Nowadays this firm has a score of 3.9 stars over 5 and the rating has been calculated on 263 reviews.
As you can read, the average score it has is quite positive, and it is founded on a large number of scores, so we may think that the evaluation is quite faithful. If many people have bothered to rate when they've done well with the service, it works.
As you know, we don't usually stop to write evaluations when they are correct and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Restaurant corresponds to the category of American restaurant.
So good! Tasted the crabcakes, ribs & vegetarian pasta. Could not be better. Servers were friendly, $ was very reasonable and atmosphere was super relaxing. Drove from Frederick & it only took 30 minutes to get there. Easy to find & plenty of parking. Wish I had known about this place years ago, but I will go back!
Cozy atmosphere. Steak was good with mashed potatoes and green beans. Wings are smoked along with barbecue special. Ribs were a little dry. Good Mac and cheese. Decent.
I know we are in Harper's Ferry and the dining options are limited, but I was sorely disappointed. We ordered water and it was cloudy and sweet, which is something I've never experienced in any restaurant before--let alone in one where my bill came out to $68 for 2 people without drinks. We ordered the scallops and the bourbon chicken breast, which both came with potatoes and steamed broccoli and cauliflower. Both the chicken and the scallops were overdressed in sauce. The steamed vegetables were indistinguishable from steamable vegetables that you can buy at any grocery store. The food was edible, but the price point and quality just don't align. I'd just like to warn any future customers that they can all cook something much better than this themselves and save a chunk of change.
The atmosphere is warm and nice the food was also amazing, if we have a chance, we will definitely visits it again! :)
Good food, decent prices, friendly service, historic floors tricky in subdued lights. Staff warned us about steps. But crab cakes were probably 95% crabmeat, nice surprise.
Food, atmosphere and service was really. A little pricey for the portions.
Great meal great price excellent service Salmon was excellent.
Loved their Ribeye. Seasoned just right.
Really suggest eating here ,amazing food !
One of the best restaurants in the entire region! Really. I am from this area and was pleasantly surprised by the food, the service-Destiny was great!!! They have outdoor seating too! Parking in Harper's Ferry is usually a big pain in the ass, they have plenty of parking and within walking distance from downtown HF. YOU GOTTA GO!
The food was outstanding as was the service... We had lunch in the Pub area and so it wasn't nearly as nice as the restaurant, but it was local fare... I would eat here again!
Great food and great service!
The service was very good.. the food was very good. We had 2 of the specials one was cheese raviolis with sausage spinach mushrooms beans and peppers sauce ...the other was a steak topped with crab ceviche both meals came with salads. The steak came with mashed potatoes and green beans. We both had soup he had french onion and I had the tortilla soup . I also had dessert which was strawberry short cake layer in the evening. My drink was an Italian martini. It was a great evening out with fantastic food
3 hours to get the special.
One of the best restaurants in the Harper's Ferry area. Great food and service. Reasonably priced and very customer-friendly. Highly recommended.
Since I am not in the area most days due to work, I have missed the opportunity to eat locally. But due to a day off, my wife and I had lunch at the Anvil Restaurant. When we looked at the menu it had several things that were appealing. But when the waitress told us about the smoked pork barbecue (the smoker was out front), we tried it. Really good. Intimate and local, not a chain restaurant. I recommend that you try it out. If you want DC sophisticated restaurant, then this is not your place. But since that is not what I want, I think it is great.
Fantastic food and even better service! (Thank you, Sue! My family and I had a great time!)
The food was decent the service was not good at all. It was understaffed and intended to leave people ignored waiting for drinks or with empty plates on the tables.
WOW.... Great Lunch, we really loved it.
The shrimp/bacon/jalepeno appetizer wasn't that good, but the fried green tomato BLT was incredible
Went there for the first time with a company party and really enjoyed the food. The place is loaded with atmosphere and a friendly staff. If you're ever in Harper's Ferry, WV, be sure to stop in.
Wonderful fair for casual lunch or upscale area for a wonderful Dinner.
Average food. Setting is awkward, dark and sun-like, but oddly intimate in the back. Service is average.
Best dinner we've paid for in a long time!
Happy hour good value. Food good.
Slow service and really bland food. Good food can make a bad server experience forgotten. Unfortunately, I cannot add good food to the list.
Good food. Enjoyable atmosphere.
Great food and super service
My wife and I had wonderful evening dinner at the Anvil. The entire meal was great and our waiter was very attentive. When you are in Harpers Ferry, stop in at the Anvil.
