Went for happy hour with my cousin one Friday evening. We'd never been in before. The host staff were friendly and seated us promptly. The prices were definitely reasonable. We ordered a slew of
The food was really good and the prices were good for the amount of food you got! I got the pad thai and i managed to make 3 meals out of it! such a nice atmosphere and not crowded. check this place out!
Great sushi spot for after-work dinner. Lunch can get a bit crowded sometimes, but totally worth it if you can get a table. Their selection is pretty impressive, and everything we tasted was delicious. The wait staff were very friendly and attentive. We will definitely be coming back
Good food, decent prices. Definitely a nice atmosphere
Decent service. Best to go during happy hour
The Asia Nine Seafood Lo Mein was excellent. The Orange Chicken was excellent! The beer was warm, the sushi was meh and the service was teeeeerrible. Our actual server was at our table a total of 3 times. Bummer.
Looking for a happy hour to make you TRULY HAPPY! IDK what's in the MAI THAI but I will say, one had me feeling good, two was amazing, and the half of the third I needed a designated driver. They are so good it's amazing. Food came quickly and taste really good, service was great, scenery is great, it's off to the side so parking was easy. I have a new happy hour location when I want sushi or to be drunk before 6pm.
From 5 till 8pm happy hour!
Was told I needed to try this, as it is a favourite of one of my colleagues. Great food! I had sushi, it was fresh and they have a large variety.
solid asian food. excellent thai and sushi. 5 star value and consistency. really enjoy the flavors and not always on the menu duck rolls
Horrible. I ordered delivery and they did not read the delivery instructions. I did not get tofu with my meal, and my egg rolls came without sauce. The food was just so-so. I will never order from here again. Also, they gave no discount or anything at all as reparation. Never eat here.
Sushi was popular with the group. The Thai seemed a little plain. The lady at the table with me said the tofo tasted like nothing (I expected the seasoning in the soup to mingle). I had the tilapia and asked for Thai hot. The fish was over breaded and plain. The sauce was meh for spicy heat. Nice atmosphere and they did accommodate our group of 12 at lunch time.
Nice happy hour and wonderful staff
Great happy hour
Stumbled upon this place last year and ended up here again on the forth of July this year. I remembered it was good last year and I must say it was even better this time. To me it seems like a Thai Fusion place with decent sushi and some Korean dishes. The food is very fresh and tasty. The wait staff was very attentive. And I don't eat at a lot of restaurants in DC but the prices here seemed quite reasonable.
Quaint place with good food! I think it closes way too early on a weekend for it's great location but the experience is nice nonetheless. Very casual and comfy environment.
Recently food is really good
Very good food with reasonable prices ($15-30). Definitely recommend.
The food was really good. We each ordered something different so we could try different dishes and they were all very delicious. The strange thing was that we ordered two different Asian beers and were told that they didn't have any Asian beer that day. But they did have Mexican and American beer options.
Great happy hour deals, affordable sushi, extremely convenient location. Usually not too crowded and a good spot to hang out while waiting for a movie.
I got the Korean Beef and it was excellent. We sat at the bar and the bartender was friendly, helpful, and always on top of things. The people I was with got the sushi lunch box and really enjoyed everything.
Recommended!!! Awesome food.
Excellent food and excellent service.
The price of HH menu is decent but the quality is so so.
Unexpected find a couple blocks from our hotel. Great selection of food, the sushi was delicious!
Great food and service. The portions are huge.
The food was good, but VERY POOR quality staff wise. Rushing paying guests should NEVER be ok, in any establishment. And a waiter/waitress should ALWAYS assure that the guests are comfortable, not in need of anything, and friendly. Not the case here. Best word used to describe the waiter/waitress......HOSTILE!!!! 2 stars is being nice.
I had the crispy basil chicken. It was awesome and the portions were huge.
Good food, plenty of vegetarian options and it has the best selection of Asian (or at least Japanese) craft beers I've found in DC.
SLOPPY customer service from the server; even from the manager. Totally unexpected from a restaurant located in a prime location. Worst of all, they charged 20% gratuity for that terrible service!! There were 20 of us, and one ended up returning his food due to unusual delay in serving. That's just one example of a series of poor services we experienced.
