I constantly come by getting some food in here. I loved the efficient service and well cooked dishes. I recommend this place.
Very consistent and delicious. I usually get the steak frite, which is perfectly cooked, the fries are crispy on the outside and creamy in the middle. Perfect with the Béarnaise sauce that comes with it. My only disappointment are the desserts: what they call chocolate mousse is cold ganache with whipped cream--tasty if you like things that have sat in the fridge a while. But it is not chocolate mousse. Creme brulee is typical and sort of ho hum. I got the homemade coffee gelato for quite a while, but the last two times it was bitter. A friend adores the cheesecake. Hands down La Petite Auberge has the best menu for the best value during Restaurant Week. I have lunch there once a month, and often more.
I have a special diet. When I called the restaurant before we went, I was assured that the chef would work with all diets. After arriving and discussing my diet needs with the waitress, I was told the chef did not like to alter any of the menus. Therefore, I had only one thing I could order. I will not be going to this restaurant again.
Fabulous!
Three stars are all for the servers who were excellent. I just really did not enjoy the food at all. I could have done without any of it. They overcharged for "fancy" food that was just raw meat basically.
Great as usual.
My wife and I had a wonderful meal , an the service was perfect!!! We will take pics next time
Delicious French good, lovely interior, polite ,knowledgeable staff!
The food is so delicious. The service is excellent. The friendly bartender is an expert. Cozy ambiance.
Excellent food, service, and most of all, value, will make me keep returning here
Bon appetite. Great food. Their here a long time in downtown area.
Crabcakes...little or no lump meat.... average taste. Party of 4 the staff took 2 of our wine glasses when they cleared the table...we still had wine in The bottle... go figure..... next time steak and ice tea (if we have a next time)
My waitress, Amanda, was great. Attentive and precise. They were out of the blackened mahi mahi, however they did offer to use the salmon in its place. It was good, the rum glazed bananas were a little much on the sweet side for me, but that's a preference. They were done well, and not unpleasant as far as texture goes, just not for me. The salmon was cooked perfect, and a nice crusted Blackening. I was seated in the lounge, a more american style seating area versus the classic french cusine dining area. All in all, a great lunch with a good atmosphere.
Hospitable older bar-restaurant. Well you don't eat the décor I suppose so disregard the need for a face lift. We ordered a flight of five seafood dishes which were all prepared well and presentation was satisfactory for rural Fredericksburg. Took some time for the order to arrive. Can be loud and staff could use training in classical service but that's common outside of the city areas. In all a good value for classical food with a twist.
We enjoyed girls night out here. Music that evening was Great!
The French onion soup and flank steak were fantastic. The homemade bearnaise was the best!
The at La Petite Auberge the service is superb and the food is very good. The chefs at this fine restaurant are certified and put love and care in every plate. I love to sit in the lounge and enjoy a drink with my husband. Wayne the bartender is great and suggestioned an espresso martini, which is now my favorite. Chef Ramon has done a great job and I wish him all the best.
This was our first time here and we found this place to be excellent. The food was over the top good. The service was friendly and competent. Try the bread. It's worth the trip by itself
Food was awesome. Band was great as well.
Can be pricey but well worth it. I have never had a bad experience here.
Excellent food and service. Would only suggest offering a few Belgian beers.
Great French restaurant.
THE BEST FOOD IN Fredericksburg VA. None better. Period and I have eaten in all of them.
Amazing food. My fiancé and I got the herb crusted salmon and the seared scallops with pancetta. Both dishes were prepared perfectly and brought out with generous servings. The bread was crusty and flavorful. Our server, Ronald, was very knowledgeable about the menu and had fantastic recommendations. Very, very pleased with our experience and we will absolutely be returning.
Excellent like always! Only issue was slow service, but that was due to a large group of people that were having a conference.
Whether it's for a whole meal or dessert, a nice place to eat. Food is top notch and well prepared.
Wayne! Need I say more? Order the duck confit appetizer. Never a disappointed moment. The bar us full of well informed knowledgeable types with jokes.
The best nice restaurant in Fredericksburg
Fine dining. All good except chocolate mousse.....heavy, cardboard. Excellent service, friendly. Casual dress accepted. Appears date night favorite.
