Here we offer you all the reviews of real people who use the services and products of CHIKO (Restaurant) in Washington.
As of day the business gets a score of 4.6 out of 5 and that rating has been based on 292 reviews.
As you can read, it has an average rating is practically the highest, and it's founded on a very large number of feddbacks, so we can be pretty sure that the evaluation is quite credible. If people have bothered to leave their score when they are pleased, is that it works.
As you know, we don't usually stop to put scores when these are good and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or incidence...
This Restaurant is classified in the category of Chinese restaurant.
Great food, prompt service, reasonable prices. I went with my sister and her boyfriend for dinner tonight. The meal was amazing. I'll absolutely be back again.
If you are craving Asian, look no further. This place has what you need! Fried chicken, wings, spicy soups and rotating specials keep it interesting. Don't forget to try out the sauces. Keep in mind the Starter sizes are big enough for a meal if you're not super hungry. The soup with duck is fantastic, just add some spice and hot salt, and you're good to go.
Overpriced but good flavors.
Such a fun place with a relaxed and chill vibe... The customer service was excellent and only exceeded by the wonderful fusion of flavors. I highly recommend dining here!
Such good food. I walked past this place for a year without trying it, and I regret it. Its amazing.
Everything is fried. The fried rice was disappointingly bland.
Great food, but a little $$$ for counter service.
We were really looking forward to this, based on reviews, but the experience turned rather horrific. Seated at the counter with four seats, we waited 30 minutes with scant attention and no sign any food on a prix fixe menu was forthcoming. You can’t be rated tops when your approach to customers is at best helter skelter. Avoid this experience if you can.
The chicken wings and house fried rice will change your life! Ask for their house soy and drizzle a bit on top
All you need in your life is cumin lamb, orange-ish chicken, and potstickers. Would totally make a trip back to DC from NYC just for that.
I give 20 stars!!!!
Change Hours of Operation. Left my job that’s in an area with late night food to come to Chiko to grab dinner before going home and they changed their closing time by an hour without updating info online. So I got there at 10:30 only to find out they were closed instead of honoring hours advertised online. Not good business if you can’t be a reliable source of food for regulars.
To start with when I first sat down after the wait, the napkins were really nice, and the chopsticks split apart perfectly. Satisfying. Food was amazing, would recommend the Cumin Lamb Noodle Bowl. It was busy but considering the line the wait wasn’t bad, they managed to sit down 9 people in 30 minutes in their small space. Pros: Food was great Service was great Wait considering was good. Cons: It was super loud and had to really talk over all the noise. It was super busy and crowded. Price: The price was average for trending DC food stop, but not cheap.
Staff is really friendly and recognizes regulars.
Excellent food, but a bit expensive given the fast-casual vibe (at table service prices).
I'm only sorry that I didn't take pictures! The flavors were all authentic, as well as the setting. I felt like I was back in East Asia for a moment with those bright lights that make you forget what time it is. The staff was also very professional and courteous. If you want to do the full kitchen/bar tasting experience, make sure you book well in advance. My friend and I tried to book 3 days prior and within hours there were no slots left (mainly because the seating is *extremely* limited). Even their main dining room fills up quickly, but they do offer carry out for emergencies! We only had about a 10-15 min wait for a table, and we ordered a bit of everything: Chinese broccoli starter, rib eye and ricecakes entree, and the full monty snack bar. It was all amazing and I left completely engorged. My particular favorites were the bulgogi (rib eye) and broccoli. Looking forward to trying the Dupont location!
Get everything!!! Plan on coming back!
Best Aisan food I have had in a long time! I wish I can go there more often! fast and fresh food with great flavors. great service. the food quality is better than other fancy resaurants. try the stir fried rice cake and their dessert! I was a bit surpised when I first got there as the decor looks like a small chipotle, i was not sure i was ready to try another chinese fastfood. But what a pleasant surprise!
Fresh Delicious Tasty so much flavor in every dish
Great food! Small and intimate space. Danny is an amazing Chef. Definitely going back
Great food and service!
Canteen style institution with a very diverse menu and simply great food! They have a separate menu for vegetarians, just ask the staff to see it. We had 4 different entrees and each one was really good.
