With the backdrop of classic Julia Child "The French Chef" video playing on a large screen over the bar, close-captioned to overcome the din of the background noise of a busy bistro, we sat at the bar at the urging of the host to avoid the 1 hour wait for a table. We enjoyed a fantastic meal at this unexpected gem. Delicious food with French nuanced flavors from a completely unpretentious menu. I know all that sounds like a lot of BS. - We heard the food was good. We sat down with our 12 year old who had no problem choosing something she thought she would like from the menu and all 3 of us enjoyed all of the food we ordered collectively. Winner Winner Chicken Dinner.

Matthew Zuwala

Good service, friendly staff, amazing food.

Xida Ren

Friggin awesome. The impossible burger is absolutely delicious.

Shay TheDragon

Very nice people. A countryish place and the food is very good!

maggie kowalski

Services was great. I did like the food. There are some things I would definitely change. The lamb I think has too much glaze it tastes like something I would get at a Chinese restaurant. The duck (shepherd pie) is good I just do not think there is enough meat in it to taste the duck. The steak is cooked well just watch for the cut bc sometimes it could be hard to cut. The desserts are light. The creme brulee is good it just tasted like too much sugar was put on the top portion. The mousse is yummy if you are into a dark chocolate taste. It is a cute place to try if you are ever in the area.

Katherine Taylor

This is an amazing place to go even for the picky eaters, the service is phenomenal and I highly recommend it. My whole family enjoyed their meals.

J K M

Great food, huge servings, a dont miss out kind of place!

Haylea Zaugg

You can't go wrong with the frog legs, the Mac n cheese and the chocolate mousse!

Daanish Fiaz

Went here for my brothers birthday since he's a W&M student he got free dinner. We had the chicken crepes and they were delicious and very fulfilling. The hot chocolate was also the best hot chocolate I've ever had. The waitress will give you bread and butter but only if you ask for it I think. The staff was also very fast and kind. Probably the fastest service I've gotten at a dine in restaurant in a while. The atmosphere is also very nice, just a little too noisy, but that's not too big of a deal. Overall, the experience was fantastic, the plates are mostly $20 - $30 though. The proposition at this restaurant is that you get extremely high quality food that's amazing in flavor and taste, which is exactly what my experience was. Although this is an expensive restaurant, you do not have to dress formally.

Ricky Roselo

Don’t go there! You will find hair in your plate!

Dennis Whitcomb

Hostess very cordial and welcoming. House red was above the norm. Mac & cheese was excellent but a real diet buster.

Randy Vallejos

Clean updated decor, the staff went out of their way to help with our grandsons stroller, unique dishes, tried the chicken mushroom crepe, very good.

Bryan Clagett

Love everything about it. Burger with egg. Yes please. And I love the frog legs.

Ben Minus

The food was served very quickly and it was good. It was a very nice restaurant and the wait staff were very professional yet still very friendly. My wife and I really enjoyed it and would highly recommend it. Some tables are very close to each other so just be prepared to be in close proximity to other dinners. We didn't mine it at all but it was obvious that some people do.

Tiffney Irizarry

This French Bistro is a must visit. The appetizers are delightful, the drinks are amazing, the food is decadent, and the dessert to die for. If you are looking for an indulgent treat, this is the place to dine. It is very clean and you can even see right into the kitchen. Even the staff wore bright smiles and were very warm and inviting.

jesse stone

Amazing food! Amazing staff! Cioppino was amazing. Ask for pirate Chris! And Sabrina gave great advise on visiting the area.

Kathy VanLew

Absolutely delicious with incredible fast service and delivery ofnour meal

Debra Miller

The Aviators were especially tasty!

Bigfoot Sasquatch With Stolen Internet Service

We had a table for 6! Lovely atmosphere. Food was fabulous and waitress was phenomenal! Very pleasant and professional! Thank you Sabrina!

Betsy C

Food and service was great, only suggestion is that the cookie I ordered for dessert came out hard as a brick. Unfortunately it is the last course so it will stick with me.

Lois Cummins

Good food. Nice environment.

Mercedes Scarborough

Service was Amazing, food was Amazing! We will definitely be back!

