REVIEWS OF Old Ebbitt Grill IN Virginia

We ended up just walking through here but not staying to eat. It's a beautiful place with a lot of really interesting things posted about the history. The photo I've Attached to this post is of a thing that was outside the building. Such a unique way to display history.

A classy, classic oyster bar mere steps away from the White House. Its oyster happy hour is a mandatory stop for everyone that's in the area, and its food and cocktails are not far behind! By far the greatest concern of the grill is to find enough space, either at one of their four bars, or at a table, during happy hour.

Virginia Williams

Amazing food and high energy atmosphere. Peach sangria is awesome! I highly recommend the smoked salmon pate.

Samuel Young

Right across the street from the White House. It has a really cool, old school feel that you can't buy. This place has been around since 1856 and the atmosphere is great! The food and the service we're amazing. This is a great place for brunch. Menu has plenty of options to choose from, especially if you like oysters. A couple will spend around $40, without drinks.

Angie Douglas

The best crab cakes I have ever had. The staff was amazing. I would recommend reservations. We arrived a little early for our reservation but we were seated right away. The clam chowder was also good. A nice wine selection. Not too expensive for how nice the restaurant is. A must do when in DC.

Jerry Cooper

Pasta was perfectly cooked with the right amount of cheese, sauce, sausage and noodles. One of the best old fashioneds I have had and the Oysters Rockefeller were stellar.

Travis Howard

Our favorite spot in DC, we've been going for years. Their service and menu both are outstanding. Whether you are a local or visitor, you can't go wrong here.

Chad Magill

Great service, friendly people and enjoyable ambiance. We enjoyed several different oyster types and the artichoke crab dip. We very much enjoyed this first visit and will be back

Brian Impson

Food was good although the breakfast sausages were a little dry. Nice atmosphere. Nice menu. Service was below par. Had to request twice to have my coffee refilled and then got only a half cup both times. Waiter was very polite.

Comfortable atmosphere. I had a delicious meal of salmon with mushrooms and asparagus. The dish had a nice flavor and was cooked properly. Tried the crab cakes, which I do not recommend ordering. They were very mushy and flavorless. The oysters were well seasoned and were enjoyable. The service is great-fast and friendly. This is the place to go for any occasion!

Dan

I took the lunch here a couple of times although I initially planned to try more restaurants. The food was fantastic, definitely above what I've tried in NY and the other DC restaurants. It's also inexpensive.

Carlos Finns

Great service. Very clean, food was delicious, very nice service and we had a great time. Thank you :)

Eleanor Staine

Lots of people call ahead for reservations. Dinner was good. The ribs are fabulous. Beautiful inside comfortable atmosphere. A bit pricy.

Hannah Byrd Little

Love this restaurant it was cozy and historic. It has a list of the presidents that have eaten at the restaurant in the front section. It goes all the way back to Ulysses S Grant. Also I enjoyed one of the sea food offerings the shrimp and grits and the sauce with the shrimp was delicious and had a hint of gumbo rue The grits were cheesy and delicious. My friends enjoyed the scallops and the crab cakes which are two of their specialties.

Olof

Nice environment, but I would have to say it’s a bit overrated in delivery. Very crammed sitting as well as the usual difficulty in getting a reservation. The staff was friendly. But the food was mediocre to say the best with my piece of chicken being dry as a washcloth. So pleasant environment but disappointing in taste.

Terry Lack

Fun place... great service and great food... recommended!

Yvonne Kelly

I really liked this place! My coworkers took me here on my first trip to DC and I must say that it didn't disappoint. It has a very old school DC feel to it, and basically provided the type of experience that I had hoped to receive. You can almost just picture business men in suits sitting in the bar area with their scotchs and cigars. The service was friendly and excellent and the menu quite diverse. I started by ordering calamari and bone marrow as an appetizer for the table. Both were excellent...the calamari was very fresh and lightly breaded, and the bone marrow was very tasty and buttery. For my meal I ordered a side salad and blackened shrimp and grits. Both were excellent and I was pleasantly surprised that there were a ton of large shrimp served with the grits! I was expecting probably half as many as they brought. One of my coworkers ordered some type of fish from the menu and I must say that the filet was HUGE and looked quite delicious. I was very pleased with this place and will definitely go back if/when I ever have the chance to be in DC again.

Katrina Rios

I forgot to write a review but my son & I went to Old Ebbitt Grill 7/12/19. We enjoyed the ambiance, the old hat and jacket hooks on the end of the tables. The history you could see throughout the restaurant. Loved the food & customer service. I would for sure go again

Jein Gallaher

We went there for breakfast and what a pleasant experience it's been. Great food, very fresh, fantastic atmosphere, attentive service. A beautiful historical tavern, with real gas lamps. Only steps away for the White House. Worth a visit!

