive but delicious. (Original) 高いけど美味しいです。
They actually charge to fill per side dish without telling me. I never been to korean place that charge for refills. The portion of the meat is really small so expect to order alot if you really hungry. You order dinner for two and it was barely enough for one. The taste is just decent. Never coming back again. Such a rip.
Chicago Kalibi is a must stop for us whenever we are in Chicago. We just love the food here so much. They have pictures all over the restaurant of famous people and autographed baseballs who have visited them over the years. We ordered our usual: Kara-age (seasoned fried chicken wings), beef fried rice, bulgogi, squid, and lemon sherbet and green tea ice cream for dessert. The Kara-age are petit, but have such a delightful flavor to them. I do not know what they put in their beef fried rice, it is simple but has such an amazing taste to it. Their bulgogi is marinated and tender and just melts in your mouth. And we always get a kick out of the lemon dessert being served in a lemon. We have been going here for quite a few years now and the wait staff is always so friendly and the owner always recognizes us even though we only go about once a year or so. It does get a little a smokey in here and when the fans get going it can be quite loud, but all of that is worth it for the food.
(Translated by Google) Nice food and service. Japanese Korean BBQ. The portion is also Japanese level. Japanese grilled meat. A lot of celebrity visit to the store. I would smell if I eat yakiniku so I should not wear good clothes. (Original) Nice food and service. Japanese Korean BBQ. Smokey, chimney, dense smoke!
Love the service and the food was great. We got the combo set of Barbeque and it came with all these amazing small portions of food. Good enough for 2 people. And comes with a little scoop of matcha ice cream at the end. Tasted so good. We did not realize how popular this place was till we went in and were made to wait 20mins to get a table, and there were more people coming in constantly.
Too expensive for little amount of food..... even the side dishes was not enough.... paid too much, left hungry... service was good tho
Looong wait on Sat night without a reservation but the food and service made up for it.
My favorite Korean BBQ in Chicago. They give a lot of meat for the price. Service is very good, the staff are really friendly. We had the Korean-style kalbi and bulgogi, both were excellent. Comes with sides, rice, and miso soup, plenty of food for two people.
Japanese-style Korean bbq served in a cozy setting. The place gets very busy, so plan accordingly. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.
Portions are small, amount of meat for BBQ not very generous. Beware they charge extra for additional side dishes; most Korean BBQ places will offfer these free of charge. Bottom line : overpriced, overrated. You're better off somewhere else.
Good food good service very professional food is fresh and good
It's best Japanese/Korean BBQ in Chicago! I highly recommend kalbi and Kobe beef. Yukke is also a very impressive appetizer due to its freshness and juicy taste. The service is great and staffs are very friendly
Amazing food, but long line...
Korean BBQ taco!
(Translated by Google) Definitely delicious! ️ (Original) 間違いなく美味しい‼️
The best of the best. Wonderful friendly service.
Unbeatable services. Make sure you try their appetizers (they are more like Izakaya in that regard) before diving into the grilled items which focus on quality rather than quantity, you won't be disappointed. Don't miss out on the Sapporo on tab! One of few grandfathered in place that still serves charcoal grills!!
I'm picky about Korean restaurants. This place is always inviting and the meat is quite good. I wish there were a few more banchan but having a a private table/ room is perfect with our 1 year old.
Always great food in a cool spot. Owners and staff are always very welcoming and accommodating.
Chicago Kalbi is Da BOMB! The quality of meat is top notch. They even have American Kobe if you want to splurge. The service is always great. The owners are super friendly and make sure that you are taken care of. Besides the BBQ, I love their green salad. I don't think a lot of people know about it, but the dressing might be my favorite on the planet. Don't forget to get their fruit sorbets for dessert. No lie, I frequently get 1 of each flavor, lemon, pineapple, coconut, and mango, even though I'm really freaking full! Love it! I've been going here for years and it has NEVER disappointed.
korean bbq, mmm, delicious. Will surely make a return trip.
Great bulgogi!
Idk how they can get 4.5 stars. Me and my friend ordered a combo for 2 ($50). We were shocked when seeing what they gave us: some thin pieces of beef and chicken. Only me can finish it in 5 mins lol, well the meat was so dry and wasn’t marinated good. And they will charge for refilling the side dishes too. So disappointed!!!
