Amazing food and service! We really enjoyed lunch at the Whip and will be adding it to the short list of restaurants we enjoy. Be sure to try the homemade corn chowder and the French fries are some of the best I have ever had. 5 star rating for sure..

Ashley Brown

This place was amazing. First off the decor was so cool and I needed to look at everything lol. The waitstaff was good and friendly and of course the food was delicious. Pretty relaxing dinner place in all.

We're from Montreal. My girlfriend and I recently spent a couple of days in VT. We don't usually eat at Hotel restaurants (in this case, an Inn) but it looked quaint and who can resist a place that's almost 200 years old? Now I rarely write reviews but I have to admit, the Vermont Grass-Fed Beef Burger (The Whip burger's less pretentious little brother?) don't know what it was but there was just something about it. Add to that the fact that it's a narrow, thick beef patty, which usually isn't my favorite type, and still I found myself thinking about it hours later. That's gotta mean something. Staff was great, waitress included. Attentive but not annoying (asking if everything is OK every 6 minutes). Just right. Great place. Awesome burger. A must try.

Another restaurant in the Stowe area where the food was great and service completely sucked. Getting into the details isn't even worth my time. I wont be back.

Damon Brink

It's a local staple but I'm not sure it's a staple for locals. Or maybe they're just a little understaffed. No greeting on arrival or upon sitting. After 3 minutes a rushed hello. No problem, quick service, well served drink, comfortable bar. I'm picky and I'll be back because they have Woodford Reserve and because it's not crowded at the bar and you can sit and write reviews in peace.

Klaus Bockholt

We had a very good lunch here. The staff was very friendly and we enjoyed our black been burger, kale salad and Cesar salad. We were sitting outside in the shade with a nice view.

Kathy Johansen

Dinning here was great, well staffed, good food, our waiter Henry was attentive but not hovering.food well presented, and delicious.will be going here again

Marc Terry

Great food great atmosphere. A little pricey but liked it overall

Steve Illgen

We ate here during our vacation and enjoyed it. The service and atmosphere was great. The food (I had the turkey and dressing) was good as well, but not extraordinary as I've seen in some other restaurants. I still recommend this as a place to go if you want to experience a little bit of Stowe history and enjoy a good meal in the process.

Eric Peralta

Food was good. We did have a couple of issues. For me curry was not spicy enough and for another member the fish was overcooked.

Wan Diego

The service here is fantastic. Timothy was and amazing host and server. He was very nice and helped with everything. Would definitely recomend The Whip for a nice lunch. At lunch the prices are good and the food is amazing!

Joe Sullivan

Good food, service and atmosphere

I am Redbeard

Went here for lunch on a Friday afternoon - prompt service and the food was great. Blackbean burger was very tasty but a little too mushy. My girlfriend got the Ruben and she said it was the best one she's ever had. Our waiter Peter was a sweet guy but he lacked a certain motivation. Nothin personal Pete. All in all a good experience.

Twinkie Twins Training

Amazing service! After trying to get a table or two bar seats we were able to squeeze in at the bar. The food was some of the best we have had in Stowe, definitely the best steak in town!!! If you have a sweet tooth, the sac de bonbon is perfect.