Simple yet elegant menu. We visited during restaurant week so had a good chance to enjoy the full menu. Orangish chicken won the medal.
Ordered twice from here while in vacation in DC via delivery site Caviar. Both times the food wasn’t great. Orange chicken was large portion and cooked perfect. Chicken wings (both types) are fantastic. Had the lamb Lo mein the 2nd time and it was great as well. All flavored very well. Wish we had one in south Florida.
The food is very good but a bit salty.
Just awesume! Detailed top Chef prepared dishes in an easy quick setting. If you want excellent well prwpared dishes in simple atmosphere then this is it.
Very disappointing...food doesnt taste chinese nor korean at all. Noisy and small.
Excelent food you have to try the dessert it is amazing. Awesome place 100% recommended
Great food
We did the $50/person chef's counter to celebrate a birthday and it was hands down the best meal I've had in DC in 2019. The service is welcoming and attentive - always willing and able to give context and detail to what each dish is and how it fits into the overall experience. We had the pleasure of having the royal menu and I still dream about the duck taco a month later. Split their sake or the beer and you won't be disappointed. They serve food until 11pm at night (12 on the weekends) which is a rare find in DC.
The smashed salmon dish was extraordinary.
3.5 stars. I came here with a friend for her belated birthday celebration. It's a fast-casual restaurant that fuses Chinese and Korean cooking. With a limited number of seating, you order at the counter, take a number, and find a seat. Your food will be delivered on small trays. Chiko was founded by Danny Lee (co-founder of Mandu) Drew Kim (co-founder of Matchbox Food Group), and Scott Drewno (formerly at the Source by Wolfgang Puck). On the menu, there were 8 appetizers, 6 entrees, a fruit bowl, and snacks. Perfect for ordering your own or sharing with friends. The snacks are an idea taken from Korean banchan, small dishes served alongside cooked rice. My friend and I decided to order: +Pork and kimchi potstickers ($9) +Cumin lamb stir fry ($17) +Wagshal's chopped brisket ($18) +Sichuan spicy cucumbers ($3) +Napa cabbage kimchi ($3) We got five potstickers in a sesame dipping sauce. They're extremely tiny and quite average. I probably won't be ordering them again. The Sichuan spicy cucumbers were not the best, very surprising given how simple and easy this dish is. The cumin lamb stir fry and the chopped brisket were the best dishes we got. The shredded lamb had noodles, caramelized shallots, cucumbers, marinated in soy sauce. The chopped brisket came with a soy brined soft egg, furikake butter, and rice. Both of these dishes were very filling and flavorful. I'm not sure if they're $17-18 worthy, but this is D.C. It can get very loud and busy here. Service was friendly and prompt though, which is always appreciated in restaurants that are crowded and overwhelmed with people. This is not an ideal place to go with a group of more than 4 people.
Delicious food!
Excellent food!
Excellent, tasty, not cheap but worth it!
The dessert!!!!!
Fire. Go for the bulgogi hoagie!
Nothing fancy, just excellent food. The flavors were not over powering, not too subtle, but very well balanced. Everyone really enjoyed what they ordered.
Delicious! Every dish punches you with flavor. If you can't handle heat, proceed with caution. Most dishes have chili pepper flakes, unfortunately. Great service, fast & friendly. Stop by for Restaurant Week late summer, it's great deal.
LOVE this place!!! The food is awesome, priced reasonably and has a great menu. This place beats out a number of higher end($$$) places. This place is a must go if you're in town and should be a regular spot for locals. Stop reading and just go.
Is the place small? Sure. But the food is amazing. The kimchi stew is my absolute favorite. Closely followed by the Korean fried chicken. Just wish they opened earlier.
We went and ordered to go, we got the Peking duck special and it was amazing, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the wait for a table on a Saturday night was not too long. Parking on a side street was easy enough to find.
Amazing food. If it weren't for Rose's this would be the best place on Barracks Row.
We had the Royal tasting menu, and it was all amazing. So much yummy food! For me, I should have held back earlier to save room for the duck towards the end, would be my only suggestion. It's so worth it to do the tasting menu - like "dinner and a show" in a way. Plus, you get a nice sampling of what they have to offer, in a really informative way. And their regular menu has a kid's option, so we'll be back another non-date night to try it out, family-style.
