Best brisket around hands down. I loved the Turkey & ribs too. Bummed they are not open on Monday & Tuesday or later than 6 for dinner take out. I guess if one wants ZZQ then you will adjust your craving schedule, pocket book, deal with the line. Staff is always lively, helpful and seem to enjoy their working environment.

Great brisket and turkey breast. They were very busy when I was there and had just run out of pulled pork, so I didn't get to try it. Hopefully next time. (And there will be a next time) Cool atmosphere. Great industrial decor. Very nice staff.

I’d give their meats nearly a 5/5. Same to with the service - fantastic. A few of their sides are slightly sub-par. The potato salad has some decent flavors at work, but the consistency is almost totally mashed. Personally I wasn’t a fan.

This place is amazing! Its location can be a little deceiving but have no doubt that you will find some of the best Barbeque Richmond has to offer here. It's a la carte meats by the pound kind of like ordering at a deli. They give you some free sides like bread and pickled vegetables that go great with your meat. The brisket is fantastic. A must try!

Your first clue that you're in for real BBQ is before you walk in the door--the smoke scent in the parking lot is profound. This is the absolute best place for BBQ in Richmond, maybe all of VA. I grew up in OK and TX, and I've really missed that particular taste of ribs and brisket. Buzz and Ned's was my previous favorite place, and it's still great, but ZZQ is #1. Inside seating even has an open sink where you can wash your hands without having to go into the bathroom--very handy for messy ribs. Outdoor seating is where they have the smoker, so you'll get that delicious wood smoke while you dine.

Best BBQ in Richmond! Staff is very friendly and happy to give you a brisket sample for waiting in line. All silverware, glassware and trays are reusable so no need to feel bad about your carbon footprint!

The food here is really good brisket is amazing no table service cafeteria style it gets crowded and they close as soon as they run out of food you can't call in ahead of time in order take out you have to go through the line that would be my only issue It is more expensive than the other barbecue places around but the food is good the peach cobbler was amazing for the desert the banana pudding was not the typical Southern pet banana pudding I'm used to but brisket pulled pork pulled chicken call slaws really good bought it for a lunch for my team at work and everyone loved it just get there early so you can find a parking space

Went at 5pm on a saturday, where there was about a 10-15 minute wait in line. It was our first time and the weather was nice so not an issue. While waiting in line, they give you a handout with a menu on one side and instructions on the other side for first timers. The attendant outside nicely answered all of our questions which made us even more excited to try the food. They also offer you alcoholic beverages while you wait. My husband tried their equivalent to budlight and liked it. Once inside, it's cafeteria style where you go down a line and choose what foods you will like and pay at the end. We decided to try the pulled pork, jalapeno mac-n-cheese, collard greens and spare ribs and boy did they not disappoint! There were 3 sauces on the table, I enjoyed the sweet and tangy while my husband enjoyed the sauce that was more vinegar based. The sides were plentiful and I was full after only eating half of my sandwich! Of course I wrapped my leftovers to go but my husband devoured his portions! We enjoyed the friendly customer service, lovely outside seating and delicious food. I think we've found a new favorite bbq spot in RVA!

Hands down the best BBQ I've ever had. The Flay Slayer doesn't even come close!! Great for the entire family. We take our 2 yr old all the time. Got to meet Orange and she gave me the entire run down on how things got started for her and her Husband Texas. These folks really know BBQ!!! If you happen to be standing in line, if they put samples up on the counter top (burnt ends) all I'm going to say is you are a lucky one and be sure to snag one!!!

the best brisket i've ever had! My fiance and I ordered 1 lb of the spare ribs and 1 lb of the beef brisket to share ( no sides but they looked delectable!)... we really just wanted to experience the BBQ. We sat down to a table with 3-4 BBQ sauces and I told myself i wanted to try all of them to see which was best but after the first bite of brisket, i couldn't fathom putting anything else on it.( yes, it was totally perfect as it was!) so we moved the sauces off the table to make more room for the feast ! We had leftovers to take home too as the meal was so savory and filling !

Easily the best BBQ in RVA, but the best I've had in the whole state. The brisquit is remarkable. The tritip is a hidden gem most people sleep on. The homemade steak sauce for the tritip is perfectly crafted to pair withit. Dont not try the steak sauce because you're a traditionalist. I was too, and was shocked when my arm was twisted, and I was forced to try it.

