Great burger, we shared a burger and a salad. Our kids had the mini. These are huge burgers
It was a good place to hang out, our waitress was nice and she gave us great service and of course the burgers were pretty good.
Great meal. Really hit the spot. Can't wait to return. Great atmosphere and choice
I think by this point I have been the nearly every burger joint in RVA and CBB hands down is the best. Definitely recommend their onion rings to fans and be warned the cheese fry appetizers are pretty much an entree all on their own.
This is a very cool place. They make their food from local sources and everything is very fresh. The prices are a little steep, but it is different when you know you are paying for good food. The burgers are very customizable. The fries are made fresh and are extremely delicious. They also have a wide selection of beers from mostly local breweries. They have outdoor patio seating.
I was really hungry going to this place. Quality of burger was ok. My burger was really salty and didn’t have any other flavor. I let the bartender know. I didn’t get anything offered. Service was poor. Bartender barely checked on us. Whenever I could get his attention, I made sure to ask for everything I needed but he seemed to have an attitude for being asked. Still tipped great. Just won’t be coming back here again.
I ordered my burger no pink. Came to me all pink(no biggie, honest mistake). They offered to remake the burger (again no biggie). The fries were amazing by the way. The burger came back, I cut it half still a bit pink. I bit into The Nastiest Burnt Burger Ever!!. The outside of it was black! They never remade the burger, just took the patty off the bun and placed it back on the grill. That was so unsanitary!! Everyone touched the original burger with their bare hands. The manager offered to make it right but I was a bit disgusted with the 1st remake of the burger. I didn't want a chance of getting sick on the 2nd remake of my burger. I justed wanted to leave. I told the manager don't worry about making another burger. I will just pay for the fries. Again the manager was trying to make it right offered gift certificates and no charge for tasty fries. I refused the gift certificates and left.
Excellent burgers. The beef is genuinely top quality, as are all of the toppings. The appetizers are excellent as well. The staff is knowledgeable, very friendly, and just really outstanding. The patio is a plus, so is the beer selection, with a little bit of something for everyone, without being completely overwhelming in the number of choices.
This place is mostly fine, except that my burger was dry and well done even though I asked for it rare.
Why are there so many vegan burger options but never any vegan buns? Been there a few times and they are always out of vegan buns. So frustrating. The first time I could understand cuz it was a busy saturday night but the last 2 times was around 6pm on a weekday. A restaurant should NOT be out of anything at that time.
Good food, tight seating in the booth
Great food! Massive portions. Definitely recommend the onion rings. Rootbeer float was also a must have for me.
Some of the best burgers my wife and I have eaten. Staff was very friendly and accommodating our 1yr old.
Great atmosphere and fantastic burgers. Service was on point!
Cool little spot right off Cary street. Great atmosphere and look. The service here is great too. The burgers and fries are really good as well. They also have a great drink menu and cocktails.
This place is a great place to get a burger or a beer which I do regularly
Excellent place with quality food, the servers are on top of it and even appreciated my respectful way of talking to them. They also have a good selection of beer and a very nice ambiance.
I've been here a couple times now and it's right up there with the best burgers in RVA. I've tried the Citizen Burger and The Hotness (if you don't count bites stolen from friends). They get a little sloppy, but that's only because the portions are so generous...huge patties and lots of toppings. Fry variety is great and they're all flavorful - go with your gut!
Top notch atmosphere and similarly top notch burger, just wish I could have finished mine but leftovers have never been a problem for me
Good locally sourced food. Great options for vegan, vegetarians, and gluten free diets
My kids and I loved our burgers and fries!! We will definitely be coming back!! I love the fact that everything is fresh and locally bought.
Always good, very busy yet very good service. The flavors are amazing and nice selection of beers on tap
I like to come here when I visit Richmond. Citizen is in a great location and conviently has some parking adjacent to the restaurant.... Very good burger and good salads. This place is a great place to hang out and eat while having a drink. Food is reasonably priced too. The Citizen Sauce is awesome.
