Went during the lunch rush. Service was friendly but on the slow side. The servers (and probably the kitchen too) were clearly overwhelmed. Dolsot Bibimbap was beyond crispy (Cajun style? See: Black), Doenjang Chigae was unsatisfying along with the Godonguh Gui (Dry AF...!) and the Bibim Naengmyun was left unfinished. I liked the banchan overall but would probably opt for another lunch spot next time.

HanGang restaurant is good in some ways and mediocre in others. The decor is kept kind of dark with textured walls and low lighting throughout. The windows are covered or tinted to help keep light out. The tables and chairs mostly fit everywhere and walking around is not really encumbered by the layout. The food is rather over priced for what your getting. It's not that its bad food but a lot of the plates cost more than they should for simple meat\kimchi and vegetables. The seafood is one of their better options to explore some higher end dishes. Unfortunately if your not Korean the staff does make some assumptions by default. It's ultimately not a problem just a kind of oddity.

I love that the hood is in table and I don't smell like grilled meat after my dinner. The food tastes good except for the sweet yellow thingie they served before meal, that tastes similar to butter squash. I don't know what it is. Han Gang is the best Korean restaurant in Northern Virginia. There used to be others that were as good or better in quality and authenticity, but they have all closed. Quality and cleanliness is why we go to this restaurant. They used to use MSG, but now they have almost completely removed MSG from their dishes. The hostess/manager tries her best to accommodate and make sure that your experience is a good one. ----- Update: the lettuce used for wrapping Korean BBQ last night must not have been washed very well - gave me a bad case of Montezuma's revenge - albeit in a Korean restaurant. The last time I was here, the flavor was disappointing. Especially given the price point. You're better off going to Annangol for their rib.
