This Restaurant is included in the category of Mexican restaurant.
Great spot for Mexican restaurant fair, beverages and a fun atmosphere. Corn chips are thin, crispy and excellent. Generous frozen margheritas. Full bar. Food ws tasty. Fun, efficient service.
Tortilla Coast is a great neighborhood secret. I absolutely love this place. My friend and I ordered the chicken ceasar salad, pork nachos, and frozen margaritas (favorite)! The portions were big. The food was delicious. Ms. Shanida took excellent care of us and I am very grateful. I look forward to returning.
The food is pretty good, and staff is great. Very friendly and accommodating.
Very unassuming place with great service and even better food. I had the chicken enchiladas and I will definitely be back for more. The chips and salsa are also very flavorful, not like some other restaurants that just give you something that resembles salsa and say their chips are house made...this stuff is really good.
Good food, delicious drinks, reasonable prices, pleasant service. Carne asada tacos, blakened fish tacos, watermelon margarita tasted great.
Good lunch and price
Authentic Mexican food in the middle of DC, with very reasonable price. Chef s specials are good for anyone.
Happy hour drinks are great! Food on the other hand is another story. I felt like I got nickel and dimed. The quesadilla on HH is a JOKE. Almost 8 bucks for 4 tiny pieces. I should have just ordered off the menu. And when I did...where did the flavor go?? So if your okay with drinking with interns, standing over you while you try to eat..then this is your spot. Only reason I actually gave stars is because the bartender (female) was personable.
Whole family loved it. Food was excellent, many choices, loved the decor, wait staff was great.
Best salsa and nice thin chips
Standard Mexican Restaurant. Great food! Good location.
Great food, fun atmosphere & good drinks
Wow,. My wife and I love it! Great food. Meals are great and service good. Love their chips and salsa.
If you are hungry it may work. However if you are specting Mexican food be prepared to be dissapionted. You may have a better luck eating from a truck stand and save a bundle.
Casual and a little older. The food is good, quick service. Great servers.
Right off of the Capitol South metro stop, this is arguably the best tex mex place in DC. Its off the mall, but close enough to walk from there if need be. Great food, excellent staff, its one of our go to places when we want to grab a meal in DC.
Tacos were nothing to write home about. Service was fair. The best thing they have going for them is their location on Capitol Hill.
Good happy hour specials in the bar area 7 days a week. Food and margaritas are pretty good too. Standard tex mex.
Found this place while walking from the metro to Nationals Park and it was definitely a pleasant surprise. Happy hour is nice and long with great specials. How can you go wrong with a pineapple mango margarita? Seems to be a friendly, fun atmosphere and the neighborhood is lucky to have them. I look forward to a second trip for a full meal.
Great Mexican food at respectable prices. I'd eat here again for sure. Service was quick and friendly.
Excellent food! Great location.
Chips and salsa excellent - tacos ok, little $ for lunch
Went here after a Nationals game. Delicious. I got the Texas Chili Enchiladas and was about 15 for my meal. Service was a little slow but, it was busy so it was expected.
Very rude. At first we came in and ordered some food. After we received the foot we got the bill. We didn’t ask for the bill but we just got it and had to pay. We found the service very bad so gave a tip of $6 on a $50 meal. After the waitor saw the amount of the tip he started shaking his head so everyone could see we gave not enough in his opinion. After shaking his head he said very loud ‘wow’, sarcastic. I think they should fire this man because he ruined everything. We had to eat very fast and pay WHILE eating.
Great food and great service. Welcoming hospitality. Our table really enjoyed the nachos and fish tacos. The hostess/bartender/manager was awesome. Great end to a great visit to the city.
Good food, HUUUUGGGGEEEE portions and seriously good prices. It's also across the street from a DC Metro station!
Not what we expected. Happy hour needs to be seated in bar only. Nachos didn't have any cheese to speak of, and a piece of fat. Nearly no meat. No refried beans & not many whole beans.
