Here you will see all the reviews of real people like you who consume the services and products of La Puerta Verde (Restaurant) near to the state of Washington.
Right now the firm receives a score of 4.4 out of 5 and the rating has been based on 188 reviews.
As you can see its rating is really high, and it is based on a large number of feddbacks, so we may conclude that the score is quite accurate. If there are many people who bothered to value when they are pleased with the business, it works.
As you know, we do not usually stop to place evaluations when they are correct and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Restaurant is classified in the category of Mexican restaurant.
Went here with a large group for dinner. We had an enjoyable time. Good service, good food, fun atmosphere
Pescado fish tacos are good. I would want a more durable corn tortilla though. But I will come back for chips and salsa.
Great food. Fun atmosphere. The cocktails are delicious. Only have sat in bar. I have lost a many Sunday afternoon day drinking with friends at this locale.
The food was decent at best, but at least it wasn't cheap! Also, the service was sub-par and SLOW; I asked for a margarita recommendation and our server suggested I get the sangria. Huh?
I highly recommend. Great tacos. Ask servers to pace themselves or you will be done with apps and tacos in 25 minutes. Service is good, but makes the experience wrap up too quickly.
The food is good and I like the decor
Great little spot for some tasy treats and good drinks. However the experience was tainted by one server who had what I would call a "grunge" attitute. For some it was the downtown art district nonchalant attitude but for others she was just rude. Other than that it was a great spot. I will visit again.
Flavorful and well portioned, but seems to leave something to be desired. Staff tends to feel almost frantic, busy and slow? Pretty decent cocktails though, the hibiscus cocktail is yummy.
You must try the braised short ribs and the fried Brussels Sprouts with chipotle mayo. Dios mios! Service was ok on the Sunday night I visited but the food is on point!
Great food and excellent service! Even when they're busy, the staff is attentive and welcoming. We've been here for brunch and dinner. Food is always delicious and drinks are tasty and boozey!
The chip, salsa and chile rellenos are so good! The staff is really nice, too.
Great Mexican food; a rarity in DC. Try the guac! It's savory and a little spicy (still mild) and wonderful.
Wonderful cute, cozy atmosphere and excellent food!! The service was excellent and I loved that it wasnt super crowded.
The decor is amazing! Love the tiled walls! The food is great, and service was fantastic too.
Great food with cool and relaxing environment. Sports bar connected.
Every dish I have had here has been fantastic. The seafood is especially good
Me gustó mucho especialmente los tacos el dueño es muy amable y la localidad es bonita en el diseño muy diferente a los demás restaurantes
Great food and great experience. Staff was very friendly. Food was delicious. I don't have a picture of my poblano and corn soup but that was my favorite dish. Great flavors. Lamb (pictured) was seasoned perfectly.
Nice ambiance, friendly service, great cocktails and food. The meat (skirt steak and the pork chop) was a bit tough.
My love it here. Jay-Arr was are sever and he was the best. I will be back again and again and again and again. I hope you get the point lol. The staff is good too.
Food was ok, but VERY heavy on the cilantro. Suppose it could be a play on the name, but it was definitely over the top. Waiter very long for our server multiple times. If you want to eat ivy city, there are better places to go.
The Guacomole and corn are a must!!!! Delicious
What an incredible experience. The drinks were boozy and balanced, and that experience carried throughout. Service was spectacular and they helped us craft the perfect meal. The food was beyond delicious. We will definitely be going back soon.
Been twice; once for dinner and once for breakfast. Both experiences were great. Friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful service paired with great food and well made cocktails. A little out of the way, but always worth the trip!
CJ is the truth (the only black server in the building, but you'd think she was from Mexico). She was knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating! The food was so fresh, flavorful and filling! Thanks Chef Mae Mae! The service was superb! What a gem. Parking's perfect for a Friday night. An excellent experience...it rivals any place in the city. Ceviche/short ribs...Yes Yes!
3 beautiful steak tacos to go. The best tacos in DC!!
