This Restaurant is classified in the category of French restaurant.
We were in a group and ate from prix fixe selection so I am not sure what the regular choices are but the food was good and the service was responsive and friendly. Wouldn't call it exceptional but definitely good. Relatively small place with an upstairs room as well as bar and dining downstairs, with an overall good feel. Good selection of wines
The spot is superb and roomy, the food was yummy and the rates were very economical. quick, efficient service and very friendly waiters. Will definitely recommend this spot.
This is one of the places that I went during my first trip to DC. I wanted to try it because I really love French food and it was close to where I was staying. I enjoyed the food so much, however, that I would happily make the commute across the city to eat here. The ambiance of the restaurant is nice and it feels like it belongs exactly where it sits. I typically don't comment on these types of things but the music choice was very good as well adding to the atmosphere without taking anything away from the conversation. The staff were extremely friendly as well. Overall I'd say that this establishment truly earned the five star rating.
One of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. Our server was arrogant, condescending and showed no interest in providing me and my guest with information regarding the menu. Not to mention the food was sub standard to say the least. We barely touched our plates the food was that bad. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. I wish I could give it 0 stars.
Delicious food, great ambiance and service!
Wow! Great food and awesome service!
Beautiful interior and great staff.
Their brunch is the best
Great place from the Owners of Le Chat Noir in Tenleytown. Authentic, consistent.
Smoke shop upstairs☮
Unpretentious cozy atsmophere. Excellent food. Fairly priced. Wonderful bartender. Good ingredients executed beautifully. Relax and enjoy!
Awesome.
I work for Postmates and delivered here. My very first time knowing of this place.
Excellent food, great service and warmth atmosphere. Do miss out the crepes. Definitely a repeat!
Cozy, authentic and delicious. They’re fairly accommodating, but call ahead for a reservation!
OK food, French inspired. The atmosphere is cozy, and it feels like a brasserie. The staff seemed completely lost, and don't seem trained on basic table service/bussing
Food was event, coffee was not.
Great little French Bistro. I loved their sandwiches. The restaurant is great, and the atmosphere is really good. I've only been there for brunch, but it's always been really good. They have a nice menu. Not a ton of options, but a good selection. Drinks where good also. I though the crepe was slightly too thick, but all my friends really liked it, so I might be pickier than most being French. But I love hanging out at this place when my friends and I are in the area.
Fantastic all around. Great food, cocktails, ambiance, and not overpriced. The avocado and cucumber soup was a favorite
Feels like what I imagine France would. Decent drinks.
Delicious food, excellent selection, and wonderful staff!
I went for brunch with my boyfriend last weekend, and we split a couple of dishes. This place gets 5/5 for atmosphere—it has very charming decor and sets a nice mood. Unfortunately, the food was very disappointing. The eggs Benedict was bland and watery, the steak was chewy, and the pistachio ice cream was chalky. The bread and Nutella crepe were the highlights of the meal. The French fries were also good.
Maybe it’s because it was restaurant week but I was very disappointed with the food and service here. We went with a group and there were a couple good dishes (onion soup, steak frites, and the puff pastry dessert) but overall everything was super bland, not great flavors, really inconsistent and often small portion sizes (they gave 3 mushrooms for the mushroom appetizer). The vegetarian dish was basically just boiled vegetables and plain black rice. But most disappointing was how slow the service was. Our dinner took over 3 hours.
The menu is fairly standard, everything was good but not particularly memorable, save the duck.
They only have happy hour specials at the bar. Reasonably priced beers, expensive wine. The crepes were excellent. Two people had the pork meal (Le Cochon). The pork was overcooked, the cabbage was nothing special and the Camembert was so small as to be inconsequential. We did not have dessert.
Good flat-fee brunch, professional staff.
Great food even though i was a little skeptical everything was great and the staff was very attentive. Not ver roomy but seated comfortably
Had a wonderful time the food was good service was acceptable could you better
Delicious food, great brunch option, a little pricey and service was slow with a wrong order
We will be sure to come back here soon.
Slowest damn service in America. And you pay $30 for three grains of rice and a sprinkling of meat. No flavor either, though that might be my bias against French food.