I was there last week with my family and a few friends. When i left the restaurant, i realized that i had forgotten my bag which had 'uncut currency' that my kids bought from the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. Since i was already in the Metro, i called the restaurant immediately and informed them of the situation . I was told that they have the bag with them and can collect it later the next week when i visit D.C. again. I picked up my bag and returned home. Now I see that they went through my bag, removed the currency sheets form their respective envelopes, folded it and tried to tear them (probably to be used as regular currency). I called the restaurant and informed the manager. Was not surprised that the first thing he said was that it would not be his staff who did this. He mentioned that they would have directly handed over my bag to him as soon as they found it. I had nothing further to say when a restaurant who prides themselves in serving good food and drinks doesnt even hear a customer complaint, so I ended the call. I guess then the Bureau may have sold me currency in that condition or I managed to unknowingly destroy a gift that my kids bought. I find this highly disgusting and a violation of my privacy as a customer. Is this how a customer or their belongings get treated? I hope the owners look into this and restore a customers faith in them.
Update June 2019: I've given this place too many chances. Gave it another shot last weekend with wife and daughter. Ordered a margarita...it never came, server never checked back with us on drinks. My wife and I both ordered bbq chx salad with dressing on side (we specifically asked for dressing twice just to be sure). Sure enough the salads came out drenched in dressing. The chx was hard and dry (like it had been sitting out too long). We complained to the waiter, he never ever apologized. He sent the manager to our table as if we were the 'problem customers'. Never an apology, no explanation. Terrible service. Terrible food. Review from April 2019: Such a HUGE disappointment! The burritos are loaded with nothing but rice and beans and maybe a tablespoon of actual meat. Plus they come with rice and beans on the side(!). I literally had nothing but rice and beans plus tortilla for dinner. I have never had such a bad dinner. I ordered a beef burrito, my wife ordered a chicken chimichanga for carry out. Barely any sauce, zero flavor. I can't think of a more lousy tasting burrito. Here's the pic of my wife's chimi. My beef burrito had even less beef than her cchimi. The only reason I gave 2 stars is that a few weeks ago I ate here with my daughter and ordered enchiladas and they were pretty good. However based on tonight's dinner I'll probably not head back again. Too many better options out there.
Good ole local Mexican restaurant. Quiet atmosphere, good stop, tamales we're solid. Beer was great on a hot day.
Great happy hour prices
Laid back atmosphere with great service.
Food good. Staff friendly. Get there early there is VERY LITTLE PARKING!
Great restaurant and the bartenders know how to do it. An old friend took me here and now i wish they had one in Philly
Great food. Reasonable prices. Deceptively big seating area (there's a downstairs). Service was prompt, friendly and attentive. Would definitely recommend.
Great atmosphere, good food, really nice people. Great place to be seen...if that's what you're into. Lots of high profile politicos.
Great Mexican food right outside of the national mall. Ordered tacos and they were out in about 2 minutes. Staff was helpful and restrooms were clean.
Went at lunch time what can I say great food and even better margaritas. I had the carnitas pulled pork tacos and margarita swirl. Everything was delicious and authentic. Reminded me of being in Texas. Best of all next to Capitol South metro.
Good for a QUICK lunch. Good service and good food.
Good food. Drinks are weak. Don't know why they dont upgrade this place. Health Dept. must not exist in this part of the world
Service was good. Prices were ok. Quesadillas were amazing. Chimichanga was ok. Fajitas and blackened fish tacos were just ok. I wouldnt reorder.
Bottomless brunch! It's a homey diner vibe but they know how to turn up here don't be fooled by the laid back atmosphere!
Great Mexican spot. Friendly staff. Amazing neighbourhood spot with the best warmed tortilla chips :)
Good food. Bad service, don't sit in the bar area anyway. My buddies and I went without a server coming up to us for a good 15-20 min. Then we had to call a different server over to help us out for the night... Maybe the guy was having a bad night but he should go home if he's not ok.
Great place, but very crowded. The staff served us very nice. They had communication skills where they asked questions to make sure we were all on the same page.
Not very good at all but they do really well making the salsa and having fresh hot chips constantly, not always very busy so the bar is usually pretty good
Been here many times for happy hour. The place is very crowded, the bartenders are friendly and margaritas are delicious.
We were visiting from out of town, but one in our party had interned in DC for a summer. She remembered eating at Tortilla Coast frequently and wanted to go back. We were VERY happy she wanted to go back! It was DELICIOUS! Our waiter was friendly and helpful, the food was hot, fresh, and amazing. We debated just returning every night of our trip!