It's tapas-style, which is always annoying, but it's good food and a unique interior that nicely melds the Mexican theme of the restaurant with the industrial theme of the neighborhood. Get the pork shank.
Great happy hour tacos
Good food!
While in Washington DC we googled Mexican food and gratefully this lovely restaurant popped up. Less than a mile from us....we found the location easily and proceded to have the most delightful cocktails and dinner imaginable. Salsa was delicious with chips and my chili relleno was absolutely wonderful. The decor and atmosphere were beautiful and the service was excellent.
Great food, great drinks, great service
The tacos are fine but the bonus is they do happy hour on the weekends!
The nut rub on the chicken mole is amazing, and when you fill a little tortilla with that, a plantain, and a sprig of cilantro, it is fantastic. I highly recommend getting the fluffy churros as your dessert, they don't disappoint. Service was flawless and the mezcal list is a nice touch.
Great service and awesome tequila selection!
The tres tacos, yummy!!!
I stumbled across this place while visiting the city and it's Amazing! Happy Hour is basically like Taco Tuesday every day! The food was delicious and Kayla the bartender was great!
Excellent food in Ivy City! And probably the best Elote in the city? Reasonable prices and cool/hip digs. Brunch goes down easy with a solid Michelada and Mezcal spiked favorites.
Food is edible. Completely unimpressive. Staff seemed to be on commission to get you to buy liquor. Might be better for dinner The happy hour tacos I had was edible but not acceptable. The Canadian said too much clove the lingual is tasteless. The best taco I had was the pescado which was only mediocre.
We had some really good tacos and the guacamole is INCREDIBLE!
There was a neighborhood power outage and they were still able to accommodate our large group while providing AWESOME food and service!
Great food, but the staff is obviously still getting their act together service-wise.
Best real Mexican in DC.
Just GOOOO!!! You'll love everything!!
Awesome restaurant in the area!
This is a great spot in Ivy City. Love the atmosphere, decor and the staff are super friendly. The food is AMAZING! True authentic Mexican cuisine and you have to try the Elote!!! Definitely our go to restaurant for a nice causal evening.
Visited for happy hour and the tacos were all great! Can't beat the price and taste of the margaritas and the sangria is a must! Will be back very soon
Land Puerto Verde is a great choice for dining in the Ivy City area. Went for dinner and got a few items, the puppy asado and the tuna tostadas (both pictured) everything was tasty and we got full service at the bar.
Came here after a terrible experience at City Winery and wish I would've went here in the first place! Solid drinks, delicious food on the restaurant week menu and fast service. Even left my keys here and my waitress flagged down my Uber and saved me a massive headache.
Deeply, intensely, beautifully satisfying posole.
Friends of mine had been asking me to come to this restaurant for weeks because they said they have come here for weeks and love the food! I finally came out to join them and was excited. As my friends told me the menu had changed from the week before when they went. I ordered an appetizer because entree portions are usually too much for me and my friends ordered a fish and pork as main dishes. Now to the important part. When we got the food we couldn't believe our eyes...my friend who got the fish had this dish multiple times before and while she always got a whole fish with multiple sides includes, now she got only one third of the fish with a tiny bed of salad as a main dish and not a single side included for around $17. They didn't lower the price either, it was even more expensive now because you had to buy the sides extra! Now even worse my other friend who ordered the pork. First it came 10 minutes later than our food which is not fun if you like to eat together and we were only 3 people. Now the dish.. I wish I had taken a photo...I am not lying, it was literally one small piece with half bone in it and no sides at all for around $18. He precisely got 5 bites out of it!!!! My appetizer was bigger than their main dish and I paid $12! It is one thing if you open up an upscale restaurant with small portions and being more pricey from the start but if people come here regularly getting great food and good portions with sides and the next week you get THIS without any warning is not even funny anymore! Even though my appetizer did certainly taste good and was a good appetizer size, I will not return to this place and can NOT recommend it to anyone due to my friends food which was a complete joke!!! The one star is for my appetizer, otherwise I wouldn't even want to give a star at all!
