This Restaurant belongs to the category of Mexican restaurant.
Typical Tex Mex food nothing really stood out, Margarita pitcher was watered down full of ice. Happy hour portions are extremely small. The only upside is the customer service. Very polite and attentive wait staff.
Great food and excellent service!
Drinks strong the fish tacos weren't fresh and overpriced. Smelled like bad box couldn't eat.
Best texmex in DC period.
One of the few spots on U/14th St. That you can grab happy hour food at. The place is decent order all. Cookie cutter Mexican food. Is a great time if you looking to party or with a few friends.
Waited for 30mins with no server, went to complain and still no server, when me and my party decided to leave the mgr was called and he only offered to switch server since the "one" assigned to us was slow.. Just a total waste of time and dissatisfaction!!
Celebrated a birthday there! Great food, friendly staff and quick service. I tried chicken fajitas and tacos, they were both really tasty! Definitely going back soon!
It's just OK... Need to try harder to find a real Mexican taste
Weekly lunch specials are great. Service is fast and the food tastes fresh.
You should be honest to customers, just because I'm a out of town vistor does not mean take advantage of me we are all Americans in America.
Love this place.... I went on a Saturday night and it was somewhat crowded but the food and drinks was amazing I’m definitely going back
Great food. Speedy service. Good drinks. Good music. Loved the atmosphere! After midnight they moved some of the tables out of the way to create a little dance floor. Btw, I ordered the seafood chimichanga which came with shrimp and scallops. Yummy. Everyone at my table (11 people) enjoyed their meal. I would definitely recommend anyone to make this place a spot to visit while in DC.
Can't go wrong with great food and dancing. The music was great and so were the drinks. Will definitely return!
Good brunch price
First time there and it was great!!! I recommend to try the Mango mojito!!!
Went here yesterday and walked in and asked the heavy set hostess at the front for a table she started looking around lost, when there was
Service: thumbs down. I specifically asked for well done. They fixed it but with an attitude
Customer service was ok drinks a little water down
Very live ambience, especially on a Friday with music and lights. Great menu selection with excellent taste. Birthday celebrations are one-of-a-kind.
The service was outstanding & food was delicious
Was an hour late for my reservation. They sat my party immediately. Customer service was great and so was the food and drinks! I will be back!
Great food
The food is average texmex but tye space and staff are great.
Definitely a place to go when visiting DC. The place had energy, good food, and good music!
The vibe is what makes Alero pop. The margaritas are ok, but strong, which is good. The food is more along the lines of Tex Mex than actual Mexican. I played it safe and got chicken tacos. They had a good flavor. I would go back, but more so for the atmosphere than anything else. Great servers!
The management is racist. The food is OK at best. The drinks are weak. Definitely go to Alero if you want subpar tacos and terrible service. I wish I could give this awful establishment negative 3 stars.
Great place for wings
I came here while browsing among U st and it was a Sunday and VERY empty. The waiter came to the table, proceeded to take our drink order, we then placed our drink order and then proceeded to order since we were hunter. Had no problem placing the order. AFTER the order was placed the waiter then proceeded to ask for a method of payment And ID.....why? I’ve visited here SEVERAL times and since when is it common to ask for ID and method of payment before delivery of ANY services? When it’s two black men? Of course. Now could as high as to name the waiter? Of course but to ask for an ID for ordering a cup of water and sprite?. Racism exist.
Omgeee! The staff was so attentive. Wilfredo is awesome. Super sweet and makes sure you are good all the time. Lourdes, the host, is great! Food and drinks are good. If you're are disappointed going here I don't know how. Go and enjoy!!!
Great Brunch Great Tasty Food love it I'll be back Great Customer Service Gracias I'll recommend this place
Food wasn't bad but far reaching policy of requiring credit card AND driver's license (WTH!) from all patrons BEFORE they even order scratches this one this from the list of places to which I'll return.
I came here on a recommendation of a friend to go dancing. Honestly it was pretty fun and I would recommend it to those who like contemporary (and popular) Spanish music. Though it's a bit small it luckily wasn't particularly crowded. The drinks were alright and it was clean inside so it was an overall good experience. I haven't been here during the day to eat so I can only speak on the Friday night experience.