Nicole Lathrop

Great place to dine, but sad to say will not be returning. While in another local reasturant I witnessed the manager of Blue Talon become very irrate and rude with the bartender ,who was doing a fantastic job for how busy she was. The owner approaches and he's rude to her as well! Would hate to see how he treats his staff.

Dylan Roty

Really good restaurant. I love that they have options for vegans as well so we can go as a family.

Rita Perfater

The first feast is the atmosphere. The restaurant is precisely what you'd expect decor wise. The staff seemed to adopt the French attitude as well. Frankly, they seemed somewhat annoyed we dared to show up. The food was piping hot and stayed hot through our breakfast. Bloody Mary was quite good. The breakfast Platter is generous and tasty. The omelette is huge with melty cheese and ham. I ordered Basque sauce on the side in case it was spicey. It was very good but too spicy for my system so it was a wise choice. I noticed some people got a pot of jam for their baguette toast. I was afraid to ask for it. Once again, a bit testy in attitude. Not rude, just not happy to be serving us, and the hostess seemed the same.

Clay Hale

Amazing and creative menu. More whiskey selections than anywhere in the area! A must try in Williamsburg!

Jake Wagner

Pretty pricey but a nice bistro feel with tasty food

Nicole Prosser

Breakfast was amazing as well as lunch!

Jp Davis

Excellent French cuisine, food on par with Williamsburg's world class taverns, but in very different style.

Robert Cappetta

sat at the bar Dennis the Bar tender was amazing.

Michele McMurray

Excellent food! Very European. Fun atmosphere. Great staff.

Blair Sweigart

Fine dining, with no pretentiousness

Will Hantzes

Great food and friendly service. There was a table with a family of 5 and the grandparents who were letting their children act obnoxiously. I wish the server or manager had asked them to get their kids under control. Not letting the bad patrons take away from the quality of the establishment

Robert Hersh

Never disappoints. Chris took great care of us. Save room for the chocolate mousse.

Jeff Knepper

A must every time we are in Williamsburg. Loved this spot for a great lunch. The chicken and crepes are great. My son loved his burger as well.

Wanda Blalock

This restaurant has never disappointed us. Always good food and service!

Kevin mccartney

The food was ok but overpriced. Was very turned off that I couldn't change the cheese on my burger. The only option was American cheese even though they had other cheeses.

John Howcroft

We wanted a nice meal but light after eating heavy restaurant meals all week. We chose this because they had a varied menu. We were served an excellent meal of small plates. We even had room for desert!

Greg Gurshman

I had really bad experience. The place is overpriced and the quality of food is not up to par. I ordered salmon. First it was completely black and not eatable. We sent it back, but got the one that was raw inside. Service was not good - no bread (had to ask twice). Bottle water is from the tap and has bad taste. My daughter got pasta - it was swimming in oil. May be other dishes are better, but doubt it given the skill of the cook on Thursday night. Would not recommend.

Yeshanth Jayakumar

I would have given 3 stars instead if weren't for the lady at the bar counter who made me an excellent mocha. It was the best that I have ever had. I had high expectations for the Chicken and Mushroom crepe but somehow didn't tickle my taste buds right. Their Fish Reuben was also average. I wish I could have ordered the French toast. I heard that it's their best dish. I saw at least 2 people order that on 2 separate occasions.

Jonathan Cox

Great atmosphere, food, service, and value. Went for dessert and had the cheese plate and creme brûlée. Will get it again!! Staff is very knowledgeable on food allergies and can make suggestions on how dishes and be changed to accommodate certain allergies. Suggest calling ahead for a reservation.

Michael Tustin

Always a very good meal, service, and atmosphere. On my most recent visit though, I had an issue with my credit card; the only one I had with me. I was mortified. Asst Mgr Bill was understanding and patient. The issue was resolved successfully. Thank you!

Michael Godley

Just about perfect. Don't miss breakfast...it's the BEST. The Parisian Hot Chocolate is to die for.

Aaron Parrish

Very tasty brunch with excellent service for a large group. Wait staff can modify most dishes on the menu to be gluten free. Very large portions - the omelettes supposedly have 6 eggs each!

Michael Shon

Truly delicious food, quirky and interesting decor, huge windows with bright, natural lighting, and excellent service. An example of their attention to detail and appreciation of atmosphere : having Child's "French Chef" playing on the TV over the bar instead of some sporting event. A delightful change.