Went here during brunch on a Saturday, so we missed out on the tacos, but the brunch menu was fantastic!! I can't wait to come back for lunch or dinner another time to try the regular menu items! Also, the place itself is really cool with 2 huge windows to let in the light and air.
Extremely high quality Mexican in a casual atmosphere.
Great spot - go for the weekend happy hour (Saturdays and Sundays) and you won't be disappointed.
Food is amazing. The margaritas are delicious and the staff is extra friendly.
Cute place, great corner with indoor/outdoor counters. The bartender was friendly and obviously enjoyed his job. I had a chicken enchilada with mole, black beans and rice. You can tell it's made with fresh ingredients. I can't remember what my bf ordered, something with steak, but it's the first place we've been in DC in the 3 years we've been together that he actually enjoyed AND COMPLIMENTED the food. He's a great chef and much more discerning than I am, so that was a pretty big deal. The menu is minimal, not sure if they change it regularly. (Would be good if they did). Mojitos were great. I expect this place to be crammed come summer time but definitely a place we'll patron again. Oh, they don't have maduros or tostones, which are my absolute favorite things in the world, hopefully, they'll add them to the menu.
Food was excellent, and service was good. Great flavor! I'd return.
The food was great. Good service as well.
Went during restaurant week with a group of 4, and we all ordered off of the restaurant week menu plus an order of guacamole. The food was all very good (except the churros which were too dense for our liking). The negative part of our experience was with the service. The restaurant was not busy, so we had the benefit of numerous staff members walking by and taking care of finished plates, refilling water, and bringing more chips. However, our server was not friendly, and it felt like we were inconveniencing her by being there. There were also two occasions when staff members took dishes we were not finished with - the guacamole and the churros. We even commented that we weren't finished with the guacamole, but the staff member laughed at us and told us he'd bring us some salsa. When you're paying $12 for guacamole, you kind of want to be able to finish it.
The food taste was very good , but it was dark not well illuminated, is not family friendly place. Very scarce menu options.
Just bad. Bad all around. Service was lackluster, inattentive, and would not acknowledge women unless spoken to directly by them ... Loudly. If I didn't turn to make eye contact with our server, then good luck to my wife to get his attention. Insensitive and inappropriate. Food was okay, but uninspired for the prices charged. Certain things did not seem cooked on site, but rather storebought and touted as authentic. You can't just plop a restaurant into the old warehouse district and expect it to do well because of the boom from nearby breweries, distilleries, and startups ... You still have to try. Do better.
Good food. The portions could be bigger for the price.
Authentic Mexican flavor. Fresh ingredients. I am from Mexico and I definitely endorse. Relaxing atmosphere, great service and affordable prices. A definite thumbs up.
Yes, yes, YES! La Puerta Verde and it's artisan tacos may just put DC back on the map for having good Mexican food. It's been year and years, but La Puerta Verde may be what DC needed to tip the scales. Here's why: 1) The food: Quality, tasty, and surprisingly more affordable than other top DC restaurants. For $10, you get three tacos and I recommend the carne asada, al pastor and the nopales (if you like vegetarian). All were good and full of flavor, BUT the carne asada wins the award for best taco on the menu. We'd go back and get six of just those! I can't resist a good elote and theirs is one of the best in DC. It comes on the cob, but sliced into four pieces making it less of a mess when eating. If you love a good cream sauce, the best thing we had on the menu was the Esquites con Camarones- sauteed pink shrimp, smoked corn, tequila and epazote sauce on grilled bread. It's flavors really pop and it's really, really, really good. Of course, every table gets complimentary chips and salsa and both are quality and good, including the red salsa. 2) The drinks: Turn your food menu over to find a larger than normal drink menu. The sangria (It's a white sangria v. a red sangria) comes in a tall and wide glass and it's perfectly sweet with peaces and mango slices. It's only $8! The pomegranate margarita is the best I've had in DC and beats Rosa Mexicano's hands down. If you like sweeter drinks, get either! 3) The atmosphere: From the moment you walk in, you feel like you're about to dine in one of Mexico City's best and inviting restaurants. The space keeps alive the industrial feel of its neighborhood, Ivy City, with the exposed pipes along the ceiling, but everything else evokes Mexico City from the beautifully colored tiles on the walls and ceilings to the wooden, open bar space and the simple cactus hanging from the ceiling. We went in August at 6:30PM just in time for the light to shine through creating an inspiring atmosphere worthy of an emperor. It was magical. 4) The service: It was attentive without being intrusive. Well done! 5) The neighborhood: It's located in Ivy City among a handful of great restaurants, a diner, and many distilleries. After dinner, I recommend walking three blocks to Republic Restoratives, the only women owned distillery in DC, and order one of their Civic vodka or bourbon drinks. The atmosphere is just as magical as La Puerta Verde. La Puerta Verde, well done! On a breezy summer night, there's no better place to be in all of DC! I raise my glass full of sangria in your honor!