Good food, great historic location
Very critical review alert: It is a super cute place with a cozy atmosphere, but food was just mediocre at best and the manager on shift was just very intrusive to the interaction between the server and I. We didn’t need anyone to butt in with shouts from across the bar. It was just weird, but the sever was very kind, presentable, and had excellent customer service on her part. We ordered the crab dip (wasn’t on the menu which was confusing even though it’s advertised as the special on google). It came out in the smallest iron skillet with less than inch of dip, which for $12 is just unreasonable in my opinion. Then we ordered the vegetable pasta - would NOT recommend. Save your $9 and go make it at home because it’s bascially just spaghetti noodles in water with some vegetables. I though it would at least have flavor, but it was extremely bland. After adding a ton of salt, it was at least appetizing in some way. I wouldn’t recommend this place for anyone wanting a delicious meal unless you are drunk and just need food.
Harper's Ferry location up the hill on the right. Great place for lunch with a local flavor
My husband n I will never get to try the so called wonderful food at the anvil because after being sat in a dark corner and waiting 22mins for anyone to acknowledge us, we put our coats on and left. Horrible service will not recommend it to anyone. Never before have we been to a place of business that didnt give a damn about their customers. If just getting served a glass of water was to much to ask for I'm sure we are not missing anything with their food! DO NOT BOTHER GOING HERE!
Could be a big draw! Wonderful atmosphere, it's just missing that "something"
Good, friendly service. Interesting atmosphere; my midwestern wife noted it was like a supper club. It would seem many of the negative reviews were not expecting to be this far from DC in terms of their dining experience. Don't let that dissuade you, the food was good-the crab dip in particular (great sourdough bread), and the NY strip with blue cheese was excellent. As noted before the wine and beer selection is quite good. All told it was a very nice date night for us, with the added benefit of sitting next to the Union Army (a group of reenactors). Who can argue with that?
Great place. Accommodating. Good menu & service..
Awesome pulled pork sandwich. They smoke their own meats!
Nice Restaurant! Good food and Atmosphere.
Nice Bolivar/Harper's Ferry local eatery and bar. Many different beers and the best pulled pork sandwiches around. Very reasonably priced.
Okay food. Beer was flat. Odd vibe with lotto screens running on the TV, and a back room video slots. Limited lunch menu.
The hen with the mushroom sage sauce topped with crab was excellent.
Food was good and hearty. More expensive than you'd expect but was good. We were on foot so choices were few.
So under rated! We drove around for an hour in this general area looking at restaurants for seafood that were rated higher...they were awful and we thought we would have to drive the rest if the way on our trip (3+ hours) and have a very late dinner. Decidiced to go 0adt Anvil and so lucked out!!! Food was fantastic! Amber, out waitress, was also amazing, atmosphere was perfect. We will stop here every time we are passing through. Highly recommended!
There is great food available for lunch or dinner in a cozy pub or more formal dining room. The crab cakes are the best around but don't ignore the specials, which are always interesting. Friday evenings with live music are a favorite with my friends and a lot of neighbors and town visitors. I've had private parties in the side room too and was very happy.
The Anvil is a very unfriendly place. My large family and I went there to eat lunch. No one was there to seat us. The waiters ignored us and were rude too. So we left and none of the staff said anything. In conclusion, I don’t recommend this restaurant for large groups and children.
Great atmosphere! Small menu! Ok service
Quaint, friendly place! Great service and excellent food!! Loved Sue!!
Great place, great staff, great food. walked from our airbnb. My wife enjoyed the half a hen and an old fashion as well as the lovely bottle of bordeaux they had on hand.
Crab cake sandwich is excellent. Sides are a la carte and pretty good. Prices are reasonable. Busy time must be later than the lunch hour my party was there as service was slow to get going.
It's just okay. The food was bland and boring. The floors were sticky. Nothing special about this place. If you're staying nearby and need a quick bit, but want to avoid the busyness of lower Harper's Ferry, then this place will do... otherwise, save your money.
Excellent food. Nice atmosphere.
Loved the Maryland crab soup and the salmon. The crab dip wasn't very good but I don't have high expectations outside of Annapolis. Good service.
Food is very good. Walnut Chicken was delicious.
Their lunch was OK but not great. I thought it was overpriced for the quality of the food.
Great atmosphere, food was fantastic. First time here will definitely be back. Highly recommended.
Fantastic Service...Get a Steak or Trout ! fairly priced menu & a full bar.