Fabulous food! Fast service. Super friendly staff. Price-to-flavor satisfaction ratio is a 10/10, far surpassing neighboring "fancy" restaurants. Must order the lamb stir fry! Amazing! Edit: had to return to this place a second time in one week. The cumin lamb stir fry is addictive. It's a culinary opioid. It's one of the best dishes in DC.
Good food & the service staff smiles were magical
I ordered the pork and kimchi dumplings and the house fried rice. Dumplings were delicious with the kimchi bits on top with spicy soy sauce. Fried rice was delicious with crispy fish and savory flavor.
Awesome food. Perfect after work spot.
Good food, but it's pretty cramped and could be tough to get a place to sit.
This place is trying to be too cool for school. It’s like they thought about their food last. Anyways, here’s why I think this place is two stars at best: 1. Sat at the counter and you can’t even see the food being prepared. All the heat from the stews filter over to you throughout your entire meal. 2. Only korean food was served. I guess orange chicken is Chinese but it was prepared in a korean style. 3. The dessert is from Dolcezza, cool... 4. The korean food is like different variations of leftover bibimbap served in little dishes. 5. Did I mention no Chinese food?! 6. Both noodle dishes were extremely soggy. Also soggy and under cooked were the dumplings. 7. When you checkout they strategically place 25% tip in a way that makes you choose it over other amounts. 8. That korean fried chicken was disgusting and had those little hairs in the chicken, even after being double fried. (Our server kept calling it pollo.) 9. They were serving a lamb dish on their menu but chose not to serve it to those who made reservations a month in advance sitting at the counter. So, don’t bother with that “experience.” 10. The neighborhood is rough so the good news is you can take your leftovers and give it to someone walking outside the restaurant because the food was mainly rice, cucumbers and NO Chinese food.
It was really really good, I didn’t think Korean food could have that much spin and variation but somehow they did it ... I knocked one star off because the 3 dollar sides are quite pricey and small for what they are, in traditional Korean restaurants, they would have been free, not to mention the entrees were all around 20 dollars and we had ordered 5 of them plus a lot of appetizers... and for food court style/take out, we felt that it was really expensive
OMG. Everything is delicious!!!
Always amazing tasting menu at the counter
Danny and Crew knocked it out of the park!! If you love Korean & Chinese it is a must!!!
Flavor, unique, colorful, what is not to love about this off the path restaurant? Chiko is amazing. Hard to find a place like this. Great food and service without the extra plates, forks, knives and white tablecloths or price. QUALITY ingredients is what sets them apart from the fakes. You can tell some time was spent creating the menu.
Some of the best dumplings I've ever had
Update, went back for the brisket and was much happier. everything was portioned perfectly, even the sauce. at first i thought it would be too dry but getting the egg in on the mix makes everything all right. They've done a better job with decorating place than DC-3. The food I ordered had good spices but needs some improvements to preparation and presentation. The lamb stir fry was basically layers of noodles on top of the braised lamb. Not exactly stirred. It had some greens in it that were really tough. I don't mind texture but this was like chewing on dental floss. The kimchi was fresh and may have paired better with a less spiced dish than the lamb.
I usually don't like these fusion laces, but the service ends the amazing lamb noodle dish changed my mind. Not a lot of searching but fast service, so problem.
Just wow! Amazing fast casual cuisine. A little crowded and small dining area, but the food is great. Nice friendly and attentive staff. Will be back.
A must go to place in DC. A hole in the wall but fabulous food and staff was excellent. Its a fusion of Chinese and Korean. We had planned ahead and asked for the chefs sampler. I must say every item was fabulous. Peking duck was beyond great. Would fly to DC just to eat here again!
Need to go back! Just to try the rest of the menu!!! Loved atmosphere and the food, of course.l! T'was a dank experience
Excellent
The tasting menu is well worth trying to get that reservation. Completely reasonably priced with exceptional food. It consisted of tasting 10 different dishes plus 3 small appetizers and delicious desert. A great combination of the familiar and the new.
