FANTASTIC.... Go for the food! Go for the drinks the staff perfect! Go for the walls of bottles (Bourbon's the best). Go to smoke a cigar upstairs - awesome ventilation system. But whatever you do... GO TO JACK ROSE.

Went for drinks on the rooftop after dinner. Atmosphere was warm but lively, cocktails were delicious. Only complaint was speed of service. Most customers were at tables, but there was only one server (who was wonderful anyway)

My visit to Jack Rose is definitely one for the books. My fiance and I were bar hopping this past Friday and he was very intrigued by the reviews of the fried chicken skins, so we had to give it a try. There are a few levels of this place, and we were really wanting to stick with the rooftop, so we made out way to the top, where the atmosphere was so comfy and sophisticated. Of course, as with any bar on a Friday night in DC, there were many patrons, but not as many on the top floors. We found a nice quiet spot on the balcony that we liked, but with the humidity, we made our way back inside. There is a small, VIP-like room that is VERY well air conditioned with a couch and a nice table. My fiance and I sat at the bar there, where the bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable of the whiskey. We tried a bourbon, Basil Hayden's, and we definitely had to sip on that for a bit haha. After a couple more beers we left. While our time there was brief, we certainly enjoyed ourselves, and will be back soon. As for the fried chicken skins, we never even got them....lol

This review is late in coming, but this is a great place for dinner and drinks. The staff worked with us since we were 30 minutes early. We were seated in just a couple of minutes. Our waiter was the best. The food was great, a bone in rib eye cooked perfectly. We did a trust on a flight of bourbon. Our waiter brought 3 great selections. Highly recommend doing this, we were blown away. If you are a whiskey lover, you have to go.

Favorite place to share drinks and food! From their side selection of scotch (widest selection in our part of the hemisphere) to their attentive and friendly staff, Jack Rose is an easy place to go to and an easy "Highly Recommend". I prefer the upstairs experience to their speak easy experience downstairs but I will say that it is more quiet and intimate, easy to hear each other downstairs. If you're an avid scotch drinker, make your trip to Jack Rose and get the scotch eggs and chicken skins! They are delicious.

My family was in town and we visited a few different places in Adams Morgan on Saturday night. The last stop on our list was Jack Rose. My brother is a big fan of cigars and bourbon so this spot was perfect for him. He tried a international flight that included a Indian, European and Japanese bourbon. The bartender Shawn was very knowledgeable and informative while preparing the flight. The place was kinda busy but he was patient and answered all our questions, he even made recommendations on other items based on my brother's preferences. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is interested in scotch, bourbon or whiskey. The retractable roof was a nice feature too, it made for fun conversation for the group.

Amazing world-class whisky selection. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. The downstairs saloon is beautiful, somewhat rustic, great space. Upstairs has great balcony views, though a totally different vibe (shots and mai tai's versus sips and ties). This is a great place, highly recommend.

Make sure to make a reservation. If you don’t, well, the incredibly expansive whisky list is still at your disposal at the bar... and really, the massive collection of scotch, bourbon, rye, etc. (whisky in general!) is why you come. Do note that the bar service can be a bit slow at times. But it fits, considering you should be thoroughly enjoying your single malt!

I tasted #1 whiskey in the world followed by a rare find from the 70’s. If you like whiskey and bourbon, you need to visit. Whiskey menu has 71 pages of choices and 2687 bottles on the wall. Enjoyed 2 whiskey flights and dinner before seeing Hamilton at the Kennedy Center nearby. The flights were expertly curated, and the food was delectable! I had the Halibut, which was expertly cooked and was tasty and juicy. My friend had the rabbit ragu that had great texture and was also tasty. Came here again after the show for cocktails and they were well balanced and delicious! Chris, the whiskey advisor, was great and led us to some tasty choices.

Incredible whiskey selection! This was a recommendation from fellow Bourbon/whiskey enthusiasts and I was NOT disappointed! I could not think of a whiskey they did not have. The bartenders were very friendly and knowledgeable, able to make a recommendation based on your tastes and even offer a whiskey flight for those so inclined. The Tiki drinks from the rooftop bar were delicious as well. Will definitely be back!

Ate in the main dining room downstairs. Did a tasting flight of whiskeys as suggested by the bartender. I understand why this place has the largest selection of whiskey in the Western hemisphere. It's daunting when you have to choose and an amazing site to behold. That's why we ended up letting the bartender pick. He did an OK job only because he didn't pick whiskeys similar to the ones I told him I liked. Maybe he was trying to broaden my palette, or maybe he was trying to clear out lesser selected bottles. I'll never know and dont really care since I like all things whiskey. :-) Had the whiskey wings as a appetizer and they were amazing. We both had the price fixed dinner menu: Wedge salad, NY strip, and a chocolate mousse dessert to die for. Everything was fabulous. My only concern is that it's very expensive so not a place to go often. It cost over $250 for the 2 of us for dinner which is why it only gets 4 stars. It's not a restaurant for value... However, if you want to splurge and treat yourself, take yourself to Jack Rose. You won't be sorry.