Delicious food, wonderful service
Great place ,nice atmosphere friendly staff.
Classic worn-wood bar-restaurant exudes the spirit of this historic town. Delicious food, quick friendly intelligent service.
Crab Cakes are wonderful. Good server!
What a great place to eat at, when ever you are around Harpers Ferry stop in .
Excellent setting and service. A trip to Harper's Ferry is not complete without stopping by The Anvil.
Great food and service, period. People are too snarky with negative comments and perhaps have never worked in "The Arena" of food service. We visit this place without fail, a minimum of 4 times per year as its a peaceful afternoon drive from Centreville, VA. Keep up the great work!
Nice place. Decent burger and seasoned fries were tasty but wings well overdone and dry. Slot area dirty and smelled of smoke.
We stopped here after a day of tubing. We were pretty hungry and this place did the job. A friend got ribs which were very good. I had a surprisingly good steak. The Mac and cheese side was pretty fantastic.
Food was amazing!
Overall, really good food. I had the pulled pork which was excellent. Wife had a chicken dish with pasta that was also nicely put together and was great. Only downside and I hate to do it because the lady was so nice but service is the culprit here. The server forgot to put in my wife's order. She ended up eating her soup while I ate my sandwich, then the pasta came out. Just write down the order or repeat it back and problem solved. Overall though, great little place, check it out.
Very disappointed with this visit. Service was poor and management made no apologies.
Excellent experience the food was outstanding and the hospitality made us thankful we stopped in we are looking forward to our next visit
Nice PC of meat but they way over salted it
Brussels sprouts appetizer was the best!!
I will never set my foot at this place again. If you are a person of color think twice before entering. You will get cold looks, no greeting and no one will even bother to tell you how long the wait is. Even after you get the table, no one will bother to take your order. I had my 2 kids with me (2 year old and 7 yr old) and this was the most unwelcoming place for my family. We just got up an left this place to find much better white horse tavern (what a lively place) just a mile away.
I welcome location in a strange land! We must have hung out at this place for three hours! It's very comfortable, the food was very good. I didn't miss the celery in the Bloody Mary, because it was so damn good!
Good food good service.
Please avoid this place. 1 star for ambiance, that's it. Five of us went for Sunday lunch. The Crab cake sandwich was an awful little frozen thing served on an enormous bun, but tasted horrible. The Hamburger tasted as if reheated from the day before, nasty. The Crab salad had maybe a tablespoon of crab on it, total rip-off. Both Ruebens had meat of very low quality and had a funky taste (probably old), and the 'grilled' bread was soggy. Both were gross. The few onion rings served in our order were soggy and greasy. Overall it was an absolute terrible experience. When I notified the waitress of our unhappiness, she said she'd tell the manager and promised that the food is normally excellent. Then she promptly returned to tell me that the manager was giving the cooks a good talking to, and handed me the bill. What the?!? Would have been nice for the manager to come talk to us and take something off the bill, but he didn't seem to care enough. I would NEVER go there again and recommend that you don't either. It's a kitchen nightmare that needs Chef Ramsay. It's a place that needs to be put out of its misery. The water was good, though.
Awesome homemade chips..
Excellent prawns and scallops in Thai style.
Best restaurant in Harper's Ferry by far. Excellent menu and they know how to do a real Martini!
Popped in for lunch and we were stunned. Food was awesome. Large crowd was there so it was a little slow to serve and staff apologized up and down. We were in no hurry and were totally surprised by the food. Shrimp boil and smoked chicken were terrific.
Great food ,friendly staff and even private room for Wedding reception.
Very disappointing this time. Our server forgot about us, never checked on us. We had to get her for the bill. My vegetarian dinner mate couldn't get something to eat as the chef was unwilling to accommodate us when ordering.
If there's a half star choice...I went there last weekend and was supposed to meet a friend afterwards. After ordering food, I waited for a good 30 minutes which basically made me late. The worst part is that cucumber in the salmon salad had MOLD on the surface and it's getting black towards the center. It looked like having got burnt but come on it's salad and all vegetables are raw. I've already run out of time so couldnt ask for a new one. The waitress just took that off the bill. Will definitely not coming back again. I also regret being in such a hurry that forgot to take a picture of it.