Super relaxed and casual, yet such professional service and fantastic food.
Had great brunch there
Excellent traditional French cuisine at a moderate price. Very good wine list. Full bar. At 5th and H NE, in the burgeoning H Street corridor. Trendy antique decor, great service in a neighborhood environment. I recommend this place for food, drink, service, and atmosphere. You'll be glad you tried Le Grenier.
We've been here twice and had great experiences both times. This last time the soup du jour was cream of carrot and it was fantastic. The fish of the day was awesome as well. Great wine list with reasonable prices too. We'll be back.
Really enjoyed sitting at the bar. Went on Wednesday and they had a great half off deal for a bottle of wine. Food looked delicious but only went for drinks.
Cozy atmosphere. Good, friendly service. Fantastic, interesting menu. So many great options it’s hard to choose.
Wonderful place. Authentic French cuisine. A great little attic spot.
Came into Union Station, and walked down H St, taking a chance. It was 6.30 pm. No reservation meant no tables available, but there WAS space at the bar for three of us. We hesitated for a split second -- but saw that yes, there were three seats open at the end of the bar and decided to stay. So glad that we did. The food (delicious), the ambience (warm and cosy), the sound level (not too quiet, not too loud), the service (friendly but unobtrusive) -- every piece of it worked to make for a good evening. It's a long way from home, or we would be back in a heart-beat.
Very quaint, kicky place with fantastic food, wonderful service and shown French wine list. Definitely recommend it!
A quaint French hideaway on H the corridor that exceeded our expectations for brunch last Sunday (7/1/2018). Confit duck leg was best I’ve had in a while, more tender than I thought possible and accompanied by a steamed and (maybe pickled?) fennel bulb, black rice and a delicious sauce that married this culinary 'manage-a-trois'. A cup of coffee (arguably, the best in DC), a lemon crepe and Voila’! Time and money well spent!
I ignorantly avoided this place at first because I thought it would be super expensive. Shame on me. Happy hour wine specials are fantastic all week long. Chocolate mousse dessert was amazing, not too rich. I'm going back for the entrée menu... they look to be very good prices for classic French fare that smells and looks delicious.
Fantastic food and awesome service.
We have been to Le Grenier for dinner and brunch and both are great. The service is good but not excellent--for example, I was served the wrong Eggs Benedict for brunch (with smoked salmon instead of Canadian bacon). But it was still delicious so no complaints. The atmosphere is very cool. The converted rowhouse features exposed brick and wall art. This is a good place to bring a date!
Outstanding food. Vol-au-vent and Le Gouden = mouth-watering and charmingly delicious. A great escape from American cuisine. It's a French restaurant, so sit back, relax, and take your time. Theres's no rushing; orders are spaced out. If you're like me (a food monster), make sure to get plenty appetizers!
Reasonably priced French country cuisine. Sorely needed at this location. Owner and staff are French or Belgian.
I keep thinking about trying new places to eat out in DC but I always end up back here; and I'm never disappointed. I haven't been to tons of restaurants in DC but I've been to a fair few and Le Grenier is my favorite. EVERYTHING is wonderful: service, atmosphere, cocktails, and most definitely the food. Excellent menu with a lot of selections for all courses. I am always sad to leave but always look forward to the next time!
Delicious
Food is very good! Go check them out!
Get the pork! If you want to go, but no one will go with you, let me know. The pork is so good that I would happily have dinner with a complete stranger.
Solid execution of classic French dishes and wines. Consistent dishes, good service and even a great happy hour at the bar too! Would definitely recommend cheese plates, charcuterie, mussels, and even just good crusty bread and butter. This is the place to go for French food on H St.
Came for their crepes and they were delicious! Definitely will be back in the future!
Nice little French restaurant on H Street; authentic cuisine & good service.
Great food, great service
Standout offering even on H, which has a ton of good restaurants. The bread in particular is fantastic, as is the onion soup (no need to add 'French'!) They have a pretty darn good brunch deal, too: $19.95 for a glass of champagne/mimosa, entree, and soup or dessert. The service is about what you'd expect from a French restaurant, but the food makes up for it.