The food was delicious! Each bite was so full of flavor
Good food. I've been to both China and South Korea and I felt their entrees did a good job of blending the traditional flavors. Watch out for the spicy dishes if that bothers you. $20 for an entree is steep for counter service. Cost: $$.
Its ok, the food too pricey
Love it
Unique tasting menu, good drinks, manager was super friendly!
The Unique blend of Chinese and Korean favorites. The Korean dumplings in broth we're well worth the $11. Smallish seating with counter ordering. The Chinese broccoli was a nice light meal. Might just go back
We got reservations for the tasting menu. Everything was wonderful. I'm glad we got this unique experience.
Delicious fusion of CHInese and KOrean flavors. Friendly staff, meals came out quickly. They take comfort food to the next level. Specifically the lamb noodles were amazing, as was the smashed salmon. As an added surprise you can purchase a 40' of Rosé. Good place to stop by to get a quick bite to eat before your night out.
Everything we ordered was tasty and full of flavor except for the orange-ish chicken.
Great tasting menu, and nice servers.
Excellent fusion food, quality ingredients, and friendly service. The atmosphere is more like a cafeteria, but service was very good.
Great food!
Wow! So good!
Great food. Cool atmosphere. Friendly service
This place is awesome! It’s a korean Chinese fusion restaurant but has some traditional korean food like kimchi and daikon. They even have soju and makkoli and it’s pretty cheap as it should be! This is my new favorite restaurant. I lived in Korea for 4 months and was spoiled with a korean mother’s cooking. I had the bulgogi with the rice cakes. It’s a great spin to bulgogi and korean Street food! I’ve had delivery before and had the custard for dessert and that was stellar! Haven’t had anything I didn’t like. They even have korean beer so when I come back with friends I will have to show them what 2/3 mekjus feels like!
We did the reserved bar seats where you get to try just about everything on the menu. The food was absolutely amazing. I will be back.
Amazing food, amazing price, amazing service.
This is THE place to go if you’re looking for excellent, affordable Asian fusion in DC. I especially recommend the counter experience, as it was well worth the money and every course was something new and delicious.
Prices can be high and atmosphere is minimal but food is delicious and staff is friendly!
Absolutely delicious and creative food. Love it! Yummm
Everything on the menu is 5 stars. Super place to eat. I Cannot say enough good things about the food. Staff was welcoming and super nice.
Absolutely delicious food. We ordered too much for two (suggest two starters and an entree), but each dish was unique. The brisket was particularly unusual--kind of sweet and sour and spicy. And the potstickers were so well done.
CHIKO is a fabulous and hidden treasure in our city. Hands down, one the BEST asian cuisines I've had in the area. My favorite dishes are by far the Orange Chicken, Brisket Fried Rice, Spring Rolls and the Lamb Stir-fry. If you are looking to expand your taste buds and open your horizons to new adventures, check this place out. Be mindful that their portions are big and you will definitely want to save some for the next day.
Noisy. Too expensive for an "Order @ counter & pick up yourself & only a few ugly tables to eat on. Day I was there wild banshee unsupervised tykes created an unbelievable yelling, screaming & running around ruckus!
Very small with a fun and vibrant atmosphere. Quick counter service with a smile, all the employees seem genuinely happy to help. I wish they had more/different hours, I would go more often! With a constantly changing menu it's fun to go back to try something new. Everything is always delicious, fresh, and expertly prepared.
I love their Strawberry Short Custard dessert and the food is good too.
The veggie rice bowl was decent. This review is I guess for the Korean vegetarians. The rice seemed like it barely touched a wok, if at all. The sauce was good, when you could taste it. The vegetables seemed to have been raw and then dipped into pickling for a minute, rather than actually pickled. There were four crispy fried mushrooms, but that was supposed to be the selling point. It had a lot of avocado though, so that's a huge plus. Overall, this place would be acceptable if you had a ton of money to throw around, and didn't care for very much taste other than raw vegetables and rice.
