This Restaurant is included in the category of New American restaurant.
My group must have looked confused when we walked in - however right away an employee escorted us to the back bar and gave us great seats. The whiskey selection is extensive with many different varieties to choose from. Beer list is also incredible. Once seated we were warmly welcomed and quickly taken care of. I enjoyed myself at this establishment and will definitely be returning soon.
This is a great spot My only issue is with the noise. The staff are top notch. Call out to Eugene
Nice Irish style pub with over 125 types of whiskey bottles to choose from! Although 1986 tucked in the back was closed, the bartender let us order from the menu in the main bar. The $27 bourbon flight for 3 one ounce pours was fun to try and a tad expensive given that most of the bottles retail between $45 - 65. His favorite was the Woodford Double Oak followed by the Blade & Bow, and lastly the 1792 Single Barrel. There's an impressive variety of 15-20 beers and ciders on draught. I enjoyed the original Crispin Apple cider. Shout-out to our AWESOME bartender, Pat who hooked us up! He made great whiskey recommendations and introduced my hubby to Michter's Rye. Pat was super friendly and knows whiskey in and out. Looking forward to coming back when we're in the area!
Atmosphere in the restaurant is nice. Not too loud and the lighting is pleasant. The food is quite a bit more expensive than the quality should warrant. Service was very frustrating. The waiter had us adding up the tab by hand because the computer would take too long
Great atmosphere. Food was great, although it took 3 tries to get my burger medium rare. Was worth the wait. Staff and manager handled it great. Loved the buttermilk wings too.
Good service; good food; good beer
On the spendier side, but still fun!
Wonderful place for happy hour to gather with friends! The service was great!
nice atmosphere in old historic bldg. crab cake sandwich excellant. fish and chips very good also
Good food and nice atmosphere
Food was uninspiring and over priced for the mediocre quality. The manager was rude to our party, but the servers did a good job with our large group.
Great casual setting. Had fish and chips . Fish was very tasty and a generous portion. Good location in Old Town Alexandria.
We loved this place. Great selection of beer. Good food especially the deviled eggs. Service was super friendly. Parking anywhere in old town is a bit tricky so plan on doing some walking.
Good food and drinks.
Came in on a whim on Tuesday the 17th wanted to try out a different beer and the bartender there was quite helpful in allowing me to sample out a couple different beers to help find the right taste. Ended up going with Devils Backbone - Lager. Tasty brew I might add. Friendly staff, great place to catch up on sports or a watch a game on a variety of TV's. Didn't get an opportunity to try out the food yet. But I will surely come back. Great Happy Hour spot!
Union Street is always a good time for a dinner with friends or taking the family to brunch. I've tried their delicious Eggs Benedict and their solid cheeseburger, no complaints! I also love that they have event space here, I've attended a couple parties/events here and they were great! Very private and flexible with planning.
Hip craft beers. Be prepared to get drunk.
Wonderful place to take a break. The fried oysters go great with a good Irish Whiskey (I recommend the Redbreast 12). The service was as good as it gets. The staff were top shelf (bar humor couldn't help myself). Stop by say hi to Bruce for me, and enjoy.
Amazing service and accommodating staff! Fantastic food and drinks! My wife and I are in the Keto diet and we're able to eat multiple small plates and they made special substitutions for us for those foods we couldn't eat. Our server, though not that personable, he was able to give us whatever we asked for in drinks and food. There were children all around us, yet they were all well-behaved. I know that isn't about the restaurant, but it describes the atmosphere and the clientel that frequent the restaurant. We walked down from our hotel, so not sure about parking at the restaurant, but there is street parking and lots nearby. Bathrooms are very clean.
I took my spouse out for dinner, it was the middle of the week. We were the only people in section. The server was hard to understand. When two other tables were seated he paid no attention to our table. Then he was gone for 10 to 15 minutes. I asked the gentleman filling our water for the check and we waited another 10. The food was good but the experience was not.
I thoroughly enjoyed Union Street Public Restaurant the atmosphere was great and my crabcakes were delicious just to small for the price. The fish is great and I will be returning in the very near future. Good job staff service was very good.
Great bartender. Great burger.
