Had a Cuban sandwich and Cuban coffee. Absolutely the best I've ever had! Coffee had a bite, but the sweetness at a medium was perfect! Slow roasted pork was flavorful and the use of real stone ground mustard and garlic aioli was absolutely delicious! Looking for Cuban style in a low key environment? You have to check this place out!
We were visiting DC and stayed a few blocks from Colada and decided to try it out the first morning we were in town. We loved it so much we came back every morning for coffee and pastries! We went in the spring and the weather was perfect. The shop had all of the windows open and you could sit by the window and enjoy the fresh air and the easygoing atmosphere!
Let’s start from the foods here: the two sandwiches I had here made me forget about all the cuban sandwiches I had eaten before. Its taste is completely another level. So I would say that this is kind of a place where you would be willing to go even only for the foods. What’s stunning about this place is that other things—beyond the foods and drinks—are all exceptional as well. Such a cool ambiance, lovely service and a lot of seating availabilities with variety.
Nice place. Good happy hour
The drinks here are impeccable. Best Cuban sándwich in DC, easily. It's a small place on the first floor, but that's supplemented by patio seating and a roof deck.
Cafe Con leche is so good! Make sure you go with Miami sweet
Amazing food and cocktails! The mushroom empanadas are divine.
Excellent Cuban sandwiches and coffee. Very authentic place with great outdoor and rooftop seating. Very good and fast for lunch and larger groups.
This place is adorable! Great food and drinks, the line moves really fast, pleasant staff.
nice selection of craft cocktails and very tasty empanadas. happy hour you get $2 off cocktails and empanadas are only $2. Great price for a quick stop after leaving the office. Nice patio and open air seating with music playing.
An adorable coffee shop with delicious drinks, sandwiches, and desserts. A visit here feels like a little trip to Cuba!
The Colada Shop is as authentic as Cuba Libre. I was excited to try out this cute Cuban-inspired cafe featuring cool cocktails and hearty sandwiches, but was underwhelmed by the poor quality of the food and grumpy service. The vibrant photos of the food featured on the website and posters inside the shop couldn't be more misleading. The snacks looked sad and droopy sitting in the glass display and buried inside drawers that the staff pulled out to deep fry. It was appalling to watch as I was reminded of when Dunkin Donuts pulls out patties for their breakfast sandwiches. Those empanadas and balls didn't look fresh! I'm glad I ate beforehand. The service was really standoffish and as unwelcoming as the food. No one cracked a smile and didn't hear please or thank you once. I wasn't a big fan of the tangy Babalu passionfruit and rum cocktail with poppyseeds sprinkled on top. The best part about the shop was tucked away in the back with comfy sofas and vibrant high chairs that made you forget that you were in DC and escaped to Cuba. If I'm in the area, I would consider giving the shop a 2nd chance to try the signature Pina Colada. But with Jubilee right next door, I love my dessert!
It’s a very intimate setting. Cafe con leche is very consistent since they measure their sugar drop with a scale which I personally really appreciate. It can be very busy tho especially on hot summer weekend
The media noche Cuban sandwich was delicious!!
Was pleasantly surprised! The sandwiches were hot, delicious and properly crafted.
By far the best coffee I've ever had in my entire life. I highly recommend this place to anyone that likes coffee.
Reminded me of Cuban food from South FL... Lots of fun great atmosphere....
Good empanadas. The Churros are not the best, though.
It is Great Drinks, food and they even have dog treats for the dogs And the roof top garden its very nice I enjoy that place a lot
Good Cuban coffee, but very overpriced.
Average Cuban with poor service. Sandwich was pulled out of a cooler and put on a grill (not made fresh). Croquetas were cold and the re-fried them to heat them up. I would not recommend.
A sad excuse of a Cuban eatery. This restaurant wannabe does not remotely do justice to our culinary repertoire. The owner needs to go to Miami and learn a little from real Cuban restaurants.
