Kimchi poutine is amazing! Soy beef over rice was the same. Delicious!

Kimberly Lowe

Service, atmosphere and cocktails were excellent. I wasn’t as thrilled with my entree as I was with the small plates (Kimchi Poutine and Beef Tartare were pretty good). This is a great place to get a quick bite and a cocktail before or after a show, but you might want to call ahead

Adrielle Szerbat

My experience here was great. They have taken traditional Korean dishes and simplified them to the point where any common person can understand what they are ordering. Very nice environment. The food was presented amazingly and tasted amazing as well! Gluten free options were plentiful. 10/10 would reccomend. I spent 30$ total. That included the meal, a side, dessert, and tip. Well worth it. I thought it would've been more expensive for what I got. So so worth it, I'll definitely be coming back!

Server was personable but the place seemed short staffed. No manager presence seen. Food was good but not as great as I was expecting. Loved the pork belly on my pork belly entree but was not thrilled that the dish was served deconstructed. I would go back but probably not on a weekend night

Had wonderful food and service when we came here. Joining the community table for a deal on drinks is a nice touch. There were so many delicious looking items on the menu I will most definitely have to go multiple times in order to experience this restaurant fully. Striking, yet inviting ambiance that teeters near the edge of fancy. Presentations were simple yet beautifully prepared. Prices are fair given the quality of food you are eating. You're in the third ward after all!

Steve Rouze

Great place to try a lot of different small Korean dinner plates and share with your family and friends. Great staff as well!

Marshall Schmitz

Potion size was the smallest I've had of any restaurant in my life. Long wait times between each course too

Will Schreiner

Slow service for food and drinks. Food was great, drinks were ok.

Jackie Oraedu

Pretty restaurant. Yiu don't need to really dress up, we overdressed. Not the biggest portions. Old-fashioned drink wasn't as good as others in the city

This place is BOMB. The decor is hip, trendy and very Green. The service is great and the food is DELICIOUS. We literally ordered every appetizer and we (group of 11) moaned our way through it all. The highlights for me were the KFC - Korean Fried Chicken, the kimchi fries, and the Galbi! The Kombucha Mule was yummy and so was the Galaxy lemonade. I've been to South Korea 3 times... this place is so authentic and DELICIOUS. I wanna go back and I just went!

The food saved this rating. Everything was tasty and filling. The service was so slow. Restaurant wasn’t even full. Drinks took 30 mins. Staff was nice but the wait for our orders was a downer.

Alex Grutza

Couldn't be sat in the dining area, however, their bar at the front offers the full dining menu. The food is absolutely incredible.

Food is a sensual experience, and while everything I tasted was delicious (though often too sweet), the song list this evening killed it for me. Food: 4 stars or better. Ambience: zero. 100% synthasized dance club pop for an hour and a half? That's extreme. I could sit through almost any other genre. This music has its place, and it's at a dance club. Any music that used any real instruments at all would have won you 4.5 stars from me.

Corey Nettles

Decor/ Ambiance: 5. Nice jazz music in a cozy industrial space ( imagine that oxymoron ). Bar seating for lunch or hi top bar seats at the window. Food: 4.5. The bulgogi bowl is delicious, it did not need any spices added. The kimchi was also tasty, but a bit small of a portion for the price. Service: 3.5. This really had nothing to do with the wait staff, they were great. It was difficult to understand how the ordering worked at first, as they have you line up to put an order in, but it's not very apparent that's how it works. Inthink a slip of paper you mark would work beter than a single tablet Otherat the end of the bar. Customers looked a bit confused in line as well during this process. Also they have you pay first, and getting flatware and water is self serve. I waited a while before I figured that was the case. The staff was great, I think maybe a bit more coaching by them to the customers on the unusually for America service setup would be helpful Overall I think this is a great spot to relax and have a bite, but there are still some opening kinks to work out. I'll feeling it's a 5 star now that I know about the idiosyncrasies of the service.

We were expecting a more traditional Korean BBQ but this place does a great fusion take on Korean BBQ. Drinks were terrific and many choices on drink menu. Korean ceviche was delicious with the chilled quinoa. Pork belly lettuce wraps were outstanding and Korean paella surprised as a fun dish similar to bi bim bop. Will definitely come back.

I want to be optimistic that Char'd will stay in business because the food was delicious and the servers/host were friendly, but my god is the kitchen and bar slow. When we arrived, the restaurant was 60-70% full...it took 25 minutes to make two cocktails, and then another 40 minutes to get our appetizers. Then our dinner arrived at the exact time as our appetizers. Another couple went to Char'd and had a similar experience. Hopefully the owners/managers read the reviews on their business. They've got a solid product but with so many other quality options in the city there's no way this place will last if the operations continue to be substandard.