Very cool place, definitely going for that 'speak easy' vibe. Very unique interior with a mixture of rich hardwoods and almost a Victorian era ceiling.
Always something good on draft.
Average bar average food average service. Nothing special but not horrible.
Great pub house, good food that's very nuanced and good... The bartenders are great... Professionals...
Wings were amazing and top notch whiskey selection.
I went here for brunch on a Saturday with my friend and it was a great experience. We sat in the bar area and were greeted promptly by our waiter. The mimosas were only $3 and they tasted great. Both of our entrees were amazing. i highly recommend this place.
Bartenders don't pay attention to the non-regulars. Otherwise very good.
We used to like this place. Was disappointed on Mother's Day with food and presentation.
Didn't eat there but good beer, friendly staff and nice vibe. Great location too.
The food was wonderful, the staff was friendly who could ask for more.
Have been going here for years. Bruce, long time bar tender is great and makes everyone feel like a regular! Highly recommended, great atmosphere, best service in old town.
Pretty cool bar near the waterfront of Old Town Alexandria. Happy hour is decent and is typically 3-7pm at least during the week. Ordered the cheeseburger sliders off of the happy hour menu as well as a couple beers. Pretty decent spot overall.
The area the restaurant is in is terrific. The restaurant itself was average. The food, beers, and wine list were all fine, but average. For the price, I expected more. The atmosphere was nice and kid friendly.
This place has a very nice "cheers" type pub ambiance for old town. The service was ok only because we had a new waiter, but the food made up for it. I will definitely visit this place again.
Good standard American classic pub fare and a few creative twists. Pretty good value for money in a quiet part of beautiful historic Alexandria.
Great, great atmosphere. Menu was pretty diverse but honestly, overpriced. I loved the muscles, oysters, and pimento cheese apps. The hanger steak did not impress but was ok. The shrimp and crawfish roll, although the bread was perfect, was difficult to eat and not very flavorful. We also ordered the duck which was quite good. Service was average.
Great historic bar! We had a great time!
The service was not pleasant. I ordered salad with the oyster loaf rather than fries, it came with fries, but with the salad dressing I ordered. The iced tea I ordered was not served at all, had to make do with water. And the food was removed before I was finished, no question asked first. I would not willingly return, I was there because my friends wanted to go there, for some reason.
I've been going here for years. They have always had good food, and good cocktails. I sat with a friend at the main bar. Our bartender was awesome. His customer service skills were fantastic, even when my friend had a "consumption issue." I wish I could remember his name to give him a personal review, but I can't. It was Sunday night and he was the only front bartender in the early evening.
Delicious and reasonably priced!
Nice decor, food was good. We started with Chorizo Meatballs and Deviled Ham and Eggs. Both were delicious. Two of our party had the fish and chips. The portion size was generous and the fish was delicious. My Peirogies and Keilbasa was pretty good. Avoid the Mac and Cheese Casserole. When I asked what made it a casserole our server said, "It's really just macaroni and cheese in a dish". He was half right...there was shell pasta and white sauce but no cheese that we could find. The service was extremely efficient but it felt like the servers were all feeling pressure to move super fast when the place was less than a 1/4 full. All in all it was a decent meal. However, given the wealth of options in Old Town, it probably won't be a go-to for us.
Good bar chow & good service ~ great spot for your industry reception / company party
LIked it alot. Bartender, James, was really good. The bar apps were not exactly what we were looking for, but that was only because of personal taste.
Food is great and bar downstairs has excellent service and happy hour specials. Upstairs I ordered a Double Red Bull vodka and it was FULL of ice with minimal vodka. I ordered same beverage from the bar and it was perfect. Do not eat or drink upstairs if you come here - spotty service and lame mixed drinks. The drink I ordered upstairs was $22.... For one drink, full of ice.... $22. Downstairs it was $13 for happy hour.
Awesome food! Great Beers!
The taproom is probably one of the closest to a pub atmosphere you're going to get. But the Guinness is grossly overpriced!
Great music
The fried chicken was amazing - perfectly seasoned, crispy skin, juicy meat- and served piping hot! Please leave room for dessert. The coconut cake was delicious! Oh, and service was impeccable!