$2.50 tacos all day on Tuesday. Need I say more?
Very expensive, not very Mexican
This place has the worst customer service.... I’m not sure if the bartender can not handle his job or he just didn’t want to work. I had to ask for water 3 times, I had to ask for napkins several times, I actually missed Happy Hour because the bartender took my order 5 mins too late and wasn’t willing to compromise..... so I ordered my food....which was tasty.... I’ve had better.... and when asking for my check I finally got I.T after asking 5 times and acting like I was going to walk out the door.... bottom line if you don’t have anything but time this is your place.... However they need better customer service training. I will not be returning.
The service was very slow until we were served. Took nearly 20 minutes to get margaritas. The taco and arroz diavla were good. I had the pulpo (octopus) and it was extremely chewy although tasty. The rice was excellent. Very slow to replenish chips and water. As soon as we ate the service sped up and the waiter hovered over us collecting the plates as each person finished. I was last to finish and our server collected my plate as soon as the fork hit it after the last bite. So waiting forever, then feeling extremely rushed. All in all ok food, high prices and a subpar experience.
Pretty authentic Mexican dishes, even comfort food like chile relleno - nicely done. Lots of hard surfaces in the bar and dining area, so if you want to have a conversation get a booth in the section with the fabric-covered ceiling.
Great service and food!
Our whole crew took a tour and ended up here for lunch. The owner is a success story in himself. The food was like no other.
Amazing food and drinks, sydney is the best bartender there hands down i only order drinks from her
Chile relleno was delicious, calamar a la Parilla was smoky and tasty! Good gluten free options!

Great selection of food and drinks and the interior decor is very fun.
The Elote here is amazing! Drinks, food, and atmosphere here are so much fun.
True Mexican, or so I'm told. Chili Relenos (sp?) are really good as are the tacos and more.
I got shrimp, grilled guac, pork tamal, steak tacos, and more. All excellent!
I went there for happy hour. The margaritas were very well balanced and the tacos were reasonably priced for city prices.
Tacos are very authentic! Rare in DC.
I really wanted to like this place but the service was so awful it was hard to keep an open mind. I would usually chalk it up to them being new... but they were actually surprisingly very rude and I found that our group had to go out of our way many times to order drinks, food and to even just get the check. The food itself was lacking and most of our group left hungry. The nachos were pretty much just a basket of chips, and the tacos were nothing special. All in all, a beautiful space that's poorly managed.
Everything we had was fantastic!
Amazing food. Will definitely come back to try other items on the menu.
Wonderful food , great service
Not the best mexican. Also way overpriced. My husband ordered the pork belly with a side of cilantro rice. They gave him three small pieces with small side of what looked like coleslaw style salad. His dinner ended up being $16.50 and he was not satisfied. Three small pieces? Seriously? I ordered the 3 for $10 tacos, it was nothing to drool over. I've had better mexican on h st for much cheaper.