Came back for dinner this time, and everything was AMAZING again! Their dinner menu is pretty extensive with lots of innovative small plates to grilled meats on hot stones that really elevated the whole dining experience. Cocktails were also interesting and delicious (get the Far East and Yuzu Beez!) So so good - my fav restaurant in MKE. ------------------ Nice patios outside with bunch of different seating options in their lounge. I stopped in for a quick lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the nice interior design and interesting menu. I had their real fruit mango smoothie which was refreshing, and their chicken panini and it was delicious! Lunch prices were so affordable and a great value for its quality. Prices ranged around $7-$13. Can’t wait to come back to try their ramen!

Everyone at my table loved their plates and so did I except for one thing (chard dumplings). While the food was yummy, it was a bit rich. The decor is 3rd Ward at its finest. Get the wings!

Decent food and lovely waitress but 75 minute wait for my meal. Will not be back.

Friendly staff, tasty mule, and amazing cauliflower dish!

Maly L

Delicious but overpriced. I get it that this is small plates and that there aren't many korean joints in town. They are capitalizing on that. Went with a group of 6, we had chard dumplings, braised belly, beef bulgogi, KFC wings, scallion pancake, soft tofu stew, & some churro ice cream. Our fav was the braised pork belly with the ssam sauce. Bill came to $240ish w/tip. Must say that their kimchi is PERFECT (must be house made). Compared to stone bowl, their kimchi has good spice to it and has flavor. Stone bowl kimchi is very bland for me and I've been there multiple times.

I came here for my birthday back in July, 2018. I called ahead and they accommodated 25 people. They are fairly new (almost a year old now) and I think this was one of their first times hosting a huge party, but they were amazing! Food came staggered, but we knew what we were in for with such a large group. Service was awesome. Food tasted AMAZING. I was given a complimentary birthday dessert. It was a low key time with good friends and fantastic food. I highly recommend eating here because they treat you like good friends.

Tammy Bartley

My office was here last night for Happy Hour. We had a wonderful time!!! The 2 Ladies that were tending bar were awesome!! They made sure we were not empty. The drinks were interesting, creative, and well priced. The music was nice. Loud enough to hear, but low enough for us to talk and engage each other. The decor and atmosphere was nice and welcoming. Great place to be !!!

Great service, nice decor, good food. Prices were reasonable but please note that we were there for their lunch menu. Enjoyed the KFC wings and the bulgogi bowl. Kimchee poutine... wow. So good. Even their frappes were fantastic. Would go again but cannot speak to their dinner menu.

Lucinda Thao

They ran out of a bunch of items like the braised pork belly, blue moon, grey goose, understaffed! Ordered the black bean noodles. Over sauced and watered down, little portions, there was mussel shell in every got dam bite of the black bean noodle dish. It's was disgusting. If you ever had legit Korean food this place is definitely a NO! I highly do not recommend this place! OVER PRICED!!!

Lucy Wilhelms

Good atmosphere, great drinks, and innovative menu. Dishes range from traditional to unique. While I miss the restaurant that used to be in this location, Char'd is a worthy replacement.

1/19 update: The menu has expanded since my first visit and there are many additional vegetarian and vegan options on the menu! Love everything about Char’d! The vegetarian options are lacking but the mushroom super bowl was above and beyond my expectations. I ordered it less than enthusiastic about the few vegetarian options offered but I was not disappointed and pleasantly surprised. Will definitely be back for more!

Definitely not the best Korean food I've tried but worth the experience. Nice decor and excellent staff. A tad pricey but catch their specials!

If you want to experience something different, unique and delicious, Char'd is definitely the place. Korean bbqs kicked up a notch. So glad I came here.

Sunday Special was very, very good. At $18 per person it is a steal. This is pretty darn authentic Korean food, even if they do call it New Korean. I had spicy beef soup, which was served so hot I had to stir it a lot, blow on it and wait until it cooled down. The flavor was funky good, and the ton of chili flakes made it VERY spicy - which I love. My pork bulgogi was probably the best I've ever had. My dining companion had the Korean miso soup and beef bulgogi, both very tasty, especially the bulgogi. All this was accompanied by 4 side dishes. The seaweed with tofu was unexpectedly my gave. If you are an adventurous eater, don't miss Chat'd!

Mayaserena Her

We had the sizzling seafood soup and the marrow & ribs. The food was yummy but the portions are small for the price. Just these two entrees were $70+ and barely fed two people. I was mainly impressed by how tender and soft the ribs were. All in all, I’m glad I tried this place but I probably would not come back here. It’s not authentic Korean food - Seoul or Stone Bowl would be better places if you want authentic. The restaurant is beautiful and the food is good but you’ll get more food in a more authentic style for a better price at other places.