The restaurant wasn't busy, but our order was wrong and they only had 2 of about 7 bottles of wine in stock. The food was tasty and the waitress was nice enough.
Fantastic food, and service. They were quick and efficient. The only bad part was a beer that was quickly replaced for no charge. Asia Nine had an expansive menu, as well as a fantastic selection of hot and cold Sake. This was my favorite dinner I ate on my whole vacation to DC.
I wish I could give a negative score. 4 of us ate here on Tuesday; 3 of us got food poisoning. We didn't share food. The 'poisonous' meals were: pad thai, chicken lo mein, and crispy basil duck. I can't imagine how bad the kitchen must be to make multiple people sick when they're eating three different dishes.
The food was delicious! I had the freshest sashimi.
This is our second trip to D.C. And our second trip to Asia nine. We loved the food and the service was excellent! We ordered the Basil Noodles, Green curry and Ta khai, all with tofu. We were a party of 11. Our food came quickly and every one's food was hot. The flavors were all distinct (yum), the spice was deep and satisfying. We will definitely be back again!
Was impressed. This is a very nice restaurant with a beautiful aviance inside. They have a really good Asian variety menu so I was very pleased. I definitely will go back again to try some other things on the menu, as other tables near me had food that looked really good as well. The service was also pleasing, no complaints there.
Food was okay, but not great. Sushi wasn't prepared professionally. Service was very poor. Staff was more interested in talking to each other than waiting on customers.
Just around the corner from the Ford Theatre... great thai and other dishes. What a nice surprise this place was and the prices were great for DC.
Asia Nine was pretty good. Nothing special but decent Asian food and a fun change from the usual working lunch. Green curry is tasty and on the mild side. Veggies are fresh and brown rice is available if desired. Sit at the bar for friendly, casual service. A decent option for no fuss food; probably not somewhere you want to take someone on a date.
Crab wontons were yummy. Calamari was Eh. Only came with enough sauce for 3 pieces. When you order more, don't expect to get it. Waited 15 minutes for waitress to bring the check and another 10 for her to come get it.
We got an appetizer and 4 kinds of cooked sushi. All were prepared perfectly and with nice display.
Wonderful place, diverse alcohol selection, average table service, and a competent staff that run the restaurant. I always come back here when I have free time in D.C. also grab a bite here to eat on days I work
Delicious!
The place for your date, lunch or dinner. Very fast servers/bartenders and variety of Asian delicious menu options to choose from. Such a lovely place. Great job by the manager Mr. Park. I will definitely visit again
Surprisingly good sushi and good happy hour deals for downtown. Would recommend if you're in the area and are making a value or time-based decision for dinner.
NOT FAMILY PLACE AT ALL! BAR ONLY AND PLACE JUST TO GET DRUNK ! WE DON'T AND NO NO, SLOW AND LAZY STUFF ! DON'T EVEV THINK GO TO CELEBRATE BIRTHDAY OVER THERE! THEY DON'T KNOW IF THEY HAVE CANDLES AND WHEN THEY FOUND THEY DON'T SING A SONG LIKE OTHER RESTAURANTS AND EVEN BUFFETS DO ! JUST PUSH THE PLATE AHEAD ON THE TABLE IN DEEP SILENCE AND VERY UNHAPPY FACE !( IF YOU STUCK UNDER RAIN AND YOU ARE NEW IN THIS CITY FOODS IS OK ! BUT MENU STARTS WITH BIG LIST OF ALCOHOL AND NO CALORIES INFO !( NO INFO ABOUT GMO IN INGREDIENTS ALSO!( NO PAPER NAPKINS AND YELLOW ONES IS SUSPICIOUSLY NOT FRESH !( AT LEAST THEY HAVE BROWN RICE ! PLACE FOR DRINKERS NOT FAMILY ! ( TEA POTS AND RESTROOM NEEDS UPDATES AND DEEP DEEP CLEAN ! BUT AFTER COUPLE OF DRINKS WHO CARES !?( NO MORE FOR ME !(
ALWAYS great food, ALWAYS good service - this fusion restaurant is everything you never knew you needed! They've got Pho, they've got fried rice/noodle dishes, they've got sushi, and it's all delicious! They're happy hour is insane! The amount of food you can get for ten or fifteen bucks is incredible; it's just the best; highly recommend it!
