Brad Robbins

Pimento cheese fritters are amazing. Food is incredible. Cocktails good. Prepare your wallet and your tongue for the experience.

Joaquin Bueno

Excellent food, ingredients, preparation and service. Inventive yet reverential Southern Cuisine for the 21st century, a welcome eatery on the downtown Charlottesville scene.

Anne Kibler

Hubby and I had dinner here and it was absolutely fantastic. It's a bit pricey but I would consider it like Southern comfort food but high end plate and swanky environment. the pimento cheeseballs appetizer was great. I really enjoyed my meal. but I do think it was a little bit pricey for what you get the crabcakes that I got were very small and didn't really feel me up but the Brussels sprouts I got were absolutely amazing and I would highly recommend them sweet potato fries are pretty good but I would say that they're off the charts amazing just average.overall decent meal!

Melanie Billmyer

The steak was amazing, nice atmosphere! 4 thumbs up!

Terry J Doherty

Great atmosphere and food to match.

Molly Wilshere

One of THE BEST places in town. The food is right up there with a meal at four times the price! Love the atmosphere and the wait staff has never been anything but exceptional. Do recommend getting a reservation as they can be swamped, particularly on a weekend.

Shane Glass

Outstanding food with great drinks, service, and location in town.

Charlie Murchie

This place is consistently amazing and always worth the money spent

Don Buskard

Cool vibe, good food.

Sean Hughes

Excellent food great prices.

Joe Murray

Refined presentation of classic Southern food - well prepared and tasty. Be sure to try their very unusual (and delicious) desserts (some with jalapeño or basil sorbets on the side!). Good service, but my bottled beer was warm. We chose to eat on the outside patio (which was way too dark after the sun set), so I can't comment on the inside experience. Recommended.

Went here on Thanksgiving while visiting in town. We had high hopes since some of the reviews looked good. The first thing I saw upon coming in was a bowl of soup being returned for temperature and the cook dipped his finger in the pot to test the rest of the batch. Yikes.. They microwaved the returned dish though, so all good. Our series was just mediocre, though we were there toward the end of what was a busy shift so I can't fault them too much for that. The wine list leaves a lot to be desired and no beers on tap. We finally ordered our food and some different things, the beef my wife ordered was bone dry with gravy we could have mistook for the stuff from the jar. My salmon was nicely prepared and quite good, though my Greenspan grits were very under seasoned. Overall it wasn't a great experience, we'd have eaten elsewhere but most places were closed on the holiday. This may be a good place if you're a local, but definitely trying something more unique if you're in town on vacation.

Elisa Ferrante

Maya has great food classics with a flaire and cool, interesting cocktails. Their Down Home Peanut Butter is my most favorite ever.

Terry Hoyle

Too expensive and high brow for my taste with ok food.

Dan Frosaker

Have the cheese fritters and some ham gravy. The catfish is always a winner. Get it with a side of ham gravy. If you are feeling ambitious, go for brunch on Sunday and get the cheddar cheese biscuit waffle, fried chicken and ham gravy. Don't worry about dinner that night, you will be good.

Christopher Chaconas

Maya always delivers southern food done right!

Taylor Schmidt

A superb restaurant in Charlottesville. They specialize in fancy down home southern cooking and delicious cocktails. The fried pimento cheese is unbelievably good.

Dave Brand

Half bar half upscale restaurant. Nice outdoor space.

David Goodman

Good food and good service!

Leah Morrison

Maya is incredible! Southern cuisine as tasty as grandma makes it, but in a semi-fine dining atmosphere. The food is delicious, great service, reasonably priced. Really a must-try in Charlottesville.

Food was delicious. Husband had cornbread, chicken, mashed potatoes and collard greens. I had crab cakes, grits and mac and cheese. All very good. Service was great. Very nice experience.

A V

Possibly one of the most down to earth and welcoming restaurants you could ever visit.

Helena Slater

Great southern food in a beautiful location

Don Rodgers

Phenomenal food!

Jonathan Harar

Great place! I remember being blown away by the greens. So much stuff going on with spices and flavors. All entrees are great, greens as a side are the must try in my opinion.

Joseph Maniaci

Best restaurant in CVille, hands down. We are semi-regulars, food is always exceptional, service is friendly but never overbearing, cannot recommend enough.