Nice atmosphere. Our waiter, was super friendly and attentive. We had a nice, long evening dinner outside on the front patio where our dogs sat with us. The Woo Woo martinis were delicious but weak. I’m giving three stars because the food was extremely over priced. They charge big city prices without the taste or presentation. Their price point is completely off. The crab dip was not crabby, the trout was meh, and the rib eye was super fatty. Still a nice evening out. But not worth the $$$.
One of the best places around for fresh seafood, and classic American dinners. Attentive staff that work hard to take good care of the patrons. On weekends there's usually live music at least one night. And with a full bar, outdoor seating, a beer garden, and sports televisions, this place is equipped for every occasion.. for two, and for the family!
Very good food in a clean well decorated place.
The Chef made me the best salmon I've ever eaten. I love the people who work here and the owner is like family to me.
Had a good meal and a wonderful time. Worth the stop in Harper's Ferry
Ribeye and trout entrees very good! Casual dining and good service too!
Delicious, nice atmosphere. Cheeseburgers were great.
Been there many times. Staff are helpful and friendly. Food is better than average with very good crab soup and burgers. Nice atmosphere.
Great food all fresh made. But don't go in a hurry because they do food right. Make sure you have time for a few beers.
Very good meal.
Racist place. The bartender lady was rude and probably was upset working there. She made us wait for over 15 min even though restaurant was half empty. Didn't bother directing us to the table. At the table, I asked for a high chair and she didn't get it for the next 15 min. No one stopped at our table. We finally just left. I am surprised this racist place is still running. With amazing places like White Horse tavern around, they won't be much around with such poor customer service and racism seeping on faces especially the lady bartender. Other people after us with not brown skin got seated immediately. Seriously guys, change. It is not okay to behave such though you are in an old town.
Enjoyed this meal! They had the smoker going out front. Would definitely go back if I'm in the area.
Great friendly place...enjoyed our visit!
Great food, simple and cozy atmosphere. Steak was cooked perfect and the salmon is likely their best dish. Service was basic and what to be expected. Lottery and gambling also available here.
Decent food.
Very lovely waitress. Food very good. Atmosphere very good.
We detoured through Harper's Ferry on our return trip from W. Maryland...hoping to stick our toes in the water and get a bite to eat. Being a holiday weekend, it was PACKED! We were super hungry and not in the mood for crowds.....so we landed at The Anvil since it was a bit off the beaten path from the center of town. We were sure glad we did. Got the last 2 orders of Peach-Habanero Smoked BBQ Half Rack of ribs with baked mac 'n' cheese and broccoli salad. I will be thinking about this dish for a LONG time. The kiddo got the Bourbon Walnut Chicken with a sage cream sauce, rice and steamed veggies...also delightful. Friendly service, attentive and comfortable atmosphere. As for some comments about the lottery/keno push...we saw the cards on our table but there was no tv on that had keno showing so it's not a big deal. We'll be back and we'll tell friends!
My favorite place to visit dear friends and have a great meal! The atmosphere and the service is outstanding!
Good restaurant for family or couples ,alcohol served, good food . Ample parking too.
Service was good, building is cool, the food was terrible. Can't believe how bad it was given the ratings. Skip it.
$26 for a ribeye cut so thin that it curled up into a bowl shape. Was surprised that it was actually cooked medium rare being cut so thin. Definitely not the cut pictured in other reviews. Tasteless mashed potatoes. Wife had pretty mediocre pasta with vodka sauce. We had just been given our salads when both the appetizer and entree came out at the same time so entree was pretty cold when we got to it. The waitress was very nice but the kitchen was not on their game for a Saturday night. Way overpriced for the food quality. Much better options in the area.
Nice Aviance but a little pricey
It was very hot inside. The specials board at the door was from the day before and everyone was planning on ordering something off of it only to find out none of it was actually available. It was smoky in the dining room and the smoke detectors kept going off. Chairs, tables, menus and bathrooms felt dirty. There were a lot of flies. The service was very slow and not that friendly. The food actually ended up being pretty good but I wouldn't ever go back
Food is good. Service was very slow. Took awhile to get our order, and food. Even after the food was served we needed to wait 10 minutes for our silverware. Atmosphere was nice outside. Pleasant evening. Just do not be in a hurry.
Wasn't life changing, but was good. Nothing wrong, but the city water. Food was good, service was fun.
This is an interesting place - felt somewhere between a dive bar and a nice restaurant. The menu is not extensive, but the beer, wine, and liquor selection is fantastic - broad yet local. Service was fast and the food good. I had the dinner special of West Virginia trout with cooked beans and a salad. I'm on the fence for three or four stars, but overall the experience was positive - something felt off with the atmosphere. I see this place as a great watering hole.