Grass-fed, grass finished beef! The burgers at Citizen Burger Bar are as good as it gets. Grilled to perfection, and finished with premium toppings, you will notice a huge difference between these burgertastic works of art and whatever it is you've previously be settling for. They've also got great handcut fries and a nice selection of draft and bottled beer, as well as a nice craft cocktail menu. If you're in Richmond make it a point to treat yourself at CBB!
Small. Good food.
Went for lunch, YMMV. Sat outside, friendly and attentive service, straight forward ordering process. Food took a while to come out even though it wasn’t super busy. I ordered my burger medium rare and it came out well done and a little burnt on the edges. Sweet potato fries were the redeeming factor. $20 with tip for lunch, I think I’ll stick to other spots going forward. Maybe it’s a different story during dinner hours.
The food was good and fresh. Unfortunately my chicken had a little pink in it and I lost my appetite. My waiter and the manger where nice and fixed my problem. They have the best truffle fries I’ve ever had and I love me some truffle. Our food came out pretty quick it also is a rooftop option but it was raining.
Fantastic place in a great location. Options are for everyone from the beef lovers to the "Kinda Vegan". I had the Turkey burger with the lettuce wrap.
Absolutely one of the most if not the best Burger I've had ever in my entire family agrees with everything that they had chosen off the menu was the best burgers they had had as well.
Good food good service highly recommend.
Decent burger. Not the best in RVA, but a great place to hang out. Especially the front deck.
Best burgers I have ever tasted! Great service!
Great food, great atmosphere and always great service! My go to when I'm near Carytown.
I do not leave reviews, but it appears the owner sees them, I hope they will see it and make a change. This was my favorite burger spot in town until recently. The burgers the last few visits have not been as flavorful, tender or as great as they were. We buy grass-fed beef for our house and the last several visits the beef doesn't taste like grass-fed . Their burgers taste like a plain old burger. If the owner is reading this I hope you will bring back your old burgers, but until then I will spend my money somewhere else.
I hosted a group of four for lunch on Labor Day. We all had burgers and fries. Based on all the marketing, I was expected everything to be freshly made. To my surprise one of the premium topping, the onion straws, was anything but fresh. What I experienced was cold and hard bits that are best described as chewy. When I mentioned this to the server at the end of the meal, she was quick to give me a refund for the cost of the premium topping. What I would have appreciated was for a manager to go the the kitchen and see what was being served for onion straws. Anyone who tasted these would not have served them. With that knowledge the manager should have visited the table. Guess what happen? No visit from management. A lost opportunity to interact. Your future customers would appreciate a manager observing what is leaving the kitchen.
I worked there the foods good but the place is filfty it's not organized nothing is labeled right the gm will play with your check when you quit block your number as teenagers do it need to be remodeled inside the heat department need to shut it down asap until future notice they need negative stars for this place dont not eat in get carry out the bar is the best thing they have that is cleanest and up to date
Best fried pickles ever. Smoked bacon is amazing. Great customer service!
Service was fast, friendly and playful. The serving sizes are ginormous. Burger was slightly overcooked. .
Went with a large group and it was slow. Burgers were not good and not worth the wait. Charlottesville seems to be doing it right
Great experience for my first time. Very friendly staff, and rustic decor. beat the lunch rush on sunday, just barely though. We got fried pickle spears and custom burgers. Large selection of pattys, buns, topping, cheeses, and sauces. Actually had two vegetarian options, beat based and NoBull out of Charlottesville. Very good, will return soon.
This place has pretty good burgers. Definitely pricy but welcome to carytown. I kind of wish the burgers were a little bit smaller because when it comes to burgers bigger isn't always better. The bar has a decent beer selection and the staff is wonderful.
Great service.. nice atmosphere. .. food was pretty good
I recently visited for the first time. I like the decor and the beer selection. I really enjoyed the farm fresh taste of the beef. My only problem was that I had to send back my burger, because it was still bleeding on my plate. I'm okay with some pink, but I don't want to see blood running out of my meat. So the next one I got was still pink but kind of burnt on the outside. I think the grill was too hot or something. The fries were kind of bland (needed some salt and pepper) and some of them were overly crispy. Other than that, it was a pleasant experience. I like all the options in the create your own burger menu. Maybe I just caught them on an off day.