Tacos, drink and Guacamole! Menu awesome
That guacamole though
Solid cocktails, delicious food, and amazing staff. Hit this place before it's too popular.
Very good! However I did not anticipate the pricey menu. Either way it was worth it .
Nothing bad about it...nothing great about it either.Average Mexican restaurant in the rapidly gentrifying Ivy neighborhood.
There are 6 waiters walking around and talking to each other but none can get me a straw. I asked for a straw for the last 15 mins, multiple times. I asked, they walk around, comeback to pick up the empty chips baskets or bringing drinks and not a straw in their hands. Horrible service and the the place is empty. Just got my food and it’s cold, I know they just took two out from the freezer but c’mon, microwave the food on high heat or for more mins.
The food was great and the interior decoration was colorful and delightful. The nachos and salsa were perfect. We'll be returning to this place pronto!
Had a great time at La Puerta Verde. Service was great as they very attentive, but not intrusive in case we needed our water glasses refilled and such. The 3 of us tried dishes recommended by our server and were not disappointed. I had scallops and shrimp on top of Chipotle flavored rice, my husband had chicken burritos with mole sauce and our son had the short ribs. We had chips, guaq and salsa and corn for appetizers and they brought a delicious flan like dessert for son since it was his birthday. The interior of the restaurant is spectacular, so don't forget to look around.
Overpriced. Nice ambience. Okay drinks. Good food. Basically a toss up for me, but there isn't much happening in this neighborhood yet, so take it or leave it.
The food was delicious and as a group that grew in size from 12 to 16, the service was very accommodating!
Best Mexican Happy Hour in the area, affordable, friendly staff, clean environment, and tasty! The fish tacos are amazing! And you can eat for days since tacos are only $2.50.
The house margarita was fantastic! Also, I would definitely recommend the tamale, awesome flavors and a great size for the price! This is a welcomed new spot to NE!
Nice place. Tasty food.
Great menu, food had great presentation. The service was good and the servers are very well trained. The open kitchen view was a very nice touch.
Good food and service
Superb meal! Had brussel sprouts, elote, guacamole, tostadas de calamar, skirt steak, whole fish and pulpo asado. Everything was authetic, flavorful and creatively presented! Great margaritas too!
Warning: I grew up in SoCal so I know my Mexican food! Corn tortillas are homemade. Carne asada taco had tasty tender beef. Pescado had an awesome mango slaw and crunchy battered fish. Elote loco (roasted corn) was packed with flavor. I basically ran through the happy hour menu and thoroughly enjoyed every taco. Flavors were punchy but balanced.
Absolutely outstanding!!! This is what Mexican food is about. We ordered tacos, tostadas and enchiladas. Everyone really enjoyed their dishes. I typically avoid Mexican rice but the rice and beans that came with the enchiladas were different than any others and a million times better. Our Mexican beer of choice is Bohemia which was available here. Well done chef!!! Please open one of these in Seattle.
Tacos were tasty and way affordable. Margarita's were really good.
There's a lot of things that can make a restaurant great. Atmosphere, charm, service, and food (to name a few). This place has it all. The food is fantastic (I got the Al Pastor) and the sangria is on point (not many places get that right). The service was also fantastic. It's lame, I know, but I tend to judge a location on how quick they are with refilling water. Let's just say you are never left waiting for anything. I also have to mention quality and authenticity. Being an LA native now living in the DMV, it's hard to find a solid Mexican restaurant. Which I'm glad to say that La Puerta Verde has been added to the short list of good Mexican spots I frequent. Overall. Don't hesitate. Come here. Eat good food. Drink good drinks. You'll be glad you did.
Okay place for happy hour! No vegetarian options at all! Drink was okay!
Been here 2 times. 1st time during restaurant week. Don’t know if it was a newbie blip but full dish sizes at restaurant week price = one happy party! 2nd time Sunday brunch with good friends. Everything was great! Get the sangria it’s delicious and will run out!
Great setup and ambience!
