Very slow service, but I the food was very good Updated April 18. We tried the Green onion again because the food was good even through the service was slow. They outdid themselves today. We walked out after not getting any service. We had a reservation and sat 20 minutes without a server. The restaurant had open tables and most people already had food. There is no way it will should take 20 minutes for a drink order. This place has potential but is managed beyond poorly. I would recommend staying clear of this place.

Attention EVERYONE! This was my first time here and JULIE took such amazing care of our party that we have to come back! The service was absolutely perfect. The food was decadent. The wine was great. I love Green Onion. The food is lovely, original, fresh. The service is everything it should be and more- prompt, welcoming, professional, and just plain kind. My husband and I always seem to be rushing ourselves to make a movie on time, but it’s never been a challenge for Randy and Co. to serve us with a smile, and quickly. But the best thing about the Green O is the original and fresh food. Dining there is a treat. It’s an oasis. Such a great experience! Service was fantastic, our hostess was welcoming and our server was funny! We just so happened to be there on a Wednesday which was all you can eat mussels... Whoa. We started with a cheese plate and I wish I could have tried them all! they have a tasty variety to choose from. I couldn't eat more than half of the mussels and although they were a little lacking in flavor, they were cooked perfectly. The wine was also discounted till 7PM with a great selection. I will definitely be back to try more of their options and more weekly deals.

Located in the heart of the Greening of Ghent festivities!! Popped right in after the bands played, got seated and had a wonderful meal. Customer service was fast and friendly. Bar seating, tables for groups and some cool sofa seating for a group of friends and cocktails. The lobster rolls are delicious....highly recommend Green Onion.

Delicious food, always. The staff is excellent, polite, knowledgeable and timely. The prices are a little steep at times, but for the most part I dont mind paying. The wine selection is a bit space but the wines available are good. The peach sangria is delicious. French press coffee is available in regular and decaf. Deserts to die for.

Food was great but the restaurant is too small. Tables aren't spaced out enough. Didn't enjoy the experience because we were seated too close to others. My advice would be to seat parties at every other table to get a little privacy while enjoying the meal and be able to have a conversation without being able to hear every single word of the party sitting next to you.

The cheese and wine selection here is always amazing. This time I had the tomato bisque (phenomenal) and the goat cheese salad (incredible) plus the peach sangria which was surprisingly good. I highly recommend this place. Plus the staff is always highly knowledge and wonderfully friendly.

The food was delectable, the service was great, and the atmosphere was inviting. The music playlist was absolutely amazing! They have a nice, covered patio for dining as well. We decided to eat inside, because it was about to rain. The only disappointment was they were out of pork chops. They made up for it with the tasty lamb chops.

Years ago the green onion was great. It has really gone down hill. It smells awful the moment u walk in, there were no guests and it was 3:30 so it wasn't food cooking. All of my party smelled it, smells like a dirty moldy bar. The place is filthy, patio dirty. The floor of patio is black with grease.

Had a good experience here. The staff was friendly, our waiter was very nice and attentive. We had the steak and shrimp and grits. I was worried about the shrimp and grits being too spicy (after trying their crab dip which was a little too spicy) and the waiter told me if thats what i wanted he would tell the cooks to make it mild and if i didn't like it he would bring me something else. It came out and was delicious, and my boyfriends steak was the most tender steak i have ever had....ever. My only complaint was that we ordered the crab dip, and although it was a large amount, i didn't taste the crab as much, it was mainly too much spice and cheese. The bread that accompanied it was soaked in butter/oil and too crispy. I did not complain but if i had im sure they would have made it right. It could have been a smaller portion and less cheese to crab ratio with better bread. Overall the food was tasty, the wine was good, and the server nice.

The french toast was soggy and infused with some sort of outer layer of cinnamon whicg overpowered the dish. The sausage was cooked all the way through but in my opinion it could have benefitted from a few more minutes on the grill. Service was good, our server Erin was present, helpful, and I appreciated the fact that he had a friendly atitude without being overbearing or seeming to act insincerely excited that we were there. The restaurant was beautiful as well, a cozy small room with french decor and ample natural light. In short, the food was very didappointing but the ambiance was superb.

It's good, but I wouldn't call it great. It's probably the most "upscale" place on Colley but I don't think it's the best. They have good all you can eat oysters on Wednesday. I did go one time with a group and a lot of us got the steak but had the common complaint that it was a little flavorless and had lots of fat depots in it.

Wow, blown away by the unprofessionalism of this establishment. I purchased a groupon voucher and was excited to try the restaraunt out with my family Prior to arriving, i checked the menu to ensure they would have food their according to my diet, which is vegetarian. I arrived at 9pm, in which apparantly they give you a totally different menu called "small plate". Its essentially appetizers and is not inclusive for kids. Wish i had known that ahead of time. Nothing on the modified menu was catered to my eating habits. Upon walking in, we were not greeted and had to seat ourselves. There was only one other couple at the bar, so it's not as if it were a busy night. The staff intentionaly made no effort to be hospitable. We waited for several minutes before finally being approached by a waitress. Immediately it was obvious she was intoxicated. When asking about the menu, she slurred in her speech and was unable to describe one of the dishes....she couldn't think of the word "grilled cheese sandwich". As she was walking away, she was stumbling in her stride. While waiting for our food she went to the bar and kissed all over a gentlemen, who i assume was her boyfriend. When she brought out my dish, she nearly dropped it and when she brought out my boyfriend's dish she DID. She spilled the bucket of mussels all over the table and broke our glasses. Mussel juice was all over my boyfriend's clothes. I know for certain her clumsiness was due to her being drunk. We declined a second bucket of mussels and left. No manager came out to rectify the situation. I don't think the manager was present at the shift. The whole restaurant seemed to have been ran by one drunken waitress and kitchen staff. Disappointed is an understatement!!

