I think it's amazing that I can visit a restaurant as perpetually busy as Mike's over a 20 year period and remain as satisfied as I am by their fresh warm bread with honey butter and yummy casual menu. Gotta love it. And the place remains clean, All American with great customer service.

First ... you're greeted and feel welcomed upon entering. Once seated, our server Boris was phenomenal... friendly, hospitable, descriptive, and overly accommodating. Bacon cheeseburger was great with a big fluffy tender bun. Roasted brussel sprouts were out of this world. Husband was delighted with his babyback ribs. Daughter found the grilled salmon delicious. And ... it was my birthday ... chocolate waffle with chocolate sauce and ice cream ... yum! Highly recommend you try Mike's American Grill.

When I am in town I always go to Mike's. The service is always outstanding. They serve these amazing little pieces of bread. I have gone to Mike's about 6 times and I have always ordered the Salmon salad. I will eat Salmon but it is not normally my first choice. However at Mike's it is my only choice. The Salmon is the best I have ever had. Before I go I always think this isn't going to be as good as I remembered but it is every time.

Wow! I don't use platitudes that often, but this was truly the best salad I have ever eaten. The Mediterranean salad with the chicken slightly fried and the spice pecans was simply amazing. Not to mention the fried rolls that come to the table before dinner. I would come back for those alone. Definitely a must stop restaurant if you are ever in the DC area. Hope I get to come back again sometime. Thanks Mikes!

I went to Mike's Wednesday night with my date. I ordered the crab cake with steak and mashed potatoes... I asked for my steak to be medium well. My plate came out I took 2 bites of my crab cake then cut my steak and noticed it was very well done. I waived my server over to show him and he agreed that it was well. I attempted to give him my plate but he only wanted to take the steak back... I know that steak takes a nice while to cook & really wasn't happy about not being able to

Mike's is consistently delicious, which you can't say about many places. Their appetizers, especially the firecracker shrimp are really good. Love their brown butter sauce, and every single salad. Even the chicken fingers are good. The tequila penne or roasted chicken or salmon are delicious and you have to finish with one of their desserts!

I had the jambalaya pasta. It was okay, but they overdid it on the use of red pepper. This coming from someone who like spicy food. Also, salt and pepper on the table is a red flag that says the food is not adequately seasoned coming out of the kitchen.

Always super fresh and delicious with impeccable service. Mike's is a great place for a casual business meal or family dinner. On my most recent visit, there was an issue with my meal. The wait staff immediately dealt with the issue, had the kitchen fire a fresh dish, kept me updated, and delivered a masterpiece a short while later. This is exactly how you run a successful restaurant. Nobody is perfect, but Mike's handles issues like a team of seasoned pros.

5/15/19 Update: I have returned several times. I tried the ribs again AND again. Ribs delicious! Service great! The crab cakes were great (and I'm picky about crab cakes!) Steak great. Go and you will leave happy. 5 stars! Firecracker shrimp was excellent! A wonderful blend of flavor. Mango martini hit the spot! Salad with salmon and goat cheese equally delicious and flavorful. The ribs though tender were bland. My friend who had had them before said they were not usually like that. They offered replacement but I was stuffed at that point and still pleased with my overall experience from the food and staff. I look forward to going back again.

First time I have been to one of the Great American Restaurant chains in awhile. I had been boycotting since I discovered they gave the most PAC money, around $50k, to defeat the meals tax in Fairfax, VA. The meals tax was supposed to help support our schools. Nevertheless, we had to new colleagues begin their new jobs today so we ended up taking them to Mike's. I would say the food was typical of any of their other restaurants - good, but a bit over priced. I had the Warm Goat Cheese and Spiced Pecan salad. It was pretty good. We had a party of 10 and they did a pretty good job with service during the prime of lunch. The way they handled the bill for a large group was odd, but in the end it was correct.

The food was absolutely delicious. My husband couldnt stop talking about how buttery and "gourmet" his pulled pork sandwich was. I enjoyed my field greens salad and oysters as well but the apple pecan pie is what will have me coming back and breaking my diet. The staff was also very courteous, professional and helpful. Items came out quickly despite it being lunchtime and empty plates were whisked away magically. The atmosphere was also very welcoming and delightful. We will definitely be returning.

I am personally not a fan of the place as they don't seem to cook beef all that great. With that said, the people who live around here love it and it is always packed. So if this is your thing then have at it. I only go when my wife begs me to, but she only eats fish. I eat beef and I am not fired up the way they cook and serve beef.

Had a phenomenal experience. We reserved our table online for 7 people on a Saturday night about an hour before we arrived and basically walked right in and sat down. Our waitress was awesome anna and our food was great (as always). The bread is so amazing and the steak salad I had is probably one of the best I've ever eaten. The people with me were all raving about their food as well. My only gripe with this place is still the limited parking, but there's not much they can do about that and you can always park across the street like we usually do.

