The manager of the establishment accommodated a large group of 16 people for a farewell party. Some grilled food on the table and a good number also ordered from the kitchen. I wanted The grilling experience as our friends from Korea highly recommended it. It was fun to do but I have always been a fan of the marinade for Korean bulgogi BBQ. The grilled meat was rather plane without seasoning. But that is tradition. There were sauces to dip into. My son ordered bulgogi and it was delicious. Everyone was pleased with their meals. Of course small plates of kimchi were also served. The staff was very friendly and this is truly authentic Korean restaurant. We will return.

MB Yang

Best Jjang pong! I tried so many places, and this is by far the best

Erik Carlsten

The food is fantastic! Definitely worth checking out if you love Korean food or kim chi!

Y HX

Food was okay. I've had better bibimbap at other Korean restaurants in town. Our server never came to check on us nor take away dishes that were done and there was only one other table that was occupied when we were there. The only time when she came, she was rude and condescending. She came over and just started cutting our beef up and telling us how to eat it as if we didn't know how to eat it. I told her that people have different preferences for eating beef. She said she understood but clearly she did not. If our friends from out of town were not here I would have said more things to this lady. Too bad these people still expected tips despite their attitudes. The disappointing thing is many of my Korean friends highly recommended this place, but quality of food will never make up for rude servers.

Nadya Laska

The most authentic Korean food in Madison. Really amazing food and kimchi, great side dishes.

Danielle Lorbeck

I’ve had four visits here in total and the food has been consistently awesome each time! Kimchi is on point, bulgogi meat is very thin with slightly sweet taste and good ratio of vegetables, sundubu jigae is wonderful, and all the appetizers have been out fast and hot. My favorite Korean restaurant in Madison! Only 4 stars because either our order getting taken or getting our check always takes a long time (also take out boxes have to be asked for).

William Beske

Got the breaded pork with Katsu sauce. And teriyaki chicken. Quite delish. All meals seem to come with sampler dishs of soup and other Korean sides

Lindsay Steckel

Very nice and helpful staff! This place has great food and good variety. It's a must try place to go

Jon Yoon

Hands down the best Korean food you can find around Madison. I've been to Sol's on the Square and Sujeo and this beats both out by far.

Liz Xiong

Nice friendly staff. Food was good and banchan was excellent! Staff offered pointers on grilling and portion sizes were excellent.

Jingyi Ziols

Very nice experience tonight. We brought our baby with us and the service is very nice, she brought a bowl of rice with seaweed soup for him. The food is really good and coming fast.

Susan Holtz

The 5 star Korean bbq on E washington ave just a block or s from the caitol. Easy to get to. Free parking on site . Authentic korean cooking and staff... very welcoming . Have not been open long so they are still getting organized with day to day issues ... like the day we were there I could not get any hot beverage ..it was freezing out and I wanted tea but had to settle for ice water! Food is excellent and portion sizes are huge. Prices are very reasonable. The traditional Korean appetizers arrived and were included in our meal price . Our meals arrived piping hot from the stove and very tastey. I will visit here again next time in Madison.

Mary Jo Walters

Service was rushed. Reservations are a must. Not kid friendly. Food good.

Adam Wunsch

Great staff, very good portions.

Trinity Vang

Has amazing food and the people working there is really friendly. The place is a friendly environment. Overall one of the best Korean restaurants I've been to.

Mee Lor

I tried their spicy soups and they were delicious.

paul theisen

Had two Korean dishes on our first visit; one of the soups and the beef. Both were very good. I am interested to try some things off the bbq menu next time!

John F

Ordered takeout at 5:40 tuesday night. It's 7:08 and food still isnt here. Horrible delivery service. I will never order from them again. I dont care how good the food is. If a restaurant cannot deliver in a timely manner, and when they promise, then they shouldnt deliver at all.

Rose Bongiovani

Food is fresh & amazing. Great service.

Thomas Griffith

Incredibly authentic and delicious food. This place truly is a 5 star Korean meal. Kind service and great food. Home made Kim-chi, and no MSG. Would absolutely recommend.

Alex Behrens

Food is adequate but nothing to write home about. It's missing something I can't put my finger on that would put it over the top.

Jerry Rojas

Good place to eat clean and affordable

Paj Thoj

All the food we ordered was great! The kimchi was just right. The ride cake appetizer was delicious. I don't think you can go wrong ordering whatever is on the menu. It is a bit pricey but I think worth it.