I'm really sad to write this review since everything was so promising but I wasn't impressed. We got the mussels, spinach salad with grilled steak, and shrimp and grits. The shrimp and grits were delicious and extremely rich but great comfort food. Now on to why I gave them two stars. First, our waiter was not attentive and unable to grasp the what gluten free meant. I specifically mentioned that I have an allergy and my salad came out with breaded and fried goat cheese. The mussels were extremely gritty. The flavor was good but it came with a side of sand. The salad, once it came out, was advertised as having crandberries but instead had raisons. The steak was cooked well but honestly Trader Joe's makes a better spinach salad. The ambiance was relaxing and the manager was super accommodating however I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone until something changes.

We had an excellent mother's day brunch! The restaurant was pretty quiet when we arrived. The food was amazing! We all had different meals...the scramble, the omellete, two different versions, the corned beef hash made from scratch was amazing, the pancakes were to die for! The service was on point! We were quickly seated, our server Cathy was very attentive, had our drinks and coffees on the table in moments. She was very helpful with the menu questions we had. She complemented each choice we made. The kitchen was on point with the timeliness of each dish. As we rounded out our meals the plates were quickly removed (dirty plates is one of my personal pet peeves). Desserts were offered but we all had been satisfied by our meal choices that we declined the creme brulle' and other options which all sounded amazing! The checks were pretty accurately split and delivered. As the crowds began to increase for mothers day brunches we made our way out. The timing...the food...the service all were the best we could ever ask for! Thank you The Green Onion staff for the most painless and intimate mothers day brunch this family has had in years!

PROS: The food was excellent, freshly made. Cocktails are excellent. One of the better martini bars in Hampton Roads Server and Host were very polite and accommodating. CONS: The food is a bit pricey. Entrees we're approx $16-25. Plates were small for the price. Decor and layout were lacking. Not sure if they're going for a "rustic/chic" look, or if it was being remodeled. Just simply doesn't match the quality and price of their offering. Menu is quite small. They do have a spectrum to choose from, but I believe they only had 10-12 entrees. All-in-all, it was a good experience. I wouldn't recommend this place for a date. Maybe for a party of four or so. The food is excellent. Just be ready to pay. And don't be picky!

Not what we were expecting. We walked in to a very loud atmosphere. So loud the waiter had to practically yell. Our waiter was Matthew and he was very attentive. I had the shrimp and grits which was very tasty with 6 or so nice sized shrimp. However grits were not creamy but hard round lumps if I can call them that...not quite sure of any other way. I've had this dish before...my son makes it and the grits have always been creamy. Although this dish was very tasty I would not order it again. My husband had the TGO burger and he wasn't impressed. Given the loud atmosphere and the 2 dishes we ordered we didn't love we won't be going back.

The steak was tough, the homemade ketchup is something that gradually tastes better when you eat it, the soap tasted like they just opened a can of spaghetti sauce and put it in the bowl, and lastly, the bread would possibly be the most delicious item on there if it wasn't so doughy.

The waitstaff was super friendly and on top of things in terms of clearing and checking in. We went for date night and started with 2 drinks, crab dip, and platter with cheese and meat. The crab dip was excellent, and it was a large portion! We only got 1 cheese and 1 meat that we chose but the board was still full of other things that you typically find on a charcuterie board. For dinner we had Lamb and Bouillabaisse. It was FANTASTIC! The price point was high, but it was well worth it. The ONLY complaint i had was that it was super hot and there was no air flow, but I probably could've said something and gotten moved to a cooler spot or something. I would definitely go back there for special occasion, and reccomend it for anyine looking for a good dinner at an upscale yet still casual restaurant

Green Onion is a small restaurant. A large group of us went on Saturday early afternoon so the place was pretty empty. They we're very efficient with taking our orders and delivering to our table. French press coffee was nice but wish I could've got it more robust (French Roast should be dark). Very generous food portions. I had the French toast with poached eggs, prosciutto, spinach & side of bacon. The prosciutto turned out to be ham. Disappointing but it was okay because everything went well together, it was delicious. The server was nice, she took a few pictures of our group. They were able to give us all separate checks (we were a really big group). Everything was great until one of the ladies saw there was a bug on her salad plate. It kind of looked like the bug flew in from an open door and landed on the rim of her plate before they served it. She took it up to the owner but came back with the same plate minus the bug. She didn't eat it. The reason why I gave it 2 stars instead of 5 was the way the owner handled the situation. He never apologized, he never offered to make another salad, never offered to give her a discount, nothing...just kinda had an "oh well" attitude.

Great location in the trendy Norfolk Ghent area. A nice setting including the option for a semi-outdoor sitting. The food and wine list are both well above average in terms of sofistication... wich of course also affects the check. All together, however, a pleasant experience. We have been, and remain, return customers at the Green Onion.

Service was excellent and food was very good. We went during the afternoon and split 2 of the small plates and a cheese board. The crab dip was very good with nice sized lumps of crab and just a hint of spice. The Irish potato nachos were also very good. The fried potatoes had a nice coating and great flavor. All the toppings and the sauce complemented each other nicely.

Good food overall. We had a Groupon which made it seem more like a price I was willing to pay. The decor was a bit of a mishmash. My particular dish had béarnaise sauce on it but let me tell you, it most certainly was NOT béarnaise sauce. But otherwise the food was good. Might return but only with another Groupon.

The leg quarter entree was ordered, however we only received a leg. When asked the waiter asked the chef. Who replied that was a leg quarter.!! How is that a leg quarter and the thigh portion was missing ??