Everything was perfect. The cheese sampler and oysters were my favorite. Our waitress was wonderful and the atmosphere was lovely. This is my go to spot now

Stopped by after hanging out at the National History Museum. On the way to the train station my wife (after living in DC for a few years) said we had to stop. I'm really glad we did. As hot as it was outside, it was great to have a nice comfortable booth with some reasonably priced cocktails. Even better, the oysters and shrimp were half off! Everything seemed fresh and the waiter was friendly and helpful with choosing oysters. Got really busy towards the end and was hard to get our check to catch the train on time. Other than that, would definitely come back!

Enrique Soto

Oh boy! This place has a magic feel to it, the architecture and design inside the restaurant take you to a different time and place. It’s located a few blocks from all the monuments and museums and it’s right across the street from the White House. The food is super delicious and well priced. Don’t forget to try the delicious French-Toast.

Ricardo Lucas

It was cool to be in such an old and historic restaurant but this place is bustling and the jam-packed atmosphere might take a little bit away from the overall experience. I felt a little odd ordering the Chicken & Waffle from a restaurant that is over a 100 years old but I was certainly not disappointed. We also shared the Oysters Rockefeller and Jumbo Lump Crab Cake (based on recommendations) and were pleasantly surprised because these are two items I generally would not have gone for.

paul stanifer

Absolutely great find. Outstanding food and service. The oysters are super fresh. You won't go wrong selecting this location for your next happy hour stop.

Michael Campbell

Great atmosphere. Would be a great place to go to alone. I was recommended to get the crab cakes and oh boy, it was a good suggestion. Possibly best I have ever eaten. The service was fantastic. Jay was my server at the bar and he was an absolute gift. Friendly and helpful. Next time I am in Washington DC I am absolutely returning. Thanks Old Ebbitt!

Ron Huddleston

Terrific food! Service was good. Server was attentive and friendly. Made it a point to recommend dishes to us and steak cook perfectly.

Kiel Known

The Clyde's Group does a great job making each of their venues unique. The Old Ebbitt Grill embodies the history of the tavern, the surrounding area and Washington DC. The food was great. Two in our party had the crab cakes--an excellent local favorite. My spouse loved the meatloaf. They always do their best to server locally grown and sourced ingredients. I'd suggest a reservation. It was busy on a Sunday night.

Kim Linonis

Great staff with excellent pacing. Food was fantastic. Must visit. Classic DC.

Heather Relation

A really cool restaurant not to far from the national Mall. The oldest restaurant in town and the y kept that atmosphere. The food was great. I had the quinoa burger with mushrooms and melted Swiss. It was delicious. I even ate the bun, it was so good. My husband had a crab cake Bennie. Very unique and really tasty. Our server was so nice. She every have is some tips on other museums to go to with fun exhibits for our young boys. National Building Museum and one of the art museums we would never have thought of going to.

Nicole Lopez

Great experience from the beginning to the end. My son and I went to this great place on a Friday that was quite busy. I made reservations but found it was for the wrong day. Despite my mistake, they were so generous and still honored the time. I was amazed at the great service because they could have easily made us wait. Service like that shows the difference between good service and great service. Good waiter, good food, and good service. A few menu items could use minor changes but still good. Complimentary bread so yummy. We'll definitely return.

Jennifer Massey Kras

I had the grilled artichoke and meatloaf, hands down the best of both that I've ever had. Make sure to make a reservation.

Sadequi Hamilton

Love the food.. Staff is very friendly. Prices are fair considering the restaurant is across the street from the White House. I 100% recommend going

Tiffany Baker

Good food and good service. The crab & artichoke dip was delicious. But my main entree could have been better. Our waitress was very quick and serviced us well. Thank you!!!

Carlos F. Orta

Forgot how great this place was! Outstanding service from Antoine. Tasty Eggs Benedicts and potato fries! Make a reservation as the place tends to get packed!!!

Mike Kelley

such a great atmosphere. Joe's American Grill wholesale ripped this place off on their style. the food was great and so was the service

Nancy Fangman

I love this restaurant! Great food ,atmosphere and service. I had a cherry blossom Martini that was perfect. My husband and also tried the calamari and oysters crab cakes and strawberry shortcake. It's best plan ahead and make a reservation.

Vince Patterson

Loved the atmosphere, the service was terrific. Our waiter Johnny was fun and added to the experience. If in a visit to The Old Ebbitt Grill is a must

Carlos A Ramirez

What a great place to eat. Steps from the White House is this little gem. Service was excellent and the food was even better. We were sat in the back seating area next to a small bar and a unisex bathroom. You are totally isolated from the rest of the restaurant there. We started with the Crab and Artichoke Dip which was served with bread. The dip was very tasty and not greasy. As my main course I had the Maryland Day Boat Scallops. They were served in a bed of succotash. A very light yet hearty meal. Others in my table had the Steak Salad and the Cornmeal Crusted Chesapeake Bay Blue Catfish. Both meals were great and there were no complaints. For dinner we split a Blackberry Shortcake, Hot Fudge Brownie Sundae and a Creme Brulee. I went with the servers suggestion of the Blackberry Shortcake and I was not disappointed. The Virginia Blackberries were very tasty along with the fresh whip cream made my dessert choice the best out of the three. When I'm in DC again I definitely want to come back for a great meal or just a drink.