Sorry, I ate part of this delicious burger before snapping the picture, so just to let you all know, it's by far the best burger ever!! Beats Burger Bach, and we love their burgers. Wonderful service also and wait staff. Good selection of beers and wines!
Amazing atmosphere, great music playing, friendly helpful staff, all topped by only one thing... the food!
Very pricey. Not much choice.
Wonderful burger, friendly staff, and amazing beer. All local products.
Good burger, fries and onion rings.
Best truffle fries in the city! Burgers are amazing
Amazing staff and great atmosphere. Love the food and the idea of farm fresh, local, and responsible ingredients
Used to be great, now sadly it's pretty mediocre
Got the best burger of my life there. Red meat was so yummy. However he French fries were not crunchy.
Amazing burgers, especially "the citizen". Fast service, great atmosphere, indoor/outdoor seating.
We love Citizen Burger, but today nothing tasted good. The soda, water, burgers, fries just had a bad taste, we returned the Sprite & we're told that's just how our Sprite taste ...onion rings were good. Last time we went a couple of months ago & it was great. Not sure what happened today, but was a waste of money.
Cool atmosphere good service great burgers:)
About 20 of us went for a wedding after party. And with only two employees out front they were on point the entire time. Drinks ready. Food served hot and fast. And the burgers we're great. Will def return.
The best burgers ever and awesome service
although we had to wait sometime for our waitress to come to our table once she did she was very responsive to all of our needs. I had the double mini and it did not disappoint. The hamburgers were very juicy and the bacon was crispy. And I finally found a place that makes their cheese fries with shredded cheese! I will definitely be back
This is the best burger I’ve tried in the Richmond area. Grass fed beef and a nice beer selection. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for a high quality burger!
A trendy burger place with good selection of beers and EXREMELY attentive staff. The chef came out to discuss menu optuons personally when one of the items was not available. I really like truffle fries and a custom brand on the bun ads a feeling of ocasion to a simple burger.
Had the burger. Great burger.
My wife and I have been going to the C’ville location for a while now. We decided to stop in to the Richmond location the other day. I must say, the staff was polite and helpful but there was something about the burger that just wasn’t the same as the delicious patties we’ve come to expect from Citizen Burger.
Great staff, just basic burger taste at a premium price.
Really neat atmosphere friendly
Great burgers - service was something to desire
Visited for my birthday. WOW was I impressed. YUM
The burger was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Everything was fresh. Will definitely return.
Killer bugers with a pretty unique selection. Also, extremely solid high quality draft selection. And very helpful bartender. Hard to find anything wrong with this place.
Great tasting burger and friendly service. Will definitely return.
The burgers and fries are great. great service.
The one in Richmond is a little bit smaller and more quaint than the Charlottesville location but still the same vibe and great food. Love this location. You can't go wrong with anything on their menu! If you're needing a new place to try, CBB is worth it!
Manager was amazing and so was the food. The manager noticed the chips they gave us we're broken for the hummus dip and he brought a whole bowl out without even asking
Burgers are fine, but not great. They are suppose to be cook to order but when they brought my burger out, it was luke warm . Looks great in presentation. Best taste is their fresh made french fries. This is the third time I been back to this establishment. Service is always on point and food cook med rare is always sent to me luke warm. I don't know why it happens, and they can do better.
Really nice decor. It was good bacon burger, but I'm not sure it was a $15 burger. I need to go again and get something simple to highlight the beef.
I couldn't like this place any more than I do. The atmosphere reminds me of pubs I've been to in Ireland; a slightly lower ceiling, darker walls, exposed brick, and a cozy feeling. On a cold and rainy day with a warm meal and good drink, you'd have trouble convincing me I wasn't in Galway. Besides that personal experience connected memory, the food is wonderful and unique. The beer, wine and liquor selection is interesting and diverse. The deck is great for a Fall or Spring Day. It is also right across the street from the Byrd Theater. We haven't done it yet but it would be a good place to grab a drink before going to catch a movie.