A gem of a café tucked away in the U Street corridor area - the music, the atmosphere, and the service are terrific, and on a sunny day, the outdoor patio and rooftop really make it special. I've come here to do work on my laptop (there is free Wi-Fi for customers) and catch up with friends, and have felt it to be accommodating for both kinds of visits. The Cuban coffees are rich and delicious, and they do have seasonal lattes and other inspired drinks. $6 cocktails at happy hour (and $2 empanadas, also very good if you want a quick, savory bit) are amazing, considering how high quality they are. (Hemingway daiquiri & Carajillo pictured) I highly recommend Colada Shop if you're looking for unique flavors to brighten up your day!
Great Cuban Sandwich. Great service. And that little window seat is the perfect place to spend a pretty day with good food:)
Great space with one of the few dog friendly patios in DC. be careful what coffee drinks you order if you're not familiar with Cuban coffee. The colada will knock your socks off. there is a large upstairs seating area that you might miss if you did not know it was there.
Hard working staff put out a nice range of drinks and snacks in a welcome summery vibe. A pleasant stop off point to start a night on the U St corridor or on the way through to 17th St. It's a spot for somewhat cramped fun, but 'Cuban' is a stretch
If you’re looking for authentic, flavorful, yet simple Cuban classics, look no further than Colada Shop. Everything about the location pays homage to Cuban culture, tradition, and style in ways that are far above the rest. The flavors behind the food are simple yet delicious and packed with taste. The drinks and coffee selections are excellent. Colada is a little slice of Havana right in the nation’s Capitol and it does not disappoint.
Chill spot with awesome rooftop patio, great service, and of course, amazing coladas :)
So cute!!! Very close to metro, super nice baristas, wifi, cool Cuban vibe, SUPER fun music, and (from what I've tried) delicious coffee... Will be coming back!!
This place looks small but has great outdoor seating areas (patio+rooftop). I came here with a bunch of friends around 10 people and perfectly fit in patio. We got cappuccinos, latte, iced black coffee, churros, salted crispy plantains, mojitos. Service was top notch since every staff was so friendly. The place was super clean and well decorated. I love this cute place and definitely will come back.
Colada is the best thing to happen to DC in a long time! Great food, great drinks, great coffee, great people, great atmosphere, great music, and great vibe! This place does not disappoint. Love it! Please open up another spot on the SW Waterfront.
Cool interior. Food is casual, filling and tastes excellent.
Great place. Great food. Wonderful staff! Will arrange a family dinner there soon.
Great drinks. Seems to always be packed
I like the guava pastries. The rest of the food is meat-heavy. Also I can never get mobile data service in this place. Maybe they want you to use the Wi-Fi only.
Little gem! Absolutely loved the cuban sandwich. Great food, great cocktails and a lovely place to take a break, especially when you can get a good spot at the indoor/outdoor bar.
Delicious Pina Coladas and other cocktails, flavorful empanadas. Definitely a good vibe. Considerable downside when we went was unconscious staff. One of the guys didn’t know how to open a bottle of wine and they were very slow to make the other cocktails. Didn’t get much energy from any of them. Just kind of a sedated vibe. Overall you should check it out.
A bit pricey for the portions, but what else is new in DC. All the empanadas are soooo good! They're all fried so if you're looking for baked, you'll have to find somewhere else to go The staff is friendly, and the bright colors and outdoor seating make eating here a pleasure. Likely gonna be back.
Asked for a plastic cup because I was with my handsy one year old and noted I was afraid he'd break it at the low table and hurt himself. The young lady said "that's not how we make them." Seemingly an issue with intention to leave with an alcoholic drink. Legally not their issue of course. She assured me that they had a first aid kit on site? Seems a great representation of the service.
This place has fantastic food and drinks. For an authentic taste of Cuba, do not miss their 'Cuban Sandwich'.
Food was so good! The drinks were strong & the rooftop is an experience you don't wanna miss!
Great vibes, and super well kept
Great coffee, pastry and service! Amazing rooftop, will return!
Cute spot with good food and drinks! Super casual but bright and fun. The rooftop is so relaxing
Fantastic coffee in a lovely environment! I adore this place.
Their veggie cuban is top notch
Great coffee and treats!
Great food and as fresh as it gets, great quality, great prices, cute shop.