Denise Wellington

I think I am an unofficial expert on clam chowder. My husband ordered clam chowder and I ordered their cheese burger. The clam chowder was the best. I would definitely come back for the chowder. Probably the best I have ever tasted. We are having desert now. Check out the pic of the cheesecake.

Lan Nguyen

Was looking for a place to eat after midnight and found this great restaurant. Also was lucky enough to hit them during half price oyster happy hours which ranges from 3-6pm and 11pm-1am. The oysters were amazing, best to eat it with just lemon to fully enjoy the taste of the oysters. The clams and shrimp were good as well. For the main Entree, i had the crab cakes and this alone is worth coming here by itself. Full of crab meat and perfectly cooked. The fries that came was perfect as well. The interior here is very classy and they have plenty of seats for those who come alone or for two. Highly recommended.

Brian Garrett

This is our "go to place" when we are in the DC area. And it did not disappoint this time either. The staff was exceptionally friendly and seated us at the bar while we waited for our table. We had arrived a tad bit earlier then our reservation so it was a short wait but well worth the time. People on either side were 'out of towers' like us and we had a great conversation. We were then seated at our table. My wife and ordered the scallops and crabs cakes and we shared each meal between us. Both were outstanding! We live on Puget Sound and are used to having an abundance of Dungeness crab, BUT nothing compares to the crabs cakes from the blue crabs! If you plan to go, please try the crab cakes -you won't be disappointed.

Julie Evans

Make sure to plan for a wait, or to sit at the bar when seats become available, during busy hours. I got the Oktoberfest platter, which was tasty. And the cheese sampler had a good variety with a cool twist. Bar tender was attentive and friendly. Food came without a long wait. Prices were fairly good.

Shaina Ziggler

Incredible hospitality! Mostly diverse staff serving the general public. Great bar for social gathering and easy food and drinks. Great place to stop after visiting the local attraction. Tons of bars at this ONE location (there’s a downstairs restaurant too). Sorry no pictures guys.

James Flaherty

This is one of my favorite places in the city and an absolute must visit anytime I'm in town! There is a classy yet historical feel to the place. It's somehow simultaneously comforting and classy. A block away from the White House, understand you'll be paying a little more, however the prices are far from unreasonable. The menu is impressive. The detail in describing the different types of oysters was much appreciated as I didn't know there were different types. I recommend exploring the menu. I've never had a bad meal. The bars (there are 4 in this place!) are comfortable and the bartenders are smart, engaging, and inventive. They will make your drink or cocktail to perfection, or if you're wanting to try something new, their mixology skills are impressive enough that you can both describe a flavor you're after or trust them to develop something you'll absolutely love.

Sam Skariah

The ambience was really nice and the history that goes with the place makes it a good experience. Tried oysters for the first time and I would say that it’s an acquired taste. The meatloaf and the crab cakes were good. It was a busy time in the evening and service was a little slow. Overall, I’d rate it an 8/10 on my own personal rating.

Robyn Creswell

Tal offered phenomenal service at the bar. He really went the extra mile to make sure my drink and food orders were timely and perfect. Food was delicious!

Doty Rosecrans

Each town has the places you just need to try. DR is one of them. I tried it for the first time many years ago, and since then I can say I am a regular here. Good food, good vibe, iconic place, and amazing food. If you haven't so far, you need to.

Maggie Sweeney

Very cool, historic place. Lots of interesting art and decor. Good food, quick service. Don't be discouraged by a long wait...there are often open seats at one of the four bars. Close to the White House, monuments, and museums.

Ryan Marzo

The food was good - not spectacular but good. Unfortunately we were pretty grossed out when a cockroach crawled onto the table and made a run for my dinner plate. Thankfully I was pretty much finished with my meal because my appetite was completely gone.

GM Bown

Had an awesome lunch here. The history of this place was amazing too. Great waitstaff. The crab cakes and scallops were excellent. Also had grilled artichoke which I’ve never seen before. It was great. Not a cheap place to eat but worth it..,

Emma P

The fried oyster stew was amazing. I would go back just for that dish alone. Everything we ate was great (including the bone marrow and blackened shrimp and grits). I personally would have liked a bigger portion for the soft shell crab, but it was still good nonetheless!

Diane

It's old time Washington tavern. It's historical, upscale staff. Very good tavern food. Cocktails are unique and delicious.

David Pittman

I took my good friend to Old Ebbitt Grill for her birthday because she wanted oysters. The food and service were very good. At the end of our meal we ordered one dessert to share, and it arrived with "Happy Birthday" written in sauce around the edge of the plate. The noise level was fairly loud but shouting wasn't necessary. I understand why this place is still very popular after so many years.

R B

I now believe the hype of "the Best Crabcakes." The best way I can describe it is like a firmly fried hash brown -but not charred or overcooked. It's like the lovechild of a buttery, flaky, biscuit; a perfect hash brown; and fantastic crab flavor. Thomas was our waiter, and he was the best waiter I've likely ever had. I could swear I wrote a review months ago -closer to when I visited.