Bohan Xing

This cozy korean restaurant definitely served up some delicious authentic food. The manager is super friendly and their service is awesome! They have half the restaurant dedicated to KBBQ (sadly not all you can eat) and half normal tables for ordering dishes. We got the beef bulgogi and the seafood noodle soup, both of which were generously portioned and incredibly tasty! Would recommend coming here with a group!

Christopher Messer

I was so surprised to find such wonderful place for Korean food in Madison. I literally ate the same dish in Korea 2 weeks ago, this was better! Yes! I will be back a lot, and soon.

John Moon

Food is great and authentic, reminds me of my mother's cooking. Service can be slow when it's busy since they just opened and haven't hired a lot of people yet but the food is more than worth the wait.

Electric Raichu

I went here with my family on a trip this afternoon and had a fantastic time. The staff was prompt, polite and sociable. The waitress remembered my Aunt from a month ago and showed us how to assemble the side dishes alongside the meat and rice for an ideally flavorful bite. The beef plate was perfectly juicy; not soggy or dry. My first time visiting had me leaving with the feeling of visiting old friends and I highly recommend this resturant to any passersby!

T Postgarden

Some food just restores the soul. We needed good Korean food, and 5 Star delivered. The side dishes as well as the main dishes were generous and delicious. The kimchi is of course made from scratch, the food was MSG-free, and the staff was kind to us and helped us with our order.

Allison Foree

The food is great, and the staff is wonderful! Very pleasant and kind. I ordered the stone bowl bibimbap (rice, veggies, fried egg, and optional hot sauce in a piping hot bowl). It tasted just like Seoul. The dumplings are made on site, and there is ample banchan (side dishes). Awesome place to eat on a cold winter night.

Geena Yum

This was the worst service I ever received. My friend was visiting from New York so I was trying to show her that Madison has Korean restaurants too. What a mistake. The lady that served us was rude, condescending, and downright horrible. When we asked if there was meat (at 7 pm on a Thursday night) she said no in a rude, short way. What kind of Korean BBQ place stops serving meat on a Thursday night? When my friend asked for hot tea, she said no in a rude tone and walked away, laughing at her to her coworkers. When I asked if they had brown rice, she waved her hand 2 cm away from my face and shook her head continuously without even looking at me. She then proceeded to mock us with her coworkers AGAIN. She had a scowl the entire time we were there (~10 min). We just cancelled our order and left the restaurant because we couldn't eat in such an unfriendly environment.

Pat Patterson

Best Korean food in town. Not the fanciest, But for sure the best food of all the Korean Restaurants.

Ryan Cook

I've been here a few times now and I like it a lot. Their spicy pork is my favorite. The prices are fair and the owners are very friendly. 100% would recommend. Great restaurant.

Mimi Yang

Worst service I've ever experienced in my life! We had a group of 8. Waited over 2 hours and we didn't even get all our food! Cancelled a bunch of orders. The workers were rude and walked away when we were right next to them trying to talk to them. They don't even bother to ask, what's wrong.. or do we need something, and just kept on doing their own thing when we been standing up at the front for over 5 min. People that came after us were served food first. The dishes that we did get were not worth the price. Never going back again..

Angel Asombrado

Awesome place and service! I love this place

Katie Berberich

My favorite place for Bibmbop & bulgogi beef lunch box. The service is first class; prices are reasonable. Parking is limited, plan ahead-its worth it.

James Carnley

Fantastic short ribs

Ted Nightingale

Although it is a little pricey the food is very good.

Subhrangshu Nandi

The bi bim bap was great! the ingredients were fresh, the food was served quick, and the sauce was flavorful!

Foo Zhi Yuan

Best Korean food I ever have in Madison. Great service, awesome food. Highly recommended.

Mike Reisman

Definitely under staffed for a Saturday lunch. The 5 tables overwhelmed the 2 very sweet people working. Although, the 2 people argued and mixed up which food went to specific tables. Food was inevitably slow but delicious. There has been no updates in decor or facility since the BBQ vacated.

