Great place for dinner. The chefs are TOP NOTCH and know thier kitchen VERY WELL. Nouvelle is one of those restaurants that the local news papers like to keep up with because the cuisine is fantastic (French cuisine mostly). Awesome staff and a bar is stocked with your favorite adult beverages. Must try for French cuisine lovers. (Nourvelle owners also support local businesses by buying "freshly daily deliveried" seafood from George's Seafood).

The absolutely disastrous dinner experience. The only two things they offered to drink was tap water and ginger ale. They had NO bottled mineral water, no wine or alcohol of any kind, and no TEA ! How hard it is to make tea ?! They took reservations for 6 people celebrating birthday and failed to let us know the restaurant had no liquor license. Later we were informed they have “ no bread today”. The appetizer I ordered was not available. The seafood and vegetables ordered were drowned in soy soy and were not edible. We were told the ribeye was precooked to Medium and there were no other choice. They brought three entrees for men, and ladies entrees were served 10 minutes later. And so on... Needles to say, we shall never be back and I won’t advise to my enemy to eat there.

We drove all the way from Alaska to eat here. No seriously. And we were NOT disappointed. I had the 50/50 lamb and beef burger loaded with grilled onions, fresh tomatoes, lettuce, and bacon. The onions were grilled just right and tasted Linda's sweet, the burger was well cooked, but not dry. All meat was juicy and well seasoned. The burger was full of flavor, and complimented by home made fries and an cold canned coke. Everyone was in great spirits and made my wife, and two year old feel really at home. Wish there were more privately owned place like that still.

Great food. Nice atmosphere. The kitchen is open, so you can watch the chef do her work. (Yes, the chef is a woman, and she is co-owner with her fiance.) The fusion food has excellent flavors, and the menu is diverse enough to satisfy a former Swedish diplomat (my father-in-law) and a 5 yo girl (my daughter).

This is a wonderful place to eat. Service is awesome. The portion sizes are HUGE. I ordered a vegan dish with mashed potatoes on the side. I ate the entire thing. I've never had mashed potatoes and gravy where you can taste the smoked bacon but no meat was in it! ABSOLUTELY the best ones I've ever had. We will be going back very soon.

If you've never had French fusion, you are not alone. I think Nouvelle might be the only place I know that does it. What a gem for Norfolk to get! The wine, obviously, was fantastic. My husband got the steak frites et foie but the kitchen was happy to substitute vegetables for the fries. Conveniently I got the pommes de terre so he still got a few. I also had the squash truffle bisque and it was everything I wanted it to be. Very friendly staff and quirky atmosphere. Interesting patronage - no stereotyping the customers of this venue as it was a wide variety of people just searching out good food.

Uh. Total misfire. Will try again to edit review. Really promising appearance and reviews. However came in only one waiter she tried to turn me around at door. I said I wasn’t in a hurry sat down they were out of a bunch of stuff and she said the “owners were out of town”. Despite management issues, I’ll try again because the menu looks good. My new favorite place! Fun loving staff and amazing food. The chef, and owner, was so nice and amazingly talented. She designed the entire menu (of course), but the best part is that everything you order will be personally prepared and cooked by her. You must try the kinilaw (Filipino ceviche)! Every time we go to Norfolk from now on, we will be there.

Nouvelle recently relocated to the North Colley neighborhood (NoCo) joining Cogan's, LeGrand Diner, Starving Artists Cafe, Hank's Filling Station, and Chow in what has become a hot new restaurant area in west Norfolk. The food is even better than at their old location, and the restaurant was packed with locals enjoying a wide range of perfectly prepared plates, ranging from fried chicken and cheeseburgers to mussels, scallops, and salads. They have their alcohol license, with a nice selection of food-friendly wines and and a full bar. Food ranges from down-home to fine dining. Casual atmosphere. Wait to be seated at your own table, or sit at the bar, the chef's bar, or at a communal table. Our third visit since the new location has been open, and each meal has been better than the last!

It’s amazing what Chef / Owner Rina can produce from such a small kitchen. She’s a whirlwind. Along with her partner, Luke, they’ve built one of the best restaurants in the Norfolk area. Don’t be dissuaded by the small and unlikely location. I visited one Friday evening on a last minute whim and without a reservation had to wait for a seat at the bar which also serves as the chef’s table. I was greeted by Luke who found me a seat in which to enjoy a cocktail and appetizer as I waited for the bar. He’s a friendly, knowledgeable host clearly concerned with his guest’s wellbeing. The drink list is varied and upscale. The menu provides a larger than expected, seasonal variety of French inspired dishes prepared with locally sourced ingredients. I started with a seared scallop appetizer that definitely reminded me of spring. I’ve not had a better scallop. The entree was the typical bouillabaisse I was craving and a testament to Rina’s skill. Sitting at the chef’s table, I watched her add each ingredient to the pan at slightly different times in order to ensure each seafood component was perfectly cooked. It was an impressive achievement for a one-person kitchen. Rounding out the meal was a delicious butterscotch bread pudding. I’d highly recommend this little restaurant and will definitely be back the next time I’m in the area. Reservations are available on OpenTable. Note: they are moving to a new and larger location in the Spring of 2018 so be sure to verify the address before you visit.

