First thing i want to mention is to not be discouraged by the restaurant's outer appearance. I am thoroughly satisfied with the food. The bulgogi was so tender it was almost melting in my mouth. The stir fry was very flavorful and the spice was perfect. The beef and pork dumplings were deep fried to perfection too. Shumai was a let down, but everything we ate outweighed my feelings towards it.First time having Korean food and i will forever come back as long as i live in Virginia. Compliments to the chef(s) that created the masterpieces that me and my wife ate.

I found it just by riding down Jefferson Ave and I love Korean food, the resturant was clean, food was very good and the service was good. I was impressed with quality, variety and quantity of food for the price. I would recommend Mona's to anyone who wants good Korean Food.

I love Korean food and have been looking for a Korean restaurant that rivals one near and dear to my heart in Michigan, and Mona actually surpassed this past favorite in terms of price, amount of food, and food quality/taste. My boyfriend and I got the special for two and we had a feast for 36$ (special occasion). We had fried fish, pork bulgogi, rice, bean paste soup, egg soufflée and at least 15 banchan (side dishes). Everything was so flavorful and we were stuffed by the end. Our waitress was so lovely and attentive, and again for the price, we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly!

Kalbi & Bulgogi perfectly marinated. Fresh crisp lettuce wraps. Steaming pot of savory mandoo soup. Glad we opted to grill the meats right on the table. Pure Awesomeness! Service was top notch - our server was very attentive. Highly recommend giving Mona Korean Grill a try. Will definitely be coming back to sample the many other selections on the menu.

We went last Saturday and had Han as our waitress. I didn’t know what I wanted and was confused. She ended up bringing me what I wanted and it was amazing. My husband was stationed in Korea and says he likes the food as well beings that it’s extremely authentic! We had the chicken bbq. We went back today 6-29-19 sat ) we had Han once more and she remembered what I liked. She brought the salad with the ginger dressing also. She’s amazing. Then when she came to fill my water she also filled my tea with the pitcher I had on the table. That isn’t a normal thing around here, the waitress/waiter doesn’t go the extra mile. When it came to leaving and packing the food, she also did that and also put it in the bag and tired the bag. It was amazing it means more then nice words. She takes care of her customers extremely well! I love this place and will continue to go. I suggest it to anyone who likes Korean food!!

This past Friday was my second time dining at Mona's Korean Japanese Restaurant with friends. I thought that overall the experience would be very nice. It was not. It became obvious that our waiter did not care to serve us. My friend even said our waiter was not good and when she asked for seconds on a couple of the small serving size side dishes, she seemed not to want to bring them to her and it took an unusual amount of time for her to bring the two dishes. We agreed she was being quite rude. Also not once did our waiter come to bring me a refill on my iced tea. My friend's daughter was even sent to go and ask for a refill--otherwise it was clear there were not going to be any refills. Towards the end of our meal, our waiter brought the check. We were not asked how we were paying (nor how we were doing). She brought the check to me or at least on my side of the table assuming I was paying the entire bill. I picked up the check; paid the bill and even tipped the waiter as I always do, although in this incident she really didn't deserve it. I was hesitant at first to go online and write this review, but after reflecting again on the overall experience compared to other places I've dined and the excellent service I receive when dining out at various restaurants, I had to write this review because it's been absolutely the worst and only bad dining experience I can remember ever being a part of. As a result, I plan not to give this place any more of my money and time. The food was good, not great and definitely not worth sub-standard service.

Unfortunately not as good as expected. We have had better Korean food and since we have Korean family we have an idea about Korean cuisine. Kimchee was watery and not a bit spicy. Quality of meat could be improved as well as the yaki mandu, which were not at all, what we expected. Didn't have our drinks before the appetizer and only after reminding the waiter/ waitress. Sorry, but we would have hoped to have a better experience.

This has quickly become our Go-To restaurant for Korean food. Everything is delicious and the service is always excellent. The staff is very friendly. Order the Fried Mandu app and the Beef Bulgogi; it’s the best around

Gal bee w/ fried rice $12. Bulgogi, steamed rice w/ mandu $12. Two gim bab rolls $3 ea. Should've been roughly $30 no? Billed for $74! It was take out. I was starving and in a hurry. The rolls are good but the bulgogi was under seasoned and no bulgogi sauce! So plain and boring. Definitely not worth the wallet rape. I call the place up and ask about the overcharge and I'm told that the prices advertised on the site linked to this restaurant hasn't been updated in over a decade. This place is way overpriced. You've been warned.

It's probably fine if you're an omnivore, but they aren't very accommodating of dietary preferences. The pajeon says it's a "kimchi pancake," but doesn't mention that it includes beef as well. They are able to accommodate large parties, though, as they have plenty of large tables. If you're looking to have a KBBQ experience was a crowd, this would be a good place to go.

My first experience with Korean BBQ and it was amazing! My friend and i weren't really sure how we were supposed to do everything but the waitress was very helpful and kind. Best customer service I've ever been given in Newport News and the food was delicious for a decent price. It was a little expensive but once we saw all of the food we got it made sense. Will absolutely be going back.

This place is a gem. It's in a non descript building in a run down part of town, but they've been there for years. Why don't they move you ask? Because their food is so awesome it doesn't matter. It's very rare in the restaurant industry that the food is good enough to overcome a questionable location.