Amazing steak with great service.
Good food. Friendly staff.
Pricey but good!
Good food, large portions, nice selection of beers
I kinda didn't want to give a review because places tend to get crowded, but everyone deserves a review. THEY HAVE AWESOME FOOD! Simple menu but great taste. Never too crowded for Sunday brunch.
Food and experience was great. They have no wheelchair access, that's the only reason for the mid-range rating.
I went there to have a drink and catch up with some buddies and the bartender acted like an ass. I turned down a second shot and he made a big deal out of it.
Fun place! Cool old time "industrial" and nautical atmosphere/feel. Good staff, quick service, great food (roasted brussel sprouts were delicious). Decent selection of craft beers on tap. We had a large group start here for St. Patrick's Day. Special food menu was really good!
Excellent food and great atmosphere!
Awesome place downtown from the atmosphere and sheer amount of space to choose where to settle down to the excellent fare and beverages! Superb fish 'n chips as well as the fried chicken presentation.
Nice place. Great party room upstairs. Good food and drink. Good staff, very helpful and attentive.
Great stop for lunch after seeing Mount Vernon
Excellent food and prices. Staff was upscale and professional.
The new chef makes the best ribs!!!
An old favorite place. Had a crab benedict. Yum!
Went to Union Street Public House for the first time in a while last week for happy hour. The happy hour selection is good - discounted beer, wine and rail drinks as well as some food items. I had the pickle dog and it was very good and came with french fries so it was a good option for a happy hour special. My girlfriend had oysters which were very well priced for a happy hour. The bartender, Bruce, was great. When he began serving us, even though it was a busy Friday evening he took the time to ask our names and give us his with a handshake. When I ordered fried he mentioned that the other item I ordered came with them already so I may want to hold on off on ordering that additional. 4/5 stars based on the fact that outside of happy hour they are a bit overpriced for what you get compared to other options in the area and I never have cell phone reception which tends to be a bit of a bother.
Good food and lots of separate spaces within. Wide variety of options for food and drink, including the whiskey bar in the back. Service can be a bit slow though, so go unhurried.
They serve all little of everything. Very fancy place
Amazing service and steak sandwich was excellent. Very fun atmosphere.
Great place to get drinks and they have reasonable prices!
Great food and atmosphere
Good food, nice atmosphere, great bartender
The seafood can be pretty good here. The restaurant is pretty spacious and provides different settings to either eat, drink or converse with friends.
Great selection of beers with some good local brews. Bartender was super friendly and helpful. Lively crowd and overall better than some of the other local bars
Nice laid back spot. Mixed Greens salad was really good. Dressing was amazing. Fish & Chips were very good. Attentive waitstaff.
Love this place!
Nice place but the smell of sour beer is overwhelming
A good place to get a couple pints. They have a number of dining options too. The fries go well with a few beers.
Fun place in Old Town Alexandria. Good food and beer too.
Excellent whiskey. Competent, professional and fun bar staff. Great atmosphere.
Had BBQ shrimp and ribs appetizer they were delicious and good selection of beer
Some of the best food in Old Town. Dozens of beer and wine to choose from. Super friendly staff
Classy, historic, and wonderful wait staff. Highly suggest going off peak hours to appreciate the decor from 1791. If possible check out the upstairs room where Washington visited.
The food is tasty and the atmosphere is good. Recommend.
Al Chadsey the GM was an excellent Host for my Party that was impromptu and Bar was very accommodating. Thanks Al.
You have to know what is good from the menu. The oysters are great, and the fish selections are usually good. Their beer on tap selection is always nice. But some things come out very "bar foody"; greasy and overdone.
The atmosphere is very nice. The beer is pretty good. The dinner is average at best. The food is pricey for what you get, there are few choices and the taste is nothing special. Definitely a better bar than restaurant.
Visiting on business, I happened upon this place looking for a late breakfast on a quiet Sunday. The setting is nice. Dark wood commands the decor and the dimly lit ambiance suggests a good place to review and question last night's decisions. Elegant. The Belgian waffle and coffee they brought me were world class in the sense that I have been to many places in it, and have been seldom so impressed...