Food was great. Service was excellent will return.
The food was great best shrimp taco I have ever had. Manager was friendly and hard working. Great place to eat.
Inexpensive happy hour, but the downside is a limited number of food and drink offerings. Festive atmosphere and adequate service; good place to unwind after a long day
Roni is kind and an amazing server!
Heather at the bar is amazing. She so nice and her drinks...are to die for. She actually interacted with us and wa extremely funny and cool. I appreciate her service and when I come back she will always be my bartender.
Great Margarita, good food, we'll be back.
Good food and decent parking if you know the area.
The food was ok. Nothing to brag about.
Very nice atmosphere!
Can get crowded with at happy hour, but they have good matrimonial margaritas and pretty good Mexican overall.
Favorite place to get drinks and Spanish food.... their shrimp quesadillas are delicious.
Good drinks and atmosphere
Great Happy Hour for beers, the margaritas and mixed drinks are not very good. Food is mediocre but for the price one of the best happy hours.
Super fantastic Mexican
Low key spot to eat drink and dance. Very chill vibe, music goes between Hispanic and hip hop, and the food is worth eating.
Service was lacking but the food was good and drinks were decent at happy hour.
The customer service and food selection is great. Nice place to get food before heading out to the nightclubs on U Street.
This spot is a good margarita stopover. Their food service is just okay. You can see people you know randomly sitting on the patio having a drink. They had a few racist incidents with management so people have slowed down coming.
Good, delicious portions, fast & efficient service. Wish they would've inquired about separating the bill among the small group I dined with since we ended up having to leave in a hurry. Luckily, we settled it, timely.
Love this place good food, music and staff ...definitely will frequent more often !
Seems like a pretty poppin' place. Appetizers and drinks were great. Staff are attentive and friendly. My steak is where Alero went wrong. Ordered a medium rare steak. I'm sure they cooked it to medium rare on the grill... but they serve it on one of those hot fajita skillets... which cooks the steak even more... why? It was also served with a whole chorizo sausage, which was a bit dry. I don't know that I'd come back for dinner, but for some evening apps and drinks, most definitely!
Came here on St. Patty’s Day weekend when it was super busy & the service was AMAZING! The wait to sit was 15 min and there was a server to take our orders as soon as we were ready. No complaints about this awesome establishment!!
Pretty nice fun Restuarant. Great drinks and pretty good food. Service was a hit or miss. But the Music was pretty good and it pretty much turns into a night Club at 11pm
I used to actually like this place, but now I think it's lost it's edge. Service was kinda slow and there wasn't enough people inside to have the AC on full blast. And my food was not good that day. I'm going back to authentic food.
I Love coming here u can definitely feel special here. Awesome customer service!
I’ve been going to Alero for years and they NEVER disappoint! From the food, to the music, to the service, everything is always excellent! This is one of my favorite places to go on U St, I definitely recommend it!
Delicious food! Excellent and fast service. We were in a rush to get to a show and needed a quick bite to eat. We were a little worried that we weren't going to have enough time for a sit down restaurant but Alero had us in and out in no time. Highly recommend!!
Great place for happy hour. They have a weekend happy hour as well which is a plus. Food is good and the drinks are as well. They have brunch on the weekends too.
Music was loud and place was rowdy even at 3pm after lunch hour. Food serving portion was adequate and pleasant. Staff were attentive
So, let’s start here... I AM BLACK/African-America male. I came here to dine as I have MANY TIMES over the past 14years, in which, I have resided in the DMV area. Today was the FIRST time I have ever been treated with such disrespect and utter racism. As someone that dines out 5-6 times a week due to my personal work-life balance, I was quite offended when I ordered my meal and was IMMEDIATELY asked for my ID and credit card after ordering menu items for my guest and I, which included a Sprite and water as our beverages. I was told that this is a policy for all guest to present credit card and ID upon ordered anything off the menu. I will not be returning since I felt this is the new policy for BLACK patrons only. I find that HIGHLY UNFORTUNATE as I have patronized this establishment for years! To include celebrating my 21st Bday over a decade ago. Alero, I am disappointed. This will be my last visit-
The food sucks, service is decent. I would never come back for food, just drinks. How can you mess up nachos? They will.....