Waited over 30 minutes to receive our alcoholic beverage, and then waited ANOTHER hour for our food to come. It never came, even though we were told it would be coming soon multiple times. My group ended up leaving hungry because of the wait and were almost late to the theatre because it took ten minutes for us to pay. There was certainly no more than 40 people in the restaurant. We were given nothing- not even a apology- for our wait and were given no breaks on the bill for having to wait and then we had to eat our food on the street as we ran to the theatre. I would highly recommend another resturant if you want any service (or food) of any kind .
this place is good and has some great happy hour specials. be careful when they get busy the sushi can take awhile to come to the table. service is a bit hit or miss but generally good every time I have gone. food 3.5 service 3 atmosphere 3
It was nice nice ambiance. Too much mushrooms in my soup though
Very nice atmosphere and the house wine is Devine....
Great choice to eat in DC. The sushi is fresh, and the place is nice. The location is also great, close to the attractions, but far enough so that it doesn't get crowded.
Great atmosphere and great food. Sushi was a hit!
Ordered a number of dishes, including the Seafood Dynamite Roll. With exception of the roll (way too much sauce), everything was great. If you have not tried it before, it is well worth a visit.
Overpriced cocktails and lacking ambience
Great Chinese, Japanese, Thai fare in downtown DC that won't break the bank. Just go if you want good food. Interesting imported beer too.
I love udon. This is soft-shell crabs udon. It was good. I would eat here again anytime. @ Asia Nine Bar & Lounge
This restaurant is an overlooked gem that does nearly all of its entrees successfully. When other restaurants in Penn Quarter are packed to the max, you can probably find a quieter spot here. (That's probably because unlike the other places, Asian 9 is overshadowed by the ugly presence of the FBI building across the street.)
Great place to get a drink after work.
Fast service, really good food, appropriate portion size. Most sushi places I've gone to are plagued by slow service...the speed of Asia Nine alone puts it ahead of the pack. Delightfully classy and comfortable atmosphere and really good food all the way down to the presentation make it an all around highly enjoyable experience. Would like to see them find a replacement for the straws that are no longer allowed due to DC's ban, but I'm sure they'll get on that soon enough.
The interior is so so but green curry was great!
Extreamly good food and service. May be the best Asian restaurant I have ever visited.
Loved the lobster roll special! Everything we tried was delicious.
This place used to be packed all of the time, but now it's like a desert. I wondered why and I found out. The service used to be stellar, however it has gone down in quality quite a bit. The server never introduced himself or even said hi. It's a shame because the food is aces! The sushi is fresh and delicious, the tempura is fantastic, and the karee curry is divine! I hope they can pull it together and provide better service, especially since the food is so good!
I'm not big on Asian restaurants, but this place knocked it out of the park for me!! Great food, service, drinks, the whole sha-bang! I will definitely be back!
Happy hour deals are decent. Staff is super nice. Overall quality of sushi is above average.
My wife and I along with our 2 kids had a wonderful dinner here. My elder son and I are sushi lovers. We are coming back here!
I've eaten here two or three times. I find it to be very good thai/asian food. If you want spice, they got spice for you.
The pad Thai very good & The Fried Rice very good. We want coming back again. Also the server very polite & manners
Never crowded when I'm here. Always good food
One of a randomly visited restaurant while in town that serves Asian food. Asian as in Japanese, Thai, Chinese, and even Korean dishes which tasted not bad at all. Served by a well knowledge friendly assistant, and a fast serving dish, this restaurant was good for family with kids. Baby chair and toilets were available, and we could order the less spicy for the children as well. Overall, this place was a savior for us that night. Not only a savior, but also a proper dining place with a decent price as well.
The food is so fresh and good. I am not a big fan of Asian food, but I will eat here anytime. Beautiful restaurant and fast service.
Great food and service, the only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is for appetizers, we ordered a sushi roll, spring roll and crab Rangoon. The sushi roll came after we received our main entrees. For dinner I had the Korean sizzling beef which was flavored perfectly.
Such a lovely place and veeery nice staff!
This restaurant offers so much more than just sushi! The ginger chicken was scrumptious and bursting with flavor, the texture of the white rice was just right, and the hot sake was the perfect accompaniment. With fast and friendly service to boot, it would be an understatement to say I was happy with my dining experience here. Also, the restaurant is conveniently located across from the FBI building, a few blocks from the National Portrait Gallery and close to the Smithsonian.