This place was amazing! Our waitress Amanda was on point and super enthusiastic. I had the “people burger” and it was amazing. Flavors were bouncing everywhere! Price is pretty steep but when your getting quality food it’s worth it! Definitely coming back!
Excellent food! The burgers are on point! Off-street parking in Carytown! The Edison lights are pretty, but not enough light for us geezers (40 somethings) to read the menu easily.
One of my favorite places to find an excuse to visit. Never had a bad experience any time. Edit: my last time there was disappointing. Fries were burnt (they replaced them), and the burger wasn’t as good as other times. Try Burgerworks instead.
This is my favorite burger place in Carytown. The burgers and fries are great. The service consistently good and seating on the deck is great. Indoor seating is rustic and there are a lot of TVs.
Decent gluten free and dairy free burger options. Fries are made in dedicated fryer. Good drink selection including dry, gluten free ciders.
Went for drink two nights in a row. Great atmosphere and bartenders.
Great burgers, great selection of beers, comfortable atmosphere. The staff there was also very professional and courteous.
Small but varied beer selection, good bartenders
It was absolutely amazing and good food. Staff very attentive. Atmosphere very good!
Quality food, quick service, unique twists on burgers.
One of the best places to get a burger in town. Nice selection of craft beers & cocktails.
Didn’t eat but had an amazing jalapeño margarita! Friendly service
Consistently, really good food. And more than just the burgers.
Located across fm the classic Byrd movie theater. Good menu and price. Occassionally place is packed, wknds.
Good food and friendly service. Wine pours are a Rip-off. 4 ounce pour for $9. We brought it to the attention of our server and all she said was sorry. I hadn't even noticed your glasses were marked until I looked at the photo which makes it that much worse. You can clearly see in the photo it's 30% below the line . We visited this location at 2:45 p.m. on October 27th.
Delicious food and great service!
The best Turkey burger and sweet potato fries ever! So far my top vote for an amazing burger spot! Great quality ingredients too!
Excellent food and beer. Comparable to Burger Bach in a lot of ways. Non standard beers, non standard burgers (and other fares) all delicious. Worth a trip.
Amazing burgers and truffle fries
Love the burgers here! Great draught beer selection! Back again on my birthday. If you choose a place to go too for beer first, and a burger is in your favorite food group then this would be a top review! This is one of those!
We got the vegan burger. It was sooo good. Very flavorful. Best sweet potato fries. Their staff are so warm and welcoming. We are definitely going back.
Went today for the first time, great atmosphere, food and reasonable prices. Will go back.
Burgers more than live up to the hype. Definitely worth trying out.
Great food and friendly service. Unfortunately it did take around 45 minutes or so after ordering to receive the food for our 4 top and a few different servers brought us the incorrect orders and drinks a few times. I still plan on grabbing another bite here in the not so distant future.
Great burgers that pair well with gluten free buns!
Limited menu. Simple and awesome. Real ramen, dark cozy atmosphere and open late for all the sake bombs you can handle!
Kristin H. Was such a great server! Friendly and made sure we were taken care of
Everything about this place is ridiculously awesome
A+ customer service. Waiter was friendly, asked if we were locals and explained the CB concept. The burger was excellent, truffles fries were okay - but not worth the extra charge.
ok burgers a little pricy though
The burgers are great and the service is better.
Great variety of craft beers. Delicious burgers with high quality beef, well cooked, even juicy and tender when well done. Onion rings were hot, crunchy and delicious. Fries were the ones with skin still on, which I don't particularly like, but were hot and fresh.