Line was just about out there door when we got there on a Sunday afternoon around 4. The line moved quickly, though. Staff was friendly, inviting, and helpful. We got a decent sampling of the menu (brisket, pork spare ribs, Chinese char siu ribs, pulled pork shoulder, pork belly, potato salad, Cole slaw, jalapeno Mac & cheese, house pickles and pickled onions). Only real complaints were with the ribs. The pork spare ribs were more tender than the Chinese char siu ribs but still had more pull from the bone than they should have. Flavor of but were spot-on, though. Brisket was excellent! Nice smoke flavor and the meat was really able to speak for itself without any sauce. Not dry, not fatty, just perfect. Pulled pork shoulder was awesome and we'd definitely order it again. As to the sides, the potato salad was definitely the star on our tray, but the Cole slaw had a nice acidity that cut through the fat off other bites. The house pickles weren't my cup of tea, but our daughter couldn't get enough of them. Overall, it was a nice taste of home (Texas) and we'll be back regularly!

Went on Date Night! ZZQ is perfect! When we first walked up; there was a line outside and we were immediately greeted by the staff and were given a menu. We waited 10-15 minutes in line (it was packed). You order your food kinda like a buffet line. When we were able to order food, the staff was very nice and quick. Everything was fresh and delicious! You can sit anywhere that you desire. The patio doors were open and there was additional seating outside. If you are looking for fresh BBQ; ZZQ is the place to go. We will be returning!

Best brisket ever! Everything else was great too. We did a sampling and shared brisket, pulled pork, pork ribs, and sausage. We also had the jalapeno mac n cheese (very good), potato salad (heavy on the dill and not sweet - excellent), greens (very good), and Texas caviar (also very good). The staff was very nice and helpful. The bar in the back was impressive with a good assortment of local and Texas beers as well as specialty cocktails. Easily the best place in Richmond for the meat, but the sides are as good as the rest and the atmosphere put it a step above. This place has it all and it's all great.

The food is undeniably top notch. The brisket is amazing, and I love ordering the tres hombres sandwich. If you go on a Saturday, be sure to order the tri-tip. The one downside to this restaurant is if they arbitrarily decide that you've been at a table for too long, they'll ask you to leave, even if people in your group are still eating and drinking. I found this out the hard way tonight and it put a damper on what is normally a wonderful dining experience

I got the pulled pork and it was so yummy!!! I went with a group and we all got different sides and shared and all of the sides are honestly so yummy! My favorite is the collard greens and their pickled red onions. Parking is a bit tough though, the parking lot is very small and you’ll have to find street parking.

Visiting Richmond, I'd heard that there was a Texas style BBQ restaurant. The line was literally out the door. They charge by weight so we opted to get just about everything that sounded good: cornbread, brisket, pork ribs, spicy sausage, pork belly, potato salad, mac & cheese. We came on a Saturday evening - the first note about the food is that it was incredibly dry. It is difficult to say whether that is just the standard of the restaurant or if we just came too late in the day. Our favorite part of the meal was the potato salad and the spicy sausage. It was hard to enjoy any of the meat due to the lack of moisture. Again, tough to tell whether if it's the standard or if we were too late.

This was my second visit today around 1pm. I liked it so much the first time I decided to bring my 82 year old parents along with me today. I WILL NEVER VISIT THIS PLACE AGAIN...here’s why. My father has Alzheimer’s and really bad hip problems to the point where he’s starting to fall more and more often. We usually sit him down in places we go so he doesn’t have to stand in pain or risk a fall. Today was no different. As my mother and I were in line, I could see one of the staff go over to him and tell him he couldn’t sit there because he didn’t have his food and they didn’t allow people to hold tables. I went over to this lady, pulled her aside and politely explained that my father has Alzheimer’s and falls because of his hip issues. She told me he could go wait at the bar. Really???? My dad couldn’t even begin to get up into one of those tall bar seats. She then told me she would have to go speak to her manager. For shit’s sake....think with the brain God gave you and use some old fashioned common sense and decency about the situation. I might also add, I looked around the place and saw no signage stating that this was their policy. I sincerely hope that the owners of this establishment and the people that work there don’t treat their parents the same way. They’ll never get the opportunity to treat mine like that again.