One of the best bartenders I have ever had the pleasure of meeting! Phenomenal staff and their tacos are AMAZING! I would go back simply for those two things alone!
Great atmosphere, hand made ceasar dressing and the fried oysters, the best!!!
Brad is the best bartender..ever! So funny..
Yummy food, good service, broad wine selection
Superb service, great quality seafood, solid beer selection. Whenever I'm back in town, I'll be back.
This little gem of a pub is the reason I visit Alexandria, VA. It has a ton of character oozing out of the walls, really makes you feel like you're dockside 100 years ago. The menu is diverse and high quality, and not too pricey. Where they beam is their craft beer menu, which is one of the best you'll find if you want to try a wide selection of brews.
Not great service, but cool spot and good menu.
Good food, a little noisy from the bar area but still nice.
Good beers you don't normally see in the greater area, but was service made it hard to enjoy; had to repeatedly request for the menu because server kept taking it away. Also the portions were comically small for the price.
Great atmosphere. Gets loud on the weekend...
I always enjoy this place. Good pub food and a really good tap beer selection
Consistently good food and drink. Price per portion not great. I'd go back, but probably not seek it out.
Good spot in Old Town
Came during brunch on Saturday. Took over 5 minutes to be greeted by our server. Ordered Oysters Rockafeller for an appetizer - very good! Ordered the Amish BBQ Chicken as my meal. The potatoes were COLD - like straight from the fridge cold. The chicken was still raw once I cut into it. Waiter never came back to check on us after food was served. After 10+ minutes, we had to waive down a waitress who wasn't ours just to ask for the manager. To be fair, the manager was AWESOME and was extremely apologetic. I only expected him to take my chicken meal off our tab, but he ended up comping the entire ticket. If the server would have been more attentive, I might be able to look past the cold and under cooked food. But I won't be going back. Not worth it.
I’ve been to Union Street Public house several times and each time I have enjoyed myself. My husband likes the happy hour oysters and I enjoyed the fried chicken special they had one week. We have always had good service. Beer selection is ok.
It's ok, not bad at all
Great bar and restaurant. Monday through Friday happy hour is good. Fresh oysters are $15 a dozen.
Lunch was good had the nachos with chicken. A few days later went there for breakfast and is was good also. Better prices than most of the places at national harbor.
Visiting from out of town and found this gem. If you are in Old Town Alexandria and want an awesome cocktail or a full selection of great beers with the friendliest service, this is your place! Patrick and Bert really know how to "work" a bar!!
Good food, good service! Clam chowder was life
Very basic. No atmosphere. Food very average.
Good staff and was able to seat our large group without issue. Food and beer was great and recommend try it.
Great drinks, delicious food, excellent service!
Went for a late lunch, and it was delicious. Had the fish and chips which were superb. The decor and ambiance are fitting with the rest of Old Town Alexandria. Will definitely come back again.
The service was perfection and our whole party enjoyed their orders. Definitely making my way back their the next time I'm in Alexandria. We ate in the dining area, but can't wait to check out the bar too.
Great place, awesome meal!
I was at Union House Saturday night after a company party.. we had a great time and had a few rounds of drinks with the very friendly and attentive bar staff! We stepped out once to have a smoke and didn't really mind when our drinks were cleared from our table even though they were covered with bev napkins and other people took over our table when we returned! We were having fun! Unfortunately things went south extremely quickly when an apparent regular and his wife felt that my friend and I were too close the their space at the bar as they were having dinner at midnight. I asked her if this was enough space for her when I was just trying to close out my tab and I was told if my boyfriend or I "touched his wife again" he would murder us. ... and he looked me in the face and used the word MURDER several times . We were then basically kicked out even though we were attempting to close our tabs as this "regular" and a few others patrons basically ganged up on us and continued to scream "kick them out!" at me, my boyfriend and the couple we were with... that he will MURDER Us if we came near his wife ever again. Needless to say I will never go back to this establishment. The regulars tonight that threatened "murder" so loosely and the staff and security that so quickly kicked us out is the reason I will never go back to this place. The older security guard also said "don't worry you won't get stabbed" as we were leaving on our own! As a former Server, bartender and restaurant manager of 10 + years I am disgusted and offended that we were treated this way and our safety and lives were basically threatened. I hope that this isn't typically how paying customers are normally treated.