It's like a slice of Miami's Calle Ocho come to DC. The vibe is totally Cuban with the music and the indoor/outdoor counter seating. The cafe is great and the eats are outstanding. A fun, yummy place to hang out in.
Red-heated food, overpriced The sandwiches are made the morning of and they reheat them before serving. The bread wasn't toasted, just warm. The plantain chips are also way overpriced, you can get them cheaper at the Trader Joe's next door.
Drinks were alright but the view was neat! Also used the Passport Program to get the 2 for 1 deal.
So far, we have enjoyed the cocktails we've ordered here. Curiously, I haven't ordered their signature piña colada yet! Maybe next time!
This place has a cool atmosphere along with quick bites. We walked over for breakfast as commuters stopped by on their way to work. We walked in with some Latin beats playing, the smell of coffee upon entry at the door, and the cooks behind the counter getting the lunch menu prepared. We ordered a little taste of just about everything, since it was our last day in DC and the US for a short while. I wish I could have this every morning.
Ambiance was nice. It was very crowded. I dont like Cuban food generally so I only had the guava pastry but my friends ate more food than I did and enjoyed it. The nightclub attached to it was very nice.
I was impressed! The drinks are delicious and while I didn't order food, it looked tempting. We showed up with our kids. They were fine, but it wasn't really an area or location designed with families in mind. Prices were fair and staff were friendly. Homie making drinks was a true artisan.
Delicious empanadas and croquetas with a cup of cafe Cubano enjoyed outside on the Terraza. The line for this place was oit the door but service was friendly fast and efficient. I was just visiting dc and out for a walk, the place was a little jewel on our route. Some customers had already fired up some mojitos in the bar which also looked delicious. Great stop for a lazy Saturday morning. Highly recommend.
The coffee was good, the service was top notch and the ambiance was cozy and authentic....
Friendly cashier & good coffee.
Great coffee and pastelitos!
Nice place to grab a coffee (or cocktail) and catch up with friends. Empanadas are on point and good HH cocktails. Will be back soon!
Seating can be hard to find when the weather is nice but the rooftop is totally worth it.
Amazing place for a rooftop celebration. Terrific staff. Thanks to the whole crew for making our event so spectacular.
Underrated shop — I love everything about the vibe of this place. It has good coffee, good bites to eat (chicken empanada is my fave), and a laid back atmosphere/decor. The kind of place I would take out of town guests to for a Cuban coffee or cocktail
Cute vibe. Got caught in the rain and this offered the perfect spot to wait it out. This cuban spot is perfect for a small plate of food and very good and interesting drinks. I had the babalu which had this wonderful warm flavor. It was great I highly recommend it. Also tried the banana leaf chips. Very good! Thursday nights is Havana nights with $2 empanadas and $6 cocktails. Really good but I probably wouldn't see me drinking more than one or two drinks here. If the goal is to get a good buzz going and call it a night with out getting I a crowded space this might be your spot!
Great food, awesome & patient staff, a great open atmosphere. A perfect quick eat on a beautiful day.
Amazing Cuban sandwiches! However very hard to find a seat and gets really crowded on the weekends. Guess that shows how delicious their food/drinks are!
Cool rooftop and yummy food. Tasty drinks too.
This place is definitely a hidden gem! My friend introduced me to this place and I am very glad that she did. We just came here for a quick drink. This place is so cute! Great ambiance and great set-up. I dont remember the cocktail I ordered but I was impressed to even have this option at a shop like this! I also got the churros which were amazing, but it does take a wait to make them. The rooftop is so beautiful so that definitely added to my experience. It it definitely a cute HH spot, a place for a first date, a meet up spt...etc.
Delicious coladas and other rum drinks. Good stop in the 14th Street area
Amazing sandwiches, drinks, and coffees. And the rooftop is my absolute favorite for a summer day.
Cool atmosphere and delicious drinks. Outdoor patio is great!
Colado Shop is a small café with a range of teas, coffees, and Latin American cocktails and a small menu of Cuban pastries and sandwiches. The namesake Colado Shop Cuban sandwich pictured here is a perfect combination of high-quality ham, turkey, pickles, and mustard. Worth a stop!
