I have been dining at Ye Olde Tavern for years under the current ownership. It is consistently delicious, excellent service, great atmosphere and they have cranberry fritters and maple butter! How Vermont can you get! The Colonial atmosphere is authentic and so cozy in the winter! Don't miss it on a visit to Manchester Vermont!
It's a very nice colonial style dinner. The food was tasty, service was good, and I enjoyed the ambient violin music being played on their speakers. It was a little loud even though it wasn't packed.
Historical and country cozy dining. Dinners were excellent and dessert list was not your typical restaurant choices.
Food , drinks, and service is fantastic! Decor is beautiful and historically accurate. Atmosphere was dull, though it was a Monday night . Super friendly staff.
Great place, both the food and the vibes! We've celebrated my bday there and enjoyed it very much.
Great food but way over priced
As soon as you enter the place you are sent back 200 years to a cozy old home where the fire place keeps you warm and the pictures on the wall will tell you stories of centuries past. Great food and service.
Prime Rib is very good
Go here every time I'm in town. The cranberry fritters and maple butter are so tasty. And I appreciate the ambiance and vegetarian options. They accommodated our 2 year old very well.
Stopped here for dinner while vacationing in Vermont. Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Just sorry I don't live closer so I can frequent it more often.
Top notch restaurant!
very nice.
Great dining
Cozy place. Food is above average , but really a lot in the plate.
One of my all time favorite places in Manchester. Since moving away, we still try our best to stop by for a bite to eat when we're back visiting family.
What a great meal. The waitress was very nice and helpful. We were so full could not order dessert. Cozy
Awesomeness
Nice historic restaurant. Cool little bar with nice fireplace and wood architecture & furniture.
great food at decent prices... nice little spot during our vacation
Terrific dinner. Friendly and informative staff. Try it you'll be glad you did.
Get the early bird special before 6. Great history and ambiance at one of the oldest taverns in New England.
Step back in time in Vermont's oldest tavern. Amazing food and historical charm.
Fantastic ambience, historic building with great food and wonderful service. If your in Manchester you must go there.
Everything we had was terrible and over priced. Total waste of money.
Perfect dining
Excellent place to dine. Service, food and comfortable surroundings. Please go if you are in the area.
The food was delicious service was attentive, the only downsides (simply because I was in a bright cheery mood)were the dimly lit decor and no outdoor seating.
This place is cool and I happened to stumble into it. I got to look at a old school photo book while I ate some unique food. The door is shut by some old school hanging weight and the building has history.
Great food and service was super
nice atmosphere, and history. great food
Great charming restaurant with good food and history.
Cool time period tavern. Food was cooked perfect for us, and wait staff perfessional. Would definitely go again.
Just go here. What a neat experience, and good food to go with it. The lobster mac is a must. The Duck is perfect. The Scrod was also a real show stealer. The Scrod was actually better than the mac and cheese. The whole place is candle lit, no lights at all. Such a cool setting and lots of flambe going on.
Food and service were excellent as always. Great atmosphere. We love to make the drive from Albany, NY at least once a year to our favorite restaurant.
I had an excellent venison steak, here.
True quaint Vermont tavern. Food was really good, service was friendly, all in all a great time.
Just love this place!! The history, the atmosphere and most importantly the food! This place is must for whenever we're in the area.
horrible, the worst service i have ever experienced
Food and atmosphere was top notch...Excellent menu and great specials...would advise not to go seafood, not bad, just the rest of the selection is better and seems more appropiate...great value at $20 to mid thirties for main course
Everything was good but if you say wild mushrooms don't use button
Terrific service, delicious food and a charming atmosphere.
Wonderful food and a great staff! Incredible evening!
Without doubt the service is always great and the food delicious
Shrimp cocktail was slightly slimy. The turkey dinner was like a TV dinner. The salad was brown. The waitress was very nice!
Feels like having a meal in the museum. Food is great, atmosphere is unique
Two words: MAPLE. BUTTER. The food was delicious and had a unique take on some classic foods but the maple butter took the cake. We bought two mason jars to take back to New Jersey. The vibe is old colonial America, candles on the table and a really cool, unique old tavern. There’s a lot of history with amazing food. Diana was our waitress and she made the night even better. Highly recommend!