Great whiskey selection
Love the Union Street Pub. Reliably good food and a light atmosphere.
Great bar. Even better area. Good drink selection. Quick service. Friendly staff. Chill crowd. I'll be back again.
Friendly staff and so many whiskeys to sample!
Great food!
Every time I make it to Washington DC I always got to stop here at King Street on the corner of Union Street the people that show up our awesome ! Always a good time, The bartender Bruce makes you feel like a King !
Great oysters, good location
The food was great and the hostess gave us a lil tour after dinner. She showed us a room George Washington was known to have visited. It was a very nice touch!
The food and atmosphere were very good. The system they use for servers was a bit rough... it seemed like each serve may not know exactly where their section was.
Food was good but service sucked bad. We probably had a new guy on his 1st day. It took over an hour to bring the food, each beer or beverage was taking 15 minutes. Mixed up multiple orders. Unexpectedly weak service for a place in Old Town.
I've never eaten here, but I've had bourbon here. Go to the "1986 Whiskey Bar" in the back, not the beer pub up front, if you like bourbon and whiskey (and less noise than up front). I enjoyed a couple of really nice pours last night. Tonight, I'm enjoying probably the best, traditional Old Fashioned I've had outside of my own house. Maybe the best selection of bourbon in Old Town, but I'm a tourist (from Kentucky).
My friend invited me to this place she's been coming to for many years, described it as "Cheers" neighborhood hangout but super nice old decor. Spot on. Liked very much, great food and drinks and great bartender.
My go to bar in Old Town. Responsibly priced for the area and a little away from the hustle and bustle of old town. Their happy hour is a must, great prices!
Great food and a great beer selection.
Come for the happy hour, lots of food and drinks to choose from. We also came there during the veining and the food was fine, although a bit pricey...
I love pubs. I was there with a huge group. The staff was professional and friendly. De or met my expectations. Hostess was the mostess.
Nice ambiance and good food.
The upstairs was roomy and decor was nice especially for the holiday. Server must have been new and was slow.
Great service and drinks
Bbq ribs awsome!!!! Cameron (bartender), makes great drinks!!!
Is classic dive a term? Feels either run down it nostalgic. Either way, good vibe and good beers
Great service and atmosphere!
Excellent meal and friendly waiter. One of my favorite meals during my stay.
Great drink prices and excellent service
Bruce and bar staff awesome. Great for happy hour or any time.
Best bartender Pat. Chill spot where you can pick your own music
If you're not white you're gonna have a bad time. Not a friendly place
Good food and a great bar. French fries could use some work so that they're actually chewable and not like twigs. Everything else was great though.
The food is good the portions are small the service is just ok. But they are also empty on Sunday at brunch time so if you can't get a seat somewhere else it's a really good (only) option!
A little pricey but good food. Good variety of beer.
Love this place. Has dark nooks for more intimate conversation and lot of other seating options. The food here is consistently good!
GREAT BAR
Great location and staff ! Friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
Sad. This place use to be the best food. Now only has a select if things. Sometime that even good. Friendly people who work there. But the food. Isn't worth price. Love Bruce a0nd hussain... Great folks.
Fun place to watch a local game and get a beer. Gets a little crowded but great vibes.
Great fish and chips. Awesome building
Best kept secret in Old Town
Fun atmosphere, friendly service, good food, ample bar. A staple of Old Town Alexandria.
NY strip steak was perfectly cooked & service was great
Stopped in for a couple drinks for the first time. Great place! Wonderful bartender: Brad! Can't believe I had never been there before!!!! Will definitely return.
Very nice restaurant with excellent food and service. There are two bars and a regular sit down area as well. The one bar is a whiskey bar with a very extensive list. The cheesecake was delicious and would highly recommend getting it if you stop by. Some of the best I've had in a long time. Highly recommend going here for a meal or a drink though you won't be disappointed.
Always have friendly service and who can go wrong with $1 oysters. They taste fresh and delicious. The shoestring fries with bacon & cheese were very tasty as well.