James S

Definitely a DC favorite for those visiting around the White House and United States Capitol area. Tourist should definitely check it out, not too pricey, especially with the upscale atmosphere and great staff. Oh, and the food amazing as well, don't believe me? Try it out!

Brandon Nardoianni

Such a historic and beautiful place. The staff is hands down one of the best in the nation! Try ther white gummy bear shooter, you won't be disappointed!

Robert Russ

The meatloaf was excellent! Service was really good and very quick. It's a popular spot so can be a bit loud.

Kyle McAdams

What more can you say! Cool historical place to eat. I had the brioche french toast. It was amazing. I also had pirate cove oysters. They where nice plump Briney with a slight hint of sweetness.

Ben Duske

The food was awesome, the service even better. Thanks goes to my Uber driver for telling me about this jewel. Not only was it an amazing dining experience, it was in one of the oldest restaurants in the U.S. established 1865

Jeff B

The people we went with encouraged me to have the chicken and waffles. The waffle was cold, the two small pieces chicken were overcooked and also cold. I would have sent it back, but I didn't want to embarrass the others at the table. I later found out that another at our table thought their ruben was incredibly salty.

A A

Horrible service, bland food. Ordered an appetizer that was supposed to come with bagel chips. They bring it out and there's bread instead. I said to the server that I believe this comes with bagel chips and he said no, it always comes with bread. I asked to see the menu. When I pointed it out to him, he said, we're out. Nasty attitude. Manager came by to ask how everything was, I explained the situation and he didn't care either. Absolutely horrible service, management didn't care and bland food.

Valerie Chandler

Fresh and delicious! I had the lunch single serving crab cake with light crisp potatoes two weeks straight. Both times, perfect! The service is fast and smart... Very organized, friendly and clean!

Antionette Ballard

Loved this establishment. Staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable or menu items. Would highly recommend and cant wait to return

Roy Vajdak

Good food at a reasonable price and the service was excellent. However the place is very noisy.

Michael Whelan

Old Ebbitt Grill is a upper class restaurant with a very classy bar. The restaurant is located 3 blocks from the White House. Old Ebbitt Grill has gas lighting, cherrywood banisters and pink marble floors. In the individual restrooms I notice the area extremely clean, well stocked with cloth napkins and soap. Which had a very pleasant aroma. The staff was knowledgeable, professional and friendly. I have gone to Old Ebbitt Grill twice. First time only to drink. Second time we had dinner. Both times we had a wonderful time and would definetly go back next time we are in Washington, D.C.

Jason Hardee

One of my favorite restaurants. The atmosphere and decor allows you to truly step back in time. I recommend the oysters and/or the crab cake. Both were delicious and very fresh.

Lizzy McNair

My partner and I went here just for a few drinks after the white house tour. It was super busy, but if your just getting drinks you don't have to be wait listed for a table. The bartender was informative and we had a great chat with him.

Linda Larkin

Can't wait to return! Generally I like to go to new places but I will have to make an exception. This is great food, service, and atmosphere.

Omar Flores

The chicken and waffle here are exceptional. The french toast is also amazing and comes with candied pecans on top. I wish I could try everything here!

Allen Dennis

Classic, old school. Cool & dark. Best oysters anywhere. All food is good. Wait staff excellent. Highly recommended.

0r1g1n3w Gr33n

Packed yet friendly as always. The old lady next to me actually knew how to speak jive. Impressive or ...? Anyway... New keg gave me warm beer and bartender made it right. Thanks for the free brewski!

Hilary Roberts

Stopped in for drinks and oysters with friends. We were visiting DC and I ordered a Brandy Old Fashioned and the bartender correctly guessed that we were visiting from Wisconsin based solely on my choice of beverage. It was one of the best I’ve had! He was lovely to chat with and our oysters were fresh and delicious.

Steven Ariza

Got to love The Old Ebbitt. A Staple in DC! Food is consistent and the staffs are always smiling, they love their job and it shows in service. Great Raw Bar Happy Hour, Twice daily! Bartenders remembers your name and your drinks, a rare gesture these days.

Ashton Menefee

Our go-to in DC, always packed but usually easy to get a spot at one of the bars. The bartenders are awesome, drinks fantastic and the menu has whatever you want for any mood. This place also feels authentic, like old DC, just a great atmosphere. Don’t let the long line turn you off, head in and go to a back bar and enjoy yourself.

Steve Pagano

Great food in a magnificent historical setting. The menu is expansive without being a novel, with dishes at many different price points. The shrimp and grits was quite excellent, as was the trout. I had a boulevardier which was made very well. Portion size was larger than expected. Service was attentive, polite, and well trained. The place itself is a stunner: chandeliers, paintings, etched glass. The bar features decor donated by Teddy Roosevelt! With this much history and this good a meal, this place is a must.

E Jules

Great service and excellent food. Enjoyed happy hour (1/2 off oysters). Hamburgers were delicious, perfectly cooked and juicy! We had a toddler and 4 year old with us and that was fine. We stopped by for a late lunch after a day at the Smithsonian (Natural History). We were too early for the $15 valet parking, so check your timing if you're looking for that. Definitely recommend making reservations and checking this place out!