The food here is always excellent. The biggest challenge for this restaurant is parking! Make sure to get there early or else you're parking across the street and have to cross a busy road without a convenient walkway or crosswalk.

We are really bad customers because we quit coming years ago when the wait for a table became too long. On a whim we decided to eat out so I looked up their phone to see if we could add our name to the wait list, and saw that MAG now has reservations. The cheerful clerk had our table waiting at 530 pm as we requested. The waitress was very helpful and faster than we imagined. The burgers were great (mine was so juicy that I needed to wash hands). Everything was speedily served. We will be back. I did not get to try the corn salsa that was listed as part of the grilled chop as a side order to the hickory burger, so that will be one of the next dishes to try. JAH

This was our first time to Mike's but we have been to a Great American Restaurant before and they have fantastic bread. They have these little buns that taste like non sweet doughnuts. Our meals were fantastic. Order the roasted chicken which had this wonderful smoky taste and the burger which was huge. We waited 2 minutes for a table on a busy night because we made reservations (just 15 minutes beforehand). We will be going back.

Great spot for a quick, but good lunch! Everything was fresh, cooked perfectly and plated well. What more do you want? Give the filet mignon tip pasta with lime tequila cream sauce a try. Warning: You May need a nap, but it so worth it!

Another great meal at Mike's. We dined in the bar area this time to watch sports. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Food was good...drinks were great...I tried a couple signature cocktails and my husband tried local brews. I ordered the pecan crusted trout, which was pretty good. I still think the steak I ordered on a previous visit was better, but the trout was pretty decent. We would always come back and recommend Mike's to others looking for a good meal, great people and great atmosphere. Thanks!

The king salmon, which was the fish of the day, was not fresh and not cooked to my desire and was tasteless. The only good aspect of the meal was the Saratoga sparkling water and the waiter Mike was really friendly.

I have not been here in quite sometime. I stopped coming because I felt rushed and the prices keep climbing. Just something not "right".....at least for me. So I stopped by again recently after finishing up a class to get a beer. The beer was good and service was efficient, but no spare words were spared for me. The conversation was exclusively reserved for one guy at the bar who was talking basketball. It must have worked, because they brought him additional plates of food that they said were mistakenly made. This was on top of the meal he had just finished. Oh well, I guess he is a regular and should get the benefits of such. But some simple bartender to patron conversation would have been nice. The beer was good. It is close, so I will probably go back sometime, but just not real soon.

Amazing! This place NEVER disappoints. I recently called the same day for a reservation for two to include an out of town guest that is both vegan and gluten free. I was greeted with a very pleasant, "welcome back!" once I provided my phone number. The waitress was super knowledgeable and helpful, the menu included a whole section that my guest could easily/readily choose from, the food came quickly and it was super delicious. VERY PLEASED. I always look for an opportunity to return. THANK YOU!

It might be the rough day I had, but this was a great place to spend some time. The building is really cool. Just very open. All the brick and wood keep the theme. The service is also very good. We sat at the bar, and the bartenders were all friendly and quick. Didn't have any food, but it looked good. An OK beer selection.

Attractive inviting venue. Menu has a wide selection. Tongue in cheek note is offered on cooking steak which recommends: If you want your steak well-done...ORDER CHICKEN. After several staff members appeared at the table, Manuel came to take orders and coordinate the service. His energy was infectious. Food was flavorful and prepared as requested. Beverages were refreshed as needed without prompting.

Poor experience of the service that I have become accustomed to receiving at Mike's Great American Restaurants. Mid week late luncheon with the wife, the salad which was custom ordered to be Gluten Free was delivered to the table with breaded fried chicken on top, while my Reserve Rib-Eye steak cooled at the table. Salad was returned to the kitchen, and reappeared so quickly, I am sure that all that was done was to sweep the fried chicken from the top, and replaced with grilled chicken. Manager that accompanied the waiter on redelivery offered a brief-sincere apology, but, looked like she recognized that our meal was a defect. Explanations offered by the waiter deflected blame on the system, the kitchen, etc. No offer of a comp, future discount, remove the dish from the bill, etc. For $90, this was a train wreck of a meal. The steak was prepared perfectly, but, was obscured by the wait to fix the salad. I orgered a virgin lime margarita as a drink, that was not delivered until after the meal was served. It was a mohito. We had to request straws three times. Mike's Great American restaurants is well known for great service. I am a regular diner at the other restaurants further north. I believe that this was an error, but, without an offer to fix the bad, it is in my book, and this review, as a fail.

This was a pleasant surprise to go here. From the outside it looks like a standard chain restaurant but inside from the friendly and quietly efficient staff to the great food it was pleasure to eat here. I wouldn't hesitate to go here again if I was in Springfield again.