The food is good but expect terrible customer service. We waited almost 20 minutes for them to swipe our cards and it was not even that busy. Do not come here if you have somewhere to be.
I love coming to Aleros! The staff is always so friendly, attentive, the food comes out quick and hot. The food here is so good, the drinks are good, the prices are reasonable, the quantity of food are great portions for each plate. The music is entertaining, when it's your birthday they make a big deal and sing to you and play instruments. The location is directly across from the metro, this place is always clean. Whether you come for brunch or to party at night, it's place is great.
Ordered an appetizer and 2 entrees. Everything came out at the same time and drinks after that. Ordered fajitas and were only given 3 tortillas, which are not enough for the amount of food provided. Asked for additional tortillas and were told there was an additional charge.
Good authentic food. Great service Everytime we go.
Shrimp quesadilla was delicious!
Sangria and chips were quite tasty together
Stopped by for Birthday Brunch! The food was good, the birthday song was great, and the service was amazing. They wouldn't let me keep the hat though!
Horrible service. I ordered an appetizer, requested twice, and had it served as my meal. By then I was full with chips. Everyone’s orders were served except mine. I waited about 5 minutes and asked where my plate was. They pretended they confused it with another plate. Funny cause I never got a plate. Not even the wrong order. By the time I got my plate everyone had already finished eating. And of course they had not even considered to take it off the ticket, or even considered taking the appetizer (that was served with our order) off the ticket. Sad cause the food seems pretty good. I don’t think our group of 10 will be back.
So, I can say that the place maintains its standards. This time I ordered three dishes and all the three were too good.
Love love loved it.
You must try the "Godfather" drink if you like Margaritas. It's tequila, Grand Mariner and Amaretto. I have always been a fan of Alero's great food and atmosphere. Within walking distance of U Street/African American stop (Green Line). It's located on the corner.
Good service. I like the plaintains.
The management here is really rude. They treated our party with disrespect buy rushing our order and trying to hurry and get us out. I understand that your crowded and may have a wait but we shouldn't feel rushed. It definitely ruined the hole experience.
Food & staff were great! However I didn't like the fact that I had to give the waiter my card in advance to place my order...
Tequila is cold and people are great
I went for the first time a month ago and I loved it! When I went back Friday night. It was just "ok". The BBQ sauce was different on the wings. Kinda tangy. And the waitress and manager didn't speak very good English. The quesadillas are GREAT though! And the people I was with loved the margaritas.
Was good many options for sauces to go on tacos and burritos.
If you love Mexican food, tequila, good music, outdoor seating, and tequila then you must stop here.... Especially for happy hour. You will not be disappointed.
Came here when on holiday and whilst the food was quick and very nice with good service I did not appreciate a tip of 18% being added to the bill without our permission. I would rather decide for myself how much I should pay. I also felt the service was a bit rushed and they were keen to get us out the door quickly rather than having a relaxed meal.
Long wait for food, a bit overpriced for what you get, & having to take my credit/debit/ID card before we order is ridiculous. To top it off, the food was horrible. Me & my friend did not enjoy our food. So awful that we left our plates barely eaten. It was tasteless & the worst Mexican meal that I have ever had. A street vendor would have been much better. I will not return.
Never again. Non seasoned products. Mostly made for white people with no taste buds. I assume nothing is fresh here. Trash restaurant on U St. I literally had a wish I was at Chi Chi's, back in 1992! Plus just over priced to keep up with the area. Dude dropped off the food and never came back.
It was my first time back in 10 years and it's good to know that the food is still great! I tried my friends ribs and they were nice and tender. I ordered the seafood salad and it was good! I ate every bite!
Went here for a friends brunch and the food was really good. Staff was super nice as well. I will definitely come back!
The food isn't spectacular. I only give it a 2 star bc of the art and interior design and decoration is beautiful. That's all.
Great food, drinks and service!