Great, very accommodating to our family this am. Food/ SERVICE was excellent. Crab cake was good too.Thank you. B Ashbrook
A little pricey for the food quality. Ambiance is rustic and cabin like in the pub, a little bit lighter in the fine dinning area. Simple menu that makes it easy to choose, but too simple for my taste.
Was my first time there. I sat at the bar and the lady bar tending basically ignored me however there was a redhead girl also sitting at the bar who I think was an employee who went and grabbed a waitress. I wish I could remember her name she was very friendly and attentive. The food was really good also!
Loved this place! Good music playing on the bar side and a great meal had sitting in the rustic side area. Great service! Great food! Definitely worth the visit....
The food is amazing!!! We just happened upon it while on vacation.
Nothing special. Good food at a moderate price situated in a very cool old town. Decent beer selection.
A cozy restaurant that has all the making of a great place. The food is great, the staff is friendly and there is great seating outside. The inside is dark and a little tight, which is typical of older buildings. Worth a visit for a date night, a quick bite or just grabbing a few cold ones.
Fun and friendly
Very nice place. Great crab balls and great bartender.
Overpriced food that was not very good... but the staff was friendly and fun atmosphere!
It pas Excellent, good delicious, service great, the waitress so pilote and efficent!
Passing through looking for a pub. This place has the colonial feel to the pub side, great selection of beer and bar drinks, and much better than average food. Very happy with service as well. One star minus for the gambling and lottery push.
Do not waste your money. My girlfriend I spent a weekend in Harper’s Ferry and the Anvil seemed the only choice for food since everything else was closed (in early March). The food was absolutely below par, the service surly and unfriendly and the place has no ambience. They served me a steak my dog wouldn’t even eat and then we’re reluctant to replace it with a different dish. Better go elsewhere!
Food was wonderful. Go hungry large portions
Always closed. On days im in town. Closed on a sat. Thats crazy. Lady that runs it isn't friendly. People that live in it Don't go. Because of her. Not inviting. Rude.
The Anvil Restaurant is our favorite place to eat in Harper's Ferry. The atmosphere is quaint, food is always good, staff is friendly, the service terrific, and the prices are reasonable. Can't wait to go back again!
First time I had ever been at this restaurant this evening, and it was absolutely TERRIBLE! We drove almost an hour to get there for beyond poor customer service. I can’t even speak on the food because we were ignored and were never served! Never got a drink, or was even offered a water! After waiting to be acknowledged for 30 minutes, we just gave up and our party got up and left. What a waste of time, and a total disappointment.
Excellent NY Strip and frindkynbut very serious staff.
Good but not great. Friendly service. Casual pub atmosphere.
Good food.
I am not from this area and I was here with my family, we were all starving and we needed food. We are a big group 12 of us so we know that we might half to wait to be seated a little longer. So we walked in so hungry and then we weren’t even greeted and then the kids where in the way and then this lady said to my cousin “ugh move” who treats someone like that, I understand they were busy and under staffed. I understand the situation but I have been in the food business and have never taken my stress out on my costumers. So we had been wait there for about 20 minutes and no yet been seated they haven’t even talked to us yet. So my aunt goes on to call another place and then they were talking about it and the restaurant couldn’t take our big group so they suggested the canal house to us and said that the anvil is known for disrespect towards costumers. Overall I am very disappointed and I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND COMING HERE.
Went for brunch.. they have a decent menu. The atmosphere is kind of neat too you can definitely tell it's an older historical joint. Everyone in our party seemed to get along with their meal... minus the kind of burnt bacon on my bacon cheese burger.. I would like to go when the have their live music and see how that is. I would probably go back if the opportunity came.
Got the ruben down pat. This place was great and affordable.
Limited menu but each dish has been wonderful. Don't pass up on the bacon wrapped jalapeno shrimp!
Great friends showed up.
Great food friendly service
While traveling, it's a pleasure to find such gems as the Anvil to eat in. The staff was most helpful, not just with lunch, but also the ins & outs of navigating Harpers Ferry. Thanks again!
My wife and I have recently visited this little gem. It is a historic building with multiple facts and documents explaining the details. The menu is American fare. Choices are more than sufficient. I had the shrimp, It was amazing and perfectly cooked. The ambience is quiet rustic and romantic. The Chef even came out while we were there. Definitely will be going back soon.
Nice place, the food was good.
Great place and great people