Lovely meal in a wonderful, historic building. Our server Tiffany was excellent. I had the pot roast and my husband had the chicken pot pie. My folks had the salmon and the turkey. Everyone was very happy with their food and the portions. We will definitely be back next time we're in the area!
The food was pretty good. Proportions were super small though of the vegetable. Also the potato. It's a pretty cool old historic building.
Quality is not there for the price. $23 for a chicken breast with 4 steamed green beans and 3 carrot slices and a scoop of rice. There are fore sure better places in town. On the plus side, the beer was cheep.
This was probably one of my favorite restaurant experiences in the past few years! The building is amazing and they do a good job of spreading people around throughout. Our server was funny, the perfect amount of attentive, and worked hard with our food allergies and intolerances. The food was absolutely incredible and we all cleaned our plate. Would definitely like to go back!
What a great place. Convenience brought me to the restaurant, I'm staying next door at the Palmer House Motel. The restaurant surprised me a number of times. The atmosphere was delightful and the service impeccable. The wine list is very well done yet reasonable. However, the food set the place apart. I was craving Scallops and the Chef delivered them piping hot and done to perfection. It helps that he's been doing it forever. Thank you Ye Olde Tavern, keep up the good work!
Best food in Manchester. The cranberry fritters with maple butter are fantastico!
Delicious and traditional Yankee cuisine with a unique flare. Authentic, charming atmosphere and consistently good service.
Good food and service
Amazing food
Good food and a great time good service
Absolutely amazing! The best beef prime rib ever. It must have been 20 oz plus and melted on your tongue like butter, and the service was second to none. Tiffany was an amazing hostess. Bring your appetite and wear stretchy pants. Dan Lacelle, Ottawa, Canada.
Food was quite good. Helpful staff
If you're going to go to a single restaurant in Manchester, obviously go here. You didn't come to the Shires of Vermont for Asian fusion - you came to go to a place in a colonial house from 1790 that oozes charm, warmth, and character throughout a series of intimate, lovely rooms. In addition to looking the part, the service is stellar, the food is not only delicious but also more exciting than you might think, and the cocktail list manages to make traditional fun. Very highly recommended.
Situated in beautiful Manchester- this tavern is loaded with history and backs it up with great food and drink- the real deal
My wife and I had a lovely dinner last night. What made the evening so special is our server Jossie C. She was the best. Our meals were cooked to perfection as was the service. Thanks Ye Olde Tavern and thanks to Jossie. Awesome time!
Delicious! Great service! Comfy atmosphere!
Great food, service was great too!
Excellent service and the food was very good.
Absolutely fantastic! Food and atmosphere. I recommend the prime rib cooked medium rare! Yummy!!! Nice size portion, so good
Great scrod, great draft beer.
Excellent food excellent service
This restaurant is quaint and delicious. They have an excellent menu and staff. The Mac and Cheese with lobster and applewood smoked bacon was amazing!
As always food was great well priced
Charming ...the food and atmosphere were terrific as was the service
We were siting at bar waiting for our table. THE OWNER who we found out after was also the barman, was rude at the beginning We ordered 2 espresso martini. THE WORST EVER Had. When we expressed our dissatisfaction with the drinks the waitress offered to make us two more, only to find out after dinner that we were being charged for both the drinks we refused. When we questioned the bill, waitress explained that she talked to the owner and told her to charge for the drinks and there was nothing they could do because he left. Had we known that bartender was the owner we would not have stayed for the dinner out of principle.
The hostess was very accommodating with finding us a table when we showed up without a reservation. The food was excellent, we both very much enjoyed our meals. Would recommend if you're in the Manchester area.
Great service, decent good. Quirky decor
Our family loves the "early bird" Prix fixe service from 5 - 6 PM, on Sundays through Thursdays. P.S.; The upstairs ladies room is a secret gem.
Incredible dinner for our anniversary. The lobster mac & cheese was to die for. Steak tips with onions mashed potatoes absolutely delicious. The staff was incredible left with such a warm feeling and the happiest anniversary yet.
From the atmosphere to the service and above all the food this place is perfect.
One of the best meals I've had. The pot roast was fantastic. Beer was excellent (1790). The dessert was also really delicious. (Cranberry/Apple crisp and The Chocolate Bombe) I would come here every single time I went through or near Manchester.