Ian J

I would get takeout from this place but I wouldn't come back to dine. Food was good--can't go wrong with grilled meat mixed with delicious sauce. However, other aspects of the experience could be improved. 1. Drinks should be served first. Instead, the drinks came out with the rest of the food leaving us sitting there for 15 minutes wondering if they forgot about our drink order. 2. Korean restaurants usually serve these little plates of kimchi and other pickled things. These should also come out once you've placed your order, like the bread at American or Italian restaurants, to give you something to work on while waiting for the food. This place brought them out with the rest of our entrees. 3. Ventilation. Grilling meat creates a lot of smoke. At one point we had three tables that were cooking meat at the table and the room was getting a bit hazy. The restaurant's solution for this was to prop open the door to the outside right next to the diners. It was 11 degrees out and the draft quickly chilled the room. Luckily we were near the end of our meal so we quickly got the check and left before we got too uncomfortable. 4. A few things came out towards the end of the meal. Seems like either they forgot or couldn't prep it in time. It was the rice, lettuce (to put the meat in), and these pickled turnip slices. I'm glad they brought them out and we got to try it. But we were almost finished eating at that point. 5. Overall, despite the place not being very busy (~40% of tables seated), it seemed like the staff were just overwhelmed.

Madeline Doon

Really pricy... $18 for one plate of bulgogi beef! For that price you'd expect a sizzling plate but the food was just kind of warm. The fried rice was really good, but really, way too pricy for okay service and a little more run down looking establishment.

Laura Zimmerman

Fantastic food and service. Everything is delicious, and the kimchi is house-made and exceptional. The building may not look like much from outside, but every visit has been well worth the awkward parking. Staff were happy to answer some questions about Korean food as well.

Min Ka Tan

Had lunch. Food was great, service wonderful as well.

Christopher Soria

Very authentic. Loved the PA jeon and the dol sot bi bim bop. They have cook tables as well.

Radha Kanchana Karthik

*I have never eaten here, the food might be amazing, but I am reviewing the service* I called to see if they were open (at 4:15pm) because their sign said that they were on a break until 4pm but still were not open. As a courtesy, I told them multiple people had turned away because they were unable to enter even after seeing the sign that they should be open, and the person on the phone interrupted me saying “ok, ok, ok, ok, ok, ok, ok” until I stopped talking and then hung up. I will likely never go to this restaurant because of this experience, and that’s sad because I was so looking forward to it after hearing positive feedback about their food. So if you care about service as much as your food, don’t go here.

Deborah Gil

Food is awesome and authentic! I have always had great service there. The servers work in a way like it is in Korea which is very hands-off-unless-called style, which can be disliked by people unfamiliar with it. But they know Korean food down pat, it's delicious.

Nate Volkman

Great food and service!

Sharon Li

Cold Noodle is very good. The kimchi is very tasty. I really like it! It was my first time having soju, Amazing, a pretty big bottle too. I didn't like the Ketsu very much, but the other ones are very good. A good spot to go to. BBQ seems to be pretty expensive, didnt try it.

Sarad Aryal

Good food and amazing service :) must go place for visitors

Tina Ly

Went when no one else was there until later in my dinner. Staff was alright, not terrible nor amazing. The food, however, was absolutely perfect. I'd definitely go back again because of the food. I recommend the tofu soups and the kimchijeon!

Dan Drake

Delicious authentic Korean!

Carl Jaske

Came at 13:45 on a Saturday so I can't speak to the rush hour crowd. The food was too delicious. I couldn't stop eating. There are, in fact, tables with grills as you would expect. Our servers were superbly attentive. I am completely in love with this establishment.

Jesse Anderson

Great food, great portions, great staff

Will Hare

Our waiter acted like our presence annoyed him, even though we were polite and the place was mostly empty. The BBQ meat is a horrible novelty that costs far too much considering you're the one doing the cooking. There are other Korean restaurant in Madison, don't bother with this one.

XeemVaj52

Drove 45 minutes from the Dells to try this restaurant. It was worth the drive. Friendly staff who greets you as you walk through the door. We ordered the japchae, bibimbap, and dang jang jigae. The side dishes were the best that I have ever had. It was fresh and still had that crunch, especially the kimchi. The korean soybean paste stew was excellent especially with the soft boiled egg in it. Not many korean restaurants put an egg in it. It was so good. Overall, a great experience.

Kaydee Hankes

Just moved to Madison from a town with a very big Korean population and I've learned how to cook a lot of the dishes myself from spending time in Korea and from Maangchi videos, so I'm a biiiit spoiled.... So my favorite part of going to restaurants for Korean food is just the variety of side dishes, because they tend to rotate and sometimes have unique spins on them! And while the side dishes here were absolutely delicious, they were lamentably stingy with the portions given, didn't offer to refill when we ate them all, and while I would've loved to have all refilled, I tried to be polite and ask for just the kimchi and one other to be refilled...and the refills were perhaps even tinier. This could have been a fluke and perhaps would change if we went back regularly to establish a report and demonstrate how happily we would pay/tip extra for generous side dishes, but the prices are already on the high side for me personally, since I happen to cook it at home pretty frequently. But for anyone unfamiliar with Korean cooking or lacking time to make it, this location will definitely be a delicious delight! Atmosphere is rather nice too. A good balance between open and authentic - not too cozy/quaint, not too ritzy/poised.