Very good food service was ok
Really good crunchy tacos
Too loud. Service so slow. Stale-oily tortilla chips; queso cold
After a long day of exploring DC, my wife and I could not have been happier than stopping at Tortilla Coast for dinner. From the beginning the service was unlike I had ever had before! Super friendly, timely and above all, fantastic food! This made the day just that much better and I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for some good Tex-Mex eating.
First time and I enjoyed the be food. Staff be was very helpful in suggestions and food was served in a be timely manner
Camped out at the bar with some great friends to watch the Saints/Rams game. Bartender did a great job of keeping us in drinks and food. It was good.
Had the Arturo’s special enchiladas. They were phenomenal! Great atmosphere
Torilla Coast is a perfect spot for lunch on the Hill. It's located one block from the Capitol buildings, is reasonably priced, has spacious seating, and friendly staff. Not to mention my chicken enchiladas were incredible.
Inside out burrito is the best meal I've ever had. The steak is so tender and melts in your mouth like butter.
I've been there twice. My daughter loves the shrimp quesadillas. The food is good and the service is great. I like the atmosphere.
The service was good, however the tacos were short on flavor. Would try again .
The food was good, portions were abundante, but the service was so slow, we waited for almost 45 minutes for food
Tortilla Coast is the one spot my crews loves to go to lunch. The BBQ chicken fajita is delicious. The tortilla chips will make you get a Togo box for your lunch.
Fast service, reasonable prices, and tasty food. It's great to find a place like this so close to the House Office Buildings
This place is awesome! Was searching for a place that wasn't super expensive and decided to give this place a try. I got Lucy's plate which was a combo platter and every single thing on my plate was delicious. Beans are kind of spicy so if you're not into that be aware but I thought it was awesome. The plate had a lot of food and came out much quicker than we expected so be sure not to fill up to much on the chips and salsa. Also it was actually wheelchair accessible, with tables at a height that you can comfortably sit at with a wheelchair so extra props there.
I like Tortilla Coast for its Mexican offerings for lunch and its happy hour specials are actually pretty good. The sunset dip (with cilantro in it) is SO GOOD so I would definitely recommend getting that for an appetizer or really any addition for your meal. I find it's really good on the salads (which I love!) but I also like getting it on the fajitas. The chips and queso are really great too. The chips are pretty thin so you could easily eat an entire bag of them in one sitting (you've been warned). The salsa is really fresh. Love that they have frozen margaritas and their happy hour prices are great!
Great service and awesome Mexican/TexMex food. Walking distance from the Capital Building.
Kind staff, good tacos and quesadillas. Tortilla with salsa is included in the price and it is delicious
I truly like eating here, is very good but the food is very delicious. Their chips are delicious and the happy hours is great.
Mediocre mexican lunch spot off capital hill. Servers seemed like they had better things to do then help anyone.
Great service recommend Lucy's Plate
Great place on the Hill to grab a drink
Very good service and food. Margaritas are excellent. Enchiladas the best.
Their frozen margs are amazing! We came here to celebrate meeting with our representative. The mix was amazing, bottomless chips and salsa, and the quesadilla was delicious!
Pedro was a hoot! Great happy hour and good food as well.
Not the best service but has a fantastic happy hour and great Fajitas!
Service is good, but the cook has a mind of his own. Sent my food back 3 times and it was still wrong. Probably won't go back on my own, but the chips and salsa are very good.
Had the tortilla soup. As a former food critic the soup can do without the carrots. It gives it an usual sweet taste. Also, adding a slice of avocado will improve the flavor.
Great place for lunch exspecially when you need a frozen margarita or frozen sangria to get through the rest of the day
A legendarily mediocre Tex-Mex joint that upgraded to a rather outstanding Tex-Mex joint a few years ago. If you're familiar with Tex-Mex only by way of Taco Bell, you're missing out. That's not meant to be a knock on Taco Bell, but you wouldn't judge all hamburgers by McDonald's, right? This is classic American casual cuisine that deserves to be enjoyed as much as any greasy spoon, soul food, or American Chinese restaurant. Tortilla Coast has really good Tex-Mex now. Maybe the Texans in your life could disagree, but let this institution have it's deserved moment in the sun. It's convenient for lunch after Hill meetings, so it gets very busy on weekday afternoons. Try visiting for weekend brunch, when it becomes just a sleepy neighborhood dive. Everything you've heard about the Coast is true... including this review!