Nicholas Jannone

Best steak in Stowe

Let me preface this review with the observation that my wife and I have been regular patrons of the Green Mountain Inn and its restaurants since our honeymoon in 1983, which makes this experience particularly heartbreaking. Each year the Green Mountain Inn makes a special opening of its street-side main dining room for Thanksgiving and Christmas. A very nice traditional menu is offered on an all-inclusive basis--this year $55 per person. Normally this lovely space is used only for breakfasts, with other meals being served in the basement Whip bar/restaurant. My wife and I love the elegant atmosphere of this original main dining room and made it a family treat of enjoying our Christmas meal here. The Whip is a dark, woody, recreation of a sort of English stagecoach inn--an attractive enough space for a bar/cafe, but with no views, low ceilings and as it fills up it becomes very noisy. The food service here is provided in a casual style from a good menu that ranges from burgers to steaks. For what it is it is not bad. But if, as with my wife and I, you have reached an age where you can no longer deal with deafening ambient crowd noise this is not a romantic space. We loved the Green Mountain Inn, but not the Whip. We had established a family tradition of patronizing the fixed price Holiday meal in the first floor main dining room, with its traditional New England decor, views of downtown Stowe, elegant table cloth place settings and fine service. This year we booked in October a table for two for 415PM for what should have been our fifth consecutive festive Christmas dinner. We paid the mandatory $75 non-refundable deposit at the October booking. We arrived yesterday early at 400PM. The dining room hostess was temporarily unavailable while talking to the manager about "what to do with the people not on the list who need to dine downstairs". We checked in--observing that the dining room was completely empty. We were unceremoniously told there was no record of our reservation (fully deposited for over two months). Strangely they were aware of our deposit. I pointed this out immediately and noted my complete willingness to wait until the booked time. The hostess nervously asked if we would wait until she could "check downstairs with the Whip". Note: Even if we had been willing to eat at the Whip no dinner reservation was required there and more importantly no deposit, Two minutes later we were ushered downstairs and into a booth in the back of the bar--no table clothes--no window--and were offered the regular bar menu. Upon my protest the very kind and clearly embarassed waitress said she could go upstairs and get us the meal from the main diining room kitchen, but we would still need to dine in the bar--where already the volume was climbing. I asked to talk to the manager, who appeared after about five minutes. I asked how it was that they could not accommodate us as booked and deposited for over two months in a still completely empty diining room and was told quietly, but firmly that this was impossible, as it would "evict" someone who had booked there (we apparently didn't count--even though the manager acknowledged the Whip required neither a reservation at that hour nor a deposit at any time). Obviously either a mistake was made (repeatedly based on the over-heard conversation on arrival) or someone got greedy and decided to "bump" singles/couples from the main dining room to the basement Whip to free up more tables for larger groups, but in either case it was very clear no effort would be made to fix this other than to offer to carry upstairs food down to the Whip. By now our meal was completely spoiled. We had driven 35 miles from our home to dine, had been customers since 1983, had booked the special Holiday main dining room meal since 2014 and the only acommodation offered other than a table in the dark back of the bar was a deposit refund. We accepted and departed.

Garrison Parthemore

We had such a great meal here, with a special thanks to Timothy. Timothy was a great guy and was very fun to talk to. He helped us out and gave my cousin a military discount for being in the Marines. The food and atmosphere were both very good as well, would definitely recommend if in Stowe.

Laura Ott

One of our favorite places to eat in town!

Steven Login

Nice atmosphere. Mediocre food. Salty and a bit basic. Long wait for food order.

Matt M.

A great restaurant choice if you are looking for authentic New England ambiance. The food was quite good, and service was pleasant.

Kevin Parry

Nice meal at the location we got married in 21 years ago

peter shulkin

Nice restaurant. Good food, great service, pleasant atmosphere. We were early, so it was quiet, but I'm sure it was buzzing later in the day. Our second trip to this restaurant.

You’ll find better food at Cracker Barrel.

Carolyn Vigilante

Food, atmosphere and service was amazing. Ment to take a picture of the food but forgot all about it when it came. So delicious!

Mark Richter

Dinner the day after New year's day. Everything was excellent, service was as well. Bottles of wine and the menu are fairly priced. We were staying at the inn so very convenient and a great place to stay.

Travis Cook

Amazing food. Especially the lobster popover

Roxanne Bombardier

Good food. Nice atmosphere, very clean bathroom, very polite and attentive staff. Can't ask for more.

Randy Ploof

Great place to get food and drinks on an outdoor covered patio

Brendon Morrill

Steak au poivre is amazing

Bridget E

Always a delicious meal at the The Whip. I love their outside area on a hot day. I would recommend the tuna salad sandwich though the Reuben is always delicious!