Richard Wan

only Korean place in the city unfortunately. food was pretty good and everything felt pretty typical of other Korean restaurants I've had. BBQ option limited to only 2 types of meats so don't come in here expecting Honeypig level Korean cuisine. my group was serviced by two waiters, one appeared to be the owner who was extremely encompassing and made sure our requests were fulfilled. The other is a waiter who looked extremely annoyed whenever we asked for water refill or the check. Until there's more competition for Korean cousins in Madison this is as good as it gets, which honestly isn't bad but not great either.

Edward Smith

Disclaimer: never had Korean food before. Ordered the soup for two. I loved it! The wife on the other hand, said it was ok. Service was great. They talked me through the menu and made recommendations. Very friendly. Just be aware that if you want BBQ, you must make reservations due to the limited number of tables/grills.

Stephen Kichak

Food was great! Bi Bim Bap and Spicy Cabbage with Beef soup were both excellent. We were provided Banchan (pickled appetizer) free of charge- I believe it is for everyone. Our meals were served in stone bowls which I didn't stir and the waitress made sure to come over after a few minutes to make sure I did so my meal didn't burn at the bottom. They are a equally delicious yet more affordable version of the other Korean restaurants in the surrounding area.

John Bender

After looking for an authentic Korean Restaurant the past 30 some years I finally found 1! Great food, worth the hour and a half drive. I'll be back for lunch and dinner every time I'm in Madison.

Mike Sullivan

Love this place! Best lunch in town!

Mrs. J Roth

Great food. The staff is always nice and they are sweet on my son. The food is consistent. Korean beef is so so good, if you haven't had any yet, you need to try. We go as often as we can.

Liz Haynes

Excellent food! I got the spicy tofu soon dubu jjigae and really enjoyed it. It's a smaller operation and the service we got was very friendly. The menu is long, varied, and does have no-meat options though I did not ask to confirm they were completely vegetarian in terms of broth/sauces. I am looking forward to going back!

John Wardale

Got take-out once, and plan to repeat. Price seemed a bit high until we discovered we had leftovers for a 2nd meal! The inside dining room looked like a GREAT option!

Christine Knox

great lunch, nice presentation

Todd Kraus

Wow. The food was awesome. Great service. My taste buds were doing flips. Meal also comes with side dishes. The Kimchi especially is really good. Clean restaurant and restroom. We will be back.

I had been here and thought the food was very good despite hearing numerous reviews on unfriendly staff, early closings, etc. This time I went with my mother and a colleague of hers. We arrived at 7pm or so and ordered our food. Then it went downhill from here. They brought my food, my mom's colleague's food, but even after 10-15 minutes, my mom's food never came. Our waitstaff walked by us numerous times, but was oblivious. We let her know and she seemed to have completely forgotten about it. It was served within 5 minutes which annoyed us because it could've been served much earlier. After putting that behind us, we enjoyed the food very much - especially the kimchi. Then we paid, and after leaving, we got a bank notice about an "excessive charge". Since they had already left the Madison area, they couldn't go back for a refund on the overcharge. update: Because my mother had left the Madison area, the credit card she used was sent to me and I personally went to the store to get a refund because they said "they need the card" the do a refund. Annoying, but understandable. So I went and after they discussed it for a bit, they said "the money has been all sent" and that there's nothing they can do. I asked about a gift certificate or cash or something as we overcharged a gross amount. They said they couldn't verify the overcharge which is not out of the question, but I didn't come here to dispute a made-up thing. Their unwillingness to resolve the complaint was extremely irritating and I still find it hard to believe that they put forth their best effort to help. It's a shame, but I cannot stand poor service. tl;dr Their food is quite good (a little expensive), but service always leaves something to be desired. I was overcharged, but they didn't take any measures to refund me. 0/10 chance of returning.

Jennifer Powers

Very yummy. So many options, it was hard to choose! The lunch box is a great, affordable option.

Caroline Chen

Absolutely delicious. This is one of the few places in town where you can find authentic Korean cooking. Try a bowl of bibim naengmyeon for the summer.

Pandafam1983

Excellent and authentic Korean food! I love the little side plates that you get with your order. The service has been great and the staff seem like they care! The last 2 times we've tried to visit they were closed for holiday (the week of the 4th of July) and now for remodeling. Hopefully they spruce up the place as it was a little outdated. But nevertheless, the food was wonderful! Can't wait to go back!