KD Carlton

I have only been to the Blue Talon Bistro only one time. When I did attend the Blue Talon Bistro, I was with some friends of mine, and we went there for breakfast after going to church. I enjoyed the food that I had received when I was at the Blue Talon Bistro. I have seen the Blue Talon Bistro many times during my travels around the Colonial Williamsburg area. I thought that the Blue Talon Bistro was a very nice place to go to after I ate there.

Susan DC

Wonderful atmosphere, classic French cuisine, and excellent service. No matter the time of day, the Blue Talon is usually the first place we go after arriving in Williamsburg. We particularly enjoy sitting at the bar watching old videos of Julia Child and Jacques Pepin (no ESPN or news TV here

Heather Jeweler

My husband, daughter, and I make a stop to Williamsburg every summer on our way to NC. Having dinner at this great restaurant has become our tradition. Staff is amazing and friendly-- Get the pan seared salmon-- absolutely the best I've ever had!!

Erin Duke

Awesome fries but my waitress was terrible

Liam Kiely

If there's one thing people need to know about Blue Talon, it's that the Food is above and beyond expectation. A few (other) things to note: • It's pricing is on the expensive side, but you're certainly getting what you pay for. • It tends to be pretty busy on most nights, but rarely will require long wait times for tables or guaranteed needs for reservations. (Although I would advise it) • They have one of the largest drink selections in the entire city, and unlike many other more upscale places, the food matches the amount of choices! • The staff is friendly and more than accommodating. They seem to enjoy their jobs, which is always a good thing to see in any workplace. Makes the experience all the better.

Jeffrey Hamilton

Best hot chocolate on Earth

ken hamilton

Just a neat place to go to but they're busy food is excellent and they always seem to have something unique to eat atmosphere is great service even when they're busy they seem to find a way to take care of you

Jacob Hanford

I stopped by for a few beers and didn't have any food. The menu looked good and the bartender was amazingly knowledgeable and friendly. They have homemade pork rinds that are very good, like bar food. I'd go back for a drink or to try the menu. Here are photos of some cocks I saw in the bathroom.

Josh Shabtai

The chicken fried steak and grits were great, friendly staff, great service and atmosphere.

Lynne McDonald

So we came here and got a table immediately. Friendly host and wait staff. Great food with generous portions (understatement, come hungry). Reasonable price. Not big into roosters and fowl, but cute interior. I'd go back. Agree 4's for the staff, ambiance and maybe 5's for value.

Robert Oliver

Avoid the chicken and mushroom crepes. The raclette had stayed under the heating lamp for too long and had dried out. The particular manager that night would not respond to my request to speak with him. I don’t think he was up to the level of the Blue Talon. More like a fast food manager. Everyone else was pleasant and professional. I have enjoyed other dishes there on other occasions. Crepes had disintegrated with only bits of chicken and an over abundance of gritty, fine bread crumbs. .

Brian Altena

Awesome food! Great atmosphere! Very friendly! Our server Michelle was fantastic! Great with our kids!

Tenacious Trekker

Blue Talon is a great family owned business. I always order the French onion soup, and while it has come out a little charred on top, it is generally delicious. The blue talon cocktail is also something you have to try! They have a great half bottle discount wine night that is definitely worth it. I recommend the Tempranillo wine. The burger with an egg and shoe string fries is another go to here, and the chicken crepes are so tasty. This place had great decor and is always bustling!

Karen Smith-Will

We have been going to Blue Talon for more than a decade, and the quality of their food and of their service never fails. When the kids were younger, they could get any adult entree at half price (which they loved, versus being stuck with a limited kids menu). Their on-tap root beer and black & white Julia Child videos are fun.

Lisa Lepley

Great food.. Great service

Alan Kinstler

Great food and service.

Shawanna Hall

Nice servers good food and accommodating

Kristin Salcedo

Really wanted to like this place more... the food was alright. Way overpriced and under seasoned. Cocktails were very well done and bartender was really nice. May try one more time for brunch or lunch, but probably won't return for dinner. Just wasn't anything super special...

Jenn & Sean Doyle

The food here was amazing. Nice atmosphere and very good service.