Monica Stuchlik

Looking for a tasty crab cake? Look no further. Moist, flaky and flavorful jumbo lump crab cakes. Tasty steak salad. Terrific service.

Matthew Wilson

It’s worth a trip just to say you’ve dined in the oldest saloon in DC. The appetizers and oysters were legit. The entrees were okay. The beef quality was low. Filet minion should not need to be smothered in gravy. Gluten free options are limited but good. They are knowledgeable.

Annette H.

This is another must-visit while in DC, been around forever although it's moved locations at least once. It's always bustling and we knew it might be difficult to secure a table as walk-ins. So we opted to eat at the bar in the rear section when we noticed several unoccupied seats there. The female bartender was awesome! Real hustle and unmatched efficiency. I just got the Caesar salad (added grilled chicken) but it was great. Such a cool place, we hope to return soon!

Laura Garofalo

Food is delicious and although a tad pricey, portions are very generous. Several classic American options, as well as extensive oyster and seafood selection. Lunch and breakfast were excellent. Atmosphere is loud and busy but not unbearable. Service was great. Would go again.

Scott Marler

Fantastic Rueben. Very noisy, which is nice if you're looking for a decent place where children aren't disruptive. A bit touristy. Recommend making a reservationt beforehand.

Zora Kay

I came here for a going away lunch for a college. I love the regal air here. It is so much history in this place. Very expensive place, but it is definitely worth it, when you are trying to impress business associates. If you are trying to make a business deal, I highly recommend this place, it has that vibe.

Mark Edwards

Perennial go-to restaurant for that quintessential Washington meal. Great service to boot while sitting at the bar. Kitchen made an error with one order; the bartender quickly straightened things out--and comped our beverages as well. (All without a word from us.) It's why I'll keep coming back with family, friends and by myself.

Nancy Dugan

Amazing atmosphere. Highly recommend you check out this landmark restaurant. I was on business alone and had great conversations and laughs with the regular customers at the bar plus reasonably priced, delicious food.

Alex Plott

Great drinks and good food! Old Ebbitt is a DC classic. The food prices can be a little much, but the drinks are cheap (for DC)! I've had mostly good experiences here. The only thing I'll say is to expect to wait for food and drinks. It's a very busy restaurant and the wait staff can be a little slow. Overall, go check out this classic!!

Samantha Dickey

Has a good meal here for restaurant week. And didn't have to wait long in line even though it was a weekend. I will say we had a smaller bill and split an entree, and as soon as our server realized we weren't big spenders. The quality of the service went way down. Overall a decent experience. The oystwrs rockefeller and meatloaf special was very good.

John Muller

Bartender was very personable. He recommended an oyster on the half shell platter with 5 varieties. All were delicious.

Sheila Lo Monaco

Delicious food great atmosphere, friendly staff. It’s not cheap but the food is worth it. Bathrooms are inconvenient to get to it. It gets busy, but it’s a very large restaurant with lots of space. I had to eat the Trout a Parmesan, the crab cakes and the fried calamari. The sauce on the side of the fried calamari was perfect. We eat too quick before I could snap any pictures.

Steve C 032

I've been coming here for decades when in town. The one thing I need to stress about this place is the consistency. The food and service have always been consistent going back...at least 25 years! It's great to know one could always rely and count on a place to provide superior product and service . I'm not a Ravioli fan at all, but the Short Rib Ravioli here was so good! The Grilled Swordfish with lemon confit entree was delicious; definitely one of my favorites.

Victoria Summey

Jay was the best bartender I've ever had. The food there was amazing! They were busy but service was still absolutely great!

Tally Koren

Get the meatloaf. The filet is also superb and the lobster diavolo is delicious. The service was also fantastic, I highly recommend this place for a very classy and enjoyable night out!

Phyllis Marshall

Great food and service. Wort seeing just for the ambiance and decor. Beautiful.

Jaleesa Hopkins

One of my all time favs! Chef is excellent. Healthy and tasty food options. Reasonable prices. Great atmosphere and opens until 2am most days.

M. M.

We were looking for a place open after 9 after getting in late and found Old Ebbit. This place was not only open but was serving delicious food and the cocktails were done very well. There is a lot of room to find a place to relax (3 different bar areas and a few dining rooms). The decor was classy and semi elegant. Would recommend.

Michelle Lafrinere

This is my favorite place in DC. I stop by everytime I'm town. Check out this place for happy hour. I always order their crab claws. They have a great raw bar. You wont be disappointed with anything you order here.

Sendy Nguyen

Over the top service, food, ambiance, management from the bar to the dining room. Clean throughout including restrooms! They Carter to your every need and maintain this high quality even though the place is forever packed with people. There is a wait time, but it's worth it! Highly recommend to everyone.

Catalina Hernández

We loved this place. Delicious food and great service. The portions are generous and prices razonable. The environment of this place is great and ideal for special occasions. I will be back!