Simple menu, excellent preparation. I had the lamb stir fry over spicy noodles with a side of kimchee. The kimchee was just Chinese cabbage but had the right about of crunch, spice and acid. The stir fry blended a bold meat with tons of flavor. Large portions and reasonable prices. Semi communal tables or counter seating lends to an informal atmosphere. If I'm back in the area, I'll definitely be back.
Super tasty food, have never gotten something here I didn't like!
Delicious, quick place to get a bite. Very unique flavors with great service. Mango sorbet, fried rice and wings are outstanding.
Outstanding food. The House Fried Rice is amazing! If you eat here.... know it aint cheap; but the reward is delicious food and trendy atmosphere in the small space formerly occupied but DC3 Hot Dogs. Chiko is a foodie's oasis. Get some and share what you think.
I have known/ heard about Chiko for some time now, but when I would pass it on Barracks Row, I definitely was judging a book by its cover. I thought it was just a fried chicken sandwich place and I was never that drawn to it. Except this week 2 people recommended it so I went. I CANT BELIEVE I NEVER WENT BEFORE. Literally everything is so freaking good. 3 of us split A LOT of dishes and I couldnt even pick a favorite because they were all so good and unique. I will definitely be adding this to the rotation of food places I go to.
An amazing meal! And the food just kept coming! Excellent dim sum brunch.
Oh man is this place good?! It’s better than good and it’s also insanely cheap, what else can you ask for?
So creative, delicious, funky and fun. Come for the food. Stay for the bomb soundtrack.
This place is overhyped. Pricey for the insanely small portions (think I paid $12 for 5 small dumplings). Kimchi is a joke. Such a simple dish should always be made properly. Noise. Staff couldn’t care less about keeping noise levels at a reasonable level. There were three or four kids running around, bumping into tables and people, and just being outright loud and obnoxious. You’d thin this place is on Benning Rd with the way people were acting.
Amazing
My new favorite Korean-fusion joint! The wok blistered broccoli is a garlic lovers delight. And OMG the house fried rice with smoked, blue catfish is so awesome. Save room for the sesame custard desert - you might lick the bowl.
Great place to have dinner; Chinese and Korean food blend into an amazing dish.
Ridiculously good food. Didn't have one item I didn't like and my two other party members wholeheartedly agreed. Excited to come back for more.
Chiko is taking Barracks Row by storm. Replacing DC-3 in a tiny row house on the north side of Barracks Row near the Eastern Market Metro, comes a Chinese/Korean fusion fast casual. Open just a few weeks, it's already a favorite among locals and they are redefining fast casual food. When you walk in, it has a fast casual vibe. You walk by several community tables before going to the counter to order from their menu. As you read the menu, the items sold (and their price tags) make you realize you've stumbled upon something more. You are in a "fancy fast casual" restaurant. Once you come to grips with the fancy, fast casual concept, you're bound to stay and enjoy some of the best food Barracks Row has to offer. Order any of the dumplings or pot stickers for an explosion of flavors in some bold ways. The cold noodles are also very good and well prepared. Nothing was too spicy for my weak palate. If you want a unique DC food experience, come here. Here's to hoping Chiko is here to stay!
First time there and had a Rib Eye w/ Rice Cake. Honestly very delicious. The atmosphere is fun and buzzing, service is quick and friendly. Only took off one star for the price. It’s a bit tat pricey but overall pretty satisfactory
An immediate and welcome gem for Barracks row. The cumin lamb is out of control, same with the orangish chicken. We haven’t had anything less than great here.
The best comfort Chinese Korean food you will find !
Insanely good!
Lamb noodle stir fry was fantastic
The Wagshal's Brisket bowl is delicious. I would definitely come back. The only thing keeping me from giving the 5th star is the price.
Great addition to Barracks Row!
The food was excellent, I will be definitely be going back to try other things in the menu. The staff is friendly and very helpful when going through the menu and different type of beverages. It gets pretty crowded and the restaurant is pretty small just a FYI.
I am generally off put by hybrids, but I was definitely pleased with the food of Chinese and Korean mix.
Perfect combination of casual/fun and fine dining. Ordering at the counter is fast and easy and the food is exceptional. Bold, unique and interesting flavors. Don't be afraid to try something different or out of the ordinary — the kitchen knows what they're doing.
Awesome food in an unassuming environment, I'll be back!