My friend has been here many times and invited me to try this place out during my trip to DC. I was pleased by manager's call of confirmation and accommodation of our 7 min delay. She was praising the food so much, so I had high expectations. Her salad Endives aux mûres was plain and bitter, and my Crêpe Provence had enormous amount of black pepper on pears that it was almost burning my mouth. My friend had Marmite du pêchu, which was delicious and I had Saumon flip flop. My goat cheese tart was so dry, not enjoyable despite creamy goat cheese. I personally did not like cucumber sorbet, but it was well made. What made us upset the most, is after we finished out dinner, we were expecting deserts. Waiters took away the dishes, and then their French manager came to our table, and put cutlery right on the table full of bread crumbs. I've been to at least few hundred restaurants in my life, in even cheap diners won't let this happen. It was so disgusting - clean cutlery on our dirty table, we lifted them and wiped the table ourselves. The place was moderately busy, and even if it would have been - there is no excuse for this, sorry. The food was nothing superb, I had better experience.
Amazing. Very Parisian.
I have been here a couple of times and both times have been great. Starting off with a good beer and wine menu, and moving to the full dinner menu. While the entrees are always great, there is also a few cheese plate options. And don't eat too much, because the crepes for dessert are delicious.
I had a very good brunch there. Affordable (20$) for a coffee, mimosa, soup and main. The bread was hot, the soup great and the croque monsieur, probably the best I had in north america. The chef knows his stuff. Service was good too. Nice deco.
My absolute favorite French restaurant in the city. Hands down !
I went here with a travelzoo coupon. I have never heard of this place before and thought I would give it a try. I must tell you I LOVED IT!!! It is a quintessential French Bistro... Very romantic atmosphere and delightful French food. Best beef bourguignon I have EVER had. Try this place…you will NOT be disappointed. GREAT FOR "DATE NIGHT"
A great hidden gem on H St! Wonderful ambience, interesting and authentic food, great wine and some of the best bread in the city. Love going there for half price bottles of wine or just a cheese and baguette night. Be warned though... You'll be tempted to get a cheese plate and a couple of appetizers... You will send up not feeling like dessert and you'll be missing out!
I surprised my French girlfriend to this spot and she absolutely loved it. Very nice taste of French food and wine. its more of a romantic thing here so if you wanna treat her nice, you gotta take her to place like these but be prepared to pay the price.
Nice staff and great food!
Toujours délicieux. C'est de la vrai cuisine française!
Sat down at the bar with a buddy at the bar for a quick bite to eat and really enjoyed the atmosphere. Good ambience, and really great food.
Good place to eat. Mimosa brunch was wonderful.
Wonderful restaurant with a welcoming staff. I highly recommend the mussels. C'est magnifique !
Great food, cozy atmosphere...definitely one of our go to's in the neighborhood.
Beautiful and friendly atmosphere, great food and excellent service!
Perfect French experience for happy hour or dining. Lovely food and nice wine.
Quaint place with excellent food and good service.
Waiter is very friendly. The place is elegant but also cozy enough to allow you to laugh freely.
Perfect French Bistro with a delicious menu. Staff was very attentive.
Great place to eat!
I can only speak to the HH which is the best in DC. Half priced beer, wine and cocktails from 5-7 most nights, half priced wine and cheese plates on Tuesdays.
Delicious and great atmosphere.
Great ambience and food
I met my friend her for dinner who I hadn't seen in months. We had a reservation, but only managed to try the wine. We spent some time catching up and while we were deciding what we would like to eat, we asked for bread and butter- usually a staple in French restaurants. We were told that unless we planned to order we could not have any because it was complimentary to those who ate. Of course we were planning to order! When the server returned we again asked for bread and butter while we finished making our dinner selections. He responded by saying that because we had taken so long to order that we would have to be out in the next thirty minutes (only thirty-five minutes had passed). I was taken aback and asked to speak to his manager. I wish it had ended there. The manager came over and we explained what happened- that we were planning to order, asked for bread and butter while we were trying to making up our minds etc. Instead of saying there was a misunderstanding, she reiterated the server by saying we need to leave the dinning room. That if we weren't going to eat we had to leave. Mind you we were planning to order and had already ordered $30 of worth of wine. It was a horrible experience. I have worked in many restaurants before, and I never would have treated guests this way. I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone. It was so strange. We ended up leaving without eating anything as a result.