The give a nice variety of South American coffees which are unusual to find in the US. It was definitely fantastic if you like your coffee sweet.
Fabulous empanadas and drinks. I also love the veggie Cuban sandwich. Great vibe, check it out.
Extremely well-priced drinks for the taste/quality and good food as well. Definitely recommend coming to their HHs and definitely check out their cute rooftop. There's also a location in Sterling, which has better parking.
Other than small portion of their deserts, they get 5 stars!
Great drinks, food and environment. I would recommend it as a place to eat or enjoy happy hour. They have a great roof deck with a beautiful view and comfortable seating. Come at 4 and happy hour is on the roof. The food is amazing and cheap during happy hour. Get the empanadas!
Coffee was unique and very good and the sandwiches were decent but a little too expensive.
The croquetas and empanadas here are to die for. They have a good selection of sandwiches and drinks too. The place seems small but there's additional seating in the back and they have a patio that's perfect for drinks in the summer. Definitely coming back.
is ok.. the drinks are expensive and they are small sizes and the empanadas are not that good.
Can you say heaven? I never want to leave. The empanadas and piña coladas are out of this world!!!! We stumbled upon this place and SHUT THE FRONT DOOR. Amazing! A MUST in DC. MUST.
Good atmosphere and okay prices. Their empanadas were fine but not as good as you can get from any of the Salvadoran restaurants around, and their drinks were pretty weak.
Small sandwich shop with great beverage selection! Staff is extremely cheerful and quick to make your order. My Cuban sandwich was delicious and Pina colada made me think I was on vacation. It is like a taste of the islands in the heart of DC. Only downside is that there is very limited seating inside so I'd recommend going off-peak times.
Restaurant with a fun atmosphere, lots of outdoor seating, good prices, and quick eating. Food is Cuban themed and operates with a walk-up counter service. Food was okay, but don't go for sit-down restaurant quality meals. Great for the price. Fun restaurant and bar for any time of day.
Such a nice cafe with a wonderful cute work / chill area in the back. Amazing vibe and even better coffee!
The pork was off and made me I'll. I wish it were not true. This place looks the part and sounds the part but the pork sandwich is.better in Silver Spring. The tea was good and I will return to hang out in the patio upstairs. It reminded me of my years in the Caribbean. They nailed the whole vibe. The bathrooms were spotless. Food not there today. I will try again.
It's a cute place. The space is small but nicely decorated. It is a bit over hyped. I feel like I overpaid for my drinks and the craftsmanship was subpat at best. They really need to make sure these are semi-perfect if they wish to charge the price that they do.
I cannot say enough positive things about the Colada Shop! Charming decor, speedy and cordial service, and a welcoming environment are just the beginning of what makes this one of my favorite spots in the city. Whatever time of day, there is a meal and a drink for you! Coffee and pastries in the morning, sandwiches in the afternoon and all of the above and some delightfully strong drinks in the evening will have you coming back for more! I highly recommend the Cuban sandwich, but there is no wrong choice here. Enjoy!
I got the cafe con leche, churros con chocolate, and tried some of my friend's spinach and cheese empanada. Everything was incredibly delicious. The churros were perfect, with the chocolate being a perfect compliment rather than overpowering as can often happen. I cannot wait to go back and try the rest of the menu!
This is honestly the cheapest happy hour in DC that i have liked. Great drinks, low prices. And their food? Delish.
This place has a super cool vibe, unfortunately it is a bit small. Wasn't positive how the split levels work. I believe food and frozen drinks are on the ground level with the restaurant type area, and then on the roof is beer and adult capri sun poches. The roof was awesome and the drinks were great!
How have I not reviewed this place already. It's the best cubano I've found in DC. The coffee is also top notch. Bright airy space and you can sit at the counter overlooking T St. It's a great place and I highly recommend it.
Love the drinks and snacks. The rooftop is now open and is the perfect place for some drinks and mingling.
Nice Cuban inspired coffee place. Their Cuban coffee and coladas are not exactly the Cuban/Miami experience, but they are as close as I have found in DC. Very friendly staff and reasonable prices for the neighborhood.