Harry Jackson

Ambiance, service, food were all top notch with few glitches. Reminds me of a gastro pub in Greenwich Village with better food and signature cocktails that rock! Great for late night food and drinks. There were vegetarian options and dessert to die for. Definitely worth a visit or two!

Grayson Katzenbach

Overall great food, location, and vibe. Soup was absolutely fantastic but the oysters we're a bit watery. Nice bar area.

Jordan Curry

Food and service was amazing! The ribs are to die for!

Rashaude

Came here one evening for drinks with friends and experienced the worse customer service in my life. The bartender (older looking white woman) was very rude and disrespectful. She refused to serve me a second drink because I didn't tip after the first. She then asked if I could afford another drink,

Kyle Johnson

Really good southern food. Great cocktails

Danielle H

Great food! There menu is mostly southern comfort food.

Janet Miller

Good food and a pleasant atmosphere. Not too pricey and lots of tasty side options. a little noisy with many large groups upstairs but okay.

Karrah Kramer

The family went to Easter Brunch, it was exceptional! Food, service and ambiance.

Mary Baldwin

Friendly, fun and delish

Emily Stacy

Every time I have gone to Maya it has been outstanding! From my brother's wedding rehearsal a few years back, to casual dinner with friends, and recently planned a dinner for out of town visitors (for work), the service is exceptional.

Adele Roof

Great service. Food was average that night on the Tuesday special menu. My friend's steak was very tough, and she hardly ate any of it.

Sean Campbell

Been to Maya three times now, and it's been fantastic every time. Interesting and super flavorful menu, with tasty cocktails.

Jennifer Myers

Lovely restaurant and great food! We went on Tuesday with the $12 dinner special and it was so much food!

Quinn V

I really enjoyed my time here tonight. It was definitely pricey for the food - however the atmosphere justified the prices. Drinks were super reasonable. I got an Expresso Martini and it was delicious. I also had the crab cakes with broccoli and sweet potato fries. Everything was perfectly seasoned. No reason to have a salt or pepper shakers on my table. I tried my friend's ribs, melt in your mouth. Another friend devoured his hanger steak. Great night out.

Rama Mock

Wonderful service from friendly staff. Southern dishes with a style all their own. Ran out of the special; otherwise this would be a 5 star review.

Bailey Mabe

Very good southern food. Great menu, only complaint is that it was super loud where we sat. We could barely talk to each other for the first half of dinner. Best chicken I have ever had

Laura Harrison

Loved Maya. The food was delicious and the service was spectacular. I can't wait to visit again.

Had a charming visit and dinner with my son off the UVA campus. Fabulous menu of entrees, very creative combinations of food with something for everyone. Tents outside nicely light and recommend make reservations ahead of time. Very charming restaurant.

Two Moons Consulting

Great Southern cooking, awesome happy hour and late night bar scene. Popular with locals, but also great for a nice evening out or an event.

Stuart Taylor

Excellent food taste, and portions. Service was excellent even pre football game. Pricing was reasonable in relation to quality. Already recommending to friends.

Dangelo Robinson

Great restaurant and they carry the Norton wine from 53rd, formerly Cooper Vineyards.

Nicole Fratrik

Super understanding, patient, and helpful staff even when my grandmother got sick. Also wonderful food. Thanks for making the night the best it could be.

Alfreda James

love the catfish with side order of broccoli and a biscuit

Tyler Ferro

Had a good time here. Not quite what I expected, a bit cramped, and over priced but otherwise good

Aseba Green

My favorite restaurant to go to when I'm at cville

Larisa Antsukevich

Long wait ok food

Gilbert Orejudos

The jambalaya appetizer in honor of Fat Tuesday was really good. As was the steak.

Mallorie Branch

This quaint southern eatery on the historic west main was exceptional. The decor of fresh wild flowers was a perfect touch. The outdoor patio is preferred if weather permits. Upscale traditional southern staples mixed with modern kitchen inventiveness. Classic and delicious. My only qualms of the place is the price, if thats not a factor for you , i'm sure you'll love it.