Well..the staff was great, the sample of brisket they offered was the best I've ever tried....but...I have never before paid 38 dollars for a half rack of ribs (5 ribs) and 8 ounces of grilled zucchini before and I never will again. I was embarrassed to walk away when they gave me the price, but I really wanted to just walk out. The ribs were ok. Not the best. The Zucchini was standard BBQ fare This was a 12.00 lunch anywhere else

Visiting here is a must if you like authentic BBQ in a cool setting. The line can get long but it moves pretty quickly. It's worth the wait at any rate. You can even grab an awesome cocktail to hold you over while you wait. ZZQ sets itself above the stiff competition that Scott's Addition has to offer the Richmond food and drink scene.

It's two PM on a Saturday, how busy could this BBQ place be for lunch? The answer to that question is just a short line out the building, busy. Since I was in no hurry, I didn't mind to wait. I like BBQ, and I had time to kill. What set this place apart from any other BBQ lines I've stood in before, and I have stood in many BBQ lines in my day, were the line bartenders. As you're waiting, folks offered to start a tab and bring you a drink while you waited in line. This was an otherwise forgettable detail, but a super nice touch to alleviate the otherwise unusually long line at such an odd time of day, which I appreciated. Okay, so how was the BBQ? It was good enough that I forgot to photograph it because I was so excited to eat! Since I sampled some pulled pork, spicy sausage, and brisket, along with a few sides, I feel like I got a good variety of flavor and products. If I had to choose just one meat, I would recommend the brisket, but I wouldn't recommend one meat, I would recommend all of it because you'll probably need to wait in line because everything on the menu is delightful and a ton of people already know that. Check them out.

Very disappointed. Showed up at 3:30 on a Sunday and ran out of meat? Not sure I understand the business model but would not recommend this place to anyone. Went across the parking lot for a beer and the gates were closed on us. Half the family was inside with the food and the rest was outside. Not sure if they're excited to close early or attempting to look like a place with extreme demand. I do not recommend if you're looking for a place to be reliable.

This is the best BBQ I've ever had. The brisket is always phenomenal and the pork ribs are also great. My wife gets the pulled pork and that is also amazing. The beef rib is a huge and great meal if you're hungry and it's available. Have also had a country ham and turkey breast for Thanksgiving and it was the best meat option we could've hoped for. I think we'll be making that a tradition. Other pluses are the sides - love the collards and the mac n cheese. Topping it all off with a Lone Star is an added bonus.

I have been to ZZQ multiple times but I recently did a catering pick up order from ZZQ because we had family from out of town visiting Richmond for the first time. I was able to pick up the order the morning of, we purchased brisket, pull pork, the mac and cheese, and coleslaw. I have to say hands down the best experience I have ever had. The people were extremely helpful with packages and taking my order to my car. I was a little nervous about having to serve the food later in the day, but I followed exactly what I was told and the food could not have been better! This place is worth all of the hype. It is some of the best Bar-B-Q I've had in a long while, and definitely the best Brisket I've ever had. The sides were awesome too. Really great BBQ. I super impressed. I made a trip to Austin this past summer and was able to sample different Texas BBQ places. ZZQ is as good as if not better. The saltiness is marginal compared to others I've tried. I'd definitely consider it "seasoned" as opposed to salty. If you get the chance, make the trip!

Sooo my fiancé wanted to eat here after hearing how great it was.. well it was okay. I got turkey, brisket with jalapeño mac n cheese and savory beans. My fiancé got the hot sausage, brisket with the dirty rice. I can say that the turkey was SUPER juicy and I love it. The sausage was also delicious. Everything else I had to drown in the YUMMY sauces.

The food was very good. I won't say it's the best I've had, but it's definitely top 3 for BBQ in Richmond. I had the brisket sandwich. The meat was cooked perfectly, juicy and tender. The smokiness was just right. The seasoning had maybe a touch too much salt, but it also brings out the sweetness of the sauce more. The jalapeno mac and cheese was tasty. It's standard fair for the "Texas" style BBQ places, and while I do prefer another brand's more, I would definitely get it again here. The texture was just a little off, but the flavor was right. The price was a bit on the high side, maybe 10-15% more than what I usually spend at other BBQ places. All in all, a good experience though.

Called ahead and message said they were open until 5. We drove 80 miles to get there and at 4:15 they were closed. HIGHLY RECOMMEND Deep Run Roadhouse 4.8 stars and less than 10 mins away from high point avenue. THEY SHOULD REALLY ANNOUNCE ON THE MESSAGE THEY ARE ALREADY CLOSED SO THEY DON’T INCONVENIENCE NEW CUSTOMERS.