We have been spending our time at La Petite for over 25 years. Our friends gifted us a $200 gift certificate for Christmas several years ago. We had 2 friends in from the Middle East and took them with us for dinner at La Petite. After a nice evening we used our certificates for payment. We were denied stating that they expired. When does cash expire? Did the cash expire that they collected from our friends? Poor taste. Poor business. Gone are the days of Christian that practiced the art of honoring patrons that have supported his establishment for years. The waiters and staff are great, but they dont make the rules. I am sure that Renato,s would have honored the certificates. Next time, we will go elsewhere.
My wife and I try to go here once a year, usually on our anniversary or one of our Birthdays. We have been going here for a few years. Now we are by no means "regulars" and we have had great experiences here. This year was quite a different experience. To start off the menu was different than previous years, which wasn't a bad thing. Then it took quote sometime before we were even greeted, and the guy just said "can i get you drinks?" Once our order was placed (this took some time) we were pretty much left to our own devices until food came. I had to flag down the waiter several times for things he should have noticed on his own. Then we had to flag him down again after sitting for 20 minutes with our napkins on our plates to get the check. We were very disappointed with the level of service we received from JIM, however we may come back again...its up in the air at this point. This restaurant is "fine dining" it'd be nice to get that level of service all the time. **The scores I gave this restaurant is based on all of our outings here, not the most recent.
Great lunch, love the pate sandwich. Rum cake was very good. Good service and ambience.
By far one of my favorite places in the world. Amazing food, great atmosphere and excellent wait staff.
Delicious food, impeccable service, none better.
Excellent food! Excellent service!
Great ambience. Steak was awesome
Great little French restaurant downtown F'BURG!! Good food, both lunch and dinner. We typically go when my husband wants steak tartar.
Went to lunch with my mom and 6month old son. From the hostess to the server (Christine you're awesome!!!) everyone was very nice and accommodating. The food was DANGEROUSLY DELICIOUS!!! The brie with the garlic butter is an absolute must and the prosciutto with fresh mozzarella and tomato hit the spot. Sadly we were too full to eat dessert so we got it to go. This restaurant would be a nice dinner date night.
We love La Petite- great service and always wonderful food
Finest French onion soup. Great service.
Ear in the bar. You won't regret it
Excellent as always. Sherry is the best!
Food is great , it is a restaurant that you don’t rush in and out , you sit relax and enjoy
The food was excellent! The service was fantastic! The live music by The Brokedown Boys capped off a wonderful evening.
The food is quite good, generous but not overwhelming portions, and the waiters are efficient and friendly. It is one of my top favorite restaurants.
Well I have had some great memories over the past few months at restaurants from Louisiana to Cape Neddick. Tomight's memories were only 1hr from home and was Priceless. La Petite is a top 5 of the past year. Let's start with the Purpose. My wife's BIRTHDAY. Now the reservation 6pm, we arrived 30 minutes early, and we were seated immediately. The introduction of our server Haylee, Pleasant, full of flavor, and great voice. The meal- Escargot in garlic and butter sauce, Veal Medallions, Rock Fish with scallop, shrimp in a cream sauce. The dessert- Mousse and Creme brulee. The Picture's tell the rest!!
I scheduled my dinner reservation a week in advance for my wedding reception for a small group of people, as I had dined at this restaurant before and absolutely adored it. I was shocked at the quality of service. While our server was friendly and accommodating, the amount of time it took for us to receive our drinks and food was terrible. We continually had to get up and inquire as to where our server was or when our food was going to arrive (3 of our guests ordered the calamari, which should EASILY have been out in 20 minutes). While I love the food, I don't think I'll be likely....or any of my guests for that matter....will be likely to go back any time soon.
We've been going to La Petite for 20 years and they used to be the best place in town, and while they are still a great place to eat, I don't feel like it's as great as it used to be. My last visit was OK. Service was great, our server was attentive and helpful but not intrusive. The food was a tad on the bland side, scallops were a bit overcooked, just seems to have lost a bit of the previous wow factor. Maybe it was just an off night or something, but I'd still go again and recommend it.
An excellent place for dinner with friends or out with someone special. The food is excellent from the appetizers and entrees to the dessert. Service is exceptional and atmosphere is comfortable and nice.
One of my go to restaurants in Fredericksburg for top end dining. I have not been disappointed yet and have been 7+ times.
Excellent food friendly servers, not overly expensive.
Petite is a cozy little eatery. We often eat in the bar area instead of opting for the formal dining room. The small bar area does fill up very quickly. The food is quite good and the service is comprehensive.