Frederick Guerra

The Whip is a great place to come with friends and family. It's also pretty cozy - makes for a good spot to bring someone on a date. There lunch menu is a little over priced in my opinion. During dinner they, they serve their signature bread with homemade maple butter. Ask them about their chocolate desert in the shape of a bag.

P Ferwerda

Stopped by with a party of eight for lunch and we were seated quickly. Nice atmosphere. The waitress was attentive. I got a Reuben and enjoyed it, not there very best I've had but in the top 25%. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Although I didn't get dessert the members of our group who did enjoyed the wild berry sorbet and the other desserts they got.

John R.

Delicious food and great beer. I will be returning.

Joan Faria

Food was excellent.nice choice of craft beers and cocktails. Service was great.

Les Mason

This has to be a mediocre place. It took 50 mins for our order to arrive and the place wasnt busy. When it did arrive the presentation was lacklustre, my steak was barely warm and i had to return the vegetables and mash as they were cold and dried out. The steak had no moisture and little flavour. As previosly commented, it doesn,t matter much to me as we won't be back. The only saving grace was that they had a gluten free menu which raised it from two stars to three.

Michelle Preston-strout

Great calamari and scallops. Good cocktails and wine. Bar staff could have been more engaged.

Matt Tolson

Service was great, people were friendly and the food was unbelievable. Prices were very reasonable and atmosphere was pleasing.

Drew Adams

Excellent breakfast. Great service. We will be staying here again.

Nathan

Definitely a classier place, no need for a tie it anything. Food was excellent, great overall alcohol selection. You're going to spend $100 for a dinner for 2 here

Robert Komisar

Excellent food and service. Very nice and highly recommend.

Atlas 7

Decent food. Expensive. Service is very s-l-o-w.

Lou KibA

We both had Sirloin Steak it was great

Christa

Food was delicious and the severer made the experience a fun and delightful event! A little more money than some places but well worth it. The restaurant it situated in a hotel and the decorations were beautiful and fun to see!

Fred J

Warm and great service.

Tabatha Orr

The service was good and the food was pretty good. They have a great beer and cocktail menu. I was a little disappointed with the flavor of my steak (slightly overcooked from medium and the toppings didn't do anything to add to the flavor), but I would try again.

Leota Andrews

Food was excellent

Tabitha Wasson

I had dinner with a party of 6/7 ppl so our table felt a bit crowded, but it wasn't too bad. Our waitress was polite and personable, and the restaurant had a calm atmosphere. The calamari and marinara sauce was wonderful IMO, and the drinks weren't bad. My only qualm was that the ramen is more like a stir fry with noodles than it is a ramen. I was really excited about it, but was a bit heartbroken that it wasn't really a bowl of ramen soup. Minus 1 star because of my broken heart...

Rob Burnett

Good food atmosphere and service.

Adriana S

I give them a one star because of the fact that I did enjoy my first time eating here. I got the Vermont cheddar chicken which was great. And the maple wings and quesadillas are a MUST!!!! Honestly to die for. But their corn chowder is nothing special. My second time eating there left an unforgettable taste in my mouth! I got the most bland entree ever! It had zero taste and was watered down! I ordered the Seafood Diavolo; and must I add that my meal was to come with lobster which was no where to be found instead I got salmon in my pasta with out being told there would be a change to my dish. My boyfriend got the Bolognese which was just a bad combo between the super thick pasta and way too much meat it wasn’t a good balance. So if you go here (because I’ll never go again) order the appetizers ONLY! I will say i appreciate Jim the manager, he was nice and addressed our issue right away, asked us if he can get us anything else... so we ordered dessert and to my disbelieve were charged for the dessert! Which I felt should have been compensation and they shouldn’t have charged us. Was a terrible experience and still ended up paying $50 which was very upsetting considering how bad it was.