Fantastic steaks!
Quaint decor tired food
Hands down the best restaurant in Vermont. We make a pilgrimage here every year. The maple butter with hot from the oven bread, lobster Mac and cheese...never had a bad meal, and the colonial setting is the cherry on top.
The pot roast, chicken chicken pot pie and salmon were amazing. The wait staff were excellent and knowledgeable of their dishes. If you are in the area it is definitely recommended. They open at 5.
A great finish to our summer vacation. Had a great meal in a historic Inn.
Great food and drinks
The prime rib was outstanding. So tender that u can cut with fork. Beer on tap 1790 taproom ale, a great tasting beer u can only get there. Well worth trip just for that place Tiffany a great waitress very friendly. Next trip to Manchester Vt will be stopping in
Our favorite with lots of options but the menu isn't overwhelming. Very friendly and a great wait staff. Can't wait to go back
Built in 1790 and iirc it was still the independent republic of Vermont at the time. Lots of free parking available. Good location. Great service and food. I had the tradition pot roast with mashed potatoes. My wife had the turkey dinner. Our son had the chicken piccata. All were delicious. They came with a salad and cranberry frittters with a side of maple butter they make (and also sell to take home..but dont really advertise it). We got there around the time they opened and 2 of our dinners were early bird specials that included a dessert. They're use to visitors from other states and provinces The parking lot had cars from Michigan, New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Ontario, and if course Vermont.
Want to go back in time? You do when you enter YE OLDE TAVERN. Classic service and wines and cocktails of very good quality. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is wonderful.
Fabulous food and service warm quaint surroundings with a good bit of history
Tried to go in on the wimed. Was asked if we had reservations which we did not. Then we stood there waiting for the hostess to figure out where to seat us. She greeted two more guest before we decided to leave. Maybe put on the google add reservation is advertised.
Excellent! Lobster mac and cheese!
It is amazing very good quality. Waiters are very considerate
Nice place.
Nice list of vintage cocktails and a nice wine list. The food was tasty. Many of the items have maple syrup a one of the ingredients, which was a nice touch. Friday night is venison night, and I had the BlackBerry sauce. Again, it was good, but slightly overdone. The bill for a party of 4 with cocktails and wine was $300. I would go back.
Fairly pricey and the food was mediocre at best.
Great food & service. Large portions could share if you are ordering from each course.
Love this place. Food, service and atmosphere is great.
Gorgeous location and good service that didn't quite compensate for the overpriced and bland food.
Good local New England restaurant
My new favorite place, so charming and cozy, delicious food, great ambiance, truly relaxing and memorable, and they even have a vegan entree as well as vegetarian ! Warm and friendly service, lovely menu, delicously prepared. A treasure in Manchester, Vermon!
Nice atmosphere. Good food. Attentive service. Reasonably priced for an upscale restaurant.
Everything was awesome!
Great experience. Excellent food, service, and value. The 1790 setting is the best.
Great food always reliable. Love the VT atmosphere .
Classic New England!