Bavette a l'echalote
It French food! Every element from the decor to plates to the staff screams authentic French. The food was exemplary. It does not stick out like a sore thumb while being on the trendy H Street. It has an identity all it's own and it lives up to it each time.
I had high expectations for this place. We were sat and asked about water, we ordered sparkling but never recieved it. After about 10 minutes we were given tap water. After a total of 20 minutes we were greeted and told the menu were given and chose food from was unavailable. Needless to say we left. Horrible service! I am a bartender, I understand being busy, but our server nor the manager made eye contact or tried to help until 20 mins after we were sat.
Great service. Casual, not stuffy
Great local, small business. Don’t miss Brunch!
Escape D.C. for an up-casual dinner in France! Great menu for everyone, hospitable and charming staff with full bar! Two words: cheese plate.
While everyone loves Le Diplomat, I find this place the best French bistro in DC. It's small but very comfortable and authentic. I stumbled across this place because it was apart of the DC Passport (buy one, get one summer program) and glad I found it. Perfect for a date
Nice spot for brunch or dinner. More of a vintage vibe
Had a work dinner here. The drinks were great and the service was absolutely fantastic! Probably the best lamb burger I have ever had. Sadly the potatoes and carmelized onions with that were plated with the burger were WAY too garlicky!! To the point where I was having potatoes with my minced garlic. I love garlic but you lost all flavor of the potatoes and carmelized onions and the garlic eventually was more burn than flavor. It was really a shame as the bun and burger were exquisite. I would give them another try but would stay away from anything they have that lists garlic as part of the dish description.
Comida francesa auténtica. Fuimos un domingo al brunch y sin duda fue una comida suficientemente grande. Pedimos el postre para llevar. Sin duda un lugar para repetir
French food and cosy place!
Le Grenier was a pleasant surprise. I didn't know I liked French food until I went there. I liked the atmosphere (though my friends thought something was "off"). The cocktails and food were amazing (get the beef stew). GO HERE!
Very authentic French country food. Friendly waitstaff. Reasonable corkage fee ($15, 0 on Sundays).
Love it best brunch special on Saturdays for the money
Nice building, weird nonsensical decor (on the same wall: some fake vintage capitals, an old picture of a random family, some oxidated trombones and a punching ball) with some beautiful pieces of furniture. Weird layout of the tables (we were sandwiched between the live band and the counter). Tiny table and chairs, but that could pass as "authentic". Decent service yet chaotic: I counted EIGHT people running around tables and the place was not very busy, it seemed like a lot of traffic and disorganized movement. We ordered two starters and a big charcuterie plate to share after that. It all came at the same time making the little table very crammed. The escargots were bitter (which generally means they weren't cleaned properly at the source) but the rest of the dishes were good. What I found pretty out of place was getting paper napkins (really???!)... Lastly the $10 glass of wine was served in the tiniest wine glass I've ever seen. Good wine selection however. The live music (classic French songs) was a nice touch, but the acoustic guitar with an amplified voice made it quite loud for tables close to it. I'd go for full acoustic if I were them. I'd probably go back to try the bar and give their drinks a go, but all and all the experience was bland. The bill was surprisingly decent however. Lots of potential I think, but needs better management and a more defined direction.
Amazing French cuisine with incredible decor
Great, modern looking, French restaurant. I initially thought it's going to be too pretentious but I was positively surprised with very hearty portions of delicious old-school dishes and very helpful staff. I would love to dine here again!
Cocktails were good; the atmosphere created by the interior design is lovely. The catch of the day--cod cooked in broth with mussels and potatoes--contained nicely cooked fish but was a bit high on salt and low on broth flavor. The crab cake had to be sent back: the taste and texture of crab were nowhere evident--only unpleasant spice and mush. Recommend the chef travel to Faidley Seafood at Lexington Market in Baltimore to sample the famous crab cake there and emulate.
Love this spot for authentic French. Friendly staff.