My husband and I always come here everytime we miss K-BBQ
Chicken was absolutely delicious! Not a super huge serving but if you are with other people the food starts to add up! Service is incredible and everyone here is super nice and friendly! Will definately coming back!
I was in the area and craving korean. So my phone shows this is the closest. The workers were very nice. The food was overpriced and portions were too small. Food was overall okay. There's so many korean bbq places in the city that are much better. I personally wouldn't go back.
Great Korean bbq restaurant, but the price was a little high
Food was authentic and fresh and the owners greet every customer with genuine appreciation. Wonderful Chicago experience.
Great food
Great food. Love their green tea ice cream. Great service
Chicago Kalbi Korea
Very small portions considering their prices. I ordered a regular adult portion for my 5 years old daughter and she was still hungry. This is ridiculous. The food was good, I would give 3 stars out of 5. I would definitely NOT go there again.
(Translated by Google) As major leaguer goes there, it is quite delicious. Because the amount is not American size, it is also good to relax various parts. Moth (Original) メジャーリーガーが通うだけありかなり美味しい。 量もアメリカサイズではないため、色々な部位をたのめるのもGood‼️
I agree with some other reviewers... I been to many Korean bbq s. This plAce is kind over rated ......spent close to $100 for 2 and should hAve had more portions in our food. Service is ok.....they do thier job....just not friendly.
2nd best Korean restaurant in Chicago. Very authentic and delicious.
High quality meat and excellent service. Not cheap, but worth the price.
Great food and atmosphere. I can tell you first hand, it is just like the Korean BBQ restaurants in Japan.
The best Korean BBQ in Chicago!
This place is really great! The service is very quick and the food came out fast. We had the meat lovers soup (army stew) and the pork bulgogi, both of which were very flavorful and delicious. The banchans were all very tasty (we had fish cake, broccoli, potato, soy bean, and cabbage kimchi). My personal favorite is the fish cake. I will definitely be coming back to try to soondubu and bibimbap. Also happy to see that they deliver as well!
The bbq is a rip off for the customers. This one plate of beef is $19. That’s it. I asked the waitress if they are refilling it after and she said no. The side dishes are overly sweet and not authentic. Don’t waste your time and go eat at an all you can eat kbbq. I can’t believe this place is 4/5 stars. The food is mediocre. The best thing was the sorbet which is disappointing because the focus should be on the food not a dessert item.
Very Friendly Staff, Excellent Food and overall a great experience for my first time at a Korean BBQ.
Best restaurant in chicago no one knows about. Been coming here forever and brought countless friends. Must try A5 wagyu from japan. Short rib and prime rib.
I like this place very much. It's my go to Korean BBQ place in Chicago. I like the food, both the meats and the banchan. The service is very good as well. Every time I went there the owner greeted us. Unfortunately I live in the suburbs and can't go there often now.
Private booths are nice for groups. Wait was long on an early Saturday evening. Portions are a bit small. Crowded layout.
Awesome place. Will come back. They made us something we wanted but not on the menu.
The food was great. If you like baseball you'll love the restaurants display of signed memorabilia.
Delicious Korean barbecue with a slight Japanese influence. The portions are not large, but the meat is high quality. Unlike most barbecue places I've been to, they use charcoal instead of gas flames for grilling at the table.
Amazing service, incredible tasting meat - so tender! All the sides are unique and you should try each one on its own at first. We would definitely be back! Side note : we ordered the prime ribeye kobe beef and went around 10:30 on a Friday
Great spot for some authentic Korean barbecue. Family-run wonderful atmosphere
Great atmosphere and even better food! The staff are very friendly and helpful and they are very fast! Had a great first visit, and I would surely come back in the future.