Lor Lor

If you think this place is good, you haven't had real good kbbq(Korean barbeque). Server was a little too efficient. I'm more use to just cooking the meat myself. Didn't like how the server brought out the check so fast and after signing the receipt, she grabbed it right away. Very low portion for what we've paid for, for the two plates (beef and pork). Note: Came by on a Tuesday evening around 5 pm. I it's 5:40 when we left. Felt like I just left a fast food joint. Definitely DON'T recommend this place & NOT coming back.

Yuun Murphy

Really solid Korean food for the price. Pleasantly surprised at portion size as others have mentioned. The egg rolls seemed more Chinese style than the Korean style my mother and aunts used to make. Good value, good food, service is so-so. I had no service problems but could see what others are talking about happening under busier circumstances. Would give it 4.5 overall value-wise but I always round up.

Marissa Jensen

Went there once and thought the food was great, went back on a busier night and the food and service were awful. We gave them the benefit of the doubt and ordered carry out. The meat wasn't cooked and when I called for a refund they said they wouldn't refund it unless I brought the meat back. We will not be going there again.

Aki Yoo

I am surprised to find Authentic Korean restaurant in Madison. I never thought I'd be able to eat Jjajangmyun here. Thank you for the wonderful food and side dish! I really enjoyed. Just that 5$ delivery fee is a pain. 맛있게 먹었습니다!

Nhi Ho

Great food, cozy atmosphere and friendly staffs. They have so many options for food, everything is fresh and quickly served, even when it was busy, they were nice and tried to do their best. They need more staffs, however. But overall, awesome place! Will definitely come back!

Erik Michalsen

Awesome food. Kinda pricey but worth it.

Mike Majer

Good food good service

John Vang

Decent food, good portion, abit pricey, and when after we paid our bill, they looked at our table, asked and begged (kinda forced) to leave a tip when we waiting 15 minutes before even getting the waiter to come take our order. I would prefer going to a close mcds or something.

Linda Yamben

Absolutely love the bipinbop. I can't get enough.

Andrew Stiegmann

Oh man is nice to finally have a legit Korean restaurant in downtown Madison. Food was fantastic with lots of items to choose from. Service was slow since they are understaffed. But will totally come. back

Jay Chu

Super friendly. Great food. Made me feel very welcome

Holly Dahl

Update... quality has gone down a bit since last... the food we originally ordered has changed, it is no longer made from scratch like it was 8+ months ago. A lot if the items you can actually get pre-frozen from the Korean market. Quite sad truthfully, because I used to love the food simply for that fact. I can understand why, they did charge quite low and their portions were enough to feed a family of 5 per entree... If only they went back to their original delish method, cut down the portions and adjust the price to keep their business in the green they qould beat all of their competition... 3 stars because I know their potential "Delish Authentic Korean food... Healthy portions... There are only two older Korean women who run the show... Patience is key and it totally worth the wait... You seriously can not get food like this here in Madison. The weekends can be hectic wait wise, but before you become too overly critical try them during the week... Keep up the magic ladies! Blessings

David Duncan

This place had a rocky start, with weeks of "grand opening" before actually opening, so I wasn't in a hurry to try it out. When I finally did, I was surprised by how good the food was. We got a generously sized and well done kimchi pancake. I went for the bibimbop in the stone bowl. It had a wider variety of ingredients and textures than I've had before, which was great. It came out the right "sizzling, too hot to touch right away" temperature and was overall delightful. My generally picky friend declared it like eating at one of her (Korean) aunts', which puts it a step up from the nearby Sol's.

Lucas Bannister

Great bibimbap, the woman who served me was very friendly, as well

Claire Chung

i had bibimbob on hot stone bowl. that was fantastic! our waitress was nice too.

Brian Buffington

Everything was so good!! Definitely making this a usual spot.

Ilkyu Ju

Foods they serve here are very authentic and tasty. I really enjoy coming here. The only downside is that the two korean ladies(maybe sisters?) who cook and serve food here are way too 'Korean' that someone who is not aware of Korean culture may consider them rude. But personally I like it because they bring me back to memories of my home.

Dylan Beschoner

5 stars for the food. -1 star for being closed twice during "open" hours.

Taylor Scott

They do not listen to instructions. I ask them always to leave out the plastic forks and spoons and they always leave it in the order for delivery or takeout.