William Moore

To preface, we went out to this restaurant, and had a quite good time. The food was excellent (which was a much needed treat, as we had been working quite hard throughout the weekend), and for some, the staff was responsive, notably with the room's busboy. However, the waitress for our table, was rather unresponsive for the majority of the meal. While available at the beginning, she failed to make regular reappearances, and when one of her co-workers served our table because she failed to, she came over and effectively made us 'reorder' to make her happy. However, finally, when we were leaving, having left her not a particularly large tip, she followed us to the street, in a most improper manner. As such, it rather negatively impacted the experience. If this happen, be sure to assert that you are the customer, who has paid for a service!

Laura Harrison

Loved Maya. The food was delicious and the service was spectacular. I can't wait to visit again.

Pelayo Melgarejo

Good cocktails and steak

Stephen Gastright

Nice atmosphere. My dish was just ok.

Laura Thoreson

Unfortunately, the plates were hotter than the food. All of the sides were cold (although delicious), the pork was overcooked and the medium-rare steak was very rare. The flavors were great. Hoping it was just an off night.

Joy Taylor

Fantastic food, lackadaisical service. We had the trout and chicken entrees with sides, which were both incredible. For a night that wasn’t busy, you’d think the service would be up to par. Not attentive, food took 40 minutes, dessert took 20 minutes. We are fairly easy going and 3 stars is generous.

Myrna Bein

My husband, visiting nephew, and I tried this restaurant tonight as a first time experience. We were so pleased and impressed with every aspect of it. Parking was easy, right across the street, drinks were excellent, appetizers and entrees generous and tasted fabulous. We had pimento cheese fritters and fried green tomatoes for appetizers. My nephew ordered a second serving of the fried green tomatoes to take home. Entrees were pork ribs, pork tenderloin, and chicken fried chicken. Flavor accents were just that, and did not overpower the flavor of the main ingredients in any of the entrees. Service was attentive, but not intrusive. Noise level allowed for easy conversation and listening. Maya is a real winner and we will DEFINITELY be back again to sample more of their fresh and varied fare.

Nicholas Geraci

A very scrumptious introduction for anyone to Southern cuisine. The portions are quite ample and recipes put a noticeable zing into what would otherwise be fairly bland dishes. The pimento balls were an awesome appetizer (probably could have downed another 2 or 3 plates worth)! Catfish and ribs are had to be top favorites. Collared greens on the side were unlike any I'd had before. A lot of comfort food sides. Mud pie was almost too rich (you should go for the salted caramel pecan pie instead). Then again, I'm not a huge chocolate fan. Drinks were okay. Nothing fancy, but refreshing nevertheless. Wait staff were friendly and patient. Decor was modern contemporary. Not a long wait, but it gets busy past 6pm.

HipHopHead

Its a little pricey, not as southern as they make it seem. Mac and Cheese was not baked, it looked proccessed. It was in this white sauce.... not very southern.

fqdhlyc

Disappointed by quality of food.

Andrew Waszil

Food was absolutely exceptional, ate at the bar. Ted (the Bar Tender) carries on a Great after meal conversation. Highly recommend.

Michael Wagner

The fried cheese fritters were great. The steak was ok. The cornbread was subpar and the sweet potato fries were not good.

Sean Jackson

One of the best bartenders in Cville! Extremely well-crafted cocktails. Food is consistently great. Service is attentive in the casual environment.

Joseph M. Giarratano

Great food. Good service. Reasonably priced.

Jean Gratz

Good food great bar. Professional staff. One of the underrated resturants in Charlottesville. Highly recommended

Alban Gaultier

Southern food and awesome bar!

Gabby B

Went there on Mother's Day and was please with service and taste. The mother's day menu was a good deal. We enjoyed ourselves.

Jason Smith

Tasty foods, great service!

Pete Price

Good food with a nice outdoor terrace

Paul McArtor

Maya is great! The bartender Ted is the absolute best in town. It's great to stop on fire just drinks. The food is wonderful. The only negative is the food selection is small. What they have is great, but there aren't a lot of options.

John Glasgow

A great evening,

Alex Nies

Food was good, but the servings were small for almost $25 a plate. However, the two of us were seated upstairs next to three groups of 10+ people. It turned a romantic evening somewhat sour when we had to shout to hear one another. We won't be going back.

Steven Braden

Our favorite go to for dinner. By far the best "pour" for drinks in town. Call to see if Ted is bartending, and plan to sit at the bar, if so. You will not be disappointed.