Great food! Tasting menu is the best!
Service is great, food is tasty, and the vibe is unbeatable. This spot is the best. Shoutout to manager Brandon for really showing us what Chiko is about. Eat here!
We did the "Eat the Menu" it was amazing and worth every penny. So good!!!
Get the cauliflower while it's in season! The Year of the Pig special is amazing too!
Unexpectedly delicious. The service is also fantastic. Great place for a late bite.
Nice Atmosphere.. Great Customer Service
The food was delicious and the service is outstanding! You can tell the people that work there really love their jobs. Its a hidden gem in the Eastern Market neighborhood. I can't wait to go back!
Incredible food and service. They were very patient and accommodating to our food allergies. I had the best salmon I have ever had and my date loved the chicken. The chef is kind and approachable.
This place has delicious food. Even stuff I didn't expect to like turned out to be really good. The chicken spring rolls are fantastic and have a lot of chicken in them. The ChiKo G&T's also end up being great as they feature basil seeds with lemon juice and really good tonic water. We were there recently for Crab week, and the crab fried rice was amazing. If you can get a reservation at the chef table, that is the best way to go for trying things.
So super delicious. Omg can't tell u strongly enough. Eat here!!!
What's good? The Crispy Chicken Spring Rolls were the best, addictive. The Rib Eye & Rice Cakes was extremely good. The House Fried Rice was tasty with a nice spicy kick. The Garlic Shrimp Dumplings were delicious. The Double-Fried Chicken Wings (dry spice) were crunchy good but small for the price.
The Tasting Menu is a must!!!
Excellent service, first time customer from the DC area. A definite must try. They are a real good place for anything your feeling to eat. Chop sticks, makes it even atmosphere
Delicious CHInese KOrean food.
Nirvana between two chopsticks! Avocado salad was out of this world. Fine dining quality fast and affordable.
Amazing get in here and eat, try everything on the menu and come back for the specials. I come here every time I'm in town
Great combination of Chinese and Korean food.....Chi Ko get it
The lamb dish they had was AMAZING. Love this place and will probably go back every time i'm back in D.C.
We were visiting from Missouri and just happen to find out about this place on our business trip. The food gets 5 stars. Amazing flavors! It's a tiny place but the food is worth the wait. The chicken spring rolls were full of flavor and orange chicken was juicy and full of Asian spice and sweet mandarins.
Cozy tables and yummy food! Wok blistered broccoli, Kimchi, fried cauliflower, cumin lamb, avocado salad, chicken wings etc. Love the place. Only downside is if you're a group of 6 (or more)... Very tight for on one table or you'll end up splitting up.
Can't believe it's taken me so long to review this place! I went here a few months back after reading all these rave reviews. We started with the eggrolls which are uniquely shaped (read: really long and huge). Awesome flavor, very unique with thin breading/wrap on it. They were absurdly hot so it was hard to eat them for a bit but I really enjoyed these. I ordered the lamb cumin noodles and was impressed! I normally am not much of a noodle person but these noodles were thick and cooked very well. The cumin sauce/flavor really added a nice flavor to these noodles. I also got to try the kimchi stew, which was great as well. Seating can be a bit of a problem here since the restaurant isn't that big but the service was really friendly and efficient. I'd love to come back and sit at the counter eventually.
it's both true to original Chinese/Korean fusion, and interesting chef-ly takes on americanized Chinese food, it's definitely in the list of top contenders for my favorite delivery food ever
The food is different and it tastes good. I had an issue with my order and without hesitation I was brought a fresh dish, polite staff
Don’t trust any takeout menu or even their website menu. I was just poisoned with shellfish on their dumpling soup when both Postmates and their very own website didn’t say they decided to add crab to the dumplings. I count myself lucky I’m not dead right now.
Buckwheat noodles are my favorite!
If you can get reservations, do the counter. Fabulous experience. Kimchi potstickers, brisket entree...amazing.
