Go on Fridays for their freshly made soomdae. The whole experience was exactly how it is in Korea, from flavors, ingredients, to even the huge portion sizes! If you want authentic, Chung Oak is legit. It's also priced reasonably for the amount of food you get, too. The staff are friendly. The owner even came out and chatted to us. :) So sweet!

Clean and the wait staff were very cordial. The sides were good and they brought extra when asked. Had the beef on fried rice lunch special. The cost was good... the restaurant taxes in Newport News are hefty. I liked it. My friend brought me in. He has eaten lots of Korean food in many cities and he likes this one very much. The hot tea was a bag of Lipton in a cup. I'm not complaining, because I don't know but I was expecting something in a pot. I'll be back.

The food was okay. But we were charged with a 13.5% sales tax. When I asked, the owner explained that the sales tax in Virginia is 13.5%! I believed her. But then when I checked online, the sales tax in Virginia is about 5%

Dont let this place fool you. It is the real deal. Food here is amazing! If you are not sure what to get bulgogi and fried dumplings are definitely a go to! This place does not disappoint.

It's OK. Too expensive for a Saturday lunch ($24). Typical service. Serve and forget till your done. But the food taste good.

1) My ice tea was filled with ice... I couldn't even stir the sugar I put in the cup. 2) The plates are small... I guess to give the appearance of it being more food than what it is. 3) My wife makes better rice! 4) The bulgogi was dry and slightly burnt. 5) The egg rolls were ok but not enough sauce... I couldn't double dip.... 6) They did not have a stove to where we could cook our own food. My judgement comes from living in South Korea for 5 years...overall I'm disappointed! ;( Its an average korean restaurant.

I like cold barley tea that they provide, which makes me feel like in Korea. (Koreans drink cold barley tea as water.) The side dishes come with main menu are the best. It is neither too salty nor blend. Very tasty. Other Soup and bulgogi are good. Servers are friendly.

Definitely the best Korean restaurant I've been together in years. The ladies that work here are very friendly and are helpful if aren't sure what you want to order. The atmosphere is pretty quiet and if you want to listen to a little music it TV, they have that too. I would eat here every day for lunch if my pockets would allow it.

This has been our favorite Korean spot for several years. Great service and AMAZING food! Lunch specials are a great deal, and the portion sizes are generous. (Some favorites of mine include Kimchi Bokkum, Mandu Guk, Jap Chae, and Yuk Gae Jong! I need to get my “fix” every so often!!)

I went here because someone said they have the best bulgogi. It was good. I had missed the lunch special by 15 minutes. Lunch ends at 2:30pm. It went from $7.95 to $13.95. if you get the fried dumplings with it at lunch you pay $1 extra. If you get them at dinner with your meal they are $2 extra. I asked why and they said that's just how it is on the menu. The staff where really nice.

I LOVE THIS PLACE! My Mom and I live in Williamsburg, and we try to go once a week. The people who work there are super nice. And the food, SO GOOD, trust me, I'm very picky. Went again tonight (July 2, 2019) had the stir fry squid and the stir fry pork, fried dumplings too, THE MOST DELICIOUS FOOD I HAVE EVER HAD!!!!! Went again yesterday July 24, 2019, MY FAVORITE PLACE! The food is so delicious, and the chef comes out to say hello, she is an amazing cook, trust me, you will love this place, it's not fancy, just FANTASTIC food.

Definitely not my favorite Korean restaurant. I only go here when Kyung Sung is closed really. I will most likely not even be doing that anymore after this last visit. They were pretty out of beef it seems, because when I asked for two beef soups they said that they were out of one. So I asked for extra beef in the one... I paid for extra beef but got home and it seemed like less beef than if I had just ordered regular. The taste of the soup was mediocre as well. Very disappointed.

If you know what Korean food really is and taste like this is the place to get it. Authentic and fresh. Small place feels just like the places we use to eat in korea the food brought back tons of memories and flavors we had been craving for quite a few years and could just not find! and finally got it here. As I said if what you want is the real deal go here and get it! awesome service also. Family business it seems and the food tastes just like that a home prepared meal.

To sum it up, excellent food and service. Last year we came to visit Williamsburg area and stopped by a few Korean restaurants around and this place was the best! My wife knows about Korean food and it's not easy for her to really like the place, but she does and so do I. We were thinking about a place to go for our kids Spring break. We picked Williamsburg area just to go to this Korean restaurant again. We are staying for 2 nights and we definitely have plan to go to this place for dinner on both nights. We just went tonight and as expected still excellent and tomorrow dinner we are planning to go again. And it's not just food. The service is also excellent. I don't care so much about the interior and decor, but they are good enough. I can't say they are fancy, but it's nice and clean. I go there to eat, not to look at the decorations. Next year, we will probably come again. I wish we lived around here just for this restaurants. The other two that we've been to last year were pretty bad compare to this one. The price is about average Korean restaurant price.
