We had the chicken Alfredo and the mussels were delicious! Very nice atmosphere
My favorite restaurant. I came from Indianapolis IN just to have their Osso Bucco. My mouth had been watering for this dish. I have tried this dish at other restaurants and they can't compare. The service was fantastic as it always was …
I am not from the area but was in Alexandria to meet relatives for a family dinner. I must say from the appetizers to dessert everything was on point and delicious. I had beef for my main course which was seasoned quite nicely and was very …
Delicious Dinner last night. Oyster rockeffeler, caesar salad, softshell crabs saute in shallots butter all very good.
On the spur of the moment we lunched at the Tempo. The salmon made a fine presentation, the crab soup was super, and the caesar salad delicious. We're new to the area and were delighted to discover this lovely restaurant with tablecloths, cloth napkins, water and wine glasses at reasonable prices. . .
I was appalled that I could not get a small side of spaghetti with my veal entree. Have never got that here or any Italian restaurant. Hated the veggies I was forced to accept.
I read the reviews and went with my wife and mother in law to have dinner last night. The food was bad, my wife's capellini with tomato sauce were inedible, the worst I have tasted. The tortellini were ok, my fish, so so. Very bad iced tea. Service, bad. The waiter, after my protest about the capellini, did not charge me for them. He just saved his 20% tip with his gesture. I do not recommend this joint.
Great food and service. Excellent wine.
Cool unique place with a great staff and delicious food!
Great foods for very good prices. Parking right in front of the restaurant. One of my favorite restaurant. My absolute favorites are the oyster rockefeller and lobster Linguine. And save room for their wonderful dessert selections also.
We had a lovely Sunday brunch meal. I highly recommend the French Toast. It is rich and fluffy and seasoned in the most lovely way and covered in fresh fruit. We had the blueberry tart for dessert. It is a fabulous cream base with bold blueberries exploding throughout. Yum! The service was excellent. The interior has whimsical art including "Rock, Paper, Scissors" and "The Basic Food Groups". The pricing is moderate for dishes. Try Tempo and experience the music of Sunday brunch!

Very small, brunch was delicious. Not kid friendly.
They have great Tuesday deals, the food is usually enjoyable classic dishes. Yes it attracts an older crowd but the decor is cute and the quaint atmosphere is perfect for a conversational date. Bon Appetit!
Nice meal. Quiet, comfortable atmosphere. Friendly service. Huge selection of desserts. Italian food, but seems to have a French influence too. We tried the Fettuccine Bolognese and the Liver & Onions. Both were delicious.
We asked google for restaurants near us and Tempo was a delightful surprise find. Our meals were excellent. The staff was friendly and very attentive. Menu is half french, half italian. Salads were great. Our adult beverages were made perfect. And our shared dessert and coffee ended the meal just right. We're looking forward to going back.
Amazing food and great service, definitely plan on returning.
Nice small and quiet restaurant. Usually an older crowd. Good service. Fun fact- the building was originally a gas station.
Always delicious! Great lunches.
The food was great. The servers were...grouchy.
Tempo is almost always a wonderful evening. The food, especially the seafood, is consistently good and the specials are usually a delight. The staff is courteous, fun and willing to participate in your evening as much or as little as you want them to. You really can't go wrong with Tempo.
Great food. I really like their liver and onions.
Crab soup ok, beef medallions awesome
Tempo is a great spot to grab a cheap 3-course meal with a bottle of wine for two for only $55! This deal is available on Monday and Tuesday only and has a fixed (but good!) menu. Also the service people are friendly and service was overall good. Food was excellent.
Great food and atmosphere.
They are absolutely amazing even the service deserves a five star rating
Consistently excellent cuisine/service
We had a great birthday celebration. Chris coordinated a lovely night for us
The food and service were amazing. Of course I'm going to go back again. I loved it!
Good.
great restaurant
I had lovely vapolicellab and red snapper work family. Love eating in Alexandria
This is such a cute homie restaurant with great food.
Best place for a variety of fish entrees, perfectly cooked!
Fresh seafood although traditional in its presentation. Very good coffee and desserts too.
Always a must stop when I am in Alexandria, Va.
After reading other reviews, we ventured in and the inside was warm and chic environment. The food deserving of 5 stars right down to the kahlua cheesecake. The service was impeccable. It's obvious the owner takes a great sense of pride in the cleanliness, service and meal preparation. Good neighborhood find!
Always fabulous food and service. A favorite "special occasion" restaurant for our family for over 20 years.