I went with a large and made a reservation ahead of time. I ordered their daily special: miso honey crispy duck. The food was ok but they gave u big portion. If u r looking for a spot for a big group to catch up or for a family for a decently cooked meal but not a fancy night out, then this spot is definitely a good choice
Great sushi and plenty of other Asian offerings. Great happy hour options. Hot sake is a must try. Hibiscus Mojito is a have to have. Sushi is excellent. Try the edamame, crab wontons, and steamed dumplings for appetizers. West coast roll is fantastic. Great location in Chinatown close to metro station. Fast service. Great atmosphere. Friendly staff. If in the area, it's a great place to eat if you're looking for top shelf Asian fare.
Old reliable. Come before lunch rush for best food/service.
I've been twice during my stay in DC. I'll definitely be back in future visits! They were so friendly and attentive. Plus their sushi was amazing!!!! Out of all the sushi places where I've eaten, this was the only one to give me enough extra Ginger that I only had to ask for extra one time! Usually places are stingy with their Ginger. Yum! I HIGHLY recommend Asia Nine!!! Also, the playing of my sushi was very artful.
Good food with large portions. Only drawback was a big cockroach crawled on my aunt's shirt.
Happy hour all day Saturday and Sunday!!
Everything was delicious & service was fast and friendly.
Lovely place, awesome bartender, I'm going back forever, thx !!!
Good ambience, a lot of seats and nice staff. If you wanna order the happy hour menu, you need to seat by the bar. The happy hour menu is all day. My favorite was the hibiscus Mojito. They have 2 rolls sushi for $10 which is a good deal! their bento boxes are delicious too, but it’s for lunch time only. It comes with 2 crab Rangoon, 3 piece of sushi, miso soup and salad, fried rice and your choice of meat (salmon or chicken). They have a variety of food from Thai, Sushi, and most South Asian countries.
Freshest tasting sushi and very nice staff!
The Thai food was awesome and authentic.
The food wasn't very good and the place where we were seated wasn't comfortable to me.
Delicious sushi!
A Pleasant Sojourn I stopped by Asia Nine a little after 5 on a Monday after reading some reviews and hearing good things about their happy hour food deals. The place was pretty empty, and, after the requisite awkward interaction that seems to accompany dining on one's own, I was promptly seated in the front area by the sushi bar. Despite research listing a few times for happy hour (all of which I was within), I only received a normal menu. I later gained the inkling that one needs to ask for happy hour and is then seated over by the bar, as I saw happen to one couple. I do not begrudge my lack of Sweet Deals; I ought to have inquired. I ordered a spicy tuna roll and a beef panang curry, both of which were reasonably priced based on what I've come to expect from the area. The sushi arrived quickly: six pieces, but a bit larger than the average sushi I've formerly encountered. The flavor was fairly good, and it was the first spicy tuna roll I've had in a long affair with ordering them that actually had a little bit of spice to it. It isn't super spicy or anything, but it is, thankfully, noticable. Another piece or two of ginger would have been welcome, and while the flavour was good I would have liked to taste the fish a little more. The beef panang curry comes with broccoli as its vegetable. The broccoli was fine, but a little firm. While the curry itself did not rank among my favourite panangs (it is my go to), the beef was among the best I've had in my curry taste/texture wise. It was thin, tender, and had a nice flavor to it. The curry was acceptable, but lacked a bit of depth.. perhaps striking me as a caricature? Not to say it was bad, just that it seemed exaggerated in the notes of that make a panang, without whatever secret subtlety usually makes me eat every last grain of rice added to the remaining sauce. I would definitely return to Asia Nine to try getting to Happy Hour, but I see myself trying a few other Asian (or a more directly Thai) restaurants before returning for another pure dinner, despite the pleasantries of the beef.
Love the food, drinks and service.
Always great food and inexpensive for a nice place.
Went to Asia Nine for New Year's Eve 2017 and they took great care of us. I've been there for a few dinners and happy hours as well. The food is really good and their specialty drinks are also l great.
Service was awesome... Recommended a saki that was great! The only reason I give this place 4 star, is a very uncreative and lacking sushi menu.. While all of our food was delicious, I was surprised at the sushi menu. I will definitely come back, though!