If you're looking for a good meal while you're out hitting up the breweries in Scots Addition, then this is a great option. Be mindful of their hours since they're not open very late for dinner. As for their pricing, it's on the expensive side but personally I think it's worth it. For a weekday lunch this place gets busy and their indoor seating is limited. There's a pretty big outdoor eating area but it's not covered.

After hearing all of the reviews of this place, I thought I would check it out. We got there after 1:00 pm so there was no wait which was good. I ordered the brisket sandwich and a side of jalapeno mac & cheese. The brisket looked really good but I didn't realize they covered it in sauce until it was handed to me. The sauce was very overpowering and the flavor of the meat was almost indistinguishable. The mac & cheese was pretty good but nothing special. For the kind of prices they are charging I was really hoping this would be my new "go to" bbq joint. I would much rather go to Mission BBQ where the sandwiches are almost twice the amount of brisket and $2.00 cheaper and the sauce is optional. $32.00 plus tip for two people to eat lunch is pretty high, even for trendy Scott's Addition.

Excellent food. Nice patio. Reasonable prices. But Very over priced beer. $10 for an simple standard pint IPA add in the 13% tax plus $2 tip. That's a lot. Everyone was very friendly.

Absolutely delicious food! Hands down some of the best barbecue I've ever had. The only reason it isn't a 5 star is that there are LONG lines (I've waited up to 2 hours) and they sell out of the good stuff fast. Another issue I have is that you can't call in to go orders, you have to wait in line to order a to go order. I've been there 4 times and only once did I get to try what I actually wanted to get because every other time they sold out of everything I wanted. The lines start forming before they even open. But if you can get in there and they haven't sold out of the good stuff it's worth it.

My coworkers told me this is the best BBQ in Richmond. I have to agree. I had a fantastic brisket sandwich, ribs, and beet salad. It is fascinating watching the crew cut the meats to order. Make sure to wash it all down with a refreshing iced tea.

Not much flavor. Brisket and Ribs just tasted like black pepper couldn't really taste any smoke on either. Prices are also considerably higher than ANY other BBQ joint I've been to. Food wasn't bad but definitely not worth going back.

Walking up, the charred oak smell fills you and brings the initial smile; need to arrive before 12 noon for good spot in line; really amazing Texas-style meats of all types (different style from local favorite B&N up the street); great side options with fantastic, unique flavors; nice bar service and great sweet tea! Brisket, and Pastrami amazing. All the sides are great. Turkey soft and juicy, wonderful. Been several times always great. Ribs are only thing that are off, flavor great, just not quite tender each time I've gotten.

Amazing. I'm always skeptical of places labeling themselves as Texas BBQ when they aren't in Texas, but this place kills it. And the fact that they serve Lone Star beer gives a definite boost to their credibility. Everything was fantastic and food coma inducing, and the service was excellent. Great setup, the vibe definitely feels like a Texas BBQ spot, and menu does as well.

The meat was well prepared but the side order of sweet potatoes were barely warm. After eating we were enjoying a second cup of tea and talking and were asked to leave because they needed our table. We saw the same thing happen to another table. We won't be coming back. Felt like cattle - get fed and then herded out the door.

Best BBQ around! You must try the brisket and ribs! Simply amazing. This location is perfect as there are great breweries nearby, but you are guaranteed to leave full and more than satisfied. Very clean interior with fast, friendly service. The bar is casual bit clean. This is a great spot for anyone who loves great BBQ in a perfect location. Two thumbs way up!

Visited Richmond over the weekend and heard great things about ZZQ. It completely lived up to the hype! We had the brisket, pork belly, jalapeno mac, potato salad, and frijoles charros. Both meats were perfect and every side we ordered was excellent. Everyone in our group was blown away by this place. If we're ever back in the Richmond area we'll be sure to return!

Great BBQ! We got the pork ribs and brisket and they did not disappoint. Pork ribs were tear off tender and brisket was juicy with a strong molasses tang (which I like). The sides were phenomenal. Get the beet salad if they have it-balances the bbq out great and your stomach will thank you. Unlimited sweet tea so who can complain?! Banana pudding was ok but unceremoniously plopped into a paper container-the sight was less than appealing.
