A nice outdoor dining experience. I would have liked a little more diverse draft beer selection. I ended up getting the BBQ chicken Calzone and thought it was great! The side of excellent Maranara sauce made it really good. What would make it a 5 are some attention to the unsteady outdoor tables, more draft variety especially towards dark and non IPA and get some exciting brews from the variety rich choices from regional breweries. The service was good but felt like it could be even better with quicker food ordering and delivery to the table.

We've always enjoyed the Cellar, service was a little slow during our visit which is unusual, they may have been short handed. For around 20 minutes no one had food on their table in most of the restaurant, then all of the food came out at once, seemed sort of strange, I'm guessing they were relying on the service staff to help in the kitchen. Otherwise, food was good, atmosphere was the Cellar, noisy but the same as it was when I went to school there 15 years ago!

Drove for an hour to get here because their website said they had gluten free options but when getting there you find out that nothing they have is really gluten free. Anyone needing to eat a gluten-free diet don't waste your time at this restaurant. Food is cooked in same oil. Ordered a hot Italian sandwich on gluten-free bread with pepperoni on sandwich is not gluten free also the potato chips that they serve are suspect as well. I got the gluten gut from eating there.

This is in a college town, lots of college kids. It works for the place it's at, but the food isnt that great. Its Italian themed and they only have maranara sauce, no meat sauce. My husband got the spaghetti and mac daddy meatballs, it was spaghetti noodles, a little bit of marinara sauce and these two HUGE meat balls with not much flavor. Not enough sauce to make a meat sauce with them. Its tight and cramped, but I guess if you're living in a dorm room its roomy and spacious comparitivley.

Awesome bar and restaurant. Food is amazing and portions are substantial. Beer list is on point as well, and luck of the draw is a nice touch. Gets pretty busy especially the outdoor seating in the summer. Downstairs is much more bar feeling while upstairs is more restaurant feeling. Plus the attached beer store makes this a can't miss spot.

I am not a huge fan of the food here. It's good but not 5 stars. But the dessert options rock and that makes everything better. Over in the six pack shop you can pick up a piece of cheesecake and sneak it into The Lyric. Give it a shot.

Great place. Has a great selection of international beers. You can get international beers at half price on sunday. It is also the spot for a lot of of the grad students. The food is really great. Service can get a little slow but hey, I'm not complaining. Highly recommended.

I went to The Cellar today, they have a fridge of beer singles, I picked two out and went to the register. The dude working there acted annoyed to have to ring me up, barely made eye contact. My two cans were $9 and change. I gave him a $20 bill. He gave me back all singles as change. I folded them and put them in my wallet. When I got home I counted them, $8. Here's the thing. Sometimes singles stick together and two can seem like one. However, it doesn't go the opposite direction. Homeboy shorted me $2 in change. It's not really $2 that bothers me, it's that this guy was a skeevy ahole and padded his own wallet by shorting my change. It's the ethics of it. I'll never go to the Cellar again, and I can't say I'd ever recommend anyone else go either. That's some petty, lame S right there. Really obnoxious and annoying. One star for terrible dishonest employees. I'll come back later and post and update if ownership responds in any way to this.

Remember that this place is right on the college drag, so it is more popular with college students and is usually full weekend nights

Ive been here the past few years several times and this review is a culmination of of all of them. I think the place was originally called the Greeks. Food wise The fries as well as the loaded fries are the best bargain you would get in town. For 3.50 and around 7$ the quantity is a lot especially for a bar and they taste great! Some of their pizzas are unique, especially their pitas pizza, my friend seemed to like them a lot. Their spinach and artichoke dip with pitas was a great appetizer. They arguably have the second best gyros in town. Their drinks are reasonably priced Service is great and staff are extremely friendly. They are pretty prompt and I've gotten a round on the house a couple of times before. Overall, this is one of my top 3 go to bars on blacksburg.

The upstairs is cramped and the downstairs is uniquely rustic but food is great, (the blackened salmon is my wife and daughter's favorite in the area). They have live music (not sure what days) and a myriad of beer to drink there or purchase next door. Have enjoyed my experience each time we have gone.

The atmosphere was... Interesting... I mean it was a literal cellar so it was cool. The food though wasn't that great. I got a Greek spaghetti with sauteed vegetables and while it was alright, it really needed some more herbs and spices on it.

My favorite place in town! Have never had food here I didn't love. Gets crowded during games and on weekends, but that's to be expected in a college town. Has the biggest list of shots and cocktails I've ever seen. Cozy place that has live blues music on Mondays, and amazing Greek and Italian style food, and a combination of other bar-style food. Portion sizes are HUGE, and prices are fair.

I have eaten at The Cellar since the mid 1980's as a Hokie, and continue enjoying their food now as a VT parent. I look forward to eating at the Cellar every time we visit! From the pita and dip to the Greek spaghetti to their pizza (they even have gluten free pizza!), I have never had a bad meal or bad experience in all my years eating there. I called Cellar restaurant now a girl picked up and I asked her to check from her backend system if the amount was taken or just pending. The girl was very rude while I was still inquiring, she said I have no time for you, I told you what u should do, and hung up on me. I called again complaining why did u hang up on me? She hung up on me again. Now, she intentionally blocking the line and it gives me busy. I am really frustrated from her way? Is it normal to hang up on your clients? I wish a corrective measure would be done!

When we actually have had the opportunity to eat the food, it is pretty good. However, when we went around lunch time last weekend, we ended up leaving. We seated ourselves, we were told someone would be with us shortly. No one ever came to take our orders and they didn’t even bother to clean the table off from the previous customers. We ended up sitting at a plate filled, dirty table for 15-20 minutes to no avail, so we left and went next door to Sharkey’s. If you get someone to wait on you, it’s good food but they are always slow regardless!

We had a great experience at The Cellar. The bar staff was fun, friendly, attentive, and smart: they politely refused service to some very intoxicated and belligerent patrons who continued to harass them for more and more drinks, which would have been miserable to everyone around them if they had continued being served. The beer selection is great. We really enjoyed our bottle of grapefruit hibiscus cider, and had fun with the $2/$3 "luck of the draw" beers (which ended up being a Highland brewery selection, a great deal). The atmosphere is cool and private, too!

I don't drink much, but it's a great place to bring your friends who like to drink! From 7 to 9 pm they run a special called "hammer time". I think it's half priced pitchers. I don't think you can get it when you're alone though. They also have a thing called luck of the draw which is $2 bottles. I'm not a big drinker, nor a beer drinker, but they do have a few ciders on tap. Nothing too interesting; mainly Strongbow and Woodchuck.