Saiah Lee

I'm very very glad that I found this authentic Korean resturant in Madison. This is the most authentic Korean restaurant in Madison. I didn't expect to find this great Korean restaurant in town. I had jajang-myeon and galbi-tang, and they were real Korean food! I want to try other things! Ajuma was kind and nice. She was like my aunt.

Katherine Sobol

Food was excellent, if slightly on the pricy side. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Isaac

I've been to Seoul in South Korea, so I have a pretty good feel for authentic Korean. I don't know about their other dishes, but the BBQ dishes that are cooked at your table are fantastic. We had the beef brisket and pork belly. Felt like I was right back in Korea when eating this food. The side dishes are definitely some of the best I've had when compared to the other Korean restaurants in Madison - the kimchi in particular. Had 3 refills of that alone. I thought it kind of strange that they circled the 20% on the receipt for the tip calculation. I guess they had some experience with people not giving much based on a couple below reviews. When we came here we got excellent service and the server did a great job helping cook the meat. It wasn't very busy though (Sunday supper time).

Pranav Sawant

Says it closes at 10, been once at 8:30 and once at 8:00; they said they’re closing the first time and said no BBQ the second time. The lady told me to come a little early next time when I told her we got turned away the first time. Change the damn closing time officially then. I’ve never been this pissed at a restaurant. I went here specifically after I was craving for some Korean BBQ, drove 30 minutes, to get turned away. TWICE!

Tom B

Really like this place The staff are friendly and the food is excellent. Highly recommend if you're interested in trying Korean food.

Dale Forsch

Pretty good, great staff. Food is sometimes a little slow and eccentric. But always a treat

Julia Katz

Only place in Madison with in table BBQ! Best in Madison!

Jon Augelli

Went here with my father, and my step-Grandpa who is from Korea. He thinks it's the most authentic place in Madison. I definitely enjoyed it. The deukboki were delicious. He had the cod soup, my father had the sea food soup, and I had a spicy noodle dish with beef. All were delicious. The portions were generous; none of us could finish all our food. The staff was very friendly as well. I highly recommend!

Tim Ri

If you're looking to get fix of actual korean bbq, this is the place! They have the metal hot plates that we associate with real kbbq. The food is delicious especially the bulgogi which, to say the least, is the best in madison. The staff is extremely friendly but the wait time can be a bit long during their normal hours.

Jack C

This restaurant is just a joke. The food is so bad and not clean at all. We have been waiting for 1 hour and nothing comes. The waitress speaks very poor and not understandable English. They won't want to serve at all.

rebecca milne

I was so excited to stop here when i went to Madison and it was closed the website said open and there were about 5 other cars that pulled in while we were there. very disappointed

Brian Kane

The fish egg soup is really good. I also like the seafood pancake. Love all the side dishes too. This is really good Korean food period, not just for Madison.

Yijun Gui

Seems like this place is closed.... for the past three weeks, I checked in three times during their business hour but it was always closed.

M H

I was working near by and decided to give this place a try. The staff was friendly and attentive. I ordered the Kim chi and pork dumplings fried, and some fried rice. They brought extra sides with my meal. The dumplings were delicious but very hot ( I'm a baby with spicy foods). The fried rice was flavorful without being overly powerful, very refreshing.

Clyde W

Literally Nobody is going to serve you when you enter the restaurant. No appetizers served, no one asking whether you are ok with the meal. Order checked, they still miss serve some dishes. I think the main reason is that their boss changed over summer.

chee Thor

Disappointed. We went in as a group. Asked to be sitted for barbque however the waitress was not to fond to allow us. We asked again she was still hesitant to direct us there -- we just went ahead and sat ourselves down and got menus and then she finally came to take our order. The barbeque food was not worth the money it was $20 a plate but very small. The waitress forgot our drink order and also another of our dishes. We finally told her to please cancel and don't charge us for we order. Don't waste your time. This was our first time and will be our last. Nor do we recommend this place.

Billy Mosner

Delicious, delicious food and wonderful, kind service. I can't wait to go back.

Conrad Szambelan

Terrible terrible terrible! Everything about the experience there yesterday was terrible. From the fact that it took two hours for them to slow roll out the food one entrée at a time and then to bring the appetizers in the middle of that. The waitstaff was nonexistent the food was marginal at best. And then to top it off the bill was $85 for four people. Run do not walk away from this place.

Rich Eggleston

Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I thought restaurant reviews should be based on food, service, ambiance, not on the alleged behavior of some employees of another restaurant who may or may not be associated with the restaurant being reviewed. That said, my sole experience with the 5 Star Korean BBQ was delightful, with friendly, attentive staff and a tasty entree and accoutrements. I can't wait to return and sample more of the menu (a review should delve into the menu, not labor-management relations, right?) so I can give a full review.