THIS IS A JAPANESE YAKINIKU RESTAURANT - this is not actual, authentic Korean food; if you like Korean food, don’t go here. You pay $20 for literally 3-4 oz. of meat. The staff was very polite, and the ingredients seemed to be good quality, but this is by no means authentic Korean food. All of the bbq meats were marinated (there should be a mix of both non-marinated and marinated), and the side dishes tasted a little off, though the bean sprouts were good. Speaking of the side dishes, each one of which contains maybe about three teaspoons of actual food, and they charge you (without telling you) $1.50 per side dish if you ask for more. My friend and I spent $55 on probably 7-8 oz. of meat, five tiny dumplings, and 8 tiny side dishes. Oh, they also don’t split the check, and acted like they were doing us the world’s biggest favor by doing so when we explained that we literally had no other way to pay. This is the first restaurant in Chicago I have ever been to that won’t split a check. I am noticing that no actual Koreans are giving this place good reviews, and it’s no wonder. We only came here because Cho Sun Ok had a long line and Woo Chon (both much better restaurants serving actual Korean food) was closed. We came to the restaurant starving, and 30 minutes after having left, our stomachs were growling again. I think we’d probably have had to spend at least $100 on meat alone just to be remotely full. This place should change its name to include the phrase ‘Japanese-style Korean BBQ,’ because it’s very misleading. If you are anorexic/aren’t very hungry, don’t care about authenticity, and have a ton of money that you just need to spend on severely overpriced food, then you might like this place. Foodies, Koreans, and lovers of real Korean cuisine: stay away - you’ll be sorry!
The owner is very friendly.
Best Korean BBQ. We started with Pajun, which is squid and green onions pan grilled pancake. Yum. Then we ordered Kalbi (Japanese) and Hone Kalbi (Korean) beef. Both are absolutely amazing, but Hone is more fatty which is to my liking. After you place the order they will bring out charcoal grill already super hot coals inside and place it in the middle of the table, following with meats and vegetables (we ordered separately mushrooms and mixed veggies). It comes with small variations of 6 different side dishes (banchan) most of which is kimchi (Korean fermented vegetables). In addition to that, the meal comes with soup and a side of rice. We ate and felt like kings (n queens): staff was very attentive and our beers (Sapporo and Hite) hit the spot. For dessert (yes, that's right, we had dessert too!) we had green tea and red bean ice cream.
Legit Korean BBQ over charcoal. Well-priced, will definitely come back!
Came with a group of 6 people and absolutely loved it. Service was great we got our own little room which made the experience that much better. Definitely recommend this place. Just dont be stuck being the cook like me !!
Fun interactive dinner

Excellent service and food. This restaurant is one of those hidden gems in Chicago. It has a real Japanese authenticity to it with just a little touch of the Korean flavor with side dishes. Also, if you're a baseball fan you can see the pictures of the players or teams that's been there. The players even signed a few baseball as well for customers to see while you wait to get seated. In my opinion, this restaurant is definitely one of the best Japanese BBQ spots in Chicago.
Excellent experience, high quality product.
Instantly fell in love with this place. It has a very homey feel and this place has fantastic Japanese and Korean dishes, drinks, and bbq. The staff/service here are super friendly and welcoming. I'm actually sad that I dont live in Chicago, otherwise I would absolutely frequent this place. THANK YOU, KALBI!
Food was ok
The food here is very authentic, and the employees are incredibly friendly. I will definitely be back everytime I'm missing Asia.
Love Chicago Kalbi, every time we go it’s so good! Very authentic Korean BBQ, you won’t be disappointed from the food to the experience everything is good. Decent prices and really attentive staff. Happy to have such a good restaurant so close in the neighborhood!
This spot is worth a try. They serve big portions for convenient prices. Consistently well kept and with great atmosphere. Highly recommended.
If you don't give this play 5 stars idfwu.
Great food and service
Great food. Great service.
Very good but a bit on the expensive side for the location. For example: 3 meats, 1 pancake, a small plate of veg, 1 small bowl of rice, makoli and sorbet was $105 (after tax pre tip)
Great service, delicious Kimchi, and high quality meats. Definitely check it out. You have to buy two meats to get the charcoal grill, 7 Kimchi, rice and Miso soup.
So far the best Korean BBQ experience I've had in Chicago. The green tea ice cream is the greatest tasting dessert I've had at any restaurant period. Also bonus that this place is open late. Love it, will be coming back again and again.