FIRST VISIT: This place was suggested to me and my girlfriend by Michael, our innkeeper at Ira Allen House in Sunderland (a place with a colonial/revolutionary-era vibe that goes hand-in-hand with this restaurant). He mentioned that the food, atmosphere, and cocktails were all great. We made reservations and were seated in the bar area at what we were told was the tavern's oldest table, which lacked a tablecloth in order to show it off. The waitress was incredibly friendly and did not rush us at all, even later in the evening on a weeknight. My girlfriend ordered a really great Brandy Alexander and I ordered a Rusty Nail. For an appetizer, our waitress suggested the mac and cheese. My girlfriend and I have pretty high standards for our mac, and this didn't disappoint in the slightest. Breadcrumb topping, vermont cheddar, bacon, and lobster mixed in. We were also enjoying the cranberry fritters and maple butter. For dinner, I ordered the venison with wild mushroom bordelaise. It came with mashed potatoes and veggies. Juicy and tender. My girlfriend ordered yankee pot roast, which was really hearty with rich gravy. The desserts were good - the cranberry-apple crisp was satisfying served warm with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream. -------------------------------------- SECOND VISIT: When we made the reservation, we wanted to make sure we sat at our preferred table, which was an old quilting table in the corner of the bar room. Unfortunately the host gave the table to another party, but we didn't mind. He was very apologetic but honestly provided such great service to us and was so friendly that we didn't mind about the table at all. We obviously had to order some good old-fashioned cocktails. My fiancée went for the Brandy Alexander, which was excellent. I decided to order a Ward Eight, which satisfied the craving for bourbon and sweet. First we ordered the onion soup, which was excellent. A really solid rendition of a classic, with the cheddar and taproom ale providing a good funk compared to a typical French onion. During our appetizer, we read about the restaurant's history in the back of the cocktail menu. We saw a little blurb about the third-floor ballroom with sprung floor and decided to see if they'd allow us to take a look. Surprisingly, the host was more than willing to lead us up into the unoccupied third-floor space and show us the ballroom. What an experience! The paint and floors are all original, and in the adjoining closet, you can see original construction as well as renovation work done over time. After that cool detour, we got back to the table for our salads. I got the house salad with field greens and blue cheese, while my fiancée got the Caesar. Both salads were delicious. At this point we realized we never got the cranberry fritters. The waitress was swamped but was doing an great job and, like the rest of the staff, was extremely friendly and personable. When she came to get our salad plates, we asked about the fritters and she said she'd bring them, but unfortunately we never received them and felt bad asking again. The rest of the meal was good enough to make up for it. My fiancée ordered the mac and cheese, which we ordered as an appetizer the first time we came. Super delicious, creamy, full of lobster meat, bacon, and cheddar. I ordered the filet mignon with horseradish cream sauce. It was excellent, and I was really feeling like a good steak. For dessert I ordered a pineapple upside-down cake, and it was awesome. My fiancée ordered the mocha bombe, which was fun to watch get flambeed, but tasted a little too heavily of alcohol. It wasn't bad, but it was just a little too much. We also decided to indulge in the "naughty chocolate milk" - Godiva liqeur, Bailey's, Kahlua, coffee vodka, and milk in a glass milk carton. For some reason I don't think this is period-accurate to the late 1700s but it was delicious. So glad I got to return for our second trip to the Manchester area. It's one of my favorite places!
Excellent food, service, and atmosphere. A place of local history. Filet was outstanding.
Despite being in Vermont, the atmosphere reminds me of the Williamburg , VS. Love their Vermont martini.
EXCELLENT! Our experience at the Tavern was wonderful, beginning with our server Josie and culminating with a surpurbly prepared scrod dinner! The cranberry fritters were a special treat and the Cesar salad, with anchovies, was delicious. We are not easy to delight but we were beyond delighted with our dining experience this evening,
The tavern itself has a nice vibe. The food reminds me of the food you get at a wedding or a catered event. Like the rest of the restaurants in Manchester, its overpriced and the food is mediocre at best. But it's a nice atmosphere if you are looking for a cozy, romantic and cute place to dine.
One of the best restaurants in the area! All the dishes were timed perfectly and brought out at exactly the right time. I highly recommend the “crab stuffed mushrooms” and the “venison with blackberry demi-glacé”! You can’t go wrong here. Great service, food and atmosphere! If you are planning on going I would highly recommend a reservation.
We go every year when we are in Vermont. Wonderful.
very good food and atmosphere
Genuine. Extremely old establishment, faithful to tradition in atmosphere and decor. I don't mean old as in the Victorian era, I mean like the colonial era. Looking about the dimly lit room, it's easy to imagine your fellow diners having arrived for the night on horseback, gathered together for frontier hospitality. Food was excellent and the price is right.
Excellent food, atmosphere and service. Great value!
Deliscous good and great service. Duck was excellent.
This in my opinion is the best place to eat in Manchester! The food is always fantastic an we have tried almost everything on the menu. The owner, chef, and staff are top notch and accommodating.
Great menu. Friendly service. Old world charm. Cold porter on tap. Life is good.
Great dining experience. One of the better places to dine in Manchester Center.
A step back in time with great food and service
A really pleasant experience. Good food, good service in a cozy, quaint atmosphere. Excellent scrod cakes. Good steaks, well prepared. Special treat while you wait for your appetizer, cranberry fritters with maple butter.