This place was very busy when we came in for our reserved table. We had to wait a little while to be seated but it was ok because they said they wanted a clean table for us.. so that’s good. The food is good. I liked my dish a lot. I had the braised belly dinner. The pork belly melted in my mouth. The portion was ok for it being around $17 not including taxes & tips. With tips and taxes, you’re looking at around $21 for that plate. Our waiter was very attentive.

20/10. One of my new favorite restaurants in Milwaukee. Decor is amazing, service was attentive and eager to share things about the restaurant. Drinks that we had were very good. Ssam CAN NOT BE PASSED UP! Get it! Get all of it! We got the beef and it was just out of this world. The marinade on the meat was so so good, the ssam sauce is a little smoky but you can add to your liking, kind of like a lettuce wrap taco. We also got the dumplings which were huge! We were told that the starter plates were about half of an appetizer but the dumplings I would say are definitely appetizer size. For two people, the dumplings and ssam was the perfect amount of food. Everything about this place was awesome and I cannot wait to go back!!!!

Went here to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and we really enjoyed our food and drinks! We opted to go the tapas route (they also have an "entree" section) and ordered the Char'd Dumplings, Bok Choy Stir Fry, Kimchi Disco Fries, KFC Wings and Scallion Pancake. Everything was really yummy, with the dumplings, wings and pancake being my top 3 favorites of the night. The bok choy stir fry felt a little hard to eat (I accidentally splattered some of the stir fry sauce on my shirt because it was hard to pick up with either chopsticks or a fork) and we both thought it would have been even better had there been some additional vegetables or even a side of toasted rice along with it - there was a lot of stir fry sauce leftover in the bok choy dish. But not a big deal at all, just an observation. All in all, a delicious dinner.

Exquisitely prepared meal from start to finish. Visited here for the first time for dinner during Downtown Dining Week and was impressed with the appetizers, main courses, and desserts. Regular prices are definitely not as modest as those for Downtown Dining Week though they are certainly not unreasonable considering the quality and ambiance. Would recommend to someone looking for a more upscale, trendy experience to have Korean BBQ.

Worst service ever. Wasn't told until 20 minutes after ordering that the entree I ordered wasn't available. The server literally did not know what a captain and coke was, which was astonishing. 40 minutes later, the server tells me that captain and coke is coming up, only to be told 20 minutes later that they're out of captain morgan. Bill gets dropped off and taken, and I watched my server help other tables for 15 minutes before receiving my receipt. I have never seen a restaurant with worse hospitality than this.

Erica Berg

So inventive! Pomegranate soju and Korean chicken wings very tasty. Took home some kimchi too.

Larissa Amar

Finally got to try this place after hearing raves from others and I absolutely LOVED it!! Inside of the restaurant is just gorgeous, with cool lightings and pops of greens throughout. The nice decor definitely put me in a good mood to start. Now on to the food, my family got bunch of plates to share among. I liked how they were coming out paced, so that we could thoroughly enjoy each dish one by one. The wings were definitely a crowd pleaser, and so was the kimchi poutine. We got the galbi and pork ssam, the kimchi fried rice and black bean noodle for our mains. Everything was presented beautifully and they all tasted SO good!! Yes, I thought the price was not on a cheap side at first, but i mean not all Asian restaurants have to be cheap. Char’d delivers some high quality food in an elegant space. I thought the price matched their food and service. I’ve been to many Korean restaurants when I was in NY, so I know what a typical one is like. This place does not resemble any of those eateries. Char’d seems to be more on high-end, with reasonable prices, and you can tell by their menu, that they are not about serving traditional Korean classics. Their menu instead experiments with Korean culinary techniques and recipes to create something original. They intentionally puts their own spin into traditional Korean dishes, and I think they are doing a pretty good job with it. I am excited to see this type of modern cuisine added to the food scene in Milwaukee. This means you don’t need to like Korean food to like this place. Just try if you like to eat creative, tasty food! Oh, and don’t expect free side dishes here. There’s no need to. Since when did it become a rule to serve freebies at restaurants?? Sure it can be a plus factor, but should never be a minus.