My husband and couple of friends of ours hung out in the upstairs bar. My husband loves whiskey so he was in heaven and enjoyed a couple flights of whiskey that we never see in Florida. The bar also sells cigars which is always a nice touch. I am not a whiskey drinker, I ordered a dirty martini with vodka and it was atrocious. Not sure how its possible but it had no vodka or perhaps watered down vodka but thats what I get for ordering vodka at a whiskey bar. I didn't send it back. It was kind of late and we weren’t terribly hungry so I ordered the fried green tomatoes and they were delicious. They were served hot and there like 8 slices!!!!!! Our friends ordered the Ham and Biscuits that looked spectacular!! Judging from those appetizers, I wish we would have eaten at the restaurant downstairs. If I ever visit DC again, I’ll definitely put it on my list.

Great bourbon selection... Most abundant selection available on the east coast i believe... The scotch eggs were very good done in a traditional way... Fried Chicken skins were a little underdone which was a little off putting but i did enjoy the entire experience otherwise. Bartender knew his bourbons very well and was very willing to educate us on them. Would make a point in stopping back when in town.

We heard a lot about this place and went for dinner on a Sunday night during Labor Day weekend. I’d like to say that maybe we chose the wrong drinks to have but I wasn’t blown away by our visit there. The whiskey n bourbon selection is extensive and I’m sure there will be something for everyone who is looking for a new experience. I thought the food was a bit lackluster and nothing to write home about. My favorite was the sautéed Brussel sprouts. It gets a 6/10 on my personal rating for the food. It’d be a great spot for happy hour especially with the upper floor. A mixed review from me this time,

Whiskey Mecca. The list of whiskies they have is about 70 pages long. This is a great spot to try new whiskies without having to buy a whole bottle, or to try something uncommon without having to find one to begin with. The only think I don't like is that their droppers (for adding a bit of water) have caramel coloring in them. It would be better if they were plain water.

This place has a good ambience. The whiskey/scotch/bourbon selection is impressive, and they have a variety of beers on tap. I had good service at the downstairs bar, but when we moved upstairs, we waited over 10 minutes without bar top service or acknowledgement. Granted, it suddenly got busier, but it wasn't anything that would have been overwhelming for the 1 bartender. We decided to go downstairs for dinner service. Our server was helpful, and made amends for us not getting our drinks upstairs. The food was tasty, and arrived in a very reasonable amount of time. It got busier as our meal progressed, and our server was spread thin. We didn't get a beer we ordered, so we just asked to have it taken from our bill. At this point, I think they deserve a 4 start rating. It was removed, and the establishment insisted on serving it on the house. They brought themselves back up to a 5 star. They showed character, and that they really do care about service.

Truly great cocktails, but it's SO packed and loud that you can barely talk to the person next to you. I recommend coming late night when it's cleared out a little, and sit downstairs. They used to have a cucumber and gin cocktail that was the most delicious gin drink I've ever had, but they got rid of it! The rotating cocktail list means there's always something new to try.

Calvin was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and convinced us to come.Very nice place and staff our waiter was great as well. They made us feel like VIP ! If you're not into whisky, honestly they don't have many options, but the service more than makes up for it. I'm a gin person who got taken by a friend, and the bartenders were still knowledgeable and eager to please in any way they could, be it wrestling through the stockroom or other floors of the bar for other available gins. Also, beware, it may not seem readily apparent, but the entire second floor is a smoking area, since there's a retractable roof.

One of my coworkers have been trying to get me here since they opened. But me as a creature of habit was hesitant based on my current list of solid happy hour joints. Boy was I wrong, the Mac and Chz balls were amazing, fried oysters paired with sauce and garnish I could have ate 2-3 more orders. The main feature whiskey, bourbon, gin and everything in between was stunning. If I remember correctly they have around 2800 bottles in house and every drink you order comes with the history of the brand and how they create the syrups in house. Next go round I will definitely do some more flights and break the bank for some of the whiskeys I’ve been dying to indulge in.

Great place to grab a night cap after grabbing dinner in the area. Service can understandably be slow on weekends due to the post dinner rush, but the environment and specialty drinks makes up for that.