Jenna A. Robinson

This restaurant is a popular stand-by for a reason. Excellent service, tasty food. Large menu.

Anthony Belotto

Great place downtown for some food. Gluten free options. Friendly staff.

Mary Mason

The appetizers are delicious. We ordered calamari, soft crab, oysters. The meatloaf is amazing. Would have gave 5 stars, but my food came out cold. They replaced my order, then everything was perfect!!!!

Bliss J

I had steak salad with beer. The salad tastes great! The level, medium rare was perfect. The staff were so busy but definitely kind.

Brett Decker

This is an awesome place to go! The food is amazing! The staff was super awesome! The prices are great! 200% recommend checking it out. Our waitress was Jade B and she was just awesome! Super friendly and checked in after we had time to try our food instead of the usual other restaurant checking while you are taking your first bite. All the food is great so get everything. Highly recommend the Shipwreck Oysters. Our group had to do a second order just because they were that good!

Joel Bradford

What a treat! The decor is absolutely stunning and so richly detailed. The clam chowder is easily the best I've had in a long time, and that's saying something from someone who's never lived more than an hour from a beach. If you sit at the bar look for Matt - just top notch service all around. I know I'll be back to DC and I know that when I am I'll definitely be back to Old Ebbitt.

Matthew Graham

It's a Clyde's restaurant, so if you like those you will like this one. Location was cool and the place is very large. Tons of historical artifacts all over the walls and in cases throughout.

Helen Kalde

Fantastic service, amazing food and nice atmosphere. Especially popular for their oyster specials. I'm not really a oyster-fan, but I had to try and I have to say it really was delicious. But their non-seafood was great also! Reserve a table (it's even possible online), because it's quite crowded.

Lanier Wexford

Prices are fair, service is good and food was super tasty. We ordered the fried artichoke and 12 oysters to start. My main was the cornedbeef hash from brunch, and the wife had the chicken salad. No disappointments, but salad could be a bit bigger. We will be back.

Rick Korallus

My wife said her salad was the best she ever had. Clam chowder is amazing. The pan seared salmon with corn fritters blew me away. Great place, great staff!

dragon king2720

The food was delicious. We ordered the Calamari, meat loaf and chicken fettuccine alfredo. Service was great. We recommend making a reservation. We waited 55 minutes for a table for two.

Naor Naftali

Order your table upfront, you won’t get disappointed. We enjoyed our time very much. Excellent food and good service. To be honest. The food smelled so good we forgot to take pictures before eating it.

Bill Cunningham

The nice girl behind the bar was Awesome! As hard as it is to find good help these days all of the staff were very friendly and provided great service. Also the oysters and shrimp we're perfect!

Evan S.

While visiting my friend in DC for the weekend and after a day of walking 8+ miles my buddy suggested to walk an extra 2 miles to the Old Ebbitt Grill. As we walked by numerous restaurants I begged that we just stopped at one of those but he insisted that we continue on as it will be worth it in the end. He was absolutely correct. While being a DC staple it drew a larger crowd than I was used too, we were able to go into the back bar and grab a seat right away. We were greeted with unbelievable service, great cocktails, and some of the best calamari I have ever had. I know now why this place is so well known in DC and will definitely be back next time I come to visit!

Ross Harke

Awesome place. Great location near the monuments. Good food. Good selection. Very nice staff. Nothing but good things to say about this place.

Jane Duggan

Server: attentive and delivered food in a timely manner exactly as ordered. Food: cooked to perfection. Atmosphere: happening place, efficiently run. Staff worked together to see that our dining experience was delightful. It's a 10.

Food was quick, servers were friendly. My friends had the shrimp and grits and they said it was good, but the portion was small. We were not offered bread. The peach crisp was pretty good, but it did taste like it was missing something.

Donna Mc

Lovely anniversary lunch while touring DC. Our waiter Greg provided impeccable service and made our visit extra special! The food was excellent and the atmosphere upscale. The attention to detail is worth the pricing.

...always a great night out! You can't go wrong with an oyster happy hour. Even when it's packed (mostly always) service comes with a smile. Make reservations tho!

If you want a true 5-star experience on your trip to DC, make sure to add Old Ebbitt Grill to the itinerary. Located right across the street from the White House (you can actually see it through the front windows), this bar/grill is unlike any you've ever been to. The distracting lights, flashy TV's, and loud songs of typical late-night destinations give way here to gas lit chandeliers, tasteful decor, and laid-back beats. The service was amazing, the prices were great, and the vibe was out of this world! Old Ebbitt Grill is an establishment I will gladly return to time and time again.

Amazing food. Amazing ambience. Attentive and friendly servers. On vacation and decided to come in here to eat. I personally don't enjoy waiting so made reservations. Food came fast. Oysters were fresh. Crab and artichoke dip was really good! Had the hanger steak and boyfriend ordered the filet mignon. Enjoyed it!

Kevin Emery

Absolutely delicious! Worth every penny. It is not a cheap meal but, definitely a case of you get what you pay for. Located right downtown DC it is easy to get to. I would recommend making reservations and planning your visit around the time you get. My steak was as good as a steak I have ever had any where else. My wife and daughter both cleaned their plates.