Friendly fantastic place! You are immediately greeted once you enter, and handed menus. Staff was extremely courteous and easily answered any questions. They were quick with your needs and had no problem solving any potential problems. Food- daughter happily ate her children's platter(which they didn't mind holding back the fruit and ice cream till it was time) and my kimchi stew was amazing. Great portions and ingredients. Spice wasn't over the top, a hit of heat(I can't handle jalapenos) without overpowering. Husband bought a brisket dish he raved about as well. Definitely visiting again next time we visit
Place doesn’t exist
Cheap enough for the quality food and casual vibe
Chinese Korean (Chiko) is the best fast casual restaurant in DC. The service is quick and simple like your average fast casual establisbment but the food taste and complexity of the dishes sets Chiko apart. The dishes at Chiko are exquisitely crafted and taste like it. The food is pricey for fast casual but underpriced when compared to full service restaurants. Definitely stop in and grab a quick bite that sacrifices nothing.
Second time. Will go again. Some of the rest Asian food in the city
Delicious!
Wow. C.H.I.K.O. If I was being unfair I'd say this is be best restaurant I've been to. This is my new favorite restaurant. Korean food is very popular but many people still haven't all of their dishes. Chinese food is a miss miss hit. Yes I said miss miss hit. Amazing Chinese food is hard to come by. There are maybe 2 in all of DC that I say are cream of the crop. DC being the melting pot that it is has ultimately created this restaurant. I typically am not a fan of fusion. I always feel like fusion restaurants don't dive the really strong and fragrant flavors that make a dish. I usually experience toned downed versions of my favorite dishes. This isn't the case with Chiko... Let's start with customer service. Victoria knows the menu inside out. She can literally describe the flavors and how they are going to burst in your mouth. Just tell her what you're in the mood for and I'm sure she will satisfy your palette. Food isn't all about flavors. It's about balance of textures, aromas, flavors, presentations which fuels the whole experience. The restaurant is medium sized leaning more towards the small side. I personally love the industrial metal. It gives me a feeling that my food is being crafted by the Iron Chefs. It's also very upbeat and modern feeling. Hipsters you'll feel right at home. My favorite dish was the cumin lamb stir fry. It is spicy but to the perfect level. It gets really hot but never to the point where it's unbearable. The flavors are bold and strong. The lamb is so tender and soft. I personally love eating fat so when I got a hold of some small pieces of fat I was in heaven . The noodles had an amazing bite. They were thick enough to hold the sauce and move it around the dish. The scallions and mushrooms added earthy and fresh flavors. You just cannot go wrong with this dish. I'm going to move right into the clams. The Chinese love they're seafood. Black bean sauce clams are a very popular dish that are a miss miss hit for me. The clams here are... just to die for. They are bold in flavor. You get some hints of soy and spice from the chili . Don't worry there is no brine flavor anywhere. The clams body held the sauce well creating the perfect bite of explosive flavors. I could order 4 of these. I think I'm going to stop right here. I had many other dishes. I don't want to drag this review. This place has mastered the art of creating an unforgettable dining experience. If you're a fan of Chinese and Korean food you will not be disappointed. They have harnessed flavors from both worlds and married them together in harmony. I will be visiting again. I'm ordering the entire menu this time. Update... Okay...orangish Chicken... is actually my favorite dish here (I'm biased towards Fried Chicken). The batter was light and CRISPY. You can taste a hint of orange but it's not overpowering or obnoxious like you normally get with overly sauced versions. The sweetness actually comes from sauce that's on the side and garnish that's sprinkled all over the deconstructed chicken dish. The dish is prepared with dark meat. The chicken was just moist and utterly delicious.
From start to finish, we had the BEST experience. The food was incredible; each course brought a different flavor profile and an exciting twist. The brisket dish in particular with the medium-boiled egg was an experience in itself, mixing the ingredients to create a beautiful combination of flavors I cannot accurately describe. The crab rangoon was creamy and fresh. The half-a-cado salad is something I could genuinely eat every day of my life and be satisfied. The CHIKO salt in itself was enough to rave about forever! But the service was impeccable, our server, Brandon, had so much knowledge of the food and was enthusiastic about everything he put in front of us. The cooks were receptive to our questions and because we sat at the counter, it was great to see them working right in front of us. My boyfriend and I will definitely be back, and soon!
Decent casual Chinese - Korean fusion