This is a very cool historic establishment that offers a warm colonial atmosphere, upscale comfort food, and great service. Our waiter Wojtek made great suggestions and great conversation. This is an instant favorite spot in my book!
Great atmosphere and great food!
Nice atmosphere, good service...salad included. Cider chicken was very tasty. Chicken piccata delicate. Portions not huge. Offer plain options for picky&/or dietary diners.
Great food and service in a historic tavern
Scallops w spinach and bacon was excellent. The pot roast was only ok. The cranberry apple crisp was also only ok.
Had the prime rib special that is available on Fri and sat nights. Excellent meal. Slightly pricy.
Fantastic food and Great staff.
One of the best meals I've had in quite sometime. If you're in the Manchester area, be sure to stop in here for dinner! The service was excellent (Lindsay was great!) and the atmosphere was so authentic. Having a meal in such a well preserved and historic building was such a treat and one I won't forget. The meal was amazing, as well! Highly recommend the chicken pot pie I had - it was the perfect rendition of this and was packed with flavor.
Very nice staff, food is tavern fare prepared in house (no corporate microwaved food here). There is a small bar (4 seats) to hang out and have a drink after dinner. We liked it so much we returned for a farewell drink.
Best place to have dinner in Manchester. Tasty food.
Traditional food. Classic cocktail menu. Great atmosphere
A+ great service, great food. If you want a perfect night out for dinner, I would highly recommend the Ye Olde Tavern for a magical night.
Great restaurant. All were very satisfied with their meals. Our server was terrific. We had an excellent time. Will definitely return.
Great place to enjoy a very good meal with atmosphere
Amazing Service As Usual! The food was great.
My husband and I came in for a reservation. We had to wait 10 minutes for our table. When we were seated the woman left and never offered drinks. 20 minutes later someone stopped by to bring us water and we requested our waiter. Our waiter came and we ordered drinks and then told him we were ready to order. He told us there were two tables ahead of us and he would come back. 40 minutes later we never recieved our drinks we had finished our waters and left our table. Since it was so late other local restaurants were already closed. We had to rush back to our hotel and hope we could get food from them. We were very upset by our experience!
Dollar for dollar. Best food for the money in Manchester. Lovely atmosphere.
Amazing! Best meal in Vermont, hands down.
Service and food was great but price was set on the high side. You basically paid for the history of the place.
A charming find! Friendly, informed staff, a delightfully restored old tavern, and great food. Don't miss it!
Nice place, great food. Children's menu included, so bring the kids if they are with you. The scallops are excellent.
We are going to the oldest bar in each state, but we went before they opened so needed to go shopping, which was a joy in this quaint town. They served us up an appetizer that they are known for and the bartender was knowledgeable about the history and the host showed us around and showed us things that we wouldn't have known without him. A real joy!
The salmon was nice, the quinoa balls were dry. The service is very slow but kind.
Beautiful atmosphere, quick, attentive service. Lobster mac & cheese is wonderful.
Great food and quiet asmophere. Staff very friendly.
Classic Historical , and Great Food!
The great reviews drew me to this restaurant where we went to celebrate my first time in Vermont and my birthday. Based on reviews I was expecting something very special. There wasn't even a hostess at the door to great us when we walked in. We waited several minutes as the waitresses flew by saying someone will be with you shortly. I knew the menu prices were high but thought the food would be worthy. I was wrong. The prices are high and the food and service is average. The cranberry fritters were a little greasy tasting but we thought maybe they had been sitting and weren't fresh so we asked for more but never got them. Also, $9.50 for a rum and coke in a glass filled with ice is over the top.
Warm enviting atmosphere, food was amazing.
The service was good and the building and location are really nice, but the food was just ok. For the price it should have been great.
Good food a great place to take the family
Very enjoyable evening.
Good food, but a little pricey for the amount of food. I would recommend it.
Great food and service. Had an amazing lobster bisque ❤️
Super quaint restaurant with a nice period feel to it! A bit on the expensive side, but totally worth it
Delicious dinner. Vegetarian options. Nice atmosphere.
Quaint interior with some good comfort food. The maple butter, cranberry croquettes were on point and the chicken pot pie was delicious.
Food and service was fantastic. We loved the ambiance. We totally recommend this place.
Warm, cozy, great food, always consistent, and awesome staff
