The food was delicious and the experience was one to remember. I ordered the duck with cranberry sauce. It was moist and tender, and incredibly delicious! It came with mashed potatoes and this delicious vegetable dish that was a cross between a quiche and an egg custard. My family and I also decided to order dessert. Our waiter gave recommendations from his personal favorites. I ordered the raspberry liqueur cheesecake. It was not rich in taste like most cheesecakes, but light and delicate, and incredibly tasty. It also had a perfect creamy texture. The owner/chef was one of the best parts of the whole experience. He would periodically come over to check on us, and had such a great personality as he chatted and joked around with us. This will definitely be a meal to remember and I will certainly be returning again.

Desserts were great. We had duck and Filet. I would recommend them. Fresh prepared food at a reasonably price. Table cloths and real napkins. I good place for real food.

Olivia Schroeter

My boyfriend and I went here... The place seemed outdated and in need of a cleaning with the pile of things on the back counter. The food was okay....but overpriced for what we got. You could here the cook yelling in the back. Overall it wasn't worth the visit.

I was very disappointed to learn that a recently-expired gift certificate would not be honored at the full face amount. I was told that the restaurant would provide 50% credit, which did not seem reasonable given that the gift certificate was issued within the last 9 months and only expired 3 months prior. I recognize it was my error but most establishments will provide some leeway on an expiration date, particularly as we are repeat guests who live out of town. Honestly, I would be hard-pressed to visit La Nicoise Café again. There are too many other good options in Winchester.

Good lunch. Prompt service, Nice setting and the cook/owner came out to ensure we had a delightful meal. Onion soup and lamb sandwich were very good We'll stop in again when in town.

Nice family owned restaurant with excellent food. The owner Fredrich is an awesome person and takes pride in his restaurant and the food he prepares for his quests. Very nice quiet atmosphere and is perfect for a romantic dinner with someone special. Dinning area is very cozy and relaxing. Located right downtown by the historic walking mall.

Aleta Clayton

I have only had the French onion soup, which is spectacular. An authentically French menu.

The ambiance! Music and excellent service coupled with great food presented just right majes for a great dining. It is unique and we keep going back. It never disappoints us.

Comfortable, small cafe. Creme brulee was fantastic. The seafood paella and crab/shrimp ravioli were both delicious. Parking was the only issue. Would go back again.

Best French Food in the area. Yummy French onion soup!!!

Charles Miller

A wonderful place, with wonderful food! It's like being in some small town somewhere in France. The owner Frederic Boukaia is very friendly, and a joy to talk with. I plan to return many, many times!

Cheri Justis

They claim to have the best french onion soup and it was as good as any I've had. We enjoyed the ambiance.

David Brannon

Food was decent but the portions were small, especially for the price. Service was mediocre as well. Waitress didn't even ask if we wanted anything other than water to drink and didn't even offer dessert. SMH.

Julia T

Very good, fresh made authentic French- style food and drinks. Professional and welcoming staff and owner. Quiet and cozy setting. Good for dates!

Nick Borchers

Excellent food and definitely worth the short trip away from the Old Town walking mall. The owner provide free entertainment (he's hysterical) to compliment the food. My Dad thought the Liver was the best he'd ever had, and the Cheesecake was phenomenal. If we lived closer we'd be regular customers.

We arrived at the restaurant at around 8PM and upon entering were told the establishment was closed with no explanation. Both the sign on the door and the Google listing state they dont close till 9:30. Very disappointed as our group had been planning our outing there for a week prior. If given the chance to eat here I'd change my review

Kat

I gave one star for inconvenience because it was closed when the info on google said it should be open. I drove an hour to try them out and it was disapointing (Sun 1:56pm)

Dana

Had a great lunch with our 3 year old on a rainy Saturday. We had the plum and brie tart, cesar salad, ratatouille, lamb sandwich, merguez sandwich, and fries. Everything was excellent, service was great, and the chef is exceptionally nice! It is across from a fire station and my son got to watch the fire truck pull into the station! Can't wait to go back, already know what I'm ordering!

Susanna Werner

We were there for lunch. Lovely experience ! French Onion soup to write home about. The Chocolate Mousse is rich and dark. Beautiful presentation, delicious food, intimate ambiance, and a personable owner who cares about his diners experience. My residence is almost an hour away, but I will make the trip again and again because this little gold mine is worth it. My compliments to the chef !

M Sams

French in the woods. Very satisfactory quality and a break from the routine. Recommend.

Patricia O'farrell

Wonderful dinner very cozy romantic thank you!!

My friend and I visited LNC twice this weekend. These were our first visits. They accept reservations for dinner which is nice. It is a quaint cafe. We had dinner and brunch. All of the food was great. The French Oniin Soup and Creme Brulee were awesome! Be sure to try the French toast! There is street (sometimes metered) parking...and a parking garage just down the block. We look forward to visiting again when in town. Update 3/2019: visited again and tried the duck and the prosciutto wrapped aspara6. Great meal again.

The service was slow, the staff was not very hospitable, the food was fine but oddly paired. The restaurant was not particularly clean or up to date.