Julio Ripoll

If you visit Stowe, you need to eat at the Whip. Great food. Great atmosphere

Dr. Giraffe

Had a good meal. This is good place to get decent American cuisine. I got the ribs and I really enjoyed them. The wings are also pretty good. They have good sized portions, and it really made for a quality meal. My favorite part was the desserts, as they all are really excellent. Not the best place in town, but good if your staying here multiple nights.

Chris Champagne

Excellent appetizer, solid entree, vegetable side wasn't great. Overall a 4 out of 5 Would reccomend

Michele Holloman

Great atmosphere and food, service excellant

Disappointed with the dining experience here to say the least. TL;DR: Poor atmosphere, poor service, poor food. Over priced. Felt like we were being rushed so they could turn the table over. To start, the atmosphere did not suit a fine dining experience. Our booth was close to the bar and several large groups. Other patrons at the bar were raucous, making animal noises and yelling. I understand letting loose with friends but that is better suited for a sports bar. No visible attempt was made by management to defuse the situation and quiet the bar down. The service was poor. We had been seated for a maximum of 30 seconds when the server came over for our drink order. I had barely opened the menu. The wine list was 3 or 4 pages long. When I stated that I hadn't had a chance to look through the menu, the server waited impatiently until I asked for more time. She took my partners drink order without taking mine and returned 5-10 min later with her drink. It was another 5 minutes before I received mine. The food was not to our liking. My peppercorn steak was undercooked. I ordered it medium rare and it was closer to blue. Still cold in the middle, just barely cooked on the outside. The menu said the steak was accompained with fresh seasonal vegetables. What I received was 2 small pieces of overcooked eggplant. My partners steak was ordered well done. It was cooked closer to medium with pink in the middle. Her whipped buttered potatoes were dry and flavorless. They tasted like Swanson tv dinner potatoes. The quality of the experience did not match the expense of the meal. 2 glasses of wine and 2 steaks cost over $90. I have had better dining experiences for less from chain steakhouses.

Stephanie Moya

Delicious food and friendly service. If you're staying at the Green Mountain Inn, definitely plan to eat here at least once! Drinks are also fantastic!

Alison Gray

My husband and I had dinner here on 10/01/2018. The service was terrible and the wait[person] knew it. I waited 15 minutes for a glass of wine and I had to remind her about it. Then, I had to remind her about the soup I ordered but when she brought it, it was the wrong soup. Next we waited for at least a half hour for the main dishes to arrive. Not to go into excessive detail, more things were forgotten. The food was mediocre. I would not have bothered writing this review until she lied about an additional thing she had forgotten. Many apologies but nothing was done to make up for the lack of service or untruthfulness. I guess it doesn’t matter because I won’t be back. One star would mean the food was inedible but it was below average. The service and competence was a failure.

Barry Lyman

Pleasant lunch and dinner menu in a quintessential Vermont atmosphere. Don't expect and exciting meal but still worth a stop. The bread for sandwiches is a locally baked oat and honey and is delicious. Nice outdoor seating when the weather permits.

Orsalia Hoynes

Spectacular food. Warm atmosphere. A must for dinner in Stowe!

Viana Mendes

I love the Whip Bar and Grill: I have been going there for so many years, and I'm always happy with the service, the food, and the ambiance. I cannot get enough of this place when I'm in Stowe, Vermont. The last time I had the pleasure to dine there was in 2016 when I stayed at the Green Mountain Inn. I'm so looking forward to this summer when I will be returning to Vermont and consequently to the Whip Bar & Grill. My favorite meal is Sunday Brunch on their beautiful patio. This experience is tranquil, pleasurable, and everything one would expect from a high end restaurant. Everyone goes above and beyond to meet the customers expectations. I love their pancakes, which is so fluffy and simply delectable. I usually ask for fresh berries and cinnamon to sprinkle on the pancakes. Of course, they graciously bring them to me without a fuss. Their coffee is also very delicious, not bitter at all. On the many occasions that I've eaten here, I've always enjoyed everything. I'm treated with respect, never overlooked. I highly recommend the Whip Bar and Grill to anyone who's looking to relax in tranquil surroundings, eat fresh and delicious food, and be served with efficiency and a smile. Bon appétit!