High-end Italian/French/American fusion cuisine at reasonable prices (most are less than $25, many less than $20). Elegant ambiance with white tablecloths. Excellent for special occasions, anniversaries, birthdays, etc. Separate glassed-in room available for larger parties. Skip the main menu and focus on the daily specials. Owned and run by a couple who live right down the street; he's French and she's from Northern California, so they come up with some unusual (but delicious) combinations. It's our go-to spot when we want to treat ourselves!
Great food and service and always consistently excellent
Cute little restaurant in Alexandria. There is modern art deconstructed food items on the walls. There were plenty of Italian food offerings on the menu catering to different dietary restrictions and preferences from vegetarian to gluten free (although not many vegan choices). At the end of the meal they brought out a beautiful dessert tray where you get to choose the dessert you would like for the day.
Lunch, soft shell crab for me, my daughter had an angel hair pasta special. Superb! I do not like pasta but this was a wonderful and I thoroughly enjoyed it. My daughter had to go to work and I have had her leftovers hope she isn't mad at me
Great food And good service. Thank you.
I haven't been to a French restaurant before. The food was good and the residents whom I bought there for lunch were very pleased as well and they had some really cool art on the walls. Not to mention it was a very well lit restaurant.
Food was excellent. But the service was horrible. We had a new waitress. Everyone was served ,but forgot my order. No one ever asked us if everything was ok . But they offer me a free glass of orange juice while I was waiting for my meal. Big disappointment.
Our waiter Chris was outstanding. Very friendly, attentive, knowledgeable and funny. Food was awesome. Crab soup was delicious, also oysters rockefellar were SO good. I ate the softshell crab and it was one of the best things I've eaten. They cook the crabs to order. And the deserts are all homemade, we ended up getting three and one to go. Pannacotta was the best, it had lavendar and I think tiny pieces of orange (not sure) in ot which gave it a very pleasant spiciness.
An excellent selection of fish entrees to accompany the French/Italian dishes. The sauces are outstanding, that is why we keep coming back. It is and has been one of our favorites for many years.
4.6 overall. We were celebrating Diane’s birthday and she loves this restaurant! We made orders to have the waitstaff return- we are so sorry wrong menus and we are out of two items on those menus- crazy, we know. It’s great restaurant with good staff.
One of our favorites. Very good food and wine. Their Monday Tuesday special - two 3 course dinners with a bottle of wine for $55 can't be beat.
Excellent food, superb service. The staff was get attentive and friendly. Wonderful atmosphere. Key Lime pie was simply incredible. Prices were very reasonable.
Lunch specials during the Alexandria Restaurant Week
Excellent food
A wonderful, creative meal to enjoy. Lovely atmosphere with impeccable service. Always a great dining experience. Highly recommended.
Very good and specials on Monday and Tuesday. And this one of the very few restaurants that does not play music so one can have a conversation with your dinner mates without yelling.
An upscale cosy Italian Restaurant tucked in a corner on the main highway. Serving exquisite pasta and wine, the service is fantastic. I ordered a portion of the tomato mozzarella and it was really fresh and delicious. For my mains, the chef prepared a special vegetarian pasta for me and I relished every bite. To top it all, you get to choose your desert from a bunch of options displayed to you on your table! The waiter will bring a tray of the deserts available for you to pick your poison. I choose the dark chocolate mousse, and I did not regret my choice. Overall, a fabulous dinner. Easy to miss this spot, but a must visit!
Lovely dinner with extended family celebrating my Aunt Bea!
Quaint restaurant with great Italian food!
Excellent food but the atmosphere is lacking. The restaurant draws an older crowd and its very quiet. It would have been nice to have some light music playing as there is an awkward silence in the air. The pasta is fantastic!
Brunch was amazing and I plan on a return trip for dinner. They apparently offer a three course meal plus bottle of wine for 2 at 55 dollars a person. The consome was absolutely perfect and so tasty. My pasta with chicken, broccoli, fresh tomatoes in a lovely light white sauce was just perfect. Wonderful and attentive staff kept my water and coffee full when wanted. My cherry pisco sour really was the star a perfect cocktail. This place can become pricey fast but I say allow it they keep such fresh ingredients and the products it's not a slight on the customer. It's also such a nice hidden gem where places are slammed on brunch day I was able to get a table. A neighborhood treat and treasure. My only complaint is I was so full by my entrée that I didn't get to try dessert.