For some reason and I can't for the life of me remember, I flagged this place in my Google Maps as a "place in want to go" and last night I finally made it. Damn the place is great. Everything you read or have heard about the Whiskey varieties is absolutely true and the food, while somewhat of a limited menu is really top notch. We spent the first half of the evening at a "two top" dining table then shifted to seats at the bar. Yes, as one of the other reviewers has stated (giving a one star rating) the drink. They ain't cheap! So PLEASE do yours favor and go in there with that knowledge in your hip pocket. The staff was perfect. Just enough attention to keep up with your needs but not hovering enough to become annoying. Never made it upstairs but then again my delicate lungs probably couldn't take the smoke. I come to town a couple times a year and very much plan on going back. I'm changing my Google Maps tag/flag from "place I want to go" to a "Favorites" tag/heart!

Absolutely amazing whisk(e)y selection, and the guy who poured water never let our table of 10's glasses go empty, ever. Unfortunately that's where the good ended. Dishes were mediocre, I think we ended up getting everything on the menu between the ten of us. We basically wrote off 80% of it. Whisky pouring was inconsistent and resembled bad etiquette. I didn't spent a ludicrous amount of whiskey, but on my first pour (Dalmore 18), the glencairn was set in front of me, and the bottle. The bottle had a minute amount of whiskey left, which was totally fine. Except for the fact that the table beside us, who had both ordered flights, got their nearly empty bottle emptied into their glasses by the same waitress. My last whiskey (Van Winkle 10), was poured and given to me - the bottle was completely dry, and my level of pour was low, indicating that the bartender emptied the bottle and just gave it to me, expecting me to pay full. I looked at a few other glasses of liquor, and my pour was noticeably lower than the other 1 ounce pours. We brought it up with the maitre'd(?) who ultimately told me that I would pay 75% of the product. In LITERALLY every other semi decent and over whiskey bar, you will get that pour for free, or they will open another bottle for you to fill up that pour. Jack Rose did none of the above. I wanted one ounce, not .75, and I was fine with paying $39 for that ounce, but I did not want to pay $29 for .75 ounces. TLDR; Don't go here for the food, and watch the quantities of liquor you're given very carefully.

I went here with a couple friends for dinner. It was a spur of the moment decision that left me deeply satisfied. I love whiskey and bourbon and this place will not disappoint. I have never seen such a large selection of whiskeys and bourbons before. I selected a flight and recommend that for anyone that is overwhelmed by their offerings! Drinks are strong, food is delicious and ambiance and decor is spot on. Lastly, shout out to their staff for being highly trained on what they provide, great experience. Expect to drop a few hundred dollars if you go with a friend or 2 though so that you experience it properly.

We went with a party of 10. Reservations required a $30 per person deposit. Jack Rose had good reviews so I didn't look at the menu in too much detail beforehand. It was very limited. My wife has shellfish allergies and was basically limited to 2 or 3 choices. The service was pretty slow overall, and the food was pretty mediocre. Several items were way over salted and almost inedible. In a bizarre twist, the swordfish had no seasoning at all. It had a very bland, slightly fishy taste, and seemed like it didn't even have salt or pepper on it. The sauce on the dish was very good, but couldn't make up for the non seasoned fish. The cocktails were okay. Of the three I tried, one was good, one okay, and one not great. I didn't have any whiskey, but their selection was amazing. However, others at our table had very inconsistent pours; very unprofessional. Overall, overpriced, either under or overseasoned, and mediocre/slow service (other than the guy filling the water, he did great), poor food selection, and fantastic liquor selection. I'd recommend going for straight liquors and skipping the food and cocktails altogether.

Nice bar. Has an upstairs area with a lot of open windows but sheltered from sun and rain. Nice selection of whiskeys and reasonably priced. The upstairs does allow smoking (at least cigars). If this is not the case, they didn't stop someone from smoking when I was there.

Hella expensive, but if you're wanting to impress the guy or gal with a sophisticated presentation at "the Hogwarts of Whiskey" you're in the right place. Food was delightful and service was attentive. We received great recommendations. Otherwise, go spend your money upstairs for a more casual vibe on their rooftop. Summers are killer though, so prepare to sweat up there.

Unbelievable ambience with walls full of shelves with hundreds of different whiskey bottles. Truly unique. Has an upstairs ventilated smoking bar. Cocktails are good, food is good, it would be 5 stars for sure if it just had slightly more variety for people with dietary restrictions. If you want lots of whiskey variety tho, look no further! (Seriously. You'll look in vain lol)

House of scotches and bourbons. My ex boyfriend and used to frequent this place. Its very nice, has a wide selection of whiskies and the vibes are so cool. Being a high end bar, you know its not gonna be the cheap place so don't go when you don't plan on spending.