Very authentic, fresh and delicious! Service was impeccable.
Been around for decades and still very special. Great bang for buck. We really like the front bar when you want a more casual but festive vibe
I love coming here. They know exactly what I want and always having amazing recommendations if I want something new.
Delicious food. Decent portions worth the price. The server Beth was great.
Delicious bernaise sauce on their filets. Creme brulee for dessert was delicious as well. Not to pricey without alcohol but add some wine and you're looking at over 100
Quiet; quality meal and service.
Had a birthday lunch with my sister-in-law. The food was delicious and the waiting staff very friendly and helpful.
Ive been here a dozen times. Always great service except for tonight. It took us 20 minutes to get our drinks and 1 hour to get our meal. It used to be one of my favorites but has gone very down hill.
The food was good, the samples of wine throughout the meal was a pretty nice deal, and the service was pretty efficient. The only negative that I would give this restaurant is that the dessert, which we opted to have to-go, was minimal at best. Thought it tasted good, I feel we got short changed with the amounts given.
My lunch today was the hangar steak frîtes and a cup of potato leek soup. The steak was perfectly medium rare, and the frîtes were hot and flavorful. The potato leek soup was creamy and delicious. My husband had the soupe à l'oignon and a croque monsieur, both of which rivaled any we had in Paris. Service was friendly and cheerful - there was a little hiccup in the timing of serving the onion soup, but it was explained and no harm done. We didn't get dessert this time, but their crème brûlée is to die for. Definitely a place to have on your radar!
Top notch atmosphere, food and service!!
I took my team here for a lunch meeting and we were extremely disappointed with our meals, salad, and dessert.
We drive down from Arlington regularly and always make it a point to eat here. High quality French food is hard to find and this little gem doesn't disappoint. This is a fine dining experience I always look forward to enjoying. Great for special occasions. It's my favorite birthday place.
Best restaurant in Fredericksburg, consistant service and food quality. Excellent deserts too!
Always great food. Sherry is the best
Went here on a date during restaurant week. It's a cute little French place that I DEFINITELY recommended having a reservation for. My date and I chose to order from the event menu, which was fun with the wine pairings. I highly recommend the coffee gelato with the red wine, yum! One of the reasons for 4 stars instead of 5 is they seemed very overwhelmed with the rush of restaurant week. The poor hostess was also trying to help the servers with their tables. Also, I'm not sure I'd return here- it wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. So maybe worth a try, but maybe not during restaurant week.
Hubby and I had a lunch here. The food was delicious and the prices are very reasonable. The sitting atmosphere is for fine dining. Will Definitely come back.
Food was pretty good, but it took 2 hours to have lunch there. If you're planning on staying somewhere to talk all evening, this might be a good fit for you.
The food was delicious. The atmosphere is relaxed and quiet. My husband and I enjoyed our meal!
Excellent choice for our New Year's Eve dinner. Dinner and service excellent.
LaPetite is always top notch! Awesome food, service, and atmosphere.
Food is great and servers are friendly! Elegant place for dining. Quaint bar with wonderful bartenders and live music on weekends.
Good food. Nice restaurant
Very, very good food. The salmon dish was served over an outstanding risotto, with chewy components (mushrooms?) which was a perfect complement to the fish. My wife had the blackened mahi mahi. It was also excellent. And my wife -- who cannot eat hot spice -- found it perfect for her palate. Be forewarned, the salad we ordered was huge -- almost too much even when my wife and I split it. To his credit, when we asked whether the salad was splittable, the waiter strongly encouraged it. Excellent wine recommendation too. We had a glass each. Overall a relatively low price -- under $90 with a healthy tip.
Outstanding experience. Elizabeth O was our waiter. She was awesome. We started with the escargot. Very nice served traditional in butter. I had the French onion soup. Lots of delicious flavor. My wife had the large sea scallops with pancetta. Yum. I had the Scaloppine. Excellent. Served with perfect potato au gratin.
Not really French. Some dishes in were French style. Others were unusual. Fish dishes were good.
Weather Fredericksburg finest go casually into the bar for lunch and get an amazing meal or really go Swank dress up get formal for an amazing meal in the dining room. There's always something fun in the bar after 9.
Always our Fredericksburg favorite: Sherry always takes great care, remembers our preferred wine selection and ...oh the deal cordon bleu and cheesy potatoes..YUM
Good food, great company, white tablecloths, and, for us, inexpensive!