Fun spot with a cool roof & solid HH!
The rooftop is a summer hidden gem - Recommend that you come 20 minutes early if you want a good spot as it fills up quickly. Cuban sandwiches and coffee’s were delis. Piña colada‘s were strong
Do yourself a favor and drink your coffee at the big window counter top in the front of the shop. Life will immediately slow down around you as you take in the amazing decor.
How can a place called colada shop run out of pina coladas so often!
Great place. Relaxed. Open all day. Great for coffee and breakfast. A lunch sandwich. Or even a cocktail in the evening.
Mojito was 80% rum with some mint leaves. My girl got a pina colada and it was like drinking fruit loops with alcohol.
Worst. Colada. Ever. It was practically sour, also $4...way over priced. Real authentic Cuban coffee much more rich and cheaper...over priced croquetas. Relocated here from Miami and was looking forward to some good Cuban coffee and snacks but this was a serious let down. Music and ambience was it’s only saving grace.
Love Colada! They have a back room and it's always empty, perfect for a romantic date over rum cocktails. Try turning Hotel Nacionel! It's their best drink.
Moody employees make you want to leave
Mojitos are delightful
This place is really cute. Cocktails are all fun and the empanadas were addictive
Cuban sandwiches on point. Service can be slow, but food & drinks are great when you get them
Great coffee, the brownie is fudgey and amazing. Nice staff! Will come back to check out the rest of the menu and the rooftop.
This place is great! Very Miami in feel. Get the Piña Colada and the Cuban Sandwich!
my favorite spot with the best pastelitos
This place reminds me of a Miami cafe. The drinks were great, the service was fast. Had a great time.
our breakfast place. good.u will like it
Love this place. Coffee, adult beverages, and food all are fantastic. Staff are friendly and area is always clean.
Excellent happy hour and food
Visited the cafe last Saturday and left extremely disappointed. It was ridiculously expensive, the Cuban sandwich was the worse I have ever had ( they are not made with pulled pork but with Sliced leg of pork). It should not yr be considered Cuban food.
So this lil place is poppin! I had this place on my list for a couple of weeks. Made it in today and there were plenty of people. Some you could tell were probably regulars and the newbies like me. When you go to a new place, you gotta try all the good things right! I got the Shop Colada Cuban...yum!!!! The churros with chocolate are made fresh but they are soooooo sweet. Probably because I don't do sugar too often. The latte was pure. Highly recommend it. Easy walk from U St. Metro.
This place has the best coffee by far! The beans have a chocolatey aroma and taste and they have a good selection of pastries. There is outdoor seating towards the front that is perfect for socializing (my favorite) and indoor seating in the back that is good for reading, chilling, or studying. I have seen that they have happy hour and drinks, but I tend to stick to a late morning coffee and light snack. The Cuban ambiance and coffee quality make it the best coffee on 14th - that said I cannot speak to the evening cocktail vibe.
Was packed upstairs when I went in, nice vibe though. Bar attendent seems to have no help and runs around trying to get supplies. Food is great drinks are great, when they get made. People downstairs in the actual cafe are nice also.
Drinks were fantastic - croquettes not so much.
Amazing cafe cubano and mojo pork!! Highly recommend this place. Such great service too!!
Delicious Cuban bites and great drinks. The piña coladas are amazing (though I’m not fond of toasted coconut). It’s a cute restaurant and it’s usually busy around happy hour time during the week.
Cute rooftop garden!
I absolutely loved this coffee shop! I went here to visit DC for a weekend and made sure I ate here twice before I left! Moreover, the iced café con leches along with Cuban sandwich was definitely enjoyable and remarkable. My time here is excellent, highly recommended.
Such warm friendly staff and personally my favorite place in DC for amazing Coldbrew coffee. The absolute best. My only issue is i want a much larger size cup but that's just how much I enjoy their coffee
Adorable! The empanadas are incredible, so tired of being a vegetarians and being excluded from Cuban cuisine. Love this place.
Always the best. Love empanadas. Piña coladas. Everything is amazing.. and great service.