Angel Angelov

The best burger I've ever had and great beer. Definitely recommend. The waited was more than helpful and nice guy. It was a great pleasure to have a dinner in the Old Ebbit Grill

Brian Glodek

Good food and a timely wait staff. Situated right in the middle of downtown D.C. the Old Ebbit Grill is a local favorite - asked a local where they like to eat - and it shows. It has a colorful past, delicious and very filling food. While I am not an oyster fan, they have an impressive oyster bar that will please any enthusiast. Stop by and you won't be disappointed.

Shane Ryan

Great spot for an afternoon respite with beer & oysters at the bar. Oysters are excellent & 1/2 price between 3-6pm

Lisa Girolametti

The only reason why I took a star away was because the hostess had told us it would be a 40 min wait (so we honestly almost left) but then it ended up being only a 10 minute wait Also it was quite loud. We went Thursday night at 9pm and it was completely packed and noisy Meal was great. Bread was hot and fresh. All four of us had a great meal - lobster pasta, cannolinis and the burger

Jillian Bohach

Such a great place to eat for breakfast!! The staff was so friendly. Our server, Dabra was so kind and on top of everything. The food was so yummy too! I loved the atmosphere it was nice and inviting. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a good meal at a decent price.

Levi Gain

This place is quite big and has a great feel and atmosphere I would recommend the ribs. I would absolutely come back. Server was great!

Cheryl Kealy

Nice atmosphere with great waiters and waitresses. Beautiful decorations and paintings. Food was great really recommend the crab cakes. Dessert was also amazing. We had sundaes and blackberry shortcake.Good cappuccino and black coffee.

Sarah Fackrell

I don't know where to begin. We were on vacation in DC for a week, and we ended up coming here for 3 separate nights. The food was amazing, but even more importantly the service was phenomenal. We sat by the oyster bar each night with Alex. We had our young son with us and Alex made sure to make him and us feel special. Thank you to Alex for making our family vacation memorable!

This quaint, historic fixture offers delicious food and accommodating service with a distinctive atmosphere. It took awhile to get a table, but our patience was rewarded. Once seated, it was easy to see why Old Ebbitt Grill has earned such popularity and how they stay so busy. Our experience was well worth the wait.

Michael Motzny

Established in 1856, this favorite of the DC area boast an oyster and seafood specialty. My party really enjoyed the crab cakes and the meatloaf was some of the best I've ever eaten. Fresh bread served before your meal. Full bar with many custom cocktails to choose from. The dessert menu has several different items. I would suggest the peanut butter pie I sampled from my sister plate. Decor is a scattered display of historical items common to a semi-outdoor (perhaps even frontier like), especially around the 3 different bar areas. It also includes a number of paintings of historical style. Weekday dinner wait was an hour. Staff says crowds don't die out till around 9:30. Come early for drinks and stay late for dinner. Full Mark's on this dining experience.

Jonathan Fowler

If you like oysters this is the place for you! They have an amazing happy hour. The restaurant staff is extremely hard working and provides a superb dining experience. Reservations are a must for larger groups. However, for a couple you can pop in and sit at the bar most times.

Chuck Gilbert

What a totally amazing experience at such a very cool place. It's the oldest something in DC and the food is the best. The chicken sandwich with the spices was the best meal of the four and I will get again when returning.

ellis473

One of the cheapest sandwiches on the menu and by far one of the best buffalo chicken sandwiches I've ever had. Service was prompt polite and everything I could have asked for. Will come back

Old Ebbitt Grill is a classic — with great food and atmosphere. This is a must experience to complete your Washington DC adventure. Plan your visit carefully, because it’s really popular in the evening especially. I’d recommend a reservation to make sure you can get in timely.

Jen Hamerlinck

Great burgers. They have extra toppings most burger places don't, like fresh jalapenos, caramelized onions, sauteed mushrooms....yummy! Prices are higher but the burgers are worth it.

Arash Haji

They ruined our experience before even going in. This has been by far my worst experience at a restaurant. My girlfriend and I walked in, the three hostesses, who were gossiping about god knows what, would not stop talking to each other. We had to wait for over a minute for one of them to look at us. And she immediately says “there’s a 40 minute wait” and right away she turns to continue the interesting discussion she was having with the rest of them. She wouldn’t even spare a second to see whether we wanted to wait or not. It left us baffled and angry, we then went to the Hamilton next to them and enjoyed a fantastic service during their happy hour.

Jean Westcott

Reliably good food in an world class location. We had the lobster cocktail, steak, and tomato salad. Be sure to save room for desert, all house made.

Samantha Willis

Great food I ate the lentil and quinoa burger it was fantastic. They also have a great line of desserts and dessert wines. The regular wine menu list is a great place to start as well. Staff is friendly and serving time is within normal range for a restaurant this big. They have plenty of dining space and about 4 full bars. They are on the busy side for dinner and I would recommend a reservation if sitting at a table is a must for you.