I have been coming to Mike’s for more than 15 years and it has always been great. My most recent visit wasn’t as warm and fuzzy. It seems as though the service and the food has taken a step back. I ordered the baby back ribs as usual. The taste: very dry, The sauce: bitter The tea that I ordered was decent but when I finished my first cup my waiter asked if I wanted another cup of hot water? Is this the usual? That it would not include a new tea bag? What am I going to do with WEAK tea. And why is this restaurant extremely cold? So much so that you really do need a jacket. My whole family was uncomfortable the entire time. I truly hope that Mike’s is reading this feedback so that changes can be made.

In my opinion, this is the only restaurant in Springfield which delivers consistently good food. Their grilled smoked salmon is outstanding. Their baby-back ribs are great. Their half chicken is truly spot-on. I live in Europe, therefore I am pretty spoiled when it comes to good food, however, I’ve always enjoyed coming to Mike’s for excellent quality, consistency, and great service. Beware of their portion sizes, they are fairly large.

Very busy location. Parking is a nightmare! Service was pretty good and the food was great! Suggest making a reservation online. It seems that it helped to move to the front of those who walked in. Bar was very busy. Don't think this is going to make it quicker, we waited longer to get a server in the bar than we did in the dining area. This is still one of my favorite places to go

We googled “vegetarian friendly restaurants” and this came up as #2 in the area. I will admit, I did not look at the menu before hand but when it said vegetarian restaurant I figured I’d be okay... we sit down and there is ONE vegetarian option, pasta and vegetables. We asked the waitress about an alternate menu since it was advertised online that it was vegetarian friendly WITH vegan options. I mean, it was vegetarian friendly in the sense that they were friendly to me as a vegetarian/human but the menu did not offer appropriate options to label themselves as a restaurant with vegan/vegetarian options. The best they could do was if I wanted a salad was they would serve it without meat... when we asked to speak to a manager, just to notify them that this was online and probably should be changed because it’s basically a steakhouse, the manager just said she wouldn’t comp our meal because it wasn’t their fault. We did not ask for any meal comps, just wanted them to be aware so more people don’t come expecting vegetarian and vegan options. Disappointed in not only the food options but in how it was advertised and handled.

I was concerned when we first pulled in and saw a jammed parking lot at 2:30pm on a Saturday. I assumed we'd have a wait. The restaurant is so big and so we'll managed and staffed that we were seated immediately and our food came out in under 30 minutes. Staff all helped to clear our table or get refills very often. The building is enormous and allowed for a large dining crowd. I saw 2 kitchens as I was walked upstairs to be seated. It definitely makes a difference. All staff were very polite and helpful. We took definitely be back to eat here again.

Bread was good as well as the crab cakes and the bread pudding. Unfortunately, the elevator was not working the last time I went. Apparently they have a second elevator. Also, the water in the men's bathroom was scalding hot and since its automatic, you cant adjust the temperature. Some folks in the bathroom didn't bother to use the soap.

Ordered three kid's chicken strip meals... None of the kids liked them because they were loaded with black pepper and way too spicy for young children. The kids ate the fries and I packed the chicken strips to go. Once home I removed the crispy batter coating in the hope of saving the seemingly large chicken strips. To my surprise the strips were only about 30% meat... The rest was batter. Mike's is one of our family favorites got adults but the kids chicken strips are a disappointment.

I usually don't comment unless I'm a repeat visitor, so this was my first and only visit as an "out of towner". Clearly a popular place, awesome decor of a classic building. Service a little overwhelmed and slow, but friendly: food was excellent; slightly pricey but that's to be expected in this area. Solid recommendation. Would certainly go again.

When we first arrived we walked upstairs to get seated and was told our table wasnt ready waited about 10 minutes while all the other families got seated immediately. Waitress never came back to refill any drinks either. Wont return because service was subpar for the price was paid.

I have always loved eating at this restaurant. But this time took me beyond love into a place of culinary bliss. I ordered my meal to go - blackened salmon and mashed potatoes. I have eaten at many a fine restaurant, but this is first time I was offered a choice in how my blackened salmon was cooked. So playing it conservatively, I requested medium well. My meal came out pretty quickly. I even asked for extra rolls (I enjoy their bread) and received it. When I got home and took a bite of my meal, it was delectable. The salmon was cooked to perfection. I now know I must ask for it this way at every restaurant. I just hope each salmon serving will be as scrumptious as this one was. The ambiance is wonderful. Just know that if you choose to go on the weekend, you may have quite the wait. Making an appointment might be the best buffer. But however you go, be prepared for a stuffed stomach and a satiated smile across your face. I wanted to photograph this meal, but I was too busy eating it down to stop for a photo Op. Just know it looked great and tasted sublime.

Good food. But, it's the same as all the other Great American places - the menus never change, and theyre mostly the same from location to location. The service and consistently good food are a huge positive though. I'd like to give then 4.5 stars, but since that's not an option, I'll round up to 5.