Normally a great spot with great mojitos but today their mojitos were terrible! Media noche sandwiches are delicious
Adorable coffee shop off of U/14th st. They have nice open-air seating and offer a pick-up orders menu and have a back area that can be reserved for private events.
Cute little shop that’s great for coffee and dessert.
Went for the spinach and egg white breakfast sandwich which almost fell apart when I unraveled the wrapping- the bread was soggy and the spinach/egg white sort of lumped together unevenly. Perhaps their coffee is the redeeming factor because it sure isn’t their breakfast.
High-traffic, high-energy brunch. Avocado tostada was excellent. Patio and direct interior can get congested; seating at the rear of the space is much more comfortable with room to utilize a laptop, etc.
The ambiance of the place invites you in only to leave you underwhelmed. I've been on multiple occasions and the service can be hit or miss. The empanadas and pastries are very good, but better if you take them to go.....The inside is ALWAYS cold when they re-heat in the shop.
I'm glad I finally got a chance to try this place! It's a small spot, so I would avoid it during rush times, but for a weekday evening bite, it was a great choice. Most of their options are more snacks than actual meals, but they are really affordable, so you can order enough to fill you up. The food was tasty. We had different kinds of empanadas and churros and it was all good - hot, crispy, and flavorful. We also enjoyed the drinks. They weren't as strong as I prefer, but they were also affordable enough to grab a couple and they tasted great. The one downfall of this place is the wait time. I guess they cook everything to order and can't do many orders at a time, so we had to wait forever for our food, which was unexpected, given the format of the place. Like over twenty minutes for a couple of orders of empanadas and churros. And they do have those little restaurant buzzers, so it would have been fine if we could have gotten one, gone to sit down and had a drink while we waited. But for some reason, the cashier wouldn't give us one, so we had to stand at the counter the whole time, waiting for them to call our order. It was so annoying and really tarnished what would have been an otherwise perfect visit. But besides that, it was a good time. I'd definitely come back, this time armed with a hefty dose of patience. And a buzzer!
Fantastic food and drinks, four stars only because it is never open past like 8pm.
The breakfast cubano is fantastic.
Decent coffee and empanadas. The service was mediocre. The prices were moderate; expect to pay at least $3 for coffee. Indoor seating was sparse. After I asked for coffee with light ice, I got coffee with NO ice, which left me with a negative impression.
Cool place. Delicious food
Great Cuban sandwich, and fire churros and chocolate. "The coffee was good." - my dad
Nice rooftop patio.
What can i say? I'm very seriously considering taking the Metro all the way down to this part of DC just to get the empanadas again...so cheap, so filling, and so. fricking. delicious. I'm not one for most Latin cuisines but the dipping sauce--a green goddess, maybe--i could probably drink it. I've been trying to remake it and i can't seem to get it right. Do you think they'll sell me a bottle?
Amazing place. Delicious food! Especially their Churros
A Havana themed date spot
Great cafe, we went there for the rooftop bar and patio area. They have seating inside and out. They serve sandwiches empandadas, and great mojitos. (Unfortunately its only cafe type choices, they do not have the usual cuban plates) still a great lunch or drink spot.
When you walk in the store is bright and beautiful. Roof top is very calm and fun for any HH nights you may have but you can also just sit in the back with a coffee and get some work done. The girls behind the counter are very friendly. I had a nice conversation with two girls in training who made a delicious cocktail for me. Will definitely be coming back when it warms up
Great cuban coffee. The place is great. So great that is always full.
This place is a brilliant gem of right off the 14th St corridor. Coffee and empanadas are delicious and affordable. Service is great and atmosphere is festive. Check out the roof top if you get a chance!
Great vibe and killer drinks! Definitely recommend this place for a small group of friends or to catch up with someone. IG: dailylifeoftraveleats
I dislike that you MUST login to Facebook to access the Guest Wi-Fi (on top of using their Wi-Fi password). Also, do not believe their prices. The sign in their display case for empanadas lists "3 for 7 (dollars)", as does the actual MENU. However, despite my protests, the cashier refused to honor the 3 empanadas for $7 as advertised, instead charging the $2.75 for each of the 3 empanadas.
Good coffee and snacks