We stopped here on our way to Pennsylvania. It was superb - a little taste of France. It was the best French food, outside of France, that I have had. Take the time to stop.

The Steak Frites were divine; I have become spoiled by sous-vide cooking! The expense is well worth it.

Rebecca Shannon

Very disappointing food for the price. Much better off going to Village Square or another reputable restaurant in the area. Our waitress did a good job though.

Barbara Daoust-Westbrooks

We had a delicious brunch today at La Nicoise Cafe today. The eggs Benedict with rosemary potatoes and a small salad were perfect! The grilled sea scallops with blue cheese sauce and saffron rice disappeared quickly. The French toast with fruit looked wonderful. I had creme caramel that reminded me of the ones my Mom used to make. Highly recommend!

Troy Garrison

The customer service is always rapid, great character, super friendly staff members. Will visit here again when I am in the area.

Jen Mehaffey

Decent food. Service was great. But the meal was overpriced for what it was

Romantic atmosphere, excellent service, extraordinary chef! You can't go wrong by selecting this gem!

Very nice restaurant. Stopped here while driving North from Florida. I ordered the beef tips with mushrooms & onion sauce, that I asked to have served with rice instead of noodles, as I can't eat gluten. They were very understanding and helpful. My father ordered crab raviolis in a mushroom sauce. Both were very flavorful, and used great ingredients.

Deb Wilson

My husband and I spent our Anniversary at La Nicoise. It has been a tradition for us to enjoy French cuisine. The food was delicious. I had cream of asparagus soup which was very tasty. My husband had the french onion and found it equally packed with flavor, I then had the Salad with chicken liver, strawberries, apples, walnuts, and a Very Tasty Vinaigrette, which made me wish I could lick the plate in a mannerly way. The chicken liver gave the salad a very well balanced earthy flavor, that balanced out the fruit, greens, red onion, and chosen Vinaigrette. My husband had the muscles and found it outstanding, and he has sampled many muscle dishes to attest to the outstanding prep La Nicoise chef took in preparing the dish. We then moved on to the main course, I had the grilled lamp chops which was prepared to perfect temperature, the sauce exhibited the excellence of French cuisine you would expect. Again made me wish that I could have taken my finger and cleaned the plate, without being deemed ill mannered. Accompanied with petite potatoes, and heart of palm casserole which melted in your mouth. My husband chose the beef tips with linguine in a very balanced and tasty sauce. To round out our experience we both chose the grand marnier brulee. I can just say and think my husband agrees, etiquette was thrown aside, and the ramekins were turned this way and that to obtain every speck of the decadent delights that laid beneath the caramelized sugary crust. Our waiter was attentive and very friendly. The chef stopping by and asking how we were doing was a pleasant and welcoming treat. I highly recommend La Nicoise if your looking for a true Southern French Mediterranean atmosphere and cuisine at a truly reasonable price. Bon appetite

Service was outstanding. Owner was friendly and our server was attentive without being overbearing. Food was fine although not sure how fresh everything was. Back area of dining room and restrooms look like they could use a good cleaning & updating.

JP Fuller

Delightful

Don WoodS

Portions were very small for the price. Chef had a very heavy hand with the salt shaker. One waitress was not enough to serve the whole room. A disappointing experience.

An authentic French restaurant. The food was delicious! A nice place for a special date night out. Highly recommended. I ordered french onion soup. Cheesy, not too salty, and a delicious broth. My date had a chicken liver salad with fresh spinach, strawberries, and perfectly prepared chicken livers, she said. For the main course I had calves liver which was prepared perfectly, creamy texture and not dried out like many other restaurants tend to do. The deglaze was yummy with the addition of wine to really bring out the flavor... my date had the trout which she said was wonderfully flavored and nicely moist. Together we shared a bottle of local virginia wine. Overall the service was attentive and professional. While we were there right when they opened, I was still surprised at at 7pm on a Friday night the restaurant was still sparsely occupied. Take advantage of a wonderful Winchester establishment!

Jennifer Newton-Bateman

Authentic French cooking by chef Fred in a homey cafe setting. Love the escargot!

Simon Baker

Simple and delicious french inspired food, made and served by the owner. The setting is quaint if a little quiet, but you'll always be warmly received and treated as though you come in every other day.

Brad Jordan

Stopped in for lunch on a rare Friday off with my wife. She had the scallops with the blue cheese, I had the Muscles with the garlic white wine/butter reduction, both were amazing, the scallops were the perfect toasted marshmallow consistency crispy outside and almost creamy inside. The muscles were well cooked, but it was the broth that shined, I asked for extra bread to sop up the, in my opinion best part of the dish. The waitress was kind and attentive and the owner/chef was awesome, a wait and see kind of guy, we didn't know he was the owner till he asked how our meal was after, soo nice and amazing. I will be back a lot!

Mary Sylvester

Very disappointed Seafood paella. Did I say very disappointed ! Do not order this if it is on menu ! I could not click on POST unless I clicked on a star. I didn't want to click on one star !