We recently visited the Washington DC area and were pleased with this restaurant. Great prices, great service and most importantly, great food. A real hidden gem.
Excellent service and delicious food. Huge variety!!
Good sushi, on the expensive side, the spicy tuna is VERY SPICY! Greta ambiance and fun to see the government guys coming in too!
Went here for restaurant week. Great service and lots of interesting food options. Were out of A LOT of beverage options, but it wasn't bad
Came right at 4 pm on a Tuesday. Nearly empty. Happy hour is available at the bar or on the patio. Pretty typical menu, service, portions and taste.
I could easily give this place 4 star or better. Great food, good service only one problem. The bill came with a 20% gratuity already included. 15% ok, maybe 18%, but not 20%. On top of that the bill came with tipping guidelines at the bottom. A person not paying attention could end up tipping over 40%.
Food wasn't bad but the service was lacking. No one was really attentive to our needs and service was slow even though it wasn't busy. Just saying it could've been better.
Pretty expensive but overall love the food
Expensive water
We went there tonight with a group of 12. The food was amazing. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Service was spot on. Great cozy atmosphere.
I used the ritual app to get pad Thai for $1.00, and it was delicious.
Good cocktail, good service, so-so food
good taste of extreamely clean food. nice and kind staff
A fun place - great food, good drinks, and a stellar happy hour menu. Lots to try and excellent service from the very helpful staff.
Quaint, relatively inexpensive restaurant. My daughter had sushi and said it was great. I had the Asai None to mean, which was fantastic.
Great food, great service.. cool
Visited Asian Nine a few years back on a date and decided to come back randomly with my same guy... Lol. The food is amazing and plentifully. I had the Pad Broccoli with Seafood. Everything was cook to the "T". Happy Hour is all day Saturdays and Sundays. I recommend the Hibiscus Mojito... Yummy. I will be back.
Good happy hour deals, both food and drink. You can get a couple rolls of sushi for a good deal during happy hour and the drinks are also for a good price. It was fairly empty when I got in around 6pm on a Thursday, but quickly started filling up a bit. My favorite thing for the happy hour food was the shrimp. The wings were ok, but more just fried chicken wings with a bit of sweet chili sauce on top.
Wonderful Asian restaurant. The lo mein has a wonderful kick to it and the sushi us spectacular. Device is attentive without being over bearing. Can't wait to go back
Very friendly and delicious food!
Good sushi and great waitstaff
Went here for happy hour. Happy hour deals were ok, but in general this place was overpriced. The service was kind of slow, but the thing that irritated me the most was not the cockroach crawling on the bench, but the fact that all of the staff just stood there and stared. Nobody did anything to try to kill it, AND, no compensation or even apology was made.
The Peking duck rolls are amazing. This is a great spot for Pan-Asian food. You won't go wrong eating here.
Loved this place since the first time I went on my first date with my now wife. Great food. From the chicken to my wife's favorite, pad thai. Drinks are made very good and the staff is warm, welcoming, and attentive to your needs. It's more of a casual place but its okay to dress up there. Plenty of things to try. And you cant go wrong with the fresh sushi options. Plenty of seating. Not a noisy place at all. Love it
Sushi and soup was great
I was kind of annoyed that happy hour was only at the bar so we missed out but the food was undeniably good!
Everything was deliciously perfect!
Food is delicious like I eat in Thailand but I just tried only pad krapoa,I d recommend to my friend ,thai ice coffee I don’t like it ,price reasonable for DC areas
Great tasting, fresh food with a creative flare, awesome customer service. Great happy hour too.
Very tasty. I chose one of their duck entrees and it was cooked correctly. My companion was very happy with his meal and we didn't have any left to take home, so the portions were perfectly sized. It was quiet enough for a close conversation. Our seating looked out large windows to the street.
It is affordable, in an increasingly unaffordable area. Decent sushi. OK Thai dishes. I also like the bar for just after work because it is quiet and they do have specials. Comfortable, but nothing special
Great food! Great drinks & great staff!
Great great service, food and staff
Great place for a quick stop for lunch in DC. The Thai noodles were very good. Prices reasonable service quick recommend for a quick lunch.
really good Asian. lomein is so Asian style.