Hridindu Roychowdhury

God bless this establishment. 5 star is a very accurate moniker.

Jairo Medrano

Friendly staff and super delicious food. Our waitress was enthusiastic, checked on us regularly and was very nice to my baby brother. The serving sizes were quite generous on what my family and I ordered. It's a bit pricey but you get good value out of your money. One thing I should note is the food did take longer to arrive than I would have liked (as some other reviewers have mentioned) but I'd rather have delicious food that takes longer to prepare than have quickly made food that's sloppy and unappetizing. Overall the restaurant is nice, has a nice vibe, pleasant staff, delicious food and I would recommend it if you can overlook waiting.

Food was amazingly good! The only korean restaurant that you can grill your own food. My go to place 3x a time to get my korean fix!

Great food and staff! Loved the Kimchi Fried Rice!

K. Marie Kim

We had take out Soon Dubu (seafood soft tofu soup), fried mandu dumplings, and tofu bibimbop. All dishes were authentic and delicious! And the staff was very kind and took care to pack everything well.

I've heard that this restaurant is changing to ramen restaurant at the beginning of July. I am not pretty why does the restaurant is trying to change as ramen place. There are tons of ramen place on State Street, so I would go there instead of coming to here. Korean restaurant has more specialty than other food I feel lol

Supanan Lee

KBBQ is quite pricey for the amount/quality of meat you get.

Shoua Chang

It was pretty good, until the owner or possibly a worker decided we were not cooking our food well enough and decided to cook for us. Some of our party liked beef fully cooked, others liked it rare but she just cooked everything the way she thought it should be cooked.

Shawn M

Great bday i had here, hostess screamed at my wife how she was wrong in front of a full restaurant. Bulgogi had no sauce and looked like it was boiled instead of grilled. She had random customer come over to eat off my wife's plate to prove she was wrong. His face said it all but she bullied him into agreeing. Then she wanted us to pay for it. Was my favorite Korean restaurant, sadly I'll never go here again and encourage you not to as well.

Bill Huntington

Loved this place great food just a heads up thier is parking but can be tricky to find their parking lot is located right off the corner of a very busy intersection

Kyle Ferris

The most authentic Korean food you will find in Madison.

David Kruse

That food was outstanding. I'm a newbie to Korean food, but went with a friend born and raised in Koreatown in LA. He testified to the food's authenticity, and I'll testify to it's downright deliciousness. Yes, the interior needs a few finishes, and the wait staff was just a bit in the slow side (but they made up for that in being very warm and friendly), but when I review a restaurant, it's all about the food, and tonight, 5 Star lived up to its name. Got the kimchi pancake, bul go ki pork, and the budae jigae. Unbelievable.

Odysseas

Really love this place and the owners are very nice. Great food.

Christel Fis

Didn't know that most of the food was spicy. My favorite was the fried vegetable dumplings and chicken teriyaki?

I'm not sure if there was an issue in the kitchen or staffing on Sunday 10/13/19 but it wasn't open at 11:30AM. If you can't open, at least put a sign out that you won't be open

John Czajka

Awesome food, my wife says the kimchi is just like her mom used to make. Service can be lacking some days but the food is so good it will always keep us going back.

Ziwei Wang

It was a weird experience since the waitress seemed to be helpful, but was also very rude and condescending at the same time... The food was pretty nice though.

Corinna Zennig

Meh. I did not do the table BBQ but had Bibimbab. Not the best I've had in Madison. Service was slow, although very friendly. Would not go out of my way but if I wanted takeout close by, sure.

Yiyue Huangfu

We went there on Sunday for lunch. We ordered Kim chi pancake and beef & octopus hot pot for 2. The food was very good, especially the beef in the hotpot. The service was generally good, though a little bit slow.

Briana H

Authentic taste but I didn't like it enough to justify the price. Service was good and the dishes came out very quickly.

Chantill Hamric

Excellent food and customer service

Ngô Trâm Anh

Awesome food ,super friendly ! But a little bit hot in there. Will be comming back.

Amy Yang

The food and service definatley exceeded my expectations. All the servers were very quick to help and the food I came out very fsst. The place definatley had an authentic Korean feel to it. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to enjoy great flavors, great service, and a great time. I will for sure continue coming.

JUNX Choi

only good korean food in Madison? maybe there are others but i dont know...