John Whitley

Blue Talon Bistro is a complete experience. From the moments of seeing the exterior and entering the foyer to engagjng with staff and owners, you know you are welcome. The culinary presentation becomes integral to the collect of experiences. Simple oatmeal captivated and satisfied vision and palate while Lily coffee emboldened conversation and joy of others. Thank you, good people of Blue Talon.

Jessica Schafer

Delicious food and decent service. Recommend late lunch time when they are less busy

Cassandra Kozak

My husband and I came here for brunch on our last day of vacation and it was an excellent way to end trip. This place is adorable and cozy and even has an area in the back with lots of windows. I loved that the coffee was served in silver cups and saucers; I really enjoy going places where even the tableware has personality and things are different than what I would use at home. Our server was very attentive and kind. The menu was really unique. I had truffled poached eggs and it came with a side of really yummy French bread with butter and asparagus in between the slices. We also got a plate to share that had fresh cheese, yogurt, fruit, and coffee cake, which was a nice way to end the meal. I would love to come back and try their dinner and lunch now and recommend people do the same and give this place a try!

Deb Wagner

Always a pleasure to relax with friends over a craft cocktail, beer or wine. Their food is prepared well and very tasty. We always enjoy their steamed oysters, crepes or burgers at lunch. For dinner their main courses are always a gastronomic pleasure. Their chocolate mousse is exceptional.

Kelly Lane

Lovely french style bistro, great for a romantic date or a bright and bustling brunch get together. Food and service is spotty on. Love the Julia Child cooking show videos playing above the bar. A charming spot for a yummy meal, especially brunch.

Terence George

Very casual laid back great food awesome service!

Russell Dudley

Has all the classics your looking for in French cuisine. They were mid way through their change in their wine list, making a lot of options unavailable. Escargot was great. Mac and cheese was great. But some of the entrees were too rich (and I’m saying that with French cuisine in mind) they could tone down the cream sauce by a good third.

Linda Vought

Great food, very nice atmosphere and convenient location in Williamsburg

RJ Walters

Great food, great location, great service from Kevin. Been here many many times...sometimes the wait staff can be a bit unaccommodating, but Kevin was awesome. If going to Wmsburg, a most stop for breakfast, lunch and/or dinner

Dean Wood

Food really good. Glad we chose it

Cathy Junga

The good was good, but the service 2 absolutely horrible! The waitress never brought out drinks, so we ended up getting them ourselves. The food e brought out one dish at a time, my daughters food came way after the rest of us were finished. I'll never go back

Izzy Mazz

This is my #1 favorite restaurant! I come to Virginia just to go here. (not really but I’d say that) I have been here only 3 times, but every time lives up to my expectations of a perfect dining experience. The food is amazing French cuisine. I would highly recommend the escargot and the chocolate mousse. This restaurant has some of the fastest service as well and friendly, helpful staff. I can’t wait to come back!

Justin Thomas

Food was fairly good. Very generous portions but also relatively high prices. The French press coffee was not great, but it was likely just over roasted beans. Overall the atmosphere is very cute and clean with good service and great music.

Nathan B

Usually a good experience, but this time the hostess seemed overwhelmed and was rude. I’m sure we’ll be back at some point.

Jaroslav Ninčák

One of the two places in Williamsburg to have a cup of good espresso.

Annalora Ambrose

Outstanding food and service.Bartender needs to make stronger drinks. Could not taste the liquor.

Joseph Johnson

Great food and great service! Awesome place and very good people. Wait staff friendly and quick with requests.

alison winfield

our absolute favorite restaurant! the food is always moan-worthy and mouthwatering. clean and great decorations. the staff is friendly and courteous. definitely a must stop while in williamsburg!

Daniel Valerio

Pricy but very good French food and a nice romantic ambiance that isn't too formal

Donald McKay

Birthday Lunch Very cute. Dandy collection of amusing chicken antiques and memorabilia. Had great seafood soup with turkey baguette. Partner had shortrib French dip. Both great

Mike Wright

We stopped here on our way out of Williamsburg for breakfast. My wife had the spicy eggs and I had the Sunday pancake special. The sauce with the eggs was delicious and full of flavor, as if it had been simmering for days. The pancakes, we're the busy I've had in my life, no kidding. They were light and fluffy, almost fried like funnel cake. The coffee was hot and the bloody's spicy. With friendly wait staff and a New Orleans atmosphere you can't go wrong.

Catherine Forestell

Love the iced coffee!

