Food looks great but I won't eat there. It always smells like they have a sewer gas leak which doesn't mix well. I wish they could fix the problem.

the owners of this place suck. having said that, the winterplace roll is 2 die for

Christopher Walker

Todd, Nicole, and the customers (on the Bar 101 side) make this a place worth visiting

I absolutely love coming here and ordering pickup...the best sushi ever...great service and conversation. Wonderful clean beautiful classy environment. I met the owner last year and he is just one of a kind!!! It's nice to have a quality place to go to in Charleston, Wv. Thank you!!! Taste of Asia has nothing on you!!!

Ichiban is the best restaurant in Charleston! I'm from out of town and go every time I'm in Charleston. Every visit my boyfriend and I get sushi and it's always amazing. That's all we get and decided next trip it's time to try something off the menu other than sushi. I can't wait!

One of our favorite places to go. We've been there more than 10 times total I'm sure. Always get an "almost heaven" roll or 3. The beef rolls appetizer is a favorite! If I would offer up something constructive it is that the sushi is over priced relevant to size, quantity, and selection offered. I go other places and get good sushi and more of it for better value. Ichiban sushi is delicious make no mistake but too pricey for how much you get. I would order quite a bit more sushi other than our usual flurry of almost heaven rolls if the value was better. Don't want to leave out the staff! Always happy with the service no matter who helps us enjoy our meal! Thank you guys!

Fantastic hipster sushi joint, very high priced sushi with moderate quality. The plum sake is a must, the mochi ice cream is excellent, and the staff are certainly the nicest even if you are dining alone.

Waited an hour and a half for 2 things of sushi and when we got the sushi it wasn't even good. Not to mention the food was pricey.

Oliver Ho

Slow service, too much salt, and overcooked fish

Ted T

I really appreciated the cleanliness of this restaurant. Our bartender was very sweet with a great attitude. It is quite pricey for the size of the portions you receive. I'm not much into sushi but I'm always into trying places that are new to me. The smoked salmon had a slight grayish tint to it instead of pink? My date loved hers so I'll go with her opinion since she loves sushi. The service was spot on with a attentive staff.

Friendly service but insanely slow for the quality. Drive the extra few miles to Su-Tei or Sakura.

Mae Diaz

Food was good except for the soup that came out cold and when we let the server know she take the temperature with her finger!

Maria Belcher

Ichiban never disappoints! Almost Heaven Maki is my favorite and recommendation for sure. One of my favorite spots in Charleston!

The wait staff was rude both times I was there. The food was by far the most expensive Asian food in Charleston and not as good as several other less expensive restaurants with better service. I would recommend Taste of Asia in S. Charleston if you're looking for sushi.

Incredible food, great people, and a fun atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Brady Campbell

A great restaurant in the heart of downtown Charleston which offers cocktails from the classic Old Fashion and Manhattan to the uniquely asian-inspired green tea martini. The is phenomenal and prepared by local legend, Chef Evan. From presentation to taste and texture, the sushi and sashimi are the highest quality and presented with culinary flair. Be warned that prices are above average, but understand that the restaurant uses the highest quality ingredients and the size of the restaurant limits the number of daily patrons. Our friends Julie and Keith were thoroughly impressed as well.

Worst sushi place I've ever been to. Bad service. Bad food. Took almost an hour and a half for one sushi roll and a piece of cake. Would not recommend to anyone.

I went here for the first time with my husband as a 'date night'. He loved the Mongolian Beef citing the authenticity of the dish by having bok choy. Ichiban has the best fried rice I've ever had in my life (which is significant considering my husband can make some pretty good friend rice). The sushi was as expected. I thought the décor inside was slightly generic and a little dark. I will gladly return as another date night, but I don't think I would feel comfortable bringing my children as it is more of an upscale type of restaurant (though there were children here when we dined).

Tracy Knapp

Incredible selection. The sushi is the best in Charleston. Don't miss the plum saki.

Alex Bostic

Amazing Sushi!

Food is generally great! I had tonkotsu ramen. The soup base was everything I hoped it would be. Tasted like they spent an entire day preparing it in the traditional fashion, but the noodles were a tad overcooked. The service however left quite a lot to be desired. I was there as part of a party of 8. The dinner service wasn't especially busy that evening. Several open tables in the dining room, even still it took 2 hours to get our entrées. In spite of the long wait the waitress was completely unappolagetic and not very attentive to the table.

Guy was on his cell phone. Waited 20 min sirring outside table, no service. Waitresses were coming in and out but did not stop.