Extraordinary service and amazing food. A treasure in Fredericksburg, VA.
Great food and friendly environment
This used to be the only fancy restaurant in Fredericksburg. Still serving great French cuisine. All fish dishes are excellent.
A great restaurant and wonderful food.
A very special place to dine in Fxbg.... Tom M sends
Great food and even better service!
Just amazing. Quality you can taste. Waiters and waitresses over 40, they treat you with respect and politeness. Prices on point too. Just damn good.
Very disappointed!!! By far the worst visit to La Petite ever. It used to be a gem. Very long wait for the waitress. They couldn't find the bartender as he left the building on a busy Friday night for register paper so very long wait for drinks. Beer bottle was dirty and rusty. She said it would be free but not taken off. The menu prices were wrong so we got overcharged. It is just not worth it anymore. High prices but not professional. There are too many good options in town now. The manager had no interest in helping make things right or better. Food still had good flavor. Good menu options. Maybe that is why it was so easy to get a reservation. Seemed very understaffed. It was sad really. Used to be the best......
I have been here several times. Amazing staff (The best around) By far the food is the best in Fredericksburg. Beautiful Seafood and great sandwiches for lunch. Also the best French Onion Soup & best house dressing of all time.
We have been here several times for happy hour (very worth it) and finally decided to come for dinner. It was also excellent. Server was attentive, wine very good. We ordered the Rockfish and Yellowfin Tuna for dinner. Tomato Auberge and Mushroom soup as an appetizer. The dining room experience is a bit dated in my experience and could be updated. This is not a cozy date night experience. The menu tends to be very seafood heavy at the time of this writing but they do have options. Including a pre fixe. All in all, very good and enjoyable. And a great happy hour!
Wonderful food and service.
Good food and great treatment. Not 5 * due to place decor (bit outdated) and the food. The food is good, not great. Other than that, good place for a nice meal.
Consistently fantastic environment and good. Sherry is an absolute pleasure, and the bar is a wonderful place to relax on quiet evenings
Pricey but worth every penny! Our server was fantastic handles a large group with no issues, food was terrific, save room for the cheese cake and bread pudding...
Steak was over done. I wanted medium
The food and service and always good here.
Service was great
Best restaurant in town!
Amazing. Best bearnese sauce I've ever had.
The service and food were both excellent here! I don't think there was a single item on the menu I wouldn't have tried. The portions were also very reasonable, unlike most places where you might end up overstuffed or with a bunch of leftovers. I recommend not skipping dessert, so save some room for a tasty bite of sweetness too.
The food was great as usual. We enjoyed our 50th anniversary in private room. Just a small group of 14 people. They were very accommodating.
It has a very casual dining area and a more formal one. The assorted smoked fish platter was fabulous. The cheese platter was also very good.
Consistently excellent. Great service. Superior cuisine.
Food is really good but been here twice and all I can say is Rude, Rude and Rude with a side of Rude. The owner is nice, but the staff is not interested in their customers, and when walking in for lunch my wife and I asked if they were still serving lunch at 2 and he very rudely said “what does the door say?” Needless to say I won’t be back. Good food. Bad Service.
Very classy environment as well as food.
Great service and good food.
Great staff and amazing food!
Excellent restaurant, excellent menu choices, excellent service. Nothing more could I ask.
Food was great .Service was very good and fast. Only down side chairs are very uncomfortable and tables small.
My wife and I went today for a early lunch. WOW! What a great place. Everyone was so friendly. We had the poached eggs Benedict, the steak frites and the Grilled Salmon on Baby Arugula with Cannelini Beans, Lemon Aioli. If you know someone who won't eat fish, let them try this dish It's off the charts. Donna who helped us out was great! Everyone there made us feel at home. I'm bringing a group next time. Everyone should have this experience.
Was in the area on business and had dinner at the bar on an unseasonably warm Monday night. La Petite Auberge is a place with a comfortable vibe and a regular clientele - a witty older gentleman named Chuck sat next to me at the bar. La Petite Auberge's pricing is reasonable. Good ambiance and excellent service from Jason the bartender. The salads and sides - scalloped potatoes and sugar snap peas --were excellent. But the roast chicken was underwhelming -- and if you're a French Bistro that's not a good thing. Would I go there again? Yes, but I would order something else.