I thought this place was an authentic korean restaraurant, but no was I wrong. The place is quite small for big parties. My girlfriends and I went in for a night in Chicago and thought we dine in at Chicago Kalbi base on the reviews. The place looks japanese style. The food was okay. The service was horrible, or maybe because we came on a Saturday night, which was quite busy too, but our waiter did not attend us at all. We have to ask for attention. The portions are small for the price. The side dishes are good, but BE CAREFUL! If you want more side dishes or extra bowl of rice, they will charge you $1.50 for extra. I have never been to any korean restaurant before that charges for extra side dishes. Horrible experience.
Love this place! Great experience and great food, but the best part is the owner, who seems to remember every returning guest by name. You will feel welcome whether it's your first visit or your 40th. Great food prepared the way you want, in a manner you'll remember.
High prices, no hostess, open tables and still a very long wait to be seated.
Nice little place, would have liked for them to explain everything better as this was our first time experiencing Korean BBQ. Felt a little rushed but over all a nice experience.
The food is outstanding but the owners are incredible. Thank you so much for making us feel like family.
Meat is very good, service is great
The spicy bacon is soooooo good
You can have fantastic original Japanese BBQ here. Don't go to the 牛角,because here is better
Best BBQ I've had in Chicago. It's Japanese style Korean BBQ,love it!
(Translated by Google) In Chicago it is famous for many years Yakiniku restaurant. Signature balls, photographs and goods of Japanese Major Leaguers are lining up. It looks like the inside of the shop is smoking due to smoke, it is a Japanese bBQ shop. Mostly Japanese staff and service very polite. The quality of meat is high and the side menu is satisfied. There are Yukke that can not be eaten in Japan. Upper Mino, Tetcchan, Hatsu, Pig Toro are all good. How do you see $ 20 for 1 serving Calbi? In case It is natural from the meat level. Even within Chicago it is a pretty high price setting. Considering a chip of + 15% to 18% on this, about $ 60-70 person alone. It is good to enjoy various kinds of meat with 4 or more people. It was awfully crowded on weekends and nights, so you better reserve it. And of course clothes are good even if it smells.
Worth the wait. Amazing hospitality. Great quality. Def worth another visit.
Owners were great. They where very friendly towards us.
Really great Korean BBQ. Plenty of food, all very fresh. Cooking your meat yourself at your table is fun and ensures hot food, fresh off the grill. Good atmosphere. Staff is very friendly, efficient and accommodating.
It's not full on Korean food as you would think by the name. Menu does not describes on what u buying. Portions were little. Prices were to much for what they offered. I have been to many Korean restaurants and payed same for twice to tree time portion. Also for some reason they don't like to split checks. If u come with group of people prepare to pay as one bill. Not so sure why people have this place rated so high. I guess if u new to this kind of food. Me and my friends didn't cared much for it.
Not the place to go for Korean BBQ
My first Korean BBQ and it was fun and delicious. This place is quaint and cozy. The service is great and you feel like you are sitting in your own dining room or kitchen. I loved it and so will you.
(03/18/2011) I made reservations and spoke to a lady a week before for my birthday dinner. Everything was confirmed. When that time and day came, they told us that they have never made reservations with me before nor did they have a room for us. I was furious, of course. Who wouldn't be?!! Minutes later, a party left and they told us this wonderful news. We got our own room, ordered food, ate food, and had a wonderful time. I warn you though, this place is really really expensive~!! We grilled our own meats but we only got 4-5 side dishes. Their vents sucks! I went here twice and the air is very smoky. My eyes started to water and it felt like I was next to someone cutting onions. I wouldn't come back again.
Good staff. Awesome food. Decent prices
Great Korean BBQ. Bulgogi and Kalbi with Kim Chi. 5 stars!!!
Great food, great experience, and wonderfully attentive staff.
1st time & lived in the neighborhood for a while. I can't believe I never stopped by, highly recommend! Customer Service is above and beyond, smiling people and happy, this is what makes one return due to the positive energy! Food taste is great! I would for sure come back and continue to do so! Keep Up The Great Job & Friendly Environment!
Owner is friendly and good is delicious! Highly recommended.
high price, but the great Korean food.
We had carry out. I got the bulgogi, and she had the miso soup. The bulgogi was dry, and a bit overdone, but flavorful. the soup tasted a little off, and a lot more veggies than we were used to in our miso, though it was not bad. The service was excellent, even for carry out. They are so friendly and welcoming, makes you feel good. We are going to give it another try.