I love this place, it is quite and the atmosphere is good
Loved it.
and the food is always good service is always good
A wonderful dining experience. The food was very good and Chris, our waiter, could not have been more attentive, accommodating or pleasant! I highly recommend this restaurant!
The food is outstanding. The staff and atmosphere make for a perfect dinner.
I've been going to Tempo for over 12 years and love this place every bit as much as the first time. Service is unbelievable as always
My family and I have been to Tempo a few times before and previously had all positive experiences. My opinion of this restaurant changed completely this evening when I had the unfortunate experience of being greeted by the owner, Wendy. I found Wendy to be extremely pretentious and condescending. We had a misunderstanding over seating. An issue that never should have occurred in the first place since most of the tables were open when we arrived. My mother made an Open Table reservation for dinner. In the “special request” section of the Open Table reservation, she asked for a quiet table, if possible, because a member of our party has a hearing impairment. When we arrived at the restaurant, we asked if we could be seated at one particular table in the back of the restaurant. On previous visits to the restaurant, we had been seated there and it was relatively quiet. While Wendy said we could sit at that table, she made us feel like she was doing us an enormous favor, since that table wasn’t the exact table that “Open Table” selected for us. She then loudly continued on her tirade about the way that Open Table works. She had no intention of letting me speak. Had she allowed me to get a word in edgewise, I would have explained to her that I do indeed understand the way Open Table works. I also understood that she was willing to seat us at the table we requested. However, the problem was Wendy’s patronizing attitude. The correct customer service response to our simple request should have been, “I would be happy to place you at that table.” At least now I understand why this small restaurant never seems to be very busy. Fortunately, Alexandria has many restaurants to chose from with far better food, decor, and customer service.
Being unfamiliar with the area, I went to Google and asked for a good lunch Place. Tempo came up and my daughter and I gave it a try. We were absolutely bowled over. The flavors were amazing, the food was wonderful, and it evokes Europe where the service is steady and careful and the food is wonderful. We will definitely go again.
The chicken alfredo was one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten in my life. The key lime pie was also very good. The presentation of the food was very appealing, it's a fancy place (no dress code, though), and the staff was very attentive. A great place for a romantic, delicious dinner.
Good food and great service!!
Tempo has been a family favorite since shortly after they opened. As usual, all of the meals at our table were excellent. My trout and scallops were perfectly prepared, without a single bone. We know most of the wait staff well since they have been there for years and continue to provide outstanding service. Love this restaurant!
Slow service. Multi hour wait for mediocrity
Lovely restaurant. A gem for Alexandria.
The lamb chops were fantastic, fried calamari, Caesar salad, and the medallions Roquefort also delicious. Sorry I didn’t get a pic of those, they were devoured too fast. The food is very good. Don’t be put off by the modern ambience.
Small, cozy restaurant. Great food, great service. A long time favorite.
Delicious food, great wine, great service! We had dinner there on 2-3-15. Myself, husband and 12 year old daughter. Would highly recommend.
Wonderful food with excellent choices and a 3 course fixed price for two on Monday and Tuesday with bottle of wine! Service was excellent and beautiful decor makes lovely memories.
Food good, service good, would go back, place locals know
I have never had a bad meal here. Is it the most modern menu? No. But it tastes pretty good. Is the clientele older? Yes, but they're not pushing up daisies. Desserts are tasty. Service is fine. Not overpriced. Have been here half a dozen times in the past year, and will go back.
Food tastes like a retirement home, which fits the clientele. If you're under 70, don't bother.
Great restaurant with a fixed price menu option that includes a bottle of wine and the dessert tray is the highlight of the meal. Would recommend again easily.
A very warm and Welcoming place. People are very glad to assist you. All the food which is served is fresh. Nothing frozen ever. The food is mostly Northen Italian and real French. Good selection of wines. The price for a dinner of two is very reasonable. Desserts are delicious and fresh made on the premises. Go and enjoy it, you won't go wrong!
Good food, staff rushed us out even though another table was still there. Kinda killed the vibe. Actually great food brought this to three stars instead of the one star the service made me want to give it. No music, and felt like the AC was off.
most of the time, the food is great. unfortunately, it isn't consistent. while we've never had a bad meal here, once in a while, it is pretty good, but not great. chef have a day off? not our problem. the fact that we keep coming back means it isn't average enough to worry about.
Great restaurant!!!
The food is delicious, the staff charming, and the art work delightful. 10 Oct., my second visit, convinced me that this place is definitely to be on one's repeat list.
As always, delicious dinner and friendly staff at a reasonable price. Also a quiet place to dine.