We had a reservation but had to wait 15 minutes, not a huge problem. We had the prix fixe menu. The starter was very good, and well paired with a white wine. The salad was bland and boring. The entrees were good but the wine pairings are apparently agnostic to which entree you choose so i ended up with a trout with hollandaise and a the same red wine as my companion who had the roast chicken. Dessert course was terrible. The creme brulee didnt seem to be made with vanilla bean and the mouse was pre-made in a cup and obviously had sat in a fridge all day.. It had the cisistency of paste with a poorly piped dollop of whipped cream. Atmosphere was nice. We came for the musical performance and that was great. I would go again but order a la cart next time. We would also certainly skip desserts. If we wanted proper fine dining we would have to go somewhere else.
This is my favorite restaurant in Fredericksburg. The only complaint is that when you order a glass or bottle of wine with your dinner you could be halfway through eating your food before it arrives.
La Petite is my personal favorite on "restaurant row". The food is always perfectly prepared. Service is excellent, especially if you have Wayne in the bar.
The food is good and my boy issac did a good job thank you
Great service. Food was very good. Nice atmosphere.
Wow! Had an outstanding meal last night. Yellowfin tuna on cous cous. Served by Aaron who was brilliant, very knowledgeable on the menu and drinks selection and super friendly. Also great experience from waitress who assisted me with the wheelchair ramp. I have not experienced a meal as good as that for a long time. Top marks thank you
The short ribs I had at 6 p.m. were over cooked by several hours. They did not hold together, instead they were just mushy. The creme brulee is not as good as when I had it the last time, about a year ago. Previously it was the best I had ever tasted, now it is just average. I didn't see any vanilla in it this time, so I am guessing they switched to an extract. The Baked Alaska was burned and singed black instead of a light or golden brown. This gave it a charcoal flavor. The service was okay but not spectacular, the waitress could have been more attentive refilling water.
Great French restaurant !
The food is always fabulous and I especially like to dine there when the weather is conducive to outdoor dining on the sidewalk.
Amazing food. Great for a romantic night out
Wonderful meal and service
Always my favorite go-to place for dinner. Can't say enough about the service, the atmosphere, and the food. Thank you so much for being a staple in Fredericksburg.
Wonderful atmosphere. Lovely artwork and lighting. The food is on point. Their menu doesn't change too much, but it doesn't need to when the items are classics and executed perfectly. The missing star is for service. While everything seems polished, the service is lacking. Understaffed or poorly trained, the result is a wait staff that are friendly but frazzled, poorly organized and oddly absent. Despite this, bring close friends and family intending to enjoy delicious food and atmosphere for a genuinely wonderful nights.
If you a single women avoid this place like the plauge. Front disc brakes for $150.00 with coupon!!!! $60.00 at best.... Avoid this Place!!!!
Truly best cuisine in 100 miles
Really great French cuisine. The salmon was cooked perfectly.
Showed up in sweats, still served me. Nice folk
Really, really good food.
Service needs a tremendous amount of work. Walked in with a reservation, and literally stood at the front desk for roughly 10 minutes and it was NOT busy at all. Our waitress was extremely nice, but not very attentive and forgot things that were ordered. Drinks came out late, had to ask for bread, and the food was mediocre at best. There are a lot of better restaurants in old town than this place.
Veal Scallopini Cordon Bleu is the best dish you can order in Fredericksburg,VA. Period.
Great place. Dover Sole was one of the best I ever had...
First time here. They seem very very understaffed. Maybe they need to hire some bus boys. We waited about 15 mins for the hostess to seat us. Then the food took about 45 minutes. Food was ok. I've had way better French food in Philadelphia. Our server was nice but seemed stressed.
We were there the day after New Year's but were surprised that we were the only people in the place. Food is excellent and the service was superb. A cozy, romantic dining room, decorated with art work from a local artist (who has beautiful work). One of ordered from the fixed price menu and the other from the main menu. We have both beef and fish dishes - all well prepared and delicious. The dessert was wonderful. I would highly recommend to anyone who wants a great meal in downtown Fredericksburg.
Wayne is a good bartender. Sam is a great maitre dee.
Great ambience, good, drink and service.
Only French restaurant in town, but only quasi authentic. Could really use a refresh. Service levels not what they should be, need more staff on duty, they worked really hard but at $30 plates should be much better.