Walked in and was immediately seated. Staff was very friendly and you'll notice A LOT of baseball memorabilia. You can tell the owners are big fans. We ordered some stuff to grill - a little on the pricey side but the meat was high quality and the sides that came with it were very good too, even the miso was the best I've tried around. They also use charcoal in their grill, so it's not just some flames underneath a metal plate. Ended up leaving very full and satisfied, definitely got my moneys worth and I hope to come back soon. Street parking wasn't difficult to find too, but my visit was also late at night.
Food is really good. Quality is great
The owner really makes you feel at home as for the food there's nothing close like it really amazing. Its more then a dine in experince.
Been in Chicago as a tourist for 4 days and went to many restaurant but this is the first place I received a warm greeting, friendly smiles, and excellent services. Good BBQ overall.
Absolutely amazing literally the best kalbi you can get love this place and the service is exceptional!! 10/10 for sure!!
Friendly staff and great variety in menu! We came with a big reservation of 25 people and were seated in a private room which was nice
This place is worth giving a shot. They serve large portions for reasonable prices. Regularly clean and with great character. Will visit here again.
Great food, do not book parties >16.
High quality food. Service is great but little slow and the price is a little high.
My favorite Korean BBQ in Chicago and I've been to alot, there meet is not fatty and all the sides are fresh and tasty, the service is great the owner and servers are very accommodating. love this place and recommend it to anyone who wants an experience of cooking your own meat
Loved this place! You can cook your own meat on a charcoal grill! It was a genuine experience
One of the best Korean BBQ in the city.
Still going after 18 years.
I can't tell you how amazing this place is. Everything is like an explosion in your mouth of deliciousness! Make sure to try the qual egg tartar!
The best Korean BBQ in town.
My favorite restaurant! Love the yakigyoza and pajun! MmMm Excellent service!!
Always have a nice time when we go here. Good meat and fun atmosphere. A modern facelift would be so nice. But still 5 stars because the service and food are sufficient.
This is my second time coming here and once again I am not disappointed. This place is a fusion between Japanese and Korean food. The bulgogi (불고기) kalbi (갈비) were so delicious. The staff were very accommodating to our group, and very generous with the portions. The green tea ice cream is a must! 감사합니다 P.S. For groups with 6 or more people, call ahead for a reservation but even if you do not call, the wait for us was only 20 or so minutes.
Best BBQ in Chicago
Ask for the secret Japanese menu which has the wagyu beef from Japan ;) easily the best quality and most delicious meat in Chicago. Itadakimasu!
Great Korean BBQ with lots of baseball collections!
Horrible food very over price for so little. Seven small shrimp for $19
Went there because we heard of it on TV, so we gave it a try, the mistake we made was not making a reservation. They were very busy, this Korean restaurant brings a small grill to your table and you grill your own meat, beef, chicken ,pork it's fantastic comes with all the Korean sides kimchi, bean sprouts , and other spicy sides ,and rice. Make sure you know how to use chop sticks , but they will happily give you a fork and knife, enjoy it is a very nice place to go to.
More expensive than just 2 stars. But the meat quality is premium.
First time going to this place, i would say its the best Korean BBQ that i have ever eat...good and fresh foods especially very good service... The staffs here are very professional and very friendly...highly recommended!!
Friendly staff. Food is okay. This is almost like Japanese style BBQ with korean side dishes. Wait time is really long especially on weekends.
Small, very nice place, make a reservation otherwise you will have a long wait time before you get seated, food is fantastic , a little expensive , small servings like a tapa bar . I would go back, staff is super nice .
Great as usual!
Although the portions were small relative to its cost, the food tasted great and service couldn't be better. Atmosphere felt warm and nice.
Very small portion of food for the price and they will charge you if you ask for extra sides. Bad service!!
Fantastic food!
Too expensive, tiny portions.
Amazing
Staff is very professional, top notch service. All food is delicious, and beautiful. Once I walk in the door, I'm transported back to Japan, to the excellent Korean BBQ restaurants they had there.
The price is kind of expensive for the amount of meat you get.