Few things that disappointed me: 1) the sushi fish quality was sub-par and one of my friends felt sick before we even left. 2) I called prior to dinner and asked to see if they had gluten free soy sauce. They said yes, so my group came to the restaurant. We were seated and they brought the GF soy sauce right away, which was nice. Then when we ordered dinner they said the sushi rice wasn't Gluten free and basically I could only order sashimi and a side of the steamed rice. I know this doesn't effect most visitors, that don't have gluten allergies, however, the fish being sub-par quality should make you think twice before eating here. *The server was amazing and nice though, so couldn't give just one star.

Great atmosphere, class A Sushi. Bar 101 is attached to Ichiban. Chef Evan, ask for him at the Sushi bar.

Food was decent. Drinks were made extremely poorly and with no passion. I saw water being poured in to an old fashioned, drinks shaken only once and then poured and not a single measurement made for any consistency. Not the standards that i would expect for the kind of establishment they are advertising and charging for. With a bit of extra care and training this could be a great place. I hope they take action to prevent future laziness when it comes to drinks

Prices are outrageous!

3 Stars about right. Sushi good but not great. Nice Happy hour crowd.

I really just didn't like the food. Maybe if I had ordered something else, but it wasn't the most amazing meal I've ever had.

Alice Hu

Good food, a bit pricey compared to similar menus close by. The atmosphere is nice, good bar selection.

This restaurant never fails to deliver! Every bite was on point from the appetizer to the salad to the entree to that lucious chocolate cake. Perfect way to celebrate an anniversary!!

Gus G

Ordered through CHARLESTON2Go and will be the last time. I don’t know what happened but I can tell you I never thought I’d pay $115 for heat and serve food and slow delivery that took over 2 hours to get to my door. I can’t see this place staying open for long.

Mercedes Muldrew

Delicious food and the price is reasonable! :) I love it! :)

Tim Hyatt

seriously overpriced. really seems like for all the effort to trying to make Japanese cuisine, they don't really know what it's supposed to taste like in the first place. Seems far to invested in the upscale, yuppie image of being connected with a bar, than for making really great Japanese meals. Service was surprisingly slow and options on the minimalist side. For all that it's name means "1st"...it's in first place at the bottom of my list......

I love the atmosphere and the wait staff were very helpful and knowledgeable and kind. But I was severely disappointed in the sushi. Our appetizer egg roll however was delicious!

Great sushi well crafted and inventive for the area. They also do a nice job on steak and seafood dishes so it's a good choice if you have a group that won't all eat sushi. The bar has a great selection and some killer martinis, and the option to order from next door at Bar 101 on crowded nights is a nice convenience.

J F

Their service is unacceptably slow. I ordered one appetizer, one entree, and sushi. It took them an hour to have my order ready! I highly recommend going to Taste of Asia instead!

Sonja s

I love this restaurant! Great atmosphere, staff, and eats! Evan keeps new and delicious items coming from the sushi bar! I highly recommend the Sashimi nachos!

Some glaring issues with this place. 1. Quality of food: when I ordered the Coconut Shrimp, I did not expect to get glazed Shrimp over a bed of Cucumbers. The Teriaki Chicken was less sauteed and more steamed and the veggies had the crunch of undercooked food. 2. Service: The server was fine at the beginning, but checked on us less and less as the meal progressed and comments like "well, that's what it says on the menu" were made. Not to mention the long time it took for our meal to come out. 3. Atmosphere: That is where this place shines. The lighting was excellent, the decor was great, and the overall feel screamed (feel good cosey place). 4. Prices: I have no issue paying a slight premium for well prepared Pan-asian food, but please fix the first 2 issues, so I would visit there again.

I love Ichiban. It is exactly what Charleston needed. I have never had anything there that wasn't exceptional. From their appetizers to their main dishes, everything is fantastic. I strongly recommend the Jadin Roll, the Singapore Noodles, The Tuna Nachos, and the Lobster Roll! Yummy! They are constantly reinventing new dishes.

Norm Santos

Had Sashimi Deluxe and Spicy. Crab salad. Quality was good. Service was good. Prices were a bit high.

Bear Dogg

Great service and great food. Worth every penny.

The sushi bar was great. Besides the slow food, it tasted great and the chef was nice.

The food is great. When busy, the noise level is very intense. You just about have to tell to be heard at your table.

It's ok. I enjoyed the creamy ginger salad dressing!

Very good Sushi for land lock location.