Meg Prom

We were visiting William and Mary for the day and this was the perfect spot! Incredible food from Rabbit Noodle Soup go blackened fish on rye. Even the burger was great! Casual and historic atmosphere with fast service and great for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!

Sabina R Plate

Super nice staff, great atmosphere, and the Mac & Cheese is to die for.

Steve Schriefer

Food is good, as is the service. I do feel there are better options in the area, but worth at least one visit.

Randy Ebersole

food was good, waitress needs training

Elizabeth Ciardullo

Food was great! Food took longer than usual. Beer order also slow. Service did not make a 5 star. Matthew was our waiter I was unable to get lemon for my Diet Coke. I asked several times and it never made the table. I ordered soup as a starter it was delicious but never got bread at our table. We decided to try other local restaurants rather than go back during our stay.

William Holmberg

Photo says it all. Soggy over salted and supposed to be fish sandwich- WHERE IS THE FISH? This is what friends ordered. Also had bland flavorless watered down soup. They have poor management with snooty attitude wait staff. Nothing French about this place; neither food or attitude.

Michael Lah

Lovely French restaurant just a block off of Colonial Williamsburg. It's pricey, but we know that going into it. For sure a good place to splurge. All the food was very good. My wife's dish was served oddly - basically a stew pot and an empty bowl. The waiter wasn't even sure what to do with everything. She ended up serving it herself. A tad strange. We really like that the kids menu is a half portion of a normal menu item. Kids don't need more hot dogs and chicken tenders!

Trace Woodbury

Our bar tender Dennis was amazing at knowing what wines he had, how the food was prepared, and his borboun list. The entire experience was great!

Ben Borman

Best food in town!!

kristen koseski

This is a must do every time we visit Williamsburg, the food is amazing, the service is 2nd to none and the location is perfect. It has a French feeling to both the décor and the menu. They embrace this further by showing vintage Julia Child videos above the bar. I would recommend this restaurant to locals and visitors alike.

Pee Wee Herman

If you have not ate at this restaurant, you are missing out. No matter what you order (appetizer, entree or dessert) your pallet is sure to be pleased. Every bite is like having a small firework show going off in your mouth. The staff also provides a unique blend of eloquence to all patrons, while maintaining a very clean environment. Honestly nothing can be negatively said amount this wonderful place. By far, this is one of my favorite places to dine.

Jeffrey Wine

Another terrific brunch with my wife and Father at my favorite restaurant in Williamsburg. The food and staff are wonderful.

Bill Spade

Awesome as always. Lamb shank was great.

Laurie Hall

The food is excellent, and the service was great. Literally the best hamburger I have ever had. The atmosphere was relaxed and fun. If I lived closer, I would eat here all the time. We are in Williamsburg every year, so this will definitely be our new go to spot.

Danielle LeDeux

Comfort food at its finest, plus friendly and efficient staff. Delicious!

Derek Flory

First time ever, our server was amazing! Food was the best I have ever had in my 45 yrs on this rock. I had the Meatloaf and my wife had Salmon. Will absolutely be back. This was our 10th anniversary and hope to be back for #11!

Jeffrey Ketron

Yet another incredible experience with The Blue Talon ...the greeting, appetizers, entrees, and mousse dessert (both the presentation & the taste!) were wonderful as expected. The host enthusiastically informed our daughter, who attends college next door, of several special activities at the restaurant throughout the year.

Shilpi Dey

Oh, blue talon..why are you not in my hometown, the SF Bay area???!! Loved this place while visiting colonial Williamsburg. Fantastic food.. exquisite quality, service, pleasant ambiance. Definitely recommend over any other cw restaurant.

Gabrielle Missy Zimmerman

Classic French Bistro menu. There really is something for everyone. Prices are excellent. Great cocktail menu, check it out. One of our favorites.

Aleks Shubin

I came here with my wife and my three year old. the waitress, Alicia, did not put in the order..did not check on us for an hour. never brought a water refill. then I talked to the staff to figure out what happened, the other waitress told me that "she did not serve us". we decided to leave at this point. they charged us for the drinks and the manager did not even offer to comp the drinks.

Steven Monk

Some of the Best Food we've ever had on vacation and little get away.