I've never had a bad dish here, not once. I love their calamari, shrimp appetizer, lobster soup, salmon, the steak is delicious. I eat here frequently and occasionally a meal might be off a little-steak maybe a little fatty, but nothing big. The bartenders and waitstaff are great, very friendly and helpful. They really seem to help each other out. I will say I had one meal, a crab cake that was delicious as usual with a side of applesauce serve in a store bought plastic container-at least put it in a bowl. Give me the illusion it didn't come from Costco lol! Other than that top notch and I'm looking forward to my next meal there!

Hostess was sweet, I went to the bar to get my drink and they saw me there and didn't acknowledge me nor let me know they would be with me in a sec. We absolutely LOVED this place. It was awesome to be able to make a reservation online for a specific time! Unlike other places where you just get moved to the top of the list. The food was GREAT. The fillet mignon melted right in my mouth (medium). The prime rib was excellent. Not to mention the place was beautiful. The service was great also. *Only complaint is the parking. The lot is so tight, people don't know how to drive, I would recommend taking them up on the additional parking at the shopping center and walk across the street. Took us 20 minutes to get out of the parking lot because people are stupid and the lot was too tight.

Well prepared, tasty food. We started with the egg rolls and the artichoke, spinach dip. A good selection of starters. Enough to share and to pass the time away. The restaurant stays busy, so expect a bit of a wait between courses. The pecan crusted trout was a treat. Everyone in my group raved about their selection - grilled smoked salmon and the roasted chicken. Our waiter was attentive and kept our beverages topped up. Mike's never disappoints. Always a great dining experience. Walk-in diners are usually accommodated depending on the time of the day, but reservation is reccommended.

In my opinion, this is the only restaurant in Springfield which delivers consistently good food. Their grilled smoked salmon is outstanding. Their baby-back ribs are great. Their half chicken is truly spot-on. I live in Europe, therefore I am pretty spoiled when it comes to good food, however, I’ve always enjoyed coming to Mike’s for excellent quality, consistency, and great service. Beware of their portion sizes, they are fairly large.

A long time favorite in the area. This is a great location for a sit down meal, a special occasion, or just an indulgence. There is usually a wait, and tables are rarely empty for long, so try the call ahead seating. The menu as a whole does not disappoint, but their prime rib is the best I can find in the area. Well worth the cost and time.

Best Steak and Salad Around We made reservations online through Google Maps for 5:30 and am glad we did. Parking was already a challenge even as early as we eat, but on our second loop we found a spot. We were greeted with a smile and seated immediately. Our waiter came quickly for our drink orders and to present today's specials. We didn't wait long before our calamari appetizer arrived, and I was impressed by its enderness and the crispness of the breading. And the sauce was excellent. The salads were above expectations. The pine nuts and dried cranberries accentuated the sweet dressing. I had the hanger steak while my wife had the filet, both medium rare. Both cuts of meat were tender and flavorful, and cooked to perfection. I enjoyed the bold flavor of the hanger, and its unique texture. I could cut it with my fork. The restaurant is always busy and was a little loud for my comfort, but the food made it worth it. We sat on the first floor today and it seemed noisier than when we were seated on the second floor on our last visit. I reccomend dining early, making reservations and asking to be seated on the second floor if you want a quiet, romantic meal. If you're bringing kids or have a boisterous group, please stay on the main floor.

The food was great, as it usually is; however, we noticed very slow service and few checks on us for refills, etc., which was disappointing. Our friends from out of town took notice of the slow service as well; additionally, our friend did not get the meal he ordered, and despite claiming they would take the meal off the bill, our friends had to remind them. We are hopeful our next visit is better -- and cooler as it was very warm in the restaurant as well. All of these distractions regrettably influenced our experience and the good food.

Great food. I had the crab cake and 7oz Filet Mignon with a side of mushrooms and garlic mash potatoes. The crab cake and potatoes were delicious. My filet was cooked a little more than what I prefer, but was corrected immediately. Unfortunately, by the time I received the new filet, I was too full to eat it. I did taste a small piece and it was delicious. Next time, I won't drink as many Arnold Palmers so I can actually eat my meal. I will definitely return and would definitely recommend this place.

Always good! Yes there is a wait (on any given day) if you don't call ahead and make reservations. But it is well worth the wait!!!! This kitchen knows how to cook a steak tou hear me. Mike's American measures up to the high standards set by other Great American Restaurants in the Northern Virginia Area. The wait staff are welcoming and helpful. Everything I've ever ordered at Mike's has been high quality and worth getting again. The brick and wood interior has a nice homey tavern feel to it. The only minor negatives are that parking can be difficult during peak hours and the bathrooms are all the way on the bottom floor. This is a great spot for any occasion. Be sure to make a reservation.