Erica Thomas

Really good food! Best calamari I ever had Great place and great service

Angela Segovis

Great food

Taylor Forbes

The burger was delicious, cooked a little less than I asked but it happens. The chutney on the bottom bun was what made it, I'm actually going to try this at home. The bartender was friendly. The bar got busy and everything was a little pricey

robert Quinlan

Nostalgic country Vermont neighborhood and beautiful store. You won’t find this stuff anywhere else

Jon Marcinkiewicz

Great location. Good food. They do not rush you out the door.

Ross-Alexander Smith

Food was great but the prices were somewhat high. Looking at the Inn, I'm not surprised. That said, you get what you pay for. Toria was a great server. Views are great on the patio and they have a wonderful selection of scotch and whiskey. The buffalo wings with Vermont blue cheese and the Whip Burger would make for a perfect last meal if it ever came to that. But if you don't have to worry about it, go back and order them again.

Mario Irizarry

Nice vibe, good food, the inn was cool!

Michael C

I had the filet mignon and my wife had the Fried Chicken. We shared each other's meals because we didn't know which meal to get. Both meals were absolutely delicious. The mashed potatoes were awesome, the carrots were amazing and the filet mignon was mouth watering. Loved my meal. Highly recommend this restaurant. The dining room is a little noisy because of the kitchen set up but this restaurant is worth a visit.

George B.

Upon entering the restaurant, it was clear that it was clean and maintained. However, the food took over an 70 minutes to arrive, despite the restaurant not being excessively crowded (no wait times). Please consider this before choosing The Whip. On a slightly happier note, the servers were friendly and understanding of our unfortunate situation.

Chandy Byrum

On our 1st trip to Vermont and this was the perfect place for our inaugural meal. Everyone loved their meals. The Turkey and dressing was wonderful. The ribs were huge. The bread pudding unbelievable. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Charles Hight

We love the Whip . Always satisfies.

Leigh P

Great food. Romantic location in an 1800s building

Luke

Tasty food and excellent service. The wings are a must.

Cameron Krueger

The Whip is a great little restaurant below an old hotel. The dinner menu was a little pricey at 20-35 dollars an entree. The quantity of food was proportional to the price though. I had "The Star." A turkey sandwich on a homemade honey oat bread. I went twice with the same sandwich. It was amazing. Also bought a loaf of the bread when I left.

Wednesday Adams

Had the tuna on homemade honey wheat bread. Was delicious!! If they had served with hand cut, fresh french fries, it would have really be awesome!!! Never liked the frozen ones. Their corn chowder and Bloody Marys are also delicious!!!

Joseph Cincotta

You have got to try their Corn Chowder. Fantastic Salads and great sandwiches for lunch.

Kathy E

Great service and atmosphere. Food is on the pricey side but was delicious and well worth it. I would have given 5 stars but the server never mentioned the specials, and my husband overheard another server going over them and was disappointed, he would have chosen the shrimp special.

Liz King

Very yummy food! The calamari was amazing!! Awesome waiter who was very patient with my elderly parents. Highly recommend!

Dan Plemons

This place is amazing with excellent food and service

Andrew Patteson

Great food for lunch and a beer. They were friendly and accommodating for our group, even with two young loud children at the table. Recommended for both locals and passers-through.

drew arntz

Great food and great service

Guy Iverson

Good food for a decent price. Our party really enjoyed the food and drinks. Staff was friendly and humorous. The tuna salad had a good flavor but was a bit dry. Corn chowder was very good. I would have liked a sandwich and salad combo.

james kane