Richard Bortz

Good food

Cameron Seitzman

Excellent trout, very well done broccoli, and phenomenally subtle blueberry ice cream

Jess Tracy

Great drink options and Southern food choices. A good find searching for martini bars in Charlottesville!

Chic Hakes

Just fabulous. Mothers Day Dinner. Very good food & staff.

Albert Oyerly

This place was really great. The service was quick and food was tasty

L yaron

Very good food very good drinks cute place

Drew Johnston

Cheddar biscuit waffles are am idea doing to be replicated

Jonathan Collum

A cozy spot with amazing southern comfort food. I had the baby back ribs with corn bread and grits for my sides. It was all amazing. A small menu but everyone in our party enjoyed what they had including the vegetarian in the group. They had an extensive wine, beer, and spirits/cocktails list as well. A great little spot convenient to the area hotels etc.

Nathan Widmyer

The food and service was excellent.

Myrna Bein

Howard Smith

Called before arriving to schedule reservation, seated immediately, food and service were excellent! I highly recommend this place.

Claire Jacyshyn

Delicious food, wonderful staff, great location. We were from Richmond, and visiting Charlottesville for the first time. We were so pleased. We had a party of 7, and they were so accommodating and helpful. We had to change our reservation time multiple times, due to issues with our hotel booking, and they never treated us as if it were an issue. We also brought our own cake for a birthday party, and they presented that perfectly, then sliced and served it for us.

Donna Vogel

It was restaurant week which I try to avoid. But you could order a la carte and we pieced together a very nice meal. Given that we had carnivores, pescetarians, and kosher among us, that's a success. Nice range of wines, creative cocktails, not too nousy (it's tiny), friendly and attentive service.

John Fanjoy

Room's a little crowded, but the food is great!

Ugochukwu Nsofor

Good food, nice service!

Philip Andreae

Good food, decent atmosphere, staff were pleasant

Robert Eldridge

Cozy setting, hardy comforting food with a southern flare and the staff was amazing. I would definitely go back.

Sal Bonsall

I've never eaten here but I frequent the bar every now and again. The cocktails are great and very reasonably priced, and the barman I happen to see most times is very friendly.

David H

Best place to get cocktails in Charlottesville and some of the best bartenders

Alison Henry

Thomas Marshall

Outstanding cuisine. Generous welcoming service.

Julie M

Great drinks, delicious food! I could never afford to go there! Thank goodness my boss was treating :-)

Skyler Stoddart

. Had the best service. I just went to watch the ball drop and they had complimentary bubbly. It was the best. I have loved my visits here over the years!

Lajhonay Thomas

I love the restaurant, the food is amazing and the atmosphere is relaxing. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I wish there were more options on the menu. I highly recommend this place though.

Brian Alexander

Maya has been recommended to my wife and I more than several times. We finally decided to visit recently on a Thursday. The recent weekly Chicken Fried Chicken special served as cuisine intrigued me. Chef Daren, amongst the team that night, cared for the preparations of our a la carte meal. Wow! Can't wait to get into the regular menus. Great job Chefs.

Sunil Bajaj

Nice place but drinks are expensive more than other bars locally

Alison Henry

Very personable staff and nice ambiance. The food is delicious and the drinks are great.

Nina Comiskey

Good atmosphere and high quality southern food

S A

Outstanding bartender and delicious food

Ed Boehm

What a wonderful experience! It was restaurant week in Charlottesville, so we were only able to get a seat at the bar, which turned out to be NO PROBLEM! Ted and Lisa (the bartenders) were absolutely wonderful, and the food was to die for! From appetizer to desert, the food, atmosphere, service, and experience were delightful! We now have a new restaurant to love in Charlottesville to love, can't wait to go back! Thank you, Kim and Ed from Richmond!!