Char’d is a Korean restaurant in the Third Ward area, specializing in Korean staples and a special Sunday menu. Food: We did go on a Sunday, to see the difference between weekly and special menu. The difference is that we were given 4 small sample plates of appetizers with our meal. All for were very different, but good none the less (kimchi, eggplant, seaweed salad, etc…) We started with the cauliflower shishito pepper appetizer, which was very good and nice size for an app. For our main dishes, my wife got the Beef Bulgogi with the lettuce wraps, and I got the Spicy Chicken with the lettuce wraps. Both dishes were very good. The chicken wasn’t very spicy, so don’t let it detour you from getting if you aren’t into spice. Getting it with the lettuce wraps made it much lighter (than if you did it with rice) and very fresh tasting. Size of the dish was decent for the price. You won’t have leftovers, but you won’t leave hungry either. Atmosphere: Very cute bar, and the dinning space is a decent space too. They also seemed to have a side room for bigger parties. Also, really cute succulent section off to the side. Service: Server was nice, however messed up one of our meals. That said, she was quick to fix and very kind about it. Overall: 8/10. Cute spot, small but concise menu, and a nice bar/waiting area before the meal. Should you be looking for Korean food in Milwaukee, I’d definitely add it to the list.

This place doesn't have Korean food, it has Korean fusion food. There is a major difference. The food is fine, but after the third visit I realized how sweet everything is. Pretty much every dish tastes sweet.... They don't have the banchan for free like most traditional Korean restaurants. And the service is just meh... It wouldn't kill the host to be a little more friendly.

Derek Higgins

Linda Xiong

The place has been only opened for 2 weeks now and my first time going there with my girlfriends, the service right away was welcoming. It is self-served! The place is really aesthetic, the store manager was really talkative and welcomed us very well. I got the Korean Fried Chicken (KFC) & the Chicken Ramen (more on the spicy side) but still delicious. Recommend coming here! Oh, they also serve coffee & tea so it can also be a cafe too!

Leila Sahar

The food here was really great. And the servers did everything they could to take care of us. Unfortunately, the kitchen and bar were very slow. It took a really long time to get our drinks and appetizers, so the main course came out before we could finish the apps. We gave them the benefit of the doubt since it seemed like a really busy night. But we ate dinner on the later side for Milwaukee and as tables began to clear out, it didn't really improve. We'll definitely be back, since the food was so good. Hoping the slow pace was just a fluke.

Food was really good, ambiance pleasant, service also good. Docking one star because the website advertises a Sunday special menu with combo items of a main dish + soup for $18. But, this is not the menu they're currently offering in the restaurant on Sundays. We went last Sunday and found that the prices are significantly higher, with entrees around $16 and soups a separate $9-$10 - there's no combo for $18. Char'd needs to update their menu online so patrons don't feel misled when they arrive at the restaurant and see much higher prices.

We had high hopes for this place as regular patrons of Asian cuisine. But even after poor service (the server left our 4-top abandoned for long stretches of 15, 30, even 40 minutes after we said we needed “a couple minutes”), we still were excited for the food. Admittedly the small plates were good: we had the spicy edamame, the Korean fried chicken and the crepes, and they were well-made. However, the cocktails, when they FINALLY were served (we had been in the restaurant for nearly an hour by the time we got them) were either too bitter or too sweet. I ordered the cod on radish, a dish that I thought sounded really promising and fresh, but instead was a heavy-handed syrupy mess that tasted like an acidic ketchup with stale fish on top. Sorry, but we won’t be going back. Come back, Hinterland!

Robert Holt

Food was all very good, portions were small for the price though. But what really turned us off was how rude the hostess and one waitress were, not to patrons, but to the other staff. We sat at the bar after the hostess told us she couldn't seat us at any table because she had a few reservations that were in over 2 hours. Then every time the one waitress came to the bar she was a complete jerk to the guys working at the bar. But it all tasted great.

My first visit to Char'd was well worth it! Started off with a warm Ginger Hot Toddy to wash down the beautifully grilled Perilla Avocado and topped it all off with the Beef Bulgogi dinner. I devoured it all! Definitely will be going back to Char'd to try the rest of the menu (and the drinks)

It came in a small cast iron pan thing (sorry, I'm not a chef, and not sure how else to describe it) rather than the usual Korean stonebowl. I got the spicy sauce, and it was delicious! I wish it came with more beef, but really can't complain. To be honest, I would probably order it without the beef next time and use the $3 on something else.

Jeff Steimle

Churro ice cream was a highlight. The braised pork belly literally melted in your mouth. Interior was trendy and modern. Small plates were excellent

Great place. Thoughtful and inspiring dishes, great flavors, and a cozy spot in general.

Korean small plates and ramen. Nice presentation, good food, mostly. Amazing bar service. One of the best for eats in the third ward.

Definitely great place and nice cuisine that does not sacrifice authenticity for originality. Management should consider reducing waiting time a bit.