This is my first time reviewing Nouvelle but have dined here a few times with friends. Each time, Joe was our server and we truly appreciated his honest opinions, recommendations and expert and friendly service! We all enjoyed everything we ordered from appetizers to desserts. It would be difficult to name a favorite menu item as everything was expertly prepared. The scallops were large and very fresh, the steak frites a very good choice, and the fried chicken breast with a bacon gravy, greens and mashed potatoes was probably my favorite. Another favorite enjoyed by everyone at the table, were the hand cut frites and they were so delicious our group polished off multiple orders of this treat. The Bolognese my husband ordered was delicious and a pleasant surprise for an Italian inspired meal in a French inspired restaurant. The owner, chef and entire staff made you feel welcome and we really hated to leave. Looking forward to returning soon!

Seeing the great reviews, we thought we need to try it. But the dinning experience was extremely awkward. The bar is playing music and the open kitchen is doing the same - but they play different songs - very disturbing. The neighboring table also complained, but no relief. And the uncoordinated and conflicting music is reflecting the identify of the restaurant: conflicting. The wine is of low quality and totally overpriced. The food is poorly prepared and overloaded with salt. The waiters are not well trained (for example, they didn't expect us to want to taste the wine before we said yes to the bottle and they asked us whether we want to keep the cutlery after we used it for the starter). I couldn't eat my main course and the waiter came and said they'd take it of the bill - but it was still on it. Our visit there was certainly the only one ever. There are so many better restaurants in Norfolk. Not sure where all the great reviews come from - fake and paid?

One of my favorite restaurants, period. The drinks are on point. I recommend the 50/50 burger (half lamb, half beef) or the pork chop that is covered in a peppery gravy. Don't miss the bread pudding for dessert, either! It's divine.

My husband and I had dinner here last night and it was AMAZING! This is our new go-to restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious and the service was impeccable. They went above and beyond to accommodate us even though they were booked solid with reservations and we walked in off the street (I think part of that was the luck in timing, but we were impressed none-the-less).

Everything about this place is fantastic! Right off the bat, plenty of parking. The restaurant had a great atmosphere and the staff is very friendly. A sizable list of drinks and wine, and a dining menu that has an option to suit almost anyone, but is by no means oversized. And everything is fresh and delicious (definitely don't pass on dessert, the bread pudding is out of this world.). Plus, a flawless playlist!

The hostess was our first encounter with her seating our party of six. She was probably 6 herself, but quite the hostess. She was prepping utensil sets, pouring waters, greeting and providing menus with confidence. The cook smiled across the counter, "Enjoy your meal," with a smile. The French onion soup was delicious! Service is exellent . Need to do a reservation and make sure is gonna be early than later. Our food was to a four * but that don't mean the other things in the menu are the same also our taste it is different from their menu. They need more vegetable dishes at least 4 more since they have the ingredients. Amazing people that work there always on point with everything. Went to Norfolk on a Saturday afternoon and decided to try something new. Found this quaint little restaurant and immediately was enthralled by the atmosphere. They cook your meal right in front of you; which I love. The people are amazing. And the menu has something for everyone. Will definitely be making a trip back in the near future.

If you are hungry do not come here, I get it a French Restaurant (the French eat small portions) but when you have a French restaurant and is decorated with the State of Texas, you should serve larger portions of food. The plates are large but the portions are for a child. Sat for over 45 minutes only to get our main course first then our starters. The onion soup was not cook all the way through where the wine was super strong. The scallop shrimp plate was $27 with 2 scallops and 3 shrimp. My wife's lamb pasta was heavy on the cinnamon, the pork belly starter was great but the pork was as thin as thin bacon and no larger than a strawberry, I say this cause it had strawberries on it. The Philipino style ceviche was delicious. Over all it was not the best first time experience, but the owner did give us a free dessert and took off the French onion soup and a glass of wine from the bill. I probably will not come by again, this may have been an off night but no thanks.

Happened upon this little place during the Arts District "Fringe" Festival. Since they were packed we came back the next day for lunch. Imaginative dishes and lunch prices are reasonable! Thought the dinner prices were a bit high since it's a little diner without much room. The beer selection is all local, not a huge fan since we prefer lighter choices and the lightest beer they had was kind of bitter. Probably best to try it for yourself and see!

No lie, this place just provided the best service I've ever had at a restaurant. We sat at their family table, which is a bar that opens to the kitchen. The server was attentive. Both the chef, Rina, and the sous chef, Beau, checked on us throughout the meal to make sure we enjoyed our food and shared some light conversation. The food was phenomenal but I can't get over how their staff, during a busy dinner rush, cared enough to ask about our enjoyment. A1 chef, team and food. You got a customer for life tonight.