Lovely French spot on H St. Food was quite good and the space is very cute!
Ate here on a visit to DC - WONDERFUL. My mom and I were immediately seated on a Saturday evening and were quickly served water and warm baguettes with fresh butter. We ordered two glasses of chardonnay and the chicken and salmon entrees. Everything was delicious and fresh - our favorite was the salmon with the goat cheese tart and the cucumber sorbet. Service and food were phenomenal and we considered the price a bargain for what we got. HIGHLY recommend!
Great food
The experience was shockingly bad. Usually when you eat at a weak restaurant, at least one or two of the dishes are enjoyable. Everything here was poor, from the flat cocktails to the dry appetizers to the entrees. The price point is moderate for DC but far too much for what you’re offered. The seafood dish at $28 consisted of three shrimp and two scallops, overcooked, and a small ball of the worst restaurant risotto I’ve ever had. Service was alright, albeit a bit confused. Maybe the worst dining experience I’ve ever had in DC? We have so many wonderful restaurants, honestly I’m curious how this place is still open.
GOOD SERVICE! BUT THE FOOD WASNT TOO GOOD.
Great food, very affordable
This is one of the best experiences I had at a french restaurant. The appetizers were exceeded our expectations. The Escargots de Bourgogne was a flavorful experience, and the La petite ferme was delightful. The entrees, cheese and pate were also fantastic. The pate is highly recommended. The duck leg confit was delectable. The highlight however was desert. The rhubarb and plumb sweet crepe (Odette) was the highlight of a delicious and romantic evening. Even the small detail of the bread was superb, fresh out of the oven bread with a hard crust. The price was moderate for DC, but the quality of the food. The wait staff is attentive. The atmosphere of the restaurant is a mix of classic romantic and quirky cafe. This may sound a bit like a contradiction, but it works very well for the restaurant. This is the perfect restaurant for a special romantic occasion or a small gathering of close friends. Highly recommended.
Upstairs; very good French cuisine; excellent service.
Truly delicious creativefood, fantastic service and excellent wine. In this once capital hill home you feel at home!
Great food, reasonable price
If you don't mind paying $25 for a seafood dinner and find yourself staring at 2 shrimp and 2 scallops, well then O.K. for you. The waiter three times tried to force a few more drops of water into the already full water glasses and I wanted to yell, CUT IT OUT! The meager food was just unbelievable and the water interruption made no sense.
Great food...slow service.
Liked the food and unique interior. Less accessible location, though.
Nice atmosphere & the food was good.
Came with a friend for happy hour and all you can eat mussels on Thursday night. Nice atmosphere, bartender could be just a tiny bit more friendly. Absolutely no beer on tap. What??? The bread they serve is AMAZING but they order it somewhere else. Our first serving of mussels was ok- they were quite small and didn't seem extremely fresh. But white sauce was delicious and we came in super hungry so we ordered the second pot. This one was much better - fresh mussels and larger in size. We both noticed the difference instantly without discussing. So overall I'd say it is a nice place. I just hope this kind of quality inconsistency was accidental. Also, I really DON'T like that neighborhood:( There are other amazing places if you go specifically for mussels and draft beer in Cleveland park, for example. All you can eat deal wasn't mind blowing either.
The customer service is below sub par! Still waiting for food 2 hours later. Only 3 persons in my party.
It was a fun time and great atmosphere and great waiter but I wasn't over the top on the the food. Fries and steak were too salty. And too many fries. Wished it had some vegetables instead. I went with a big group of people.
One authentic frenchman present. Food was judged by a Francophile to be "straight up French food." Endive salad was enjoyed. Wine by the glass was affordable.
Excellent food and wine selections. Plates are unique but traditional well balanced delicacies. Plan to get a few apps (sized xs). Ambiance is wonderful. Lighting and staff are friendly and romantic.
This restaurant is one of those restaurants one keeps on visiting, because the food is prepared with great care and the service is impeccable.
I was in a party of 5 for dinner Saturday night. Le Grenier is Excellent! Attentive staff, great cocktails and wine. We all ordered different entrees and everyone was very happy with their meals.