Mary Jo Ocke

Loose my mind, love it here. Great food, drinks and people

Mary Kubicek

So cool! A bar that's been there since the 1850s! Beautiful long bar, roomy booths. Delicious freshly made good. Excellent service! Our server, Candace was both personable and professional! Must go!

KarlHungus1680

DC history with outstanding service and food. Good draft beer and liquor selection in a place that feels like vintage DC in a tavern, from the power players after work to visitors to town soaking up the vibe. Bonus - the food is outstanding! Perfectly cooked and seasoned salmon for me and a ton to choose from on the menu.

Mark Brophy

Lovely place with nice staff. Booking is the best option. Eating at the bar is nice but if you want a table booking is the best option.

Dennis Hinkley

Great setting. 150 year old restaurant/bar. You can really feel the history in this place. The food, drinks and service are all wonderful.

Jeff Anderson

This restaurant was recommended by the staff of my hotel. It didn’t disappoint! The food was good, the place was clean, the beer was cold and in variety, and overall wonderful! My bartender Andrea was attentive, friendly, knew the menu, and offered suggestions for places to experience while in the area. Great place!

Mike from Colorado

Excellent food and service at Old Ebbitt Grill. Ordered Clams Casino - perfect! Also had fresh oysters and Spicy Sausage Garganelli, their house made pasta is fantastic. Our server, Alexis, was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. We will definitely be back and request to sit with her again. Highly recommend this old school cool DC restaurant.

Gina Beyer

Good food, reasonable kids menu. Bathroom needed cleaning. Super hard to get reservations after 430p. 45 minutes wait at 430p. Popular. Right near white house.

Vanessa Walter

First night on family vacation in Washington D.C. and we found this gem of a restaurant. Loved the food, the service, and especially Candace, who helped expand my palate. Will be back before heading home. Returned last Friday... busy but the wait was not long. Again loved the food, excellent crab cakes, oysters Rockefeller, calamari, and fries. Great service.

Dicken Doe

We had a great meal here. The oysters were fresh, and the menu pretty extensive. Very busy and a great atmosphere, it has the feeling of a gentlemans club, but for the location and the food it represents good value. Chatty staff, who made the whole experience fun too.

Key Martin

I had the meatloaf lunch special. I wanted to continue enjoying the flavor so I ate past feeling full and I didn't care. It was worth it. The service is friendly up to and including the Maitre d' but I will admit the wait for the food after we made our order was a teeny bit long. Prices are typical for DC as is parking...but there is a valet lot right around the corner so not so bad. It was $27 for more than 1 hour parking so be aware. I will still go back to Old Ebbitt just for the flavor.

ivana gobbo

Amazing place! We went this Labor Day weekend as walk-ins, so we had to wait 60 minutes to get a table. Definitely worth the wait. We sat at te bar, had some beers and those 60 minutes felt like 5. The atmosphere is great! Ideal to hangout with family and friends, have some drinks and enjoy delicious food. We felt really comfortable. The food and desserts are delicious! If you are going to Washington, you definitely need to visit Old Ebbitt Grill. Great locations and good prices.

Zachary Bohlman

Very friendly and attentive staff. Our server Bryan was fantastic. We enjoyed the calamari, a steak salad, and the ribs. All were excellent and we'd stop again if back in the area.

Fried Watermelon TV

I love their Rockefeller Oysters! Walked into this place over a year ago and have been craving them since. My bartender Bacari was super nice also. Gave great vibes and nice conversation. Will definitely visit again soon.

Michelle Payette

Beautiful building, rich hisrory and perfect service. Dinner anywhere from crab cake sandwiches to exquisite steaks. We both loved the shrimp and grits and scallops which were moderately priced. I was even called back for the better dinner time after they had a cancellation! Would definitely visit again when in DC.

SheSco Soaps

My steak was really good! Could have used a little salt and/or pepper but it was cooked well and very tender. The potato pave was pretty tasty, as were the green beans. Lemonade was watered down, catfish portion size was pretty small, and the server didn't stop back once during our meal.. overall we enjoyed our meal, and would totally return if back in the dc area.

Lang Nguyen

I actually loved this place! It was great to see oysters half off during happy hour and plus the service was great! Definitely recommend trying this place!

Lisa Joseph

Our go-to in DC, always packed but usually easy to get a spot at one of the bars. The bartenders are awesome, drinks fantastic and the menu has whatever you want for any mood

Donald Piombo

"Old school" 5 star service! Excellent menu and reasonable prices. Perfect espresso martini! Leon was a gem of a waiter...Thank You! Can't wait to go back again!

Nick Shertzer

The restaurant that has served politicians since the civil war and now the Shertzers. Half price oysters weekdays 3-6p and the service and scallops were amazing. Delicious!

Sean Callanan

It's a DC institution, a must visit for any out-of-owners who follow politics and the food is alright too. It's the quintessential DC restaurant, so if that's what you're looking for, there's no place like it. It looks like the smokey backroom where big deals are signed because... well... they have been at Old Ebbitt.