We LOVE Citizen Burger! We travel to Charlottesville a couple times a year for soccer and never miss going to our favorite place to eat. The food and service is always awesome. We were in Richmond this weekend and excited to find out that there is a Citizen Burger close by. Unfortunately after experiencing years of great service and food in Charlottesville, we left this location disappointed. Service from our server was not good, friendly enough but not good. Our food took awhile to come out. Kitchen may have been backed up so not necessarily our servers fault but also not great. However, our water stayed empty as did our teas. We had to go find someone to fill our drinks. Once our food came out, our server asked if we needed anything else. “Yes, napkins and utensils.” I would think that would have been the first thing we received. Our server never came back to check on us after our food was brought out. Despite the poor service we still gave a courtesy tip of 15%. Everyone has a bad day, but we never had a bad experience at the Charlottesville location. Just an additional add on, the hostess that just started was very helpful and pleasant.
A good burger, and grass fed and finished burgers. Not overpriced, and actually surprising as the quality of the meat is so much better. The vegetables and cheese are locally sourced, and everything tastes fresh. A lot of drink options on tap. We received great service and had a friendly, attentive waitress. I would absolutely come back here.
Rick was our server, and was very attentive and timely. We all shared the peppers and the sweet potato fries as appetizers; bring some friends to help you eat them, as they're huge. The food didn't take long and was very tasty. I had their grilled cheese, which was just the right texture and temperature. I should have substituted my fries for another of their sides (any upcharge that's worthwhile), but they still tasted good. The staff was upfront about what was vegetarian/vegan on the menu, down to the dipping sauces, which was appreciated.
Good food, good drinks, saw the owners helping out! It was great! Service was lacking but overall great!
Hotness Burger was fantastic. $25 for a burger, side salad and tea is a bit much but the atmosphere is great and the food was good, fast and definitely fresh.
Good food and beer selection. You won't leave disappointed.
Huge burgers, really good sweet potato fries as well. Our server Alex was awesome!
This place is phenomenal. My girlfriend and I stopped in last weekend and we're pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food and how friendly and outgoing the staff was during our visit. Would definitely visit again and again.
Great place. Tried the beet burger because of a suggestion from a member of my family. When they ate it it was great! But when we ate it today it tasted pretty bland. But everything else was good. Truffle fries are delish. Waiter was very nice. We got invited to try the beet burger again. The manager was very nice and calm mannered. We will be back to try everything again.
Cool environment and good staff. Food was pretty good, too!
Amazing burgers! You order pink or not pink. I got pink and it was delicious. I also had the truffle fries, so good. They have a good beer menu, too.
Great place for casual food. Veggie burger was excellent.
Always a great atmosphere. I never miss a chance to stop by for one of the best burgers you will ever have in charming Carytown in Richmond. Great place, great food, and I have never have less than perfect service.
Long wait for a decent burger
I heard about this place and wanted to give it a shot. We went in for a burger and a couple beers. I got the citizen burger and my boyfriend got some fries. The burger came out perfect, the service was great, but what got me the most was the bacon. Hearing that everything was raised and farm grown in Virginia had me in shock. It's honestly hard to find a restaurant that isn't chained that's as good as this place, atleast for a burger. The only downfall would have to be the environment and decor. Service was great and the prices were reasonable, especially for homegrown products. I'll definitely be back!
The burger was perfect. And it helps others what more can you ask out of a meal.
Great food. Good beer selection.
Bottomline the burgers are awesome. Grass fed AND grass finished. Most restaurants can't claim that. I got the hotness burger and my wife customized hers. Both were incredible. The sweet potato fries were hand cut and delicious and not frozen. Sit out on the porch for increased atmosphere and people watching opportunities. Located in the neighborhood Carytown. Will definitely go back.
I had one of the best burgers I've ever eaten in my life, truthfully it was so flavorful. It had a fried egg, bacon and meaty goodness.
Saturday early afternoon (2:00) and there was a ~20 minute wait...they texted us when our table for 7 was available so we could walk the pedestrian mall while waiting. Great gastro-pub vibe just 5min from UVA campus. The burgers are really good! I had an 8oz. With sautéed mushrooms and onions with a side of onion rings. Cooked perfectly "pink". An array of burgers were ordered by the group and everyone enjoyed them thoroughly. For the kids they offer a 3oz or 6oz. "Double" which worked out perfectly for them...still a hefty burger that an adult could enjoy. We'd definitely return.