Van Rhodes

Wouldn't have minded the price if serving size had been adequate

Somer Randall

This place is so great! Comfortable atmosphere, beautiful wine list, impeccable service, and the food is to die for! I'll definitely be back.

Jorge Guerrero

We were for lunch and it was delicious, the goat cheese biscuit, mac & cheese and the chicken mushroom crepes everything outstanding. Very friendly, fast and right prices.

Preston Burton

Very nice and relaxing amid the the hustle of tourists in downtown colonial Williamsburg. Denis was our server and a delight

Vincent Martinez

Great poeple and Proseco on tap. Nice bar menu if you like French.

Carrie Eaton

Excellent french toast, like bread pudding

Terri Texcell

Excellent service and the food servings are huge!

James McGartland

The food is truly excellent. Miranda really did a good job. steak of the day was perfect, as was dessert, and wine. The manager told me they take pride in their food and service, and I can’t find any fault in that. Really happy I went here.

linda chernisky

Terrific waitress staff. Food good.

Chazzz Galten

Excellent food and staff!

Terri Siler

Table of 6 for lunch. Our server Michelle was fantastic. She was knowledgeable and very attentive. The food was scrumptious and I was sad to see the bottom of my bowl. We had the Chopped salad, the Bistro burger, the Chicken and mushroom crepes and the Tilapia Rueben. I see some people have complained abput the price and I pay attention to that because I'm a single mom on a small income. However, we found the prices to be right on target with the type of restaurant, the service and high quality level if food. Sad we are so far away, because we came from Indiana and not likely to come this way for a long time. Thank you for a wonderful lunch.

Gary Moonan

Great service and well prepared salmon and scallops. Had to ask for bread and it was real bread! Will return!

Dylan Chudoff

Honestly some of the best food I’ve ever had. It was such an upscale restaurant! I would personally rate this place a 4 star restaurant. I had the fish Reuben and the French onion soup and everything was amazing. The staff was super friendly and was able to help us from the start, even at the beginning when we wanted to change tables. And for the quality of the food, everything was super fair on the price. Next time my family goes down to Busch Gardens, this is my first stop for breakfast!

Xianrun QU

Decent place to dine with great service. We had meat loaf and lamb shank for main; meatloaf is delicious while lamb is average. The only thing that worth attention is that some pics in the reviews are out-dated and the dishes in them are no longer served. As we were there for Boeuf Bourguignon which is in one of the pics but no longer exists in the menu.

R M

I went here for lunch, and while the portions are generous the food and drinks were over-priced. $14.95 for the macaroni and cheese, which is store bought penne, with a mix of a few cheeses and when the menu says a side of ham, understand you are getting a condiment cup with crumpled ham. $3.95 for an Arnold Palmer and that does not come with free refills (customary for most restaurants for non-alcoholic beverages). The service was okay... it took about ten minutes where my glass was empty before the waitress was walking by (not stopping by the table)and I called to her in order to ask for another drink.

Marty Johnson

Very nice eatery. I will return

matthew lawson

Wow! Where do I start. My wife and I stopped in (with our dog) for lunch while on vacation. We weren't sure where to park, but the staff directed me to the parking garage and they even offered to validate 2 hrs (at $1 per hour that wasn't necessary). They seated my wife, dog and I on a very nice little patio. The server was awesome! She recommended cocktails that paired nicely with our meal, and even served our dog like a member of the family... That means a lot to me! The food was AMAZING! Try the fried oysters, they were the best in the Williamsburg area. The location is also perfect for shopping and the historic areas. Make a point to stop here while in Williamsburg.

Clara Burton

We were just strolling around cute little Williamsburg when we came across this nice place. It looked small from the outside, but on the inside it was pretty big. The french food was really good and the mac&cheese was REAL mac&cheese. The other people in my party looked like their food was great, too. The only slight issue is that the portions are a little too big. Otherwise, great food and good service.

Jacob Joseph

Mediocre "french" food. I had a steak frites. Steak was fair quality, and not cooked correctly - it was under done. I did not order the parmesan truffle fries, I ordered the regular ones, which tasted as if they had come out of a great big frozen bag marked Sysco.

Heather Shaikh

What a quaint french restaurant with authentic french food and wine! I love where it's located and the food is phenomenal. The service definitely deserves a shout out as well, everyone is incredibly nice. Highly recommend.