4 star experience because of the good food, 6 star experience because of the service, so 5 star gosh darn it. The server's name was DREW, he was about 6-2, 185 pounds and Caucasian. Great server, outstanding person. He recommended the perfect meal for me and my partner, Hidalgo who is from Santiago, Chile, so he knows good mexican food. PLease consider promoting this young man, or at least giving him a pat on the the back and a free taco. Will certainly be coming back here.
The happy hour comes fully loaded and they have birthday surprises
Food was good and came out quickly. Service was inconsistent and it took forever to get the bill. Also, don't sit outside unless you want to get eaten alive. Music was too loud, had difficulty carrying on conversations
I went to this restaurant for Happy Hour for a friend's birthday. I was a little skeptical because it was a pretty far commute for me but it was worth it! The happy hour deals were good but what was even better was how good the food and margaritas were from the Happy Hour menu! The margaritas were delicious yet fairly strong. I ordered a cheese quesadilla from the Happy Hour menu and it looked small but after I ate it I realized it was very filling and so good! I would definitely go again!
Great food. Service was tough because they were short handed.
My friend said her pork ribs didn't taste fresh
Food was delicious, drinks were delicious, however, they had no real amount of alcohol!!... I was so disappointed. I purchased 2 pitchers of the frozen margaritas thingy... can't recall its name. I must of had at least half of one (it was hot) and not even a small buzz.
great place to go with a group of friends for a good time. Not the best food but its DC so enjoy the basic food and a good time.
Good drinks good food good service
This 2 is just because the service was nice and the environment welcoming but the food was a disaster. The guacamole was not fresh at all, the mole poblano sauce was mediocre, the chicken taste like it was frozen and reheated.. In general not good. Good margarita but a little overpriced.
Never had happy hour here before, but definitely a plus. Our server was amazing.
I love going here for Mexican food. It is soooo good. The happy hour specials are amazingly cheap for what you get.
Service was absolutely terrible and deplorable. they sat us down with no utensils. and as we ordered our meal for the evening, the waiter informed me that he would have to hold my ID and bank card for our stay. As a black man, I had to wonder why. apparently they didnt ask the grouo of white people next to us. we left almost immediately after.
Went during happy hour, food is decent, nothing special. Servers were also decent. Magaritas were good
I love the food the drink specials and the ambience
The food here is just not good, especially when there are so many better options for Mexican in the city and on U st. Go to El Rey instead.
Pricey and the food we wanted is on the online menu but they don't actually have it
I love the food and drinks here and am a regular at both locations BUT I noticed that the U St location has started doubling up on the number of plastic straws they give customers -- every round of drinks we got had two straws despite the table saying we didn't need any. This is really disappointing -- Alero management, I hope you take this into cognizance. I know I personally will need to reconsider visiting here until you transition to non plastic alternatives.
Great place ..love the frozen margaritas!!
Horrible service. They need a card on file before you can order food. And they held my id until we left.
Delicious food. I really liked the fajitas.
The absolute BEST mex restaurant I’ve been too. The food was amazing! The servers were fantastic! The atmosphere was a once in a lifetime Mexican art scene. Blown away! If your in the area, it’s a MUST go!
The food was good and hot. The only issue i had was that i gave them a tip which was already calculated into the bill and then they took a few extra dollars out on top of that my tip would have been more than what they added to the tip and what they took put together but they took matters into their own hands so their $20 became $5.66
The food was so good here. The ambience is nice here too for friends or date night. Great outside and indoors.
amazing and delicious food. Did not wait long and they serve with big smile on their faces.
Happy hour till 7 pm, ordered the happy hour appetizer two Mexican Taquitos with pork, only $6.00, with very light chips and just the right heat in the salsa. Excellent value, very friendly staff, excellent pork taquitos. So glad I went inside, and hope to return for another happy hour taquitos meal.
Had a blast! Staff was happy and created a fun atmosphere! DJ was great on a Saturday night.
Alero’s Mexican Grill is one of my favorite spots to go to in DC. It’s a great spot to get good tacos quesadillas and a bomb happy hour. You will also get a taste of some traditional foods as well as other great food Choices.
I LOVE seeing Frida Kahlo all over the place
Food good service is excellent prices are reasonable