Phil Ng

This was wonderful, food was delicious. The only downside is when you come in it does have a fermented odor that you have to get used to. Staff attentative.

Michael mccandless

Very good stobe bowl bibimbip

Holly Romaniak

Went for Korean BBQ - had a great experience with very kind staff helping to cook the meat. It was busier than I expected on a Friday night! 5/5

Wilmari Laureano

Closed on a Saturday Oct 12, 2019 at 8:20 pm. Called to ask if they were open and no one answered.

Stephanie Merrill

The menu looked fantastic. I had called the day before to ask about bringing a birthday party. They said it was fine and took my name. When I got there, I was rudely pushed out the door and told that they were closed even though they should have been open for another hour. The lame excuse was that they had run out of food. What was the sense of taking down my name for a birthday party, and then not planning for it?

Larry Buza

BBQ in the name, but no Korean BBQ in the house. Was really looking forward to some kalbi but at 6:30 on a Saturday the waiter said that they weren't serving any. The substitute dishes we ordered weren't terrible but weren't exactly authentic either. Most seemed tuned to perceived American tastes as they were overly sweet.

If you're looking for a good Korean place to eat, this is it. The food is always phenomenal, and you get many sides along with large portions for a reasonable price. On the other hand the service leaves a little to be desired. They aren't rude but they can be a little forgetful even when there are only a couple customers. So expect to spend a little more time there.

Dr. Joel Cooper

Unique tasty food.

Marc Reisner

I had the kimchi fried rice. I was expecting mediocre food, but they gave me a traditional kimchi fried rice meal, and the portions were huge. They also included the usual Korean appetizers even though I was just doing take out.

Eric Stevens

A bit expensive for the quality. It's decent but I wouldn't go out of my way to get it. Really just good for convenient food if you live really close by.

Ryan Blane

Very friendly staff, food was excellent.

Stephanie Lee

Great Korean food that was comparable to Korean food I'd had in California. I shared the Bim Bim Bab and Jah Jan Myung with my boyfriend and both were superb and the ingredients were very fresh. The flavor was exceptional and the service was fast! The "tasty train" (the side dishes that come with traditional Korean meals) was also delightful, and made fresh and in-house by the chef. They have hibachi tables and do bulgogi and pork belly BBQ at your table -- we'll be back to try that. Plenty of parking out back and lots of seating inside.

Tim Roever

This place is amazing! So nice to have a place like this in Madison! Id give 10 stars if i could! My mother is from Korea so i grew up with a lot of this food! Thank you for your great service and making sure my daughter was nice and feed.

Hwui Won Kim

Real Korean Food!! Tasted fantastic!! Loved it

Noah

Decent food but terribly slow service took 2+ hours for two people to get food. .

Mike Mishkin

The service may be slow, but the staff are enthusiastic and the food was excellent

Peter Hessell

Great food and friendly staff. This spot is just outside the Capitol busy area.

Jennifer Yang

I will say this is the best place to get Korean food. It is pricey but it’s because their aren’t many Korean places in Madison, keep that in mind. It is slow here but they make it from scratch which gives it a great homemade taste. If you want to try something amazing get the yukgaejang, it’s beefy stew with glass noodles. All the other Korean places are flavorless, in my opinion or they’re fusion. If you want good homemade korean food you should give this place a try. When you go make sure you have time and I wouldn’t recommend going for lunch. It is a bit of a splurge but you’re getting side dishes too and don’t be afraid to try them all.

Christopher Yue

Decent food, nice staff. I hope they stay open! We had a pork bone soup with potatoes and Bibimbap. Will try grilled goods next time.

Destiny Thao

Great food and atmosphere! Very welcoming and authentic.. until my group were going to pay. We asked to pay separately but instead, were yelled at by a very rude employee for not telling them beforehand. They then asked for the people in our group that were paying with card to go ahead and pay first. The cashier then asked for the rest of us that were paying with cash, to pay altogether (even though we asked to pay separately) to make things easier on the her. So we went along and we all payed our dues, however the lady told us that we had still owed $35 more. So we asked if she had marked off the ones that had payed with card on the original receipt. And she claimed that she had. After multiple calculations, it was obvious that the $35 that we still had left was from the two people that had already payed with card. However she wasn't giving in. They were ripping us off completely and so very rude! This experience has been terrible, I doubt I'll go back again.

Sean Grady

Very good, but maybe slightly on the pricy side for what is served. Worth a visit!

Madarakunn

Food was okay but they want a lot of tip and food was very expensive. Would not recommend.

I just wish they had a better menu for barbecue