Jason Ibarra

We started off with the Pimento Cheese Fritters and Cornmeal-Crusted Fried Oysters. My 4-year-old son, normally a very picky eater, devoured the Oysters. The only words out of his mouth were "can I have another" until they were eventually gone. The Fritters were gone quickly as well. Some of our guests swore by the accompanying chive sour cream sauce for the Fritters, I preferred them without it as they were delicious alone. Oh, and the Corn Bread was in the top three I've ever had, hitting all the right marks. Thin, yet crisp crust, moist interior, sweet, but not too sweet and just the right crumble. While all of the entrees were on point, our favorites were the Ancho Rubbed Pork Tenderloin and the Pan Seared Crab Cakes. If you like skin-on mashed potatoes, get them here. The pork was cooked perfectly, the rub was slightly charred to a crust, while the center remained juicy and then it was sliced at a sharp angle serving up 5 beautiful medallions. My father-in-law indulged on the Vanilla Bean Cheesecake. By indulge I mean it was gone before anyone could ask for a bite. I had the Chilly Willie, OMG. It's like the best of all worlds. The menu describes cherry ice cream and for that I was skeptical. I'm glad I didn't let my skepticism stop me because it's not at all what I imagined. We're talking about two incredible oatmeal cookies hugging this ice cream that did not at all remind me of cherries. As if the combo wasn't already a dream, it got dipped in dark chocolate (maybe semi-sweet), cut in half and served as two half-moons perched on a bed of marshmallow fluff. I do wish they had espresso, but I guess that's not a "Southern Thing", so that'll just have to wait until I make it to Mudhouse in the morning.

Yazmin Walker

Always excellent. Great food, service and atmosphere.

Aaron Thompson

Some of the best simple dishes I've had in years if not longer.

Gail Hayes

The fried pimento cheese balls are to die for. Steak was pretty good. Parking might be a hassle, so leave extra time for that. Ambiance upstairs is pleasant

Mona Spencer

Wonderful place

Jody Frazier

a little pricey but excellent food. drop biscuits and the brussel sprouts awesome. best bloody mary i have had. recommend the pickled green beans instead of boring lemon or lime wow. Rick Miranda

Great food and service!

Brooke Family

Staff is friendly and attentive, no wait and food was amazing. I had the catfish which was cooked perfectly, the broccoli was sautéed in garlic which was firm but melted in your mouth. I also had the hush puppies special which was so good I got a second side for dessert!!! Upscale feel but extremely reasonable prices. Will return again and again when I am in town.

Brian Quinn

Great food and great service

Eric Hahn

Delicious southern style food. The fried oysters are a must, a little salt and lemon added on top makes them perfect.

J Wilson

Very good eclectic menu.

Juan Carlos Jaramillo

Great food and great atmosphere. The cocktails are also really good.

Katelyn Atkinson

One of the best meals I've had in my life! I ordered the pimento cheese balls, apple cider rabbit quarter with steamed greens and cheesy grits, and the oat and fudge bar for dessert. It was absolutely heavenly!

Elizabeth Gonye

The catfish is wonderful. Pimento cheese fritters are a must have. Also, always ask for the specials. They're usually incredible.

David Douglas

Order the cheese balls on the appetizer menu. Order a plate for you, and don't share it. Order several of them. Ignore the rest of the food, it is decent but there won't be room because you have to order the cheese balls from the appetizer menu. They are soooo good. They have a jelly sauce and some sort of ranch, hard to describe, just go get some.

Enrica Hairston

Great food & service. Large portions.

Shannon Sarmiento

Fantastic intimate little treasure of a restaurant. Great service, fantastic food, nice little romantic place we found just for us.

Igor Smirnov

There is the best barmen on Charlottesville

Stephen Colvin

Southern food in a great Charlottesville atmosphere. One of the better bars in town for a low-key date night. Pimento cheese fritters are a must for a starter. Airplane chicken with ham gravy and brussel sprouts are fantastic.

Jorge Rodriguez

Great food, average facilities, bit pricy for what it is...

Marc Zavacky

Enjoyed dinner here during Restaurant Week.

Jeremy Troupe

Fantastic food and service. Great drink selections and bartenders.

Mark Otte

we went out for a special meal with an out-of-town guest and we're very pleased. The staff was very attentive and helpful, and helped make for a memorable evening. The choices were excellent, and we all enjoyed our meal. I especially like the fried okra! The shafts are very capable, and the prices were reasonable. They also offer a fine place for a cocktail well into the evening!

Kathleen Hojohn

Great service & great food. The special Valentines menu was fantastic! Decor is welcoming. Parking can be a bit difficult.

Brad Armstrong

Ted is one of the most likable and competent bartenders in town. Always worth a stop for happy hour and the $12 Tuesday dinners are hard to beat.