This was a great experience. My husband and I went here for dinner and the wait staff was very polite very courteous and very patient with our limited French skills. So if you do have a beginner or intermediate grasp on the French language this is a great place for you to test your skills. We then booked the restaurant for a small birthday get-together of 8 people and they were very accommodating with a Prix fixe menu. Bar stays open late and the food was delicious and authentic.
Good food. Great wine.
Visited for our anniversary. The service was superb and the food delish. We'll be back. What a wonderful and welcoming place.
Very enjoyable brunch yesterday! Food was excellent & so was the service. Fun, lively way to spend a couple hours enjoying the atmosphere on an early Sunday afternoon. Worth the trip from Frederick, MD !!
went with the family - un grand merci - loved the creative salmon creation - and of course the cheese selection - bravo - super bien
Nice French restaurant on h st ne
It's a cute restaurant and had the atmosphere we were looking for but the waiter was condescending and rude. I ordered the lamb medium rare and when it came it was dry and way overdone. I HATE sending back food but I couldn't even cut into it. When I called the waiter over I apologized saying maybe he had heard me say medium well instead of medium rare, but could I please exchange it. He came back with the new one, "Just so you know, I checked the one you sent back and it was NOT medium well." Um. Ok. It sure wasn't medium rare though. Everyone else was professional, but we're never going back.
Branch 可选择比较少 味道不错
Great food
The best brunch in D.C. $20 for drink, entree and desert or app. Fantastic atmosphere AND they take reservations.
Came for happy hour. The 1/2 price cocktails are a steal. I had 2 and although they were good, the mixology did not wow me. Wonderful atmosphere in any case.
Great food, décor, ans service
had food here for breakfast and was decent. Good for family fun and friends!
Unique decor and amazing food. Ask for recommendations and trust the staff. They won't steer you wrong!
Not for the cheap or very hungry, but I thoroughly enjoyed the pastry appetizer and savory and sweet crepes.
I
Went for brunch with a group of 6- service was just excellent. Trust the chef, go with the plat du jur
Overall experience good: ambiance and atmosphere were attractive, food was ok, waiter could be more pleasant.
Overall terrible service. We were seated at a table right in front of the entrance which doesn’t make sense for the colder months. On top of this, a homeless drug addict walked right into the restaurant and hovered over our table trying to grab a candle to use as a lighter. The staff did absolutely nothing to handle the issue as quickly as possible and also refused to change our seats after the incident. Staff is not professional and did not do well in the aspect of taking care of customers. Honestly it was a horrible experience.
I was traveling from Miami to NYC and i came to DC for a weekend with my cousin. we were trying to find a good place to eat and walking around we found le grenier amazing!!! just amazing the food the service I couldn't ask for anything better. Now I recommended it to all my friends that are traveling now to DC . When I'm in DC again I'm making a reservations !
Love this place on H street. Authentic French food with a great wine list. My favorite dish is the lamb entree, but everything I've had on the menu is great. The service is also excellent. They help make sure you get exactly what you want and offer great recommendations.
Great food and a quaint setting. It was a refreshing change of cuisine from the general "American" style that has consumed DC.
So good! Amazing food and drinks. Great atmosphere. Perfect H St. date spot.
Great pâté
The service here needs help. Our main server forgot basic things like bread and butter, forgotten drink orders, utensils, informed other tables about wine specials but not us, especially annoying after we'd ordered wine and cocktails, it would help to have known what's on special. Onion soup was delicious. Both entrees were way over seasoned, unevenly cooked lamb chops. Seafood soup way too salty also. The atmosphere is nice, but I'm sticking to drinks only here, especially at the price.
Delicious French restaurant on H st! The food is a bit pricey, so definitely a special occasion place but well worth the visit!
This place has a great Happy Hour. It goes until 7pm on weekdays. They also have great deals throughout the week on bottles of wine. The food looks amazing although Ive only had their cheese plate. Great atmosphere and friendly bar staff.
Beautiful romantic setting with great selection of cocktails and reasonably-priced, classic french cuisine.
Might have simply been an off day, but the service upstairs left a lot to be desired. Waited more than 40 minutes for first drink order.
